To Conservatives who play apologetics for Donald Trump here is a list of people and things he doesn’t respect:
Our troops
Our veterans
Liberals
Conservatives who don’t make conservatism about him
NATO
The international community
Immigrants
Bureaucrats and civil servants
Rule of law and fair courts
Budget austerity and economic stability
YOU
While I absolutely and whole heartedly disagree with Biden on many, many, issues, it is for the health of our party, our international reputation, and of the country that conservatives do not back Donald Trump.

BREAKING: Actor John Leguizamo blasts indicted 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, his shady son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Univision in a blistering op-ed in the Los Angeles Times.
The iconic Latino actor didn’t hold back nor mince words, accusing Donald Trump of proposing an “inhumane and vicious immigration policy plan for 2025” if he is elected in 2024 — and accusing the Spanish-language network of betraying its audience.
Leguizamo declared, “On November 9, Univision aired an hourlong interview with him that held a completely uncritical lens on the dangerous policies Trump espoused during his presidency and what he has vowed to set in motion if he is elected in 2024.”
But Leguizamo wasn’t done there…
The actor also pointed out in his op-ed that the conversation occurred just days before Trump’s “inhumane and vicious immigration policy plan for 2025” was announced by his “white nationalist” adviser Stephen Miller.
Leguizamo continued, “These plans echo why Trump is considered the most anti-Latino president in American history and recall his four years in office stoking hate speech and causing suffering for so many people. Despite past indignities and dangerous plans, Univision’s new corporate owners — one of whom is friends with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner — have decided to shift the network’s editorial approach and buddy up with Trump less than a year before an immensely consequential election for Latino voters. The press has a duty to ensure that the government is accountable to the people it serves. Any corporate decision that undermines that role is dangerous and an abuse of the public’s trust. As one of the most relied-upon news sources for Spanish speakers, Univision has a responsibility to report the facts and maintain journalistic integrity, regardless of which politician the CEO chooses to befriend.”
Please share the link to this post to thank John Leguizamo for setting Trump, Kushner, and Univision straight — and invite your friends to join the goriest exodus to Tribel!

*eye roll*. It’s like we’re living permanently in a film noir version of A Confederacy of Dunces.
I just came across this reference to the “Slippery T” Trump submarine recently, it’s got very little to do with anything but...well *shrug”, does anything anymore?

I dunno but this seems kinda apposite:
external torpedo tubes had major problems and affected the streamlining of the boats

Spring Equinox, In the Balance
Here is the latest in my series mixing current events with spiritual practice.
Brigid’s Rituals, Part 3 My partner and I sit on our bench in the woods. We inhale the early green smell of spring and relish the mysterious in-between moment –when day meets night at dusk-dark, and when day and night are equal. It’s the spring equinox. Before us the crossroads marks the start of two diverging paths, each ending at a ritual circle. We stand, hug, and take separate paths. Mine…

NEVER NEVER NEVER Trump
A lovely morning today… [Dartmouth, Devon. This morning, just after dawn. Photo by me.] …until I checked my phone and saw what he said Saturday night in South Carolina, and that idiots present were actually cheering. I was almost physically sick. I felt I had to post this today. This needs saying and I do not state this lightly. Continue reading NEVER NEVER NEVER Trump

The bad news bearers.
Tumblr media
January 29, 2024
While the media try to keep us all tuned in by endlessly repeating the coming presidential election will be a neck-and-neck horse race, recent polls and primaries are providing increasing evidence that Donald Trump's an even weaker candidate this time around than he was when Joe Biden beat him like a rented mule in 2020.
Election victories are always the result of two key elements: persuasion (winning over voters with your arguments) and enthusiasm (animating them to come out and vote for you). And candidate Trump is failing bigly in both. Rather than attracting new voters to his side, Trump's campaign speeches are nothing more than a rambling jumble of insults, bullying, whining and incoherence. All intended solely for the entertainment of his devoted fans.
But as more and more Republicans tire of these stale performances — and recoil in disgust from his nearly 100 felony indictments — Party leaders are noticing a significant drop in enthusiasm for their anointed nominee-to-be. For example, while Trump's rallies are often teeming with his dim-witted, rabid supporters, photos and videos of these events indicate they're no longer at capacity. Even though Trump falsely insists "thousands of people" are being turned away from every rally.
Pew research has reported that 63% of Americans of all political affiliations have an unfavorable opinion of Trump – up from 60% the previous year. And a CNN/SSRS survey found Trump's favorability rating among even GOP voters waning from 77% in May of 2023 to 67% in June. Remarked Utah senator and former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, “I don’t think he has the same enthusiasm he did in 2016, but I think he has plenty to become the nominee.”
Some wish to see in Trump's primary victories — where he garnered only a little over half the vote — an electoral powerhouse. But look under the hood, and there are definite signs of potential weakness. Here's Politico explaining why:
There’s a whole swath of the Republican electorate and a good chunk of independents who appear firmly committed to not voting for him in November if he becomes the nominee.
While nowhere near a majority of today's MAGAfied GOP, these anti-Trumpers still may be able to prevent him from regaining the White House, as The Bulwark recently pointed out:
There may not be enough of these Never Trump voters to determine the outcome of a Republican primary; but there may be more than enough to sway the outcome of the general election, especially in the key swing states.
And for the Republican National Committee's "presumptive nominee," these come as unpleasant tidings, indeed.

