Tumblr media
Possible Hooks –––-
Highly Skilled Gegenji Smith - Member of the Gegenji family, which has some fame around Yanxia, Chachanji is extremely skilled at his craft. While he focuses mainly on crafting armor to protect others, he is also able to craft tools, perform all sorts of repairs and maintenance and - should he be properly swayed and convinced to do so - craft very powerful weaponry.
(It should be noted that due to his pacifistic nature, getting him to make or improve weaponry will require a high degree of trust with the individual.)
Seneschal of House Dentra - Through a strange rite of initiation, Chachanji is now the current head of a minor Ul’dahn noble house. House Dentra is most notable for also being the owner of a Smelting Guild, owning various facilities and mines scattered across Eorzea. They also help staff the satellite facility “Three Ingot Outlet” (named after the aforementioned initiation) that opens during the Sultana’s Breath Shopping Arcade.
Mr. Eorzea/”Champion” Chachan - Chachanji has been crowned the victor in two competitions - the Mr. Eorzea competition and the Grindstone. While he has only won each once, these victories somehow remain decently well known - likely due to how much it flusters him - with the latter in no small part due to the sweetwater and fruit juice drink named after him at the Quicksand. Despite this he still tends to pop by the Grindstone itself now and then as either a spectator or a participant for training purposes.
Free Paladin of Ul’dah - While he doesn’t directly work with the Sultansworn, Chachanji has been ordained a proper Free Paladin of Ul’dah by one Coatleque Crofte. He does often take up various levequests to help people under that title, and - more commonly - serves as a regular resource for the Sultansworn to have their regalia repaired and refitted. He also assists the Flames in a similar capacity, so anyone with connections with either group might have seen or heard of the little smith.
Source or First - Chachan is currently on the Source but I do have plans in mind for Chachan to end up stuck on the First thanks to the antics of a Pixie named Gria Gai - and possibly need of help and/or a way back home! When it happens is still up in the air (and probably can be shifted around if needed), but it does mean Chachan could potentially encountered in either Shard. And even if Chachan is still on the Source, he has a Reflection on the First that is still plenty available to be interacted with.
What I’m Looking for ––––
Friends - Chachan is always one to make new friends, even if they seem the sort that most might not give a fair shake to. From Garleans to half-voidsent, if you seem like a decent enough person, he’ll probably be willing to at least try!
Customers - As a skilled smith, it’s nice to actually have Chachan doing his job via RP rather than just saying he does. This extends from armorcraft to repair to possibly even serving a potential source of work at one of House Dentra’s facilities or mines.
Helping People - Chachan likes trying to help people out, so whether for one-shots or in longer arcs, getting to have the little guy help out someone in need would be pretty neat. Just lemme know what the general idea is and we can see if the floofy-haired dork can help out in it!
RP in General - Slice of life, RP events, arcs. Basically I’m just looking to interact more with the various interesting people, places, and occurrences that take place in the world of FFXIV! It’s part of my goal in Shadowbringers to really get Chachan out there a lot more.
Tumblr media
OOCly, I am ––––
A contract programmer who is free most evenings, and frequently looking for someone to RP with, just hang out, or even go flail around in Overwatch. Most of my evenings and weekends tend to be open, so I’m looking to fill them with SOCIAL ACTIVITIES.
I will warn up front that I’m the sort that doesn’t like to idle around too much, however. So, if I don’t have anything planned for the day, I’ll often try to entertain myself doing something - whether it be leveling Jobs or Trusts or what-have-you. The thing to keep in mind is that these are usually just my way to waste time, and I would often prefer to do something like RP instead! So please feel free to poke me via /tells or Discord or whatever, even if it looks like I’m busy. I will definitely let you know if I am, but more likely I’ll totally drop whatever I’m doing for something far more fun - like RPing with you!
