Reccers on tumblr appreciation pt. #1

Did you know that tumblr, our little corner of the internet, is filled to the brim with the best reccers around? Yeah. (They are also really, really, really cool). Like:

1. @sitp-recs​​, who everyone knows is rec royalty. How many of us owe Liv at least part of our fandom experience? The amount of love and energy poured into every single rec is honestly astonishing. No matter what you’re looking for, you can be sure Liv’s got it: rare pairs, all the smut you could dream of, and have you checked out the incredible hidden gems series yet?

2. @thedrarrylibrarian​​ – the amount of time and heart the librarian puts into each rec is huge, and still so far from the amount of love and delight we gain from them. You can go through the librarian’s blog for days, whether for a Friday happy hour, a brilliant chat with friends of the library, or just one of the dozens of recs, like this brilliant vacation rec list!

3. @lostdrarryfics​​ are absolutely incredible. Can you believe we live in a world where there’s a whole blog dedicated to help us find lost fic! What! Angels! They found so many fics since starting up and helped countless souls. Check out their guidelines here and then help yourselves! Maybe you can even help find a missing fic!

4. @thebooktopus​​ makes gorgeous recs, including the most brilliant themed lists, like the New Year’s Rec-olutions, or the unbelievably awesome mutuals March, or the wonderful April showers. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re sure to end up happy here!

5. @sweet-s0rr0w​​ is a reccing powerhouse, with glorious recs like ‘5 favourite fics’ and the phenomenal ‘Drarry Round the World’ recs. 7. @phd-mama​​ ran the glorious ‘May we lift each other up’ this May and just. Lifted. So many people. Up!! So much heart, so much effort and love went into these wonderful recs, plus they’re also simply brilliant: May We Life Each Other Up. And may we keep in this spirit!

Day Twenty-Five: Auror Partners

Shock, Shock, Horror, Horror by @maesterchill & @timothysboxers E // 11K // Drarry

🤝 dubcon due to the influence of the curse or potion is my favorite kind (that's a weird thing to say) especially as a "this wouldn't have worked if you two morons didn't already catch feelings" vibe. this fic totally fairies all of that, plus some great banter and a disgruntled Robards: "Draco goes in first, and as soon as Potter's in and has shut the door behind him, Draco's on him, pressing his face into Potter's neck. He smells like expensive aftershave and bacon grease, and it's gorgeous. Potter yelps and tries to push Draco off. And then Potter wilts into it, and it's fine."

Clean Slate by @ladderofyears M // 2K // Drarry

🚿 "there was only one bathroom" is my new favorite"there was only one." unyielding idiots, one shower, hair washing- this fic has everything you need: "Harry gave Draco’s hair the gentlest of tugs. 'Your hair looks like spun gold,' Harry answered. 'Like something exquisite. You touch something precious, you treat it with respect.'"

Come Night's Fall by @corvuscrowned E // 10K // Drarry

😱 I could (and have) re-read this fic over and over again and find something new I love about it each time. it's creepy and a bit terrifying but so beautifully and hauntingly written. even if horror isn't your genre, I suggest you give this one a try: "The wind whistles louder against the cabin, and a cool dread traces down Draco’s neck. Something rustles just outside, the movement of trees, or the stirring of something larger."

Day Eighteen: Fake/Pretend Relationships

Loverboys by @corvuscrowned E // 85K // Drarry

🌞🌝 perfect dose of enemies to lovers, the angst of their push-pull dragged out just enough for you to wonder if they'll ever get it together. their writing is so complex and animated, gripping - you'll be sucked into every moment right alongside Harry. this fic also captures my favorite part of fake relationship tropes: ensemble characters not "in the know" going on about how they've "finally" gotten together and how they'd seen it coming for such a long time. such a fun rollercoaster of a fic, it'll have you putting everything else aside just to read: "'What if he’s being honest?' Harry asks desperately. He can’t just ignore the possibility, no matter how hard he tries. 'What if he’s just taking the opportunity to spill his guts because he knows I won’t believe it?' Harry pauses as he tries to catch even one of the thousands of thoughts in his head. 'Or maybe that’s what he wants me to think — that it’s all true — because I’d think it wouldn’t be — when it’s really false, but he just wants to watch me squirm?' // Ginny pulls her hand away, her frown deepening. 'I can barely follow that,' she says. 'Damn. He’s good.'”

Game On by @pennygalleon T // 4K // Drarry

😘 so. much. flirting. it. is. awesome: "Malfoy, however, didn’t seem inclined to forget it. Instead, he gazed at Harry long enough and thoughtfully enough that Harry felt a flush begin to spread up his neck under the scrutiny, and Malfoy smiled, obviously pleased with himself, when he noticed it. He cast the briefest of glances in the direction of the windows before his smile turned mischievous."

