"...and I have to confess that I was jealous of Randy, because even though I didn't believe it possible, I fell in love with you."

Olive does her best not to react, even if her heart feels like it's going to burst, of joy or sorrow, she isn't sure, "I see," she manages. She takes a breath and says, "This is difficult for me, you see Ned, I've spent years pinning for you."

Ned can't help the wince that escapes him, of course he noticed something, but he had not thought that it was years, "I'm sorry Olive."

But she is generous, and kind, even when a part of her is breaking, "Not your fault, it's hard to compete with a first love."

Another wince from Ned, "If you want me to leave you alone, I'll understand."

She shakes her head, "No, lets take it one day at the time and see what happens."

Something you have found it interesting to observe changing over time?

i was born in the late 90's, right at the time when the majority of kids from my generation would use the computer at home. some of those kids (including myself) quickly got addicted to using the computer on a level above the norm, and people like that were called nerds, nolives, geeks, etc. at school. but now it's totally the norm to use electronic devices constantly. i rarely use my laptop now and my phone usage is very mild when i compare it to that of today's teens' (i still spend a few hours on it everyday on average). even though i think that change is really worrying for their development (speaking from experience), i can't blame them, since it's the kind of environment they're growing up in. it was the same for me with the computer.

on that same topic, teenagers today can't read the time on analog clocks, which is a striking sign of the rise of technology in their everyday lives.

I believe I have talked about the fact that i build custom mechanical keyboards on this page, if I haven’t I build custom mechanical keyboards. Right now I have three that I switch between pretty regularly my Akko 3068b with Bobagum silent linears that I use for school, my bakeneko65 with Anubis tactiles, and my newest piece the scarlet tkl with Nolive linears. I think one of the main draws for me other than the completely custom nature of the hobby is the fact that after im done I have a frankly beautiful tool that functions and acts exactly how I want, which makes using it so much better. I’ve been using mechanical keyboards since I really got into pc gaming because at first I really noticed a difference in how I felt using them. Now I use them to write my papers for school my posts here and do basically anything on my computer. I have to say that since I started building and customizing my keyboards my workflow has been insane, simply because I have a tool im excited to be using. Writing my papers, responding to student emails, and typing, in general, don't feel like such a chore to me anymore. I have also pretty much gotten my whole family into custom keyboards as well and they say the same things as i do. I haven't even talked about how good you can make a keyboard sound or look yet. Every combination of switch keyboard and key cap will have a different sound profile you can go for high or low pitch sounds or somewhere in the middle, this adds a nice element of sensory input every time you go to type something (which some people compare to ASMR). Finally, this wouldn't be complete without talking about the fact that custom keyboards can be gorgeous, and can really change the dynamic of your workspace. There are many forms of visual self-expression, for me having a nice keyboard as the centerpiece of my desk really makes my workspace feel more lively and more mine. Since I have gotten into the custom keyboard hobby I have never felt better about the work I do and my workspaces in general offices whether a home or in designated spaces used to drain the life out of me now I kind of like sitting down and grinding out work.

In her dreams, Olive gets swept off her feet by Ned.

In her dreams, Ned realizes that it is her who he loves. Makes a grand declaration, sweeps her into his arms and they waltz into the sunset. In her dreams, it is perfect.

Reality, however, is far from perfect.

Because Ned loves Chuck, she is giving her heart the chance to love Randy. Emerson is still trying to find his daughter. And she would have never imagined all that was necessary to open her own restaurant. The Intrepid Cow was coming along great. But it was not enough. A large part of her still longed for Ned, for those days in the Pie Hole before Chuck, of when her dreams were not so hopeless.

That is, until there are earth shattering changes one summer day.

It starts with Chuck going to Europe with her aunts, leaving a moping Ned behind. And while Ned tries to hide it, she knows him enough to know that he is. She does her best to be there for him, putting her feelings aside, which proves to be harder said than done. One day, she finds that Randy wants to continue his travels, goes so far as to invite her to come with.

But she can’t. Because for once in her life, she feels at home.

And one day, she bids Randy adieu and well wishes.

To her surprise, Ned comes over her apartment when he finds out with her favorite pie and ice cream. They both talk about the loves they have now said goodbye to.

It takes her a few days for her feelings for Ned come back full force. And she doesn’t know what to do with them. But she soldiers on and pretends that everything is okay.

Ned comes with flowers and pie the day The Intrepid Cow opens. She serves him a special mac n’ cheese she made with him in mind. He loves it and she beams at him and carries on, because on this day is for her restaurant.

Life carried on for a month, until one day, Ned knocks at her door.

When she takes a good look at him, she can see that he is carrying himself different. The flowers are also something that makes her heart skip a beat. And then, Ned speaks.

“Olive, would you go out on a date with me?”

Her heart soars, “I would love to, Ned.”