As for the RP itself... I’m open to try most things within reason. Overly dark or violent themes will likely need to be okayed first (I’m not against them but Chachan’s a cheerful, friendly, gentle sort and that can clash with very gritty stories sometimes!), but I’m willing to give a lot of more lore-bendy ideas and plots a shot if you can sell me on it! I am also open for RP/chatting both in-game proper as well as over Discord (Hamelin#0069).
Tumblr media
Additional Plot Hook: Gojirafell ––––
Chachanji - due to a sort of monkey’s paw situation involving a strange snake oil salesman and a modified Gobbielixir potion - has gained the ability to pull an Apache Chief or Ultraman and become quite large. How large is dependent on how much aether he intakes - and thus something he has to watch out for. Overhealing, anything with ether-like properties, and even the aether that Primals use when they seek to temper (which oddly enough makes him immune to that effect) will cause this to happen whether he likes it or not. As such, he tries to avoid situations where the very large cat might be let out of the bag.
This is kept under a Read More mostly because it is a Plot Hook that could fall outside people’s comfort zones where it comes to lore-bending and personal head-canons. As such, it’s something that only will be a Thing in situations where it is clearly identified that it is being used and, more importantly, that everyone involved is okay with it. Otherwise, it will rarely - if ever - be directly alluded to or even referenced. After all, it’s something Chachan would be trying to keep secret about in either case!
As for how someone might come across this odd trait, the events of his trip to Kugane - the rescue of the sinking ship specifically - resulted in a drunken captain and crew spouting tales of a sea giant that rescued them. These were overheard by a Kugane writer and have become the basis of a series of Doman stories and picture books. Not to mention the events of the recently completed Kyodai Hero arc could provide further ways!
Or we could probably manage to manufacture a scene where the secret slips - either just slip of the tongue or witnessing the Gojirafell himself! Especially for any First RP as the Pixie that abducted him is well aware of his ability and gets an absolute kick out of messing with him with it. Both to embarrass him and to glamour his outfit to show off her burgeoning fashion sense on such a sizable canvas (Yes, she takes some cues from Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura)!

Right. This isn’t the easiest post to make, but I’ve given it enough time and it’s not improving, so...
I am looking for a small, welcoming, and active Free Company to join on Brynhildr.
My old FC fell apart after the data center split, with almost everyone moving to Lamia. I have things binding me to Brynhildr, though, so I could not follow. Following the passing of a dear friend, who was one of the few to regularly log into Brynhildr, my old FC has all but died. I am now hoping to join a new one.
What I offer:
I’m active. I usually pop in a few times a week on Kasumi.
Competent but not godly WHM, caught up to the end of the story. I can reliably clear most EX battles, although I admit I do my farming on unsync whenever possible. I have DNC levelled and am working on RDM, AST, NIN, and GNB, but WHM will always be prioritised for gear and is my most comfortable and competent class.
Happily willing to use said WHM, and later GNB, to queue boost people for roulettes or progress.
Very slowly working on Crafting and Gathering. I can make some basic things but nothing huge or very sought after, I’m afraid.
Friendly but non-obtrusive: you probably won’t notice I’m there most of the time, and if you do it won’t be because I’m causing drama.
Note that my timezone is weird because I’m a European playing on an NA server. I’m in GMT+2, which becomes GMT+1 in Winter.
What I’m looking for:
A semi-active to active FC. I just want some people I can play the game with on Kasumi.
A few fellow veterans. I’m fine with helping newbies, but I’m not comfortable being THE most experienced player in a group.
Not too huge. I don’t do well with crowds and would rather just have a small, cozy group.
Crafters. I’ll be honest, sometimes I want furnishings, glamour items, or orchestrion rolls that are stupidly expensive on MB. I’m able and willing to shove some resources and efforts into getting the materials, but I simply cannot put them together myself.
Have roots, cannot travel: Due to being attached to my own house, I cannot leave my server. The FC has to be on Brynhildr.
Explicit conversations in the public chat are a dealbreaker. This includes discussion, and not just ERP.