Day Two: Protectiveness

😱💖 I'm not going to say much other than you have to read this. it is simultaneously horrific and yet the softest, sweetest thing I've possibly ever read: "Harry looks up, bright eyes bracketed by bruises and a nasty cut slicing down his cheek and jaw, and Draco has never seen anything more beautiful or terrible; Harry is glowing golden even bloodied and Draco feels like a wisp of air, as though this space has taken most of his existence from him."

A Portrait of Recovery by @moonstruckwytch M // 5K // Drarry

🛁 soft, sweet healing fic featuring a patient Harry who just wants to be present for Draco: "Maybe it's the light glinting off Harry's glasses and illuminating his hair burnished bronze. Maybe it's the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles as he places the mug back on the table. Or maybe it's just that it's been long enough and Draco finally feels like he might deserve to have everything he wants."

Casefile: Operation MoD by @m0srael M // 13K // Drarry

🤯 I don't actually want to say much about this one. It's written through a series of different reports/journal entries and the story is gripping from beginning to end. Just go give it a read!!

Darkest Before the Dawn by @dualwieldteacup M // 47K // Drarry

🐍 AMAZING plot. well-thought out developed story and the Drarry is just *chef's kiss*: "Draco swallowed. He hooked one of his fingers over one of Potter’s, calloused and warm. Then he slowly slipped his hand around so that their palms were touching. And once he began the process, Potter completed it, twining all their fingers together firmly so that it was not the polite clasp of a guide. It was the inseparable hold of two people who meant something to each other, who had hurt each other in the distant past and the not-so-distant past and might do so again, but who chose each other despite everything. Because sense and reason even their tumultuous pasts couldn’t stand a chance against the way his heart felt like it was opening every time Potter drew near—"

😆 genuinely funny, great writing: "If the Weasley joke shop ever manufactured a Harry Potter action figure, it’d probably have three little features: Expelliarmus, gobbling treacle tart, and that bloody neck scratch."

Two Trees by @eelwinks E // 36K // Drarry

🌳🌲 sweet, soft boyfriends figuring each other out for the first time, so much hurt/comfort without being overly angsty: 'Harry exhaled, dropping his gaze to the floor. 'I like seeing you in my clothes. Is that stupid?' // Draco let out a breathy laugh. 'No. It’s not stupid.' Harry smiled a little. 'And I like... wearing them,' Draco admitted, with a shrug."

Day Ten: Angst with a Happy Ending

🥵 p1013 is the world champion of porn with feelings. I guarantee you've never read a more romantic facial in your entire life. this fic packed full of depth and beautiful prose and will leave you wanting more: "He knows the body holding him down. Knows its gives and takes, knows how it will play havoc on his senses in the best and worst ways. Harry keeps his eyes closed, head tilted back, because he doesn't want to see, doesn't want to admit that he wants this as badly as he does."

the private kind of purple by @bluescape M // 6K // Wolfstar

🐺⭐️ this fic feels hushed as you read it, like you're intruding on a private moment between these two boys. it's achy and tender and everything you want from summertime teenage wolfstar: "But he does not slip too far, as Sirius always chooses the exact right moment, not calculated at all; excruciatingly effortless. It is an assault on the senses, Sirius’s arrival — there is the pinprick of magic, and the halting of the weak breeze, and Sirius’s unmistakable scent of leather and the sweet raisin waft of tobacco."

Notte by @in_dreams M // 6K // Theo Nott/Blaise Zabini

🌘 can't get enough of these two. so much pining, spanning two decades succinctly, all the "will they or won't they" you'll ever need: "Finally Blaise spoke, his voice so quiet Theo almost couldn't hear him despite their closeness. 'I don't know, Teo. Even if everything else is infinite... we aren't nothing. Most people don't get to have someone like you. That isn't nothing to me.'"

Two Starts, One Finish by @lqtraintracks E // 5K // Drarry

💔💝 sometimes when I read lqt I wonder if they're using a different set of words than the rest of us. there's always so much power in these stories and this is not an exception. it will flay you open and then stitch you right back up again, seamlessly: "I like who I am when I’m with him sometimes, which is something I’ve caught myself feeling and then soured with the inevitable guilt. Then sometimes I just let it sit, that feeling. I let it sit with all the new feelings I’ve had, like pretty pictures on a shelf, smiling photos of people I don’t always recognise with my eyes but who I know in my heart."

