trends, networks, and critical thinking in 21st century
-- #FactnaFactnaYan
Fake News:
People nowadays have been affected by the news, mostly they receive right and wrong information and are sometimes misinformed and uninformed. It affects an individual because it would elicit anxiety, worry, and precautions; it may also lead to distrust and inappropriate behavior online. Some might say fake news spreads faster than the right one, this is because of society’s conception and comprehension of news, they rather choose to share the one that interests and favors them rather than the one that showcases truthful details. It may take time but removing fake news from our technology footprint would take a while, a zero to hundred chance, therefore, it is a shot in the dark.
Collective Freedom and Development of the Community:
Although we live in a democratic country there are some circumstances that we need to respect and should not disregard, for instance, people’s fascination of sharing hoax and double-sided blade informations. We may poses the ability to fully express ourselves without distinction but we should also use our freedom for gentler purpose, and use our ability to take a stand and highlight the needed information. Moreover, our freedom shall not be tolerated for bad purposes rather it should use to express a matter where everyone can have a proper comprehension and news analyzation.
The development of the community requires people who has an open mind and has the ability to understand and use their freedom to produce and improve the society, for instance, using information and literary abilities to produce ideas and innovative outcomes that can help people’s lives.
Significance of Fact-Checking:
The significance of fact-checking to "investigate (an issue) in order to verify the facts" Although useful, this definition's understanding of the practical applications of fact-checking, the variety and scope of its practices, as well as the factors and social, political, and cultural contexts in which fact-checking has come to be accepted practice, is constrained by the necessity of its concision.

— Since we’re living in the 21st century, academics can be used into wide voyage of curiosity, academics can help us share or promote the values, beliefs, customs, and practices through simple activities served by the school or even through the use of social media platforms, such as blogs, video logs, and even writing e-books. Other than that, academic produce a good thinking for students and students will use this creative thinking to create a content that the community can understand in order to inspire and promote the values, beliefs, customs, and practices. Academics can help students nurture their critical thinking, thus it can also help students understand the bigger picture. Nowadays, Society can offer the idea of deceiving someone in a lot of way, society has this standard to say something whether something is wrong or right, or to show what is done and what should be done, however, if the student are open in producing a critical thinking then we can shape the society filled with right information and an open door in a trip of curiosity. Academic can help us to produce a proper and critical thinking, in that way we can share ideas and input in a proper way whether it may be in art or words, critical thinking by the help of academic can produce a big help for ourselves and the community as well.
– Encouraging people to join is hard, however, making them stay or making them stay active is harder. In my part, I would encourage my fellow creators to look forward in managing websites by bringing up some advantages to make them stay such as promotions of the team and every product and allow them to express themselves freely, offer them freedom to promote their works and words. I can make them stay by offering a sense of freedom to produce something they want to produce other than that, I can also offer them more ideas to to make the website fresh and an open space and mind to everyone.
The weaknesses presented in our team would probably be the lack of experience, the overall process of creating new content every other day, and even technologies. Being able to recognize the weaknesses can also serve as strength, because in this way, you will know which part on where you should grow and where you should put your attention to. Experience can grow over time however, in terms of content, there will be times when we face a setback or times where we do not know what we should do next but one can overcome that if they let themselves be inspired by everything surrounding them. To sum it up, weaknesses and how we face creativity carry a lot of weight but when we’re able to see what we lack, then we will know what we can do about it. Analyzing and managing blogs is a big thing, however, we can help each other up or help our teams up if we have evaluations of ourselves as well as managing the entire content of our website and blogs upon recognizing the flaws and weaknesses of one another.