Of no consequence:
Housing. I have my own house, and an FC does not need to have one in order to be of interest to me.
RPing. Kasumi is an RP character and I have some eccentricities because of my RP proclivities, but I do not usually RP in-game, so the FC does not have to accommodate this.
Hardcore raiding. I have never raided a Savage battle and I don’t know if I can commit to a static, so the FC doesn’t have to have one with space for me.
Discord. I mute most discord channels to prevent myself from being flooded with irrelevant messages and tend to get most of my notices in-game, so an FC doesn’t need to have a discord channel. If it does have one I will join, but will have to be pinged.
If I’ve piqued your interest, please drop me a line in Tumblr DM or askbox, or in game if I happen to be on. I am currently still in Scattered Remnants and as such cannot be invited directly, nor will I accept random invites. Please contact me first.

The Roleplay Elite
Hey, I’m Kae, I’ve been roleplaying for over ten years now, and have been writing for even longer than that. Over the years, I have learned a lot about my “trade” and have developed a strong and personal connection with the activity, my characters, and most of all, those roleplay with. Suffice is to say, I have a very close relationship with my current group of friends. We don’t just roleplay, but, it is how we all met, and remains the thread which adds so much flourish and energy to our lives together. With how supportive and loving we all are with each other, I always want to make an effort to invite others into our circle, but most of the time it seems this simply doesn’t work well. However, I am determined, and am not ready to give up on spreading the magic that is our little community.
Thus, I introduce to you, The Roleplay Elite; a specialized competition of sorts, in which I will be accepting applicants to try out for a place in our group. In this competition, there will no single winner, nor may there be a winner at all. The process of this game is to act as a sort of trial in order for me to get a feel for you, your style of roleplay, and the types of characters you tend to make. In this trial, I will invite four to six applicants to join me in a Discord server, where we will spend the next few months roleplaying one on one and in groups using various topics and characters. In this trial period, I will be taking a look at not just your ability to roleplay cohesively, and to my personal─and the group’s─preferences, but also at your individual personalities out of character and in casual chat. I don’t view my roleplay partners as simply that, and prefer to use roleplay as a foundation to make new friends who, hopefully may last for life. With one of my friends having been with me for eight or more years at this point, I feel that there is something strong in the connections I build, and I want to share that with whoever is willing to make the effort to meet me halfway. With this said, please keep in mind that simply having proper grammar and syntax, as well as fleshed out characters, strong world-building, and an ability to post at least every other day will not be the only basis for which I judge you. I will also be looking for how well you behave as a person, and simply how you interact with a group of individuals who all have their own likes, dislikes, discomforts, and personal issues. In my groups, we care about each other more than we do about the actual roleplay, and we always make sure everyone in the group is happy and healthy.
So, without further ado, if you’re interested in joining The Roleplay Elite, please message me with the following form and if I feel that you are fit for the trial, then I will send you a link to the Discord server. Trial will begin Friday, November 2nd, 8th 2018 at 8:30 PM PDT [20.30 -7 GMT]. All are welcome to apply, no matter where you may be in the world, time zones are really not a problem as I’m typically online 24/7 as it is, however, a fair understanding of English is appreciated.
Rules
Must be 17 or older to apply; exceptions may be made, but this is simply for legal purposes, as my group tends to get a bit raunchy at times.
Those against LGBTQAI+ need not apply; sorry, I’d rather not deal with that drama and we are 1000% LGBT members.
Political activists also need not apply; again, just don’t want the drama. If you can keep it to yourself, be my guest, but if you’re going to be in the out of character chat talking about Trump and whatever else, then please simply move on.
Grammar and spelling are key. Please be sure that you remember capitalization in your writing.
Narrative, paragraph format in third person point of view, past tense only; This is a very strong preference of all members of my group. Asterisk roleplay used anywhere but in casual chat will not be accepted.