Listening to Mike Duncan talk about the fall of the roman republic and it does make me think about The Future, when sadly the only surviving historical documents available will be from NeverTrump conservatives.

I wonder when it's going to occur to Jared fans that he abandoned them.
If you are an SPN fan. If you are liberal/progressive. Stop projecting at him.
He's vanishing by choice from more and more conventions. He COULD have made it to last Jib, he had the weekend off, Jensen worked Friday too. There's a lot of Could Haves Jared could choose for SPN. He could have dreamed up more than Random Case Idea if he cared. He literally does not care beyond his publicity and paycheck.
He's chosen to signal Good Christian Southern Living. He's chosen Gun and other distinctly right wing and southern articles. His show is literally based on moderacy and riding the edge of the coin. He literally got a tattoo that is so offensive the archaic symbol has been removed from recent issue IDs in the state it was used as a nationalist symbol in--before he chose to get it. Something conscious enough his own wife hides behind stickers on IG posts. He's chosen Tulsi, and Rogan, and all other kinds of blatantly right wing outlets. He's caught covid three times. He's selling random health supplements.
Fam, I don't know how to break this to you, but Jared's become a Republican. Possibly a NeverTrumper, but a Republican none the less.
Stop arguing with me. Go argue with him. It's his fucking marketing, not mine. It's his covid, not mine.
But they wanna argue it away because their playdoll isn't behaving properly and they're just, idk, gonna be insufferable to everybody else that has eyeballs while they argue against not just plain reality, but the marketed one Jared is hanging up with star spangled banners.
But that's not real good if you wanna pretend to care about progressive things (often while butchering important topics to mask severe homophobia or racism), because how will they stay Socially Just Middle Class White Woman then??? So no duh reality isn't real reality can't hurt them.
Guys. What the fuck. You do realize Jared Padalecki is like, an actual person, who is doing and saying and making choices in an actual real world outside of the internet, and not like a doll or some figment of your imagination you can roleplay with, right?
Accept it. He turned on you. Now either shit and get off the pot and admit you turned with him, or make a moral decision on your own time, but leave us out of your psychic bubble burst.

My mom watches a lot of MSNBC, and I can't help but notice it's heavy on Trump coverage. Well, the word "coverage" is doing some heavy lifting there: there isn't a whole lot of Trump news, so a lot of it is just having talking heads on to discuss and speculate on all things Trump, up to and including how bad it'd be if he got re-elected.
I get why liberals, especially boomer libs, tend to be all "vote blue no matter who." They're terrified of Trump and bingeing MSNBC is their version of doomscrolling. People talk about January 6th but Trump has been these people's bogeyman since November 8th 2016, oozing right past norms like an orange T-1000.

"Wait, he can just do that?"
But I honestly think the best case scenario for the Democrats would be Trump getting the nomination. He doesn't have Bannon to do his campaign strategizing for him, and his ability to campaign much at all might be curtailed by however his court battles shake out. Anyone who's ever worked for him with a shred of competence has either gone to jail as a result, had a complete falling out with him, and/or has published tell-all books about their time under him. His cult following is weird and loyal, but it's worth remembering that the dude has never won the popular vote, and he doesn't have the sort of strategists around who know where and how to game the election to finagle him an electoral college win like he did in 2016.
The second-best thing to a Trump nomination that could happen to the Biden campaign would be Biden finally going into the light, letting Harris coast in on the sympathy vote. I'd be more concerned about the B team.
Everyone likes to joke about the current band of losers in the Republican debates, "vying for which one of them won't be President." But just as none of them seem able to wrestle the Republican base out of Trump's grasp, none of them scare the normal people the way Trump does. Biden squandering political capital to be Bibi's Best Buddy would cost him a lot more against these guys. Scared voters "vote blue no matter who." Disgruntled and apathetic voters stay home.
The Lincoln Project/NeverTrumper types would happily go for a "normal" Republican like Christie. Their issues with Trump (and Trump wannabes like Desantis and Ramaswamy) are all about style, not substance. They'll happily back any Heritage Foundation stooge that knows how to act. This also means people with administration experience, subject matter expertise, y'know, competence, will go back to working to put these guys in office.
Also, frankly, Trump is a 77 year old man with a hot dog addiction. There's a nonzero chance he could just kick the bucket, forcing his legion of dipshits to settle down and fall in line behind just about any of these guys.