🍆 absolutely smoldering PWP ft. a bossy Draco (with some plot, check out the prequel first!): "Draco lifted his face; he could only see one side of Potter’s face, but it was enough to identify the deep flush that had crept onto Potter’s cheeks and refused to disappear. It still wasn’t embarrassment or shame per se, just arousal mixed with a healthy dose of wickedness."

"Draco wasn't an idiot. He knew he'd be lost without Potter. By the time he returned to the Manor he would hopefully be good enough to provide for, and protect his people on his own. At least Potter had held his word about teaching Draco how to navigate this new world. He was painfully aware of everything Draco did and made sure he followed instructions into the smallest details, even going as far as asking Draco about it while they shared an otherwise silent meal."

🥵 one of my all-time favorite triads! this fic has a brief POV from all three participants; SO HOT getting inside each of their minds and watching them watch the other two. need. MOAR: "I hold my breath, I can tell we’re waiting for Harry. To decide whether to stay or go. To decide whether I’m deserving or not. To decide for us all."

🐲 ⛵️because what I needed in my life was another ship. pale on pale, possessive and one who wants to be possessed - come on, this story is PERFECTION (excuse me while I go bookmark a bunch of Dron fics [thanks @sitp-recs for your perfect timing] and undo any dent I've made in my TBR list): "'It knows us,' Draco answered. 'We're part of it now.' He grinned up at Ron, and he could, he could sense Ron's magic in the mix that was thundering through him, smoky-sweet, a tightly-controlled hunger. He felt like he was shaking out of his skin."

Day Four: Friends to Lovers

💘just a good old fashioned falling in love story. no case to solve, no major angst. blended families, modern interpretations of sexuality and what it means to love: "'Sometimes love comes from weird fucking places, and we sure as hell can’t predict or explain it. It just happens, and when it does, we have to grab it with both hands and hold it ‘til it’s gone. Otherwise, what’s the point of it all? We’re just sacks of meat with no purpose if we don’t shrug off the labels we give ourselves and take a chance sometimes, even if it’s not what we would’ve ever expected.' Harry sighs, and adds, 'Besides, there’s a reason why Mysteries has a whole bloody department dedicated to research on love. It’s messy and complicated and doesn’t follow the rules of physics and nobody can ever truly understand it. We just gotta live a little and learn to live outside the boxes we’re placed in when a door opens, y’know?'"

Old Haunts (Are For Forgotten Ghosts) by @queerofthedagger M // 40K // Regulus/Harry

🕰🛠 fix-it, Harry returns to Marauders era to try and rewrite history, told from Regulus' POV: "As he falls asleep that night, he finally understands how it had been so very easy for Sirius to turn his back on the things their parents tried to instil in them. They might hold up in the secluded walls of Grimmauld Place or Slytherin, but met with a stubborn Potter and a whole lot of new knowledge, it never stood a chance."

The Colour of Magic by @aneiria-writes M // 4K // Theo//Neville/Pansy (panevilleo?)

🐍🦁🐍 this was the first fic I've ever read of this triad and it WORKS. soft, lovely interactions as these three navigate their individual relationships and their eventual coming together (see what I did there?): "Neville laughed as he accepted the glass. ‘I don’t know if you’ve heard, Pans,’ he said with a conspiratorial smile. ‘But I’m kind of a war hero. It takes more than a clever, beautiful woman to scare me away.’"

Is This Love? by @phd-mama E // 3K // Drarry

🛁 yet another suds fic I'm regretting not reading earlier. this is THE fic for Draco taking care of Harry: "Draco wouldn’t call himself a tender man. He fights the forces of evil for a living, trying his best to pay penance for the evil he’s done. He’s fought and killed in the name of duty, and when he’s not on duty, he tends either to play hard or retreat alone. He doesn’t lean on anyone, and he knows he’s not the first person anyone goes to when they need care. Comfort. But at this moment, here with Potter in the tub, soft and naked, reaching out to him, Draco aches to give him… well. Everything."

When the Fallout Comes by @maesterchill E // 7K // Drarry

👋 the hand kink fic you didn't know you needed. but you do. trust me: "It all started, I suppose, in Hogwarts. At first I tried to brush it off. Well, they're just hands, for Merlin’s sake. That’s what I kept telling myself. Although, if I’m honest, it never worked. If I’m really honest, they made my pulse quicken from the very start. I can still recall how sturdily his hands gripped the broomstick as he chased me down, how they closed neatly around that Remembrall like I hadn’t put all my fucking weight behind the throw. And not forgetting the many fights we managed to get ourselves into, Potter’s hands grappling me to the ground, fingers closing around my neck. Those were the worst, in the best way. I remember still feeling their imprint on my skin days later, and it didn't take a great leap of the imagination to imagine the warm pressure of the handshake I’d been denied."