No X-rated or heavily sexualized characters, plots, or other content, please; I prefer to focus more on character relations and connections, as well as the actual plot of the roleplay.
Plot is also key, I rarely go into a roleplay blind, preferring to have at least a general idea of where the story is going, and what the basic world may be.
Application Form
Preferred Name: What do you prefer to be called in a casual setting
Are you comfortable with possible pet names? Yes / No
Preferred Pronouns: What pronouns do you personally identify with; this is not me asking what’s in your pants
Age or Age Range: Whichever you feel more comfortable sharing
Location: Time zone, or however specific you wanna be; please don’t share exact city or address
Roleplay Experience: In years
Preferred Generes: What sort of themes and stories do you typically roleplay. E.g. Modern lifestyle, supernatural, paranormal, science fiction, western, fantasy, steampunk etc. etc.
Example Starter Post: Write up an example of how you might start a general roleplay with any original character, plot, and theme of your choice. Please have at least five to seven sentences creating a full paragraph. Try to set a scene and provide subtle exposition for the world and story you are attempting to build.
Why do you want to join The Roleplay Elite? In however many words you feel necessary, please tell me why you wish to join my group. What your interest is, why you feel you will be a good fit, and how you think you’ll fit in and interact with my existing friends.
Extras: Anything else you feel necessary. Did I miss something you want to share? Let me know!

Why we went from Slack to Discord
Tumblr media
The beginning of 2020 was one of the most difficult moments of the last decade. The rapid spread of SARS-COVID-2 and the consequent quarantine imposed by the various countries of the world has led many companies to discover and approach remote work for the first time, in order to protect their employees while still being able to work without attending the office. However, choosing the right tools to support remote collaboration is almost as difficult a challenge as adopting "smart" working methodologies that allow you to keep productivity high. The panorama of available choices is vast, from open-source tools such as Jitsi and Nextcloud to commercial services such as Slack and Google GSuite, each with its own strengths and peculiarities.
At Mikamai we have always been used to working in a "smart" way, preferring asynchronous and written collaboration wherever possible to make our business more streamlined and agile. This allows us to expand our operational area to the entire world, both in terms of customers and collaborators. In fact, many colleagues do not work from our main office in Milan, Italy, but from more comfortable places for them, such as other Italian or European cities, even other continents. We have long been GSuite users for shared documents, GitHub for hosting our projects, Trello for managing activities and Slack for internal communication.
However, we recently started to feel the limitations of Slack’s free plan. Mikamai has grown, the number of people and messages written every day has grown significantly with it, and we have found ourselves to frequently exceed the limit of 10,000 messages, thus losing potentially important conversations and messages. The lack of group video calls forces us to use Google Meet, an excellent video conferencing solution but which lacks the immediacy of starting a call directly from the text chat. However, paid plans, the price of which increases for each employee present in the workspace, are not very appealing to us. So we started scouting for a tool that would better meet our needs.
In the past few months we have tried several online communication tools, in particular Mattermost, an open source alternative to Slack, JetBrains Space, a collaboration and management service that includes a chat very similar to Slack, and Discord, a communication platform designed for gamers and online communities, but with very interesting features also for companies that work in a distributed way.
The latter has caught our attention, and here are the reasons that led us to adopt it as our corporate communication tool.
Voice chat is only one click away
Despite working mainly in an asynchronous way through email, Trello cards and comments on the code repositories, direct conversation is a very important tool especially for creative activities that benefit from a rapid and continuous exchange of ideas between the participants. The ability of immediately entering a group voice chat, with excellent audio quality and with the support of text chat and screen sharing is perhaps Discord's main strength, and what really convinced us in attempting the transition.
Brainstorming and planning sessions can be started quickly without the overhead that changing tools entails when using services outside the chat, as was our case with Google Meet. Everything is much more natural and immediate, promoting communication and the exchange of ideas rather than discouraging them.