Fact-Checking 101
In a country where malicious information is rampant, being critical of information is a skill that is highly essential. Critical thinking is a highly important cognitive skill that one can develop in order to achieve better and more useful decisions. It is a skill that aids people in understanding complex things, and scrutinizing the authenticity of information they receive especially if it greatly affects one’s way of life. Fake news has become more rampant especially online and one way of combating this is through critical thinking by fact-checking. Below are some of the noteworthy information debunked due to having false claims:
“3 Reasons why you should stop eating peanut butter cups”
The malicious article [1] was posted on a website full of advertisements and pop-ups. Upon fact-checking the article, it was found to be deceptive considering that the ingredients mentioned were just actually common, food-safe additives found in chocolate.
Skin Care Hacks: “Eggwhite on Face”
Dermatologists such as Vicki Belo already claimed that egg white does not actually do such a thing [3]. So, the claim [2] is actually ill-information because it commits a fallacy called the "False Authority" fallacy since the operator of this business is farmers, not dermatologists.
1969 Moon Landing
Many have falsely claimed before that the 1969 Moon Landing was just a hoax when it is actually not. These people where conspiracies and misinformation come from usually have no credibility at all. A quick search will turn up many credible sources [4,5] that all agree that the moon landing is real and even provide facts that debunk the lies.
Post of Lorraine Badoy claiming the quote posted by the Daily Tribune is fake
In the photo uploaded by the Daily Tribune, Badoy stated in a hypothetical that she should be given leniency should she kill RTC judge Malagar for her belief that all allies of the CPP/NPA/NDF must be killed. The comments section revealed that Badoy actually say this, and it can be seen on this post [https://m.facebook.com/story.php...] uploaded by her containing her threat to judge Malagar.
Mark Lopez claims on Angat Buhay’s Leni Robredo’s visit in DSWD
Mark Lopez, a known BBM and Duterte supporter, falsely claimed that Robredo went to the DSWD office unannounced and with a photographer. It was debunked by Robredo on Twitter and clarified that the meeting was scheduled accordingly through a formal letter addressed to the Secretary and that they never brought a photographer [6]. The post was also fact-checked by independent fact-checkers on Facebook and was now tagged as False information by Facebook.
Reasons behind the declaration of Martial Law article posted by the page Coach Jarret
The Facebook article states that Martial Law was declared to quell the insurgency in the country. However, corroborated data and information states that the CPP-NPA-NDF membership only increased towards the end of the Martial Law because of abuses committed by the regime [8]. The blogger’s page was evidently run by a Marcos loyalist, which makes the articles lose credibility due to apparent biases.
“Philippines Defense Forces Forums” Facebook post claiming 95% of the 77th UN General Assembly seats were empty during President Marcos’ speech because the delegates had a ‘walkout.’
The page had no sources for its claim, and eventually, it was debunked by Rappler [9]. The fake news just spreads irrational fear among citizens who are convinced that the Philippines no longer has international support, because of the President.
President Marcos’ claimed that the Philippines has no territorial conflict with China
The President’s claim is intentionally misleading considering the fact that China is claiming part of our territory, which already describes territorial conflict. Conflict means something is disagreed upon by two parties. In this case, the Philippines and China do have disagreements about whether that territory is ours or theirs. Rewording just to seem better is one of the common ways of spreading ill-informed and misleading ideas.
A posted photo of a severely devastated 7/11 store
A photo of a severely damaged 7/11 store following the onslaught of Typhoon Karding with a caption implying it was the 7/11 Sto. Cristo, Tarlac branch [11] went viral, and some people pointed out that the branch was not in Tarlac, but in Jaen, Nueva Ecija. Most 7/11 stores have a similar layout and posting information like this without proper research is dangerous as it can spread panic.
Pope Francis endorsed then-presidential candidate, Donald Trump
Posted in 2016, the story racked up just under a million engagements on Facebook. It was then revealed that the original article was fabricated and had no basis. Since then, the website responsible has been shut down and the Pope denied the claims.
A National Institute of Physics infamous alumna meme post about the SpaceX test launch being fake
The alumna posted a picture meme of a flame without a shadow with a comparison to the SpaceX rocket launch where there was a shadow at the thruster [12]. The post was implying the inauthenticity of the test launch. However, flames can have a shadow when there is a stronger light source since flames contain hot air, soot, and combustible products [13]. In the case of the launch, the strong light source is the sun, thus, casting a shadow on the flames going out of the thruster.
A viral satirical university post about Kuya Kim Atienza being the College Dean
In August, rise namely the International State College of the Philippines (ISCP) [14]. Although satirical, the efforts exerted in putting up the said institution were phenomenal. It even fooled Kuya Kim Atienza when they announced on their page that he is the College Dean. People laughed at how Kuya Kim failed to be "matanglawin" with this. This event gives insight into how fake news is not limited to online petty posts.
With all this malicious information continuously spreading online, it is essential to always practice critical thinking through fact-checking. One must make it a habit to always check the validity of the sources of these kinds of information as whatever information we receive, plays a genuine part in our choices and decision-making. For years, weaponized information and propaganda have been used to inflict confusion on many, and it has become more rampant now in the digital age. As it has been clearer now how malicious information is dangerous, we should never fall victim to it. We should not be on the compromised side of the spectrum, and we can only do that by exercising critical thinking.

As a newspaper enthusiast, I am happy about the success of online newspapers. However, I am terribly sad about the struggle of the print newspaper industry.
What is it about print newspapers that people just aren’t into anymore? What does an online edition have that appeals to so many readers? Here are some of the major benefits and drawbacks of both print and online newspapers.