Scott Morefield has written for all the worst conservative publications—Breitbart, Daily Caller, The Blaze, WND, something called “American Greatness” which just has to be the worst, and currently, Townhall. In 2020, he was singularly obsessed with “corona fascism,” claiming that, “people in this country ... are so in love with their slave gags that they’re willing to mandate them literally forever,” and hyperventilating that “’Black Lives Matter’ wants to ‘burn down’ Western civilization and replace it with a communist/Socialist hellscape.” It was very measured, well-reasoned stuff.  (Turns out, however, that Democrats were happy to ditch mask mandates as soon as it became possible to do so, and one would think that police could refrain from murdering Black people in a market-based economy.) On top of all that, he was really big on Donald Trump, arguing that the “lying media” and “Trump haters” were “twist[ing] his words,” that Trump supporters had the moral high ground despite the efforts of “the #NeverTrump ‘right’ and the anti-Trump left,” and blasting “the Republican governors who betrayed Trump.” He wrote about the “five ways Trump is literally saving the world,” claimed that, “God has clearly used a flawed President Trump to accomplish great things,” and lamented that investigations into Trump’s crimes was problematic because “Trump Derangement Syndrome [masked] the tragic combination of overcriminalization and political persecution.”  Morefield was such an ardent supporter of Trump, that he clapped back at critics after writing a less-than glowing piece on Trump: “Others who had quite obviously never read anything I’ve ever written called me a (gasp) ‘Never Trumper.’ If I’m completely honest, that one stung a bit, especially considering how much grief I’ve given real Never Trumpers over the years.” Well, how times have changed!  On Friday, he tweeted his mea culpa.  One of the saddest parts of this whole Trump / DeSantis party fracture is having to admit that 2015/16 NeverTrumpers & Lincoln Project grifters - many if not most of whom I still believe were acting in bad faith - nevertheless may have been right about something. They said he would destroy the GOP and take the country down with him. Well, it took a few years, but now he's doing just that, and the pain train that's coming is only gaining steam. When he won in '16 and started doing some good things, we thought we were in the clear and those losers were thoroughly repudiated, but in hindsight we were never in the clear. Now, the devil is coming for his due, and none of us are going to like the reckoning. I won’t sit here and defend the Lincoln Project, as the conservatives behind it are the very same people that created the political conditions that allowed Trump to emerge and thrive in the first place. But there’s no doubt that the never-Trumpers have been objectively right. Trump has been a disaster for the Republican Party, costing them elections in 2018, 2020, and 2022. Trump’s supporters may not care about his moral bankruptcy, his and his family’s grifting, his crimes, or his support for fascist Russia. But there is no way they can spin three straight losing election cycles in a row (including a midterm amidst high inflation and low Biden approval numbers) as anything but an abject disaster for their party.  Anyway, the “Leopards Ate Face” meme comes from this seminal tweet:

To know him is to loathe him.
Tumblr media
January 25, 2024
Donald Trump loves nothing better than to insult, mock and otherwise attack his perceived enemies. Whether it's Democrats, the media, judges, prosecutors, the "deep state" or any of a host of others, he delights in blathering endlessly and annoyingly about his plans to wreak vengeance upon them.
But these are not the enemies Trump should be worrying about. On the contrary, the biggest threat to the traitorous career criminal are the people he once hired to work for him, who know him best, and have come to recognize him for the dangerous narcissistic sociopath he is. Consider these examples.
Former defense secretary Mark Esper: “He puts himself before country. His actions are all about him and not about the country.”
Former chief of staff and national security advisor General John Kelly: "He is the most flawed person I know. The depths of his dishonesty are astounding.”
General James Mattis, Trump's first defense secretary: "He is more dangerous than anyone could ever imagine.”
Another national security advisor, John Bolton: "He’s not fit to be president.”
Trump's second attorney general, Bill Barr: “Our country can't be a therapy session for a troubled man.”
General H.R. McMaster, yet another national security advisor: “President Trump [has] repeatedly compromised our principles in pursuit of partisan advantage and personal gain.”
Former assistant to Trump's chief of staff, Cassidy Hutchinson: “Clearly an irrational man.”
Former secretary of state Mike Pompeo: “We can’t be following celebrity leaders with fragile egos who refuse to acknowledge reality.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, former White House Director of Strategic Communications: “A second Trump term could mean the end of American democracy as we know it.”
Plus, of course, Trump's own VP, Mike Pence: “Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States."
And this is only a partial list of those who have spoken out against the disgraced ex-president. Others include his former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen; his one-time secretary of state, Rex Tillerson; his secretary of education, Betsy DeVos; his secretary of labor, Elaine Chao; his transition manager, Chris Christie; his former communications director Anthony Scaramucci, and so many more that we risk running out of room.
Not only do his one-time friends invariably become two-timing foes, they also present the most danger to Trump personally. Because it's the testimony of people like these that could put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Which would be good news for the rest of us who also despise him.