It is also very convenient for organizing virtual coffee breaks, allowing you to maintain human contact with colleagues that you risk losing by working remotely.
Granular control over roles and permissions
Discord was created to host online communities, mainly in the gaming world but extending over time to all those groups of users who need a safe digital space in which to meet and chat. For this reason, the platform provides a wide range of permissions, which can be grouped into roles to be assigned to users, allowing you to granularly control which actions are granted to which users, and in which channels. In our particular case we do not manage a public space but a private server, however it is not used solely for business purposes. We have dedicated some channels to external activities, like video games or role-playing games, which involve the presence of users who are not part of the company staff, such as family members and playmates, former colleagues and partners of other companies. Thanks to Discord's powerful permission system, these users have access only to the channels for which they were authorized, while the company's internal chats are hidden and inaccessible.
This also allows us to invite our customers to join the server to facilitate the exchange of information with them. For each project, a text channel and a corresponding voice room is created, along with a role that allows access to them. When the customer enters the server and is assigned the role, he can then access these channels and actively collaborate with us, without being able to see reserved areas and spaces dedicated to other active projects.
We have also created a dedicated announcement channel, in which only Mikamai's administrative staff can write, to support the internal mailing list in quickly sharing official news and communications with colleagues.
External integrations
Slack boasts a multitude of integrations with third-party systems, from ticketing and project management platforms to infrastructure alarms and monitoring systems. Discord does not have the same spread in the business and development world, but provides the possibility to configure the integrations in a Slack compatible mode, basically allowing to integrate any system that can interact with Slack. Discord also has a robust and diverse chatbot ecosystem, small applications that act like automatic users and increase native chat features. For example, a very successful bot in Mikamai’s server is Groovy, a bot that allows you to play music to all users connected to a voice channel as a kind of virtual jukebox. Thanks to it, we can share our music with colleagues, allowing everyone to add songs to the playlist being played.
Cost
Obviously one aspect that we have not underestimated during our evaluation is the monetary cost compared to the competition. All of Discord’s core features are completely free, providing paid additions mainly aimed at the gaming world, especially streamers and youtubers, such as the ability to add custom emojis, customize the profile and improve audio and video quality. This, added to the points previously discussed, was one of the key points for Mikamai in making the decision to migrate to Discord.
Testimonials
Given that I’m not a very techy person, which often limits me in discovering the full potential of this type of tool, I must say that I find Discord very versatile. I really appreciate the possibility of enabling audio channels that allow an immediate switch between text communication and voice communication (especially group chats). Having an unlimited number of messages always available free of charge is, of course, another nice advantage.
Debora, Office Manager.
Discord adds syntax highlighting for code snippets, unlimited message history, integrated calls, screenshare with up to 50 people (during the COVID-19 period), a really advanced role and permission system, and is very easy to integrate with external tools. I don't know what more you could ask for.
Nicola, Tech Lead.
I have been using Discord for more than a year mainly for gaming but also to talk or see my friends. I immediately found it intuitive and with a youthful graphic feeling. Its strength is absolutely being free, I still remember when I had to communicate with other players simultaneously, we used TeamSpeak and it required us to spend a lot of money every month for a dedicated server, with an increasing cost based on the amount of users who could connect at once, a real nightmare. With Slack, I suffered (and still suffer) because of the limited chat history, 10,000 messages or a month of history and then that’s it. How many lost links, how many chats that have fallen by the wayside ("I wrote it to you on Slack", "When ???")... Discord is, in my opinion, the tool par excellence of remote communication both for gaming, chatting and companies.
Daniela, Frontend Developer
Conclusions
Discord has proved to be an excellent corporate communication platform despite being mainly geared towards the world of gaming and digital communities. The speed with which it is possible to start talking with colleagues and organize virtual meetings has allowed us to facilitate the transition even for those who were not previously used to working completely remotely, and has given us back a part of the warmth that sharing the day with our coworkers transmit, reducing the alienation due to the emergency situation in which we find ourselves. We will have the opportunity to test it thoroughly in the coming months, but we are sure that it will prove itself to be a valid and central tool for our daily work.