Internet
As of today, the internet is very rampant. It helps people to make their life easier, especially to us Millenials. Because we can get information effortlessly, we can access our friends immediately. We can research for our assignments and projects. Most of all, we can express our feelings, opinions with one click only.
Nowadays, we are now stepping forward in using the internet. However, the rampant spread of propaganda was being exposed and influence our minds in different ways. Based on what I have observed, a large number of people are deceitful to the false information. For example, in the war on drugs campaign by President Duterte, the photo was based on what Mr. Peter Tiu Lavina posted that the nine-year-old girl was raped and murdered in the Philippines. We, as netizens, must know what is happening first, and we must know how to separate the fact from opinion or fiction because not all the news that we have read on the internet is reliable.
In conclusion, we should be wise in using the internet to avoid harm other people. We should spread positivity, love, and respect for every one of us. So now we need to know how media rule us. We need to realize what happens in our society. Don't use media to destroy others' life. Instead, use it for the positive thing for the sake of us. Media is not a weapon all the time against the opinion of others. We can use it correctly for the safeness and have the freedom to everyone. And use the internet as a weapon to make a change. Wherein, we Filipino excel. Let them express their feelings and opinions. Respect their authority as a citizen.

NEWSIES: In this time when we need to be extra careful and keep physical distance from each other, I hope we do not keep our distance from critical thinking. Be a responsible consumer of news. Take care that the things you post and share are truthful and informed by reliable sources. In doing this, we are helping those working really hard to protect the public.
I am also opening up commissions for digital art or publications. Payments for these commissions will all be donated to hospitals in the Philippines to aid them in their efforts to care for patients affected by coronavirus. PM me for details :)

FAKE NEWS
Tumblr media
In this era of fake news and paid news artificial intelligence is more and more used as a political tool to manipulate and dictate common people, through big data, biometric data, and AI analysis of online profiles and behaviors in social media and smart phones. But the days are not far when AI will also control the politicians and the media too.

Things i know about the COVID-19 Pandemic in my country.
According to the Department of Health on January 30, 2020, a 38-year-old female Chinese national is reported as the first case of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Though this virus causes a mild illness, but it can be fatal for the older people and those who has a pre-existing medical conditions.
Currently, there’s still no vaccine for this virus that’s why the number of positive cases and deaths are increasing continuously. As of August 23, 2020, our statistics of
Confirmed cases - 187,000
Recovered - 115,000
Death - 2966
From what I’ve read Philippines has the worst coronavirus outbreak in the Southeast Asia because having the highest number of COVID-19 cases. That’s why the government executed strict lockdown that pushes many Filipinos into deep crisis. However, it was only implemented because our president doesn’t want to risk more lives and also to stop the virus from spreading.
In spite of this crisis our President promised us that by December this year everything will be back to normal. All I can say to my fellow Filipinos is to let the government do their job and follow the rules properly.
For those people who spread bad vibes and fake information stop it doesn’t help at all and you’re just making things worse!

Hi everyone. Welcome to my blog. But first, how’s your day? Well not to brag but my day’s fine. Hoping that your day is fine as mine. I would like to bring you to something serious but will surely not be a waste of time.
How can we defend ourselves from the risk of misinformation? Let’s begin with defining fake news which is our main subject. We can basically define it as a fabricated news but when we go deeper, fake news consists of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media. Without us noticing, we are tricked with fake news because of our ignorance. We are sometimes attracted to false content, disregarding the real ones.
So how could we prevent ourselves from absorbing satire or fake news?
Here are some tips. Thank me later!
Consider the source (to understand its mission and purpose)
Read beyond the headline (to understand the whole story)
Check the authors (to see if they are real and credible)
Assess the supporting sources (to ensure they support the claims)
Check the date of publication (to see if the story is relevant and up to date)
Ask if it is a joke (to determine if it is meant to be satire)
Review your own biases (to see if they are affecting your judgement)
Ask experts (to get confirmation from independent people with knowledge)
3 B’s to remember. Be wise. Be vigilant. Be cautious. If you have something to add, feel free to comment and let’s benchmark ideas. Til’ my next blog. Ciao!

A healthy online environment can bring a positive outcome on what we want to do as a part of it and what we want to see in that environment. By having a healthy online environment, we can enjoy things as they are and interact with people with a positive atmosphere and clean intention.
We must have a healthy environment, we must heal our online environment. To be safe, feel safe and have the comfort of expressing ourselves. Be part of a change and be a reason for a good change. It will not just benefit a certain individual but it will benefit everyone.
Only we can take part, only we can make actions. To heal and have a healthy online environment, we must take charge and say no to:

As a Future Math Educator, I should know the difference between the Real and Fake news. I should also know how to share it with my future students. Now a days, we usually collect data from the internet. It is easy to make news, either real o fake, and still be anonymous.
It is an idea thing that I learned this in my course, that not on the internet are real. I should put in my mind, “is this rea?” A lot of people, for some reason, making this kind of fake news they cannot be caught easily because in the internet you can be anyone.
I come into an idea, since I know to detect the real and fake news, I will report them and I, myself, will not make any fake news. It just a simple but it can make a huge difference when I encourage my Future students to do this. “If everyone doing it, it is still your choice if you want to do it”.