Day Fifteen: Magically Powerful Harry Potter

🤯 creative world-building/magical theory, excellent writing, A+ acquaintances to lovers - it's all here: "'It's in the Ministry's interest to get a handle on these events.' Draco tried hard not to allow contempt to creep into his tone as he said that. The events in question might have never taken place had the Ministry taken the time to learn more about Dementors to begin with, rather than forcing them into their employ at Azkaban, to the detriment of all involved. 'Of course, Dementors are considered magical creatures, and are thus a protected class, so we'll need to tread carefully.'"

To Vanish Into Something Better by @m0srael E // 35K // Drarry

✨ beautifully written, I live for all the tiny details that really add up to create such a vivid picture in my mind white I'm reading. Harry as an architect and his connection to the magic in this story is just : chef's kiss : “'This is my home, Potter,' he said, and Harry nodded silently because he understood. 'Besides, I’m the only one who could. I had to. I had to…create something beautiful in place of all the ugliness. The pain and terror. I couldn’t let it sit, festering away like some infected wound. I am the only one.' Draco turned to face Harry, a fierce look in his eyes."

Playing Dirty by @sweet-s0rr0w E // 8K // Drarry

🛁 HOLY SEXUAL TENSION BATMAN. ooof such sweet, sweet 'anger makes the sex hotter' vibes here: "They complied. Robards began to stalk forwards. Beads of sweat had gathered on his forehead, and he tugged at his collar with his free arm; his wand was still trained on Harry. 'Never, in my entire career, have I known two Aurors – no, scratch that, two grown men – so entirely incapable of working together. This was what, your third botched mission in the last two months? Your third trip to St Mungo’s?' He shook his head in disbelief. 'Who d’you think pays for your incompetence?'"

Five Teas and a Latte by @arielsakura M // 5K // Harry/Blaise

😳 poor, oblivious Harry can't see what's directly in front of his face: Blaise. playful snippets, A+ ending: "Suddenly, the pieces began to fall together. Harry knew he had a tendency to overlook the obvious, after all, he had been completely blindsided when Seamus had popped the question to Dean a few years ago. But to miss all this? Miss the attention Blaise had been giving him? The hints about Hermione mentioning things Harry liked? The opening doors, walking curbside… Harry flushed as he realised Blaise had been acting the perfect gentleman around him and that he had just been completely unaware of the fact that Blaise was interested in him."

My Friend Thinks You're Cute by @drarrelie E // 16K // Drarry

☕️🔥 this smut coffee is scalding hot. Barista Draco is slipped a "my friend thinks you're cute" note one day, leading to a reconnection with Harry: “'I see a man walking blindly into a whole new, unfamiliar world, armed with nothing but determination and pure survival instinct. I see a man open to reevaluating his beliefs, to befriend the people he was once taught to despise and learn how to live among them, as one of them. I see a man who managed to navigate a society he up 'til then knew nothing about, making a new life for himself, a home, a profession, a future — against all odds. I can’t even imagine the amount of courage it must have taken to do what you did.'"

Six Bloody Months by @jet_playin E // 14K // Drarry

🥵 idiots to lovers, mix in a dash of coffeeshop/flower shop AU, add a heavy helping of "let's make up for the last six months against this door" and you have a real winner on your hands: "It didn't matter that Draco dressed in a strange mix of muggle and wizard clothes. Likewise, it didn't matter that Harry constantly wanted to remove them. It didn't matter that his hair carried the scent of a spring breeze or that his breath was sugary sweet from too much coffee, or that both made Harry's fingers itch to delve into that hair so that he could pull him close, taste him. Nor did it make a difference that his apparent lack of boundaries, and caffeine induced restlessness, frequently brought him close enough to Harry to pose an imminent threat to his sanity."

🍴 deliciously fun idiots to lovers. A+ run-around, background/meddling Ron & Pansy. oh, and I almost forgot the best part: smut from the get-go: "Draco sighed. He didn’t have the answer to that question: if people liked him even half the amount they seemed to love the chef behind Sweet Prophecies, he’d never hide his identity. Plus, the wine was completely messing with his thinking abilities— that, or a giant pink elephant had just started flying around the room without anyone else noticing."

Day Twenty-Nine: Animagus

His skin was the perfect blush shade of brown, highlighted in the yellow firelight above. Draco wanted to sink into him, be flesh of his flesh, body of his body. He wanted to reach inside himself and find the things that Harry thought were beautiful and pour them back into Harry. He wanted to sit and stare and never stop."