The Potential Benefits of Hosted Lobbies in Destiny 2 PvP and PvE
I’ve been thinking about Destiny and matchmaking for a long time now and I’ve written and spoken tens of thousands of words on the topic. I think what Bungie has achieved thus far with Destiny has been incredible and even through the ups and down, they as a company have managed to create a franchise unlike anything we’ve seen before.
One of the biggest challenges the studio faced early on was in how to build and match players in an online, persistent and seamlessly matchmade universe. There is a great video from GDC a few years back of Justin Truman breaking down how the developers achieved this. I’m not going to go into too many specifics here, but I encourage anyone interested to watch the video as it is really fascinating. The end result was a PvE experience of planets made of a collection of connecting zones of “public bubbles’’ each of which were for the most part built in a circle with sections between that allowed the game to match us and our fireteam members with new guardians as we moved zone to zone. There are also off-shoot “private bubbles” which are the branching off story missions, strikes, etc, accessible by just us and/or our fireteam.
PvP meanwhile remained mostly unchanged from Halo in the general setup and approach. We and our teammates still queue for matches and are then matched by different variables (region, connection, skill, etc) with other players. This was done in D1 on a peer-to-peer network and in D2 a hybrid system in which every activity is hosted on Bungie servers vs player consoles in D1. All told these systems for PvE and PvP have performed well enough to make Destiny one of the top game franchises in the world and as well crafted as the systems have been overall, there is always room for improvement with anything and I believe after 4 years of experiencing this game, the cracks in both systems have started to show through.
I believe of the two environments, PvE has been much more successful in achieving the goals the developers had for what they wanted Destiny to be. That said we have seen areas where the current architecture leaves more to be desired. In my opinion the most glaring examples would be:
The ability to match larger groups of friends for activities like Court of Oryx, Archon Forge, Escalation Protocol, and Blind Well.
The ability for players to easily group up and find other random players within the game to do higher endgame PvE content such as Nightfalls and Raids.
Create an experience within an online, open world, multiplayer game in which players are able to meet, connect and easily communicate with the other players we come across within the game.
PvP has fared much worse and I think that, while applying the general principals and format of Halo PvP to Destiny has not been a failure by any stretch of the imagination, it has also led to many of the biggest problems that Destiny has faced over the last four years in both PvP and PvE. Those issues include:
It is incredibly anti-social as we are continuously matched with new groups of players who we never speak to and most of the time don’t see for more than one or two games (if they don’t leave the queue between games and the game doesn’t break up the teams)
SBMM vs CBMM the eternal debate
Solo player (and small fireteam) vs full fireteams
The struggle to maintain healthy player populations to be able to implement the best overall matchmaking experience for everyone
Playlists instead of playing the game modes we want to play
A PvP experience that the devs have tried to condense populations through aforementioned playlists, but has then been re-fragmented by separate Quickplay and Competitive modes, as well special PvP events like Iron Banner and Trials, plus the addition of Gambit, weekly game modes and Crucible Labs.
Difficulty maintaining healthy weapon, class, ability and super balance in both PvP and PvE as things are deemed to be “too good” and/or “overused” by the community in single game modes/playlists, but would suffer performance issues in other PvP modes and PvE if modified.
Having a more difficult time overall with the balance of PvP vs PvE
All of these things are known issues and nothing I’m writing here is anything I haven’t written before, but with teams inside Bungie’s studio now confirmed working on the next iteration of the game, I think it’s one of the biggest issues that need to be looked at in the continued growth and development of the game and franchise. I know there are constant discussions within the studio on these things and the goal is always to make the game the best that it can be and the matchmaking experience as a whole and particularly in PvP can be better and I think the solution is the same today as it could have been for raid matchmaking from the beginning.
