Inspired
I had a pre-PA shadow this week who is in a bit of a lull with the whole "process" of applying to PA school, taking classes, etc. They shadowed me and were so thankful for the opportunity - that they can see where they can be later and know that the work is worth it.
The P R O C E S S sucks so bad. I recall feeling very stressed, alone, anxious, etc. When I had positive shadowing or medical experiences at work, it was a reminder of WHY I was working so hard.
So, to all you pre-PA people out there wondering if it is worth it or if the process will end, it will. One day it will end with [your name here] PA-C. I promise.

Exploring Other Pre-Health Tracks
While I’m currently undecided on a pre-health path (but leaning towards medicine), another career path I am interested in is becoming a Physician Assistant. After graduating from college, aspiring Physician assistants go on to PA school.
To get into PA school, undergraduates need to acquire at least 1000 clinical hours. However, to be a qualified candidate, undergraduates should get around 5000 clinical hours. After completing PA school, PA’s must pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). PA’s need this certification along with their license in order to legally practice within their state. Also, PA’s must participate in continued medical educational (CME) activities to refresh their certification and stay qualified.
PA’s have a lot of responsibilities: patient care, surgical assistance, treatment planning, medical record documentation, patient education, collaborative care, follow-up mentoring, health promotion and disease prevention, and reach and administration. I would be interested in a PA track because it offers a better work-life balance than medicine, and I would be able to specialize in multiple fields without committing the rest of my career solely to one. I’m anticipating the balance between having a family and a work life is going to be really hard, so being able to have more flexibility as a PA sounds appealing to me.

How long does it take to become a physician's assistant?
Tumblr media
A career in health as a physician's assistant is a rewarding and challenging profession. It requires a certain level of dedication and commitment, as well as a desire to help others. The length of time it takes to become a physician's assistant depends on several factors, including the educational path chosen and the amount of experience gained.
To become a physician's assistant, one must first earn a bachelor's degree in a health-related field such as biology, nursing, or pre-medical studies. This typically takes four years to complete, although some programs may offer accelerated options that can be completed in three years. It is important to note that certain prerequisite courses must be completed before entering a physician's assistant program, such as anatomy, physiology, and microbiology.
After earning a bachelor's degree, one must then apply to and complete a physician's assistant program, which typically takes two years to complete. These programs are offered at universities, medical schools, and community colleges and include both classroom instruction and clinical rotations. During this time, students learn about medical ethics, patient care, pharmacology, and medical procedures.
Once the physician's assistant program is completed, graduates must pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to become licensed. This exam tests the knowledge and skills necessary to practice as a physician's assistant and is administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
In summary, becoming a physician's assistant can take anywhere from six to seven years, depending on the educational path chosen. It requires a bachelor's degree in a health-related field, completion of a physician's assistant program, and passing the PANCE exam. However, some students may choose to take additional courses or gain experience before applying to a physician's assistant program, which can lengthen the overall time to become a licensed physician's assistant.

With classes finished for the semester, the view of Polk Place from the front porch of Wilson is beginning to feel very quiet.
To reminisce about all the crowds and activities this year and in all the previous years, here are some of shots of Polk Place in 1926, 1971 and 1936.

Happy for the kids & community thanks to my Dad Anthony Fat Pellegrini . But because who's running it , specifically Linda & Fatty, & who ever supports them get 0 respect , I don't care how many lights they put up. They went against our own fathers word & who further disrespected my mother Camille Chic Pellegrini  by making disgusting statements that she was not a significant part of her husband's orginization , which is the furthest from the truth . My dad said without my mother their would be no NCCPA , it  will always be tainted . Shame on them. Your forgiven, but it's not forgotten, and I will continue to do all I can to make sure someone else runs it for the community . Because if my dad knew what they did with donated money they spent to hurt my mother he would be livid , and tell them your all done . Pathetic https://www.instagram.com/p/B6Qmwn-BtT3/?igshid=wrsmgtlhvyg1

Sick
I was supposed to work yesterday and today but I had to call in sick for both. I truly believe my body broke over the weekend and was just like "hey, you're burnt out STOP."
This spring has been incredibly busy for me, particularly with my volunteer/fundraising gig and I have just been go go go for 4 months straight. Literally the second we finished putting on a big event we've been planning since December, I woke up with a sore throat and all the fucking mucus.
So, here I am. Recovering. I feel much better after just sleeping a lot and resting. I am trying not to feel guilty about calling in. I very rarely call in sick (like, maybe once a year if that) and I take pride in being reliable. But my body was like "nope" and sometimes you just need to listen.
In other news, I need to find a way to spend some CME money and get some credits. I just renewed my license in December but basically haven't logged or done anything since. That NCCPA credit shit will catch up with you if you're not careful. The SCCM 2025 congress is in Orlando and I low key want to book that and stick around to go to Disney World. :-D
I will be returning to my PA school this summer to lecture again. I think it's pretty neat that I can do this. Also just fucking weird to think I have been in practice over 5 years.

It takes the state of Wisconsin 5 weeks to let me know they received my medical license application, with a note that it will take 3 weeks to even be reviewed and can't let me know if they've gotten my information from Trine or NCCPA that I also sent 5 weeks ago.
Oh but you know they can cash that check no problem.