🌲 I love stories that set these two against a new backdrop, one that isn't necessarily familiar to either of them. this story is an awesome example of that. insanely creative world-building and plot; wonderful OCs. the slow burn between Harry and Draco is delicious and pays off in such a satisfying way: "May scoffs. 'Life is simple if you let it be.' Draco’s mind wanders to Potter, who looked at the hand he was dealt and reached for another deck of cards."

🐺⭐️ let me tell you, wolfstar bodyswap HITS DIFFERENTLY. this author really dug into swapping bodies- their characteristics that might not carry over, etc. it makes them more compassionate towards each other, really special stuff: "Remus' breath catches, Sirius' words dredging up the deeply buried part of Remus that feels like a scared child. He hadn't known how badly he needed those words. Sirius has seen the dark twisted parts of Remus and wants to tell him he’s brave. Sirius shimmies a little closer and presses his forehead against Remus'. 'Every month,' Sirius says. 'You are so strong and good and I fucking love you.'"

🧪 fun, sexy 8th year bodyswap fic - when you're done, go read this deleted chapter - it'll be worth your while, promise: "Harry sank down on a chair with a sigh. His legs were aching with the effort of moving in another body. This was beyond stupid. Just his damn luck. Not only was it a rare thing to have your body switched with another person, but what were the odds that he’d be switched with Malfoy? It was as if the entire universe was against him. From what I do know, I'd say they were a couple years under me...maybe Harry's year? Might be you, Golden Boy, who knows! But sorry, I'll have to leave you guessing, folks. 🛹 8th year fic, skater boy Draco?! swoon. took me right back to the early 2000s in the most pleasant, Drarry of ways: "He watches as Malfoy takes off at a run, smoothly slides onto the skateboard, and pushes off hard. He gathers momentum, barreling right toward a low, stone wall. Harry is sure he’s going to collide with it, but at the last second he bends his knees deeply, his arms loose at his sides, and kicks into the air, board and all."

💞 tacky's writing is so poetic and vivid, it states takes my breath away a little. this is one of those love stories that will break your heart right up until the very end, stitching you just barely back together before it's over. it's beautiful in that way: "You wish you could tell people about him, about how the slow flick of his pages turning is the most peaceful sound you can imagine. About how the best start to your day comes when you get to watch the lick of the shower spray turn his hair to gold as you brush your teeth at the sink. About how you never thought you'd get to have this, but you do, and you want to keep it forever."

🗡 this is a (poetic, beautifully written) ode to Harry's innate ability to really see Draco, all of his faults alongside all of the good in him. plus, Draco throws knives. KNIVES. 😳: "He shook his head, his eyes a little frantic. 'It shouldn’t be so easy. It’s us, and it’s you, and you could ruin me, Harry, if I let you. And it would be so easy to just let you.' He leaned in, futilely fighting a gravitational pull. His lips brushed Harry’s, faintly. Asking. 'I want you to.'"

The Second Life of Severus Snape by @greenmegsnoham E // 16K // Harry/Severus Snape (Snarry)

🖤 Snarry is a pairing I told myself I'd never read. I knew there wasn't any way that an author could convince me that these two could find a way to love each other. boy, was I fucking wrong. this fic is some of the best story-telling I've read in a long while. if you've ever been even slightly intrigued, just give this a try. come back and tell me about it if you do: "Harry felt tears sting his eyes. He could feel the pull towards Snape growing stronger with every passing day, though he felt it strongest in the broach. Snape's true soul was trapped and waiting for Harry to set him free. A prince for the Prince."

🧛🏿‍♂️ there simply isn't enough Deamus out in the world. this fic is like a gift- vampire Dean wanting to protect his love, Seamus's wanting to invite him in, bring him back to love. sweet and super sexy: "Dean could hear the sincerity of Seamus's words, just as he could hear and smell the steady flow of blood throbbing at his pulse points. Even as Dean's chest swelled with love for the man in front of him, his gaze lasered in on the tempting curve of his exposed throat where Dean's enhanced vision could see the faint flutter of blood thrumming through his carotid."

🌊 the writing here is poetry. I don't think I can say much that will do it justice, but it's remarkable and lovely and you will be better for having read it: "I can explain many things, but love is not one of those. Love happens outside the realm of what’s touchable, even to me. I can tell you for certain that they are very much in love with each other, for many months — even years — before Harry finally presses Draco against the wall on the landing and kisses him senseless, making Draco sigh and his heart beat wildly in elation."