I believe Destiny would be a much better game with a Perfect Dark Zero/ Gear of War approach to matchmaking for some of PvP and PvE endgame and the basic systems and functionality are already built into the game through private matches and Guided Games.
To start with PvE first, this is the same thing I’ve advocated for over the last 3 ½ years and while Guided Games is a limited approximation, it hasn’t really panned out as an easy way to meet up with and group with random players to run raids. I understand why the clan limitations are in place as well as limiting it to only one random joining, but I think there are ways to do a full lobby system and still allow for protections for players and teams. The other benefit to going with a full lobby system for endgame PvE matchmaking is that it could be used to allow for larger groups of friends as well as friends + matchmade teammates for endgame activities like EP, Blind Well, etc. Future activities of that nature could easily be set up to be in zones specifically designed for a group lobby.
What has changed in my opinion in how this could work over the last year in particular is in how PvP really should be integrated into this system to a degree as well. To that end I firmly believe that the base Destiny PvP experience should be a hosted lobby system and Quickplay should be removed completely. The framework already exists to do this with private matches. The only thing missing is the ability to fill out those hosted lobbies through matchmaking. I believe the benefits of doing this would be immediately felt across the entire game.
It would eliminate having to play random game modes and allow players to play exactly what they want and love
It would allow players to choose what maps they want to play as well as set scoring and rules. This system could also be set up to allow for curated weapon loadout rules (thus letting players decide to prohibit weapons deemed “op” or “unfair” for particular modes or maps rather than petitioning for them to be nerfed or altered.
It would make the game infinitely more social and allow more opportunities for players to communicate and develop bonds and friendships in healthy ways. One of the big issues with the way PvP is currently setup is that we are always opted-out of chat by default. The reasons for this are quite obvious given the history of toxicity and abuse in games that have open chats, however it’s much more difficult to constantly be toxic when joining lobbies that stay together game-to-game with a single host, as toxic behavior would just get players removed from the lobby.
The other big takeaway from that is that it would be a set lobby going game-to-game together and as such would offer a much better chance for social interaction. This took place in both PDZ and Gears when I played as even players who would join and not talk would almost always end up speaking after playing within the group enough games to get comfortable with the personalities within the lobby.
If we want gaming and gamers to be better to each other and to enjoy these things we love without all the negativity and hatred, it has to start with having tools in place to actually build positive relationships and this has been in the past I believe would be within Destiny a wonderful way to achieve that.
It eliminates the SBMM/CBMM debate as lobby hosts would have oversight over team composition and rules as well as the fact that a group all playing together in a hosted lobby would be much less likely to accuse each other of nefarious behavior. A healthy mix of Region/Connection/Skill could be built into the matchmaking for the lobbies and if players were lagging, either on the host/party end or those joining, players would have the ability to leave or hosts remove lagging players and allowing each to look for a better match to stick with.
It also eliminates the solo vs fireteam issues as in a hosted lobby system players tend to actually be communicating (including the randoms who join) and hosts have the option to require mics as well as to restructure team compositions match-to-match if it’s lopsided one way or the other.
It instantly eliminates issues for player populations outside of competitive play.
It allows a format where new game modes can be added to the lobby choices for both casual play and also testing for competitive modes without requiring a separate weekly mode like we currently have for doubles, Breakthrough, Survival and Rumble, as well as Crucible Labs. It could all be rolled into the hosted lobby system allowing play and testing without splitting populations.
It frees up the developers to refine the current PvP matchmaking system for ranked competitive and tournament play like Iron Banner, Gambit and Trials.
The possibilities here in particular are really interesting in a myriad of ways, not the least of which is in limiting the current PvP matchmaking format to those modes, I’m curious if it could potentially be within a more reasonable cost range to allow for dedicated servers or at least a more secure ecosystem for Comp, Trials, Gambit and IB, while running the current hybrid p2p system for the hosted lobbies that would replace QP.
