What If...?
Enrico never died. Timoteo managed to keep one son alive. And though his favored one is gone, at least Enrico remains. As such, Enrico becomes Vongola 10th and the Ninth finds bliss in retirement.
For the first couple of days, at least. Within the month, he was bored. the Ninth hadn't expected this. In hindsight it made sense, but, for once: Timoteo. Was. Bored. When he wasn't spending every waking moment thinking about one thing or the other, he had nothing else to do.
Of course, he went back to the Iron Fort. Just to see how his boy was holding out (he didn't have to, no, but he needed to.) Enrico did not appreciate the gesture. Ninth had spent the last years agnozing over who would properly lead the family and now, he's butting in where he shouldn't be.
Timoteo thinks Enrico is doing a terrible job. But Enrico won't listen. For a while, he briefly considers helping Xanxus, regardless of adoption, have the position. But Xanxus is too strong, too hardy. Too much like Enrico.
What Timoteo needs is someone... nicer, naiver, more innocent. Iemitsu had a son like that right?
Wouldn't that be fun?

Could you please do more for tear down the sky?
Kinda curious if V DOES get destroyed. They're a powerful and old family so it would fuck up Italy if destroyed and the ring is important.
Okay, thanks to everyone who reminded me what this verse is called ^^; I have reread and am now ready to ramble a little.
Vongola is not gonna get destroyed because Rufus now considers it his birthright, and has decided that taking it and ripping out all the corrupt bits to make it something more “respectable” would be just as big a step to Iemitsu’s and Nono’s faces as destroying it entirely. Let him show them how BADLY they screwed up and how thoroughly he can erase their legacies without actually destroying their old kingdom. It will be fun.
That and he eventually learns of the ring and how the ring is kinda necessary to REALITY ITSELF.
Rufus: Boo.
After the revelations he casually dropped like bombs during his fight with Xanxus, Rufus proceeds to *steamroll* Xanxus and claim the Vongola rings.
He then turns around and proceeds to treat Xanxus with more respect and courtesy than he ever has Reborn, Iemitsu, or Nono, and asks Xanxus to be his PRIMARY ADVISOR in all matters Vongola.
Xanxus, warily and angrily: I’m not a MINION.
Rufus smiles, thin and bloody in a way the Varia all find oddly charming: No, you are the man who was groomed for this position most of his life. You are far more aware of the politics and secrets I will be walking into than I, and I would trust the advice of my “dear tutor” about as far as my father can string two thoughts together.
Rufus tilts his head, there is something coolly professional in his mien even as his Sky Flames drift, powerful and lazy, around them, and Xanxus knows that Skies cannot bond with other Skies, but for a moment he wonders if this is what it feels like to be Sky Courted. To want to follow someone from the sheer force of their aura alone. “I cannot change the blood lock on this ring,” he says, “and I have won the heirship by rite of battle anyway. But that does not mean I have no place for others to rule at my side. You are the leader of the Varia. I would be a senile fool,” Rufus shoots a pointed, scornful look at the stunned Nono, “to alienate you. So.” That charming smile comes back, “What can I offer you to secure your loyalty?”
Xanxus stares at this boy who is absolutely not a civilian, and considers getting angry.
Then he laughs instead, bloody and wild, “Alright, Sky Trash, I’m listening. Let’s take this somewhere more private.”
Rufus tilts his head and they stalk off, and none but their Elements are allowed to follow. Whatever they talk about, they come out of it almost amiable, and Rufus has successfully secured the loyalty of one Xanxus di Varia.
He discovers a few days later that this means the Varia consider him Theirs and that means the Varia Sun can come over and Fuss at him. Rufus accepts this gracefully.
Reborn does some major Thinking of Thoughts and Eating of Words, but even after he formally apologizes, he can tell that Tsuna is only tolerating him for formality’s sake. Whatever chances he had to win over the young Vongola was probably burned down within the first week of coming here. He curses himself for being blind.
Tsuna calmly corrects him and calls him an arrogant fool.
Eventually I feel like Reborn DOES get into Tsuna-Rufus’s good graces? But it’s never the trust that canon Tsuna (for SOME REASON) had for Reborn, and when it comes to assassinations, Rufus openly trusts his own Elements and the Varia over the “World’s Greatest Hitman”.
Nono and Iemitsu can only watch as Tsuna picks up steam on his journey to heirship and get the feeling they Really Messed Up.