It would also allow the devs to incentivize those modes more and make them the place players need to go to play for XP and rewards (thus giving everyone reason to actually want to participate there still), while also having the hosted lobby system where players could learn modes, maps and weapons as well as find friends and teammates in a more laid back environment (which D2’s ultra sweatfest QP currently is not) to then go into Competitive play with.
It would not only allow Trials to be the premier endgame PvP activity it was intended to be, Iron Banner could also be the true endgame tournament it was envisioned as.
It would also allow the developers greater freedom to curate those experiences as well by possibly enacting loadout restrictions and even making adjustments to balance specifically within comp/tournament play.
It could potentially take a huge load off of the PvE vs PvP balancing dilemmas through the aforementioned benefits, but it also could be a place where players who meet and group to play PvP could also then go to raids and EP type PvE events and vice versa.
It’s funny that as I have been contemplating writing this all up the last few days, I was actually recording a feedback video yesterday on my day-to-day Destiny experience lately and I met a player who had just bought Destiny for the first time the day before and it was interesting hearing his experience as someone who’d never played before.
The fact that we actually met and started talking in-game was pretty remarkable in and of itself. I barely ever stream, but I was streaming my play and recording my commentary on the game and as I did so, I got a viewer and they stuck around. I’d never had that, so after I finished my thoughts for the video, I decided to play some PvP and shoot people with Telesto. Then as I’m playing and talking I started hearing an echo. It took me probably 2 minutes to realize what was going on and that someone else was in the game chat. I’m always opted-in and it’s only the second time in D2 I’ve come across another player with a mic (happened about 5 times in 3 years of D1).
So I said hello and we started talking and partied up and he’d just got D2 the day before and had never played D1. I told him how shocked I was to hear another player and how rare it is and asked him what his experience had been with chat. Turns out I was the first person he’d spoken to in the game and he’d had the same experience I did 4 years ago when I logged in on launch day and went around saying hello to everyone in the Tower, on patrol and in the Crucible and wondering why no one had mics.
The last Bungie game he’d played was Halo 3 and he’d been surprised there was no chat in the Farm and on patrol, but had expected to have the lobby full of colorful chat in Crucible that was Halo 3 PvP and he said that the lack of communication is off-putting as a new player, particularly when he’d been trying to do PvE content that seemed to him to be more team-oriented like public events, etc.
The point of that is Destiny is a social game that isn’t the best at allowing us to be social. It’s a game that thrives on and works best when we are playing with other player and in fireteams and yet it doesn’t give any tools to encourage or enable forming the connections to build them. So whether a system like I’ve described or something completely different, I think that the game needs to evolve and grow in these areas and that it will ultimately lead to a better experience for players of all levels and investment as well as for the developers themselves, Bungie and the Destiny franchise.
Thank you.

Additional Information –––-
SMOKING HABIT: never / sometimes / frequently / to excess DRUGS: never / sometimes / frequently / to excess ALCOHOL: never / sometimes / frequently / to excess
I’m open to try most things, RP-wise, within reason. Overly dark or violent themes will likely need to be okayed first, but I’m willing to give a lot of more lore-bendy ideas and plots a shot if you can sell me on it! I am also open for RP/chatting both in-game proper as well as over Discord (Hamelin#0069).

Gojirafell ––––
Is actually an IC thing, and a potential Plot Hook in its own right if folks want to interact with (or utilize) such a fantastical element. However, it is not something I normally will bring attention to since it could (and probably does) easily fall outside people’s comfort zones with regard to lore-bending and such. As such, Gojirafell is technically only A Thing in situations where people are okay with it being A Thing. Otherwise, it will rarely - if ever - be directly alluded to or even referenced.
Not to mention there’s a pair of horribly in debt alchemists who may be overheard muttering of a lost dream of creating giant soldiers. Otherwise, we could probably manage to manufacture a scene where the secret slips - either just slip of the tongue or witnessing the Gojirafell himself!
