So, I may have sent this before, I'm not certain, and I apologize if so. Basically as an casual Namor enjoyer, one idea I had regarding him and Sue, is that the reason behind him still being ocasionally depicted as into her, is because he felt guilty after Dorma's death, feeling bad about ignoring her affection back in the day while going after Sue, so he's been trying to convince himself his thing with her was something far more meaningful and deeper than it was and/or that after all the other women he loved and lost, he's subconciously afraid of genuinely getting close to someone like that again, so he hits on the one woman he admires, but knows would always reject him. Could something like that work?

Namor going after the "unattainable" invisible woman is something I have given considerable thought to over the years, and honestly you start to see a shift in Namor's character after the death of Marrina, and then the rejection by Carrie, where Namor isn't constantly chasing after love/romance, and I don't think your theory is unfounded so much as it's never really presented that way in the comics because every writer has Namor making an ass of himself for Sue in Fantastic Four comics. He is constantly written as a Man who was told No and can't accept it for an answer but writers literally just ignore the many times Namor has accepted Sue's choice and even tells Sue or Reed "I hope you will be happy/Treat her right" etc. so it's a disconnect between Canon and the Fanon that writers think is Canon bc they just slap the whole "reset Namor back to man who needs to woo Sue" whenever they are put on page together.

And it's not like Namor hasn't had other romances after Dorma (but before Marrina), in The Defenders (1972) #116 Namor is enjoying a night with Valkyrie swimming in the ocean, and when Valkyrie kisses him he breaks it off because he isn't over his love of Dorma.

The main issues with Namor/Dorma, or Dorma in general as a character is that she is a woman character being written in the 60s, 70s comic and she was not the focus of the comics, she was the leading lady of Sub-Mariner comics, the damsel in distress, the betrayer, the lover, the savior of Namor, etc. but we rarely got her own story that wasn't about/connected to Namor in some way, and she had basically been around the comics for a while that writers just said "well we can't have Dorma here, we can't have Namor married and happy, we want to send him to the surface, or have him be the third wheel in ReedSue for drama or whatever" so they pushed forward the wedding/death of Dorma for maximum Angst for Namor and set her up to be that one perfect true lost love that he will never get over. Which makes me angry because Dorma may not be a perfect character but she was interesting and she deserved better than to be used like that. Namor and Dorma don't have a whole lot of courtship on page because I guess writers thought wasn't interesting? I'm not sure, but it is clear that Namor did love Dorma deeply even if he was an idiot who didn't realize just how much Dorma meant to him until it was too late.

So headcanoning that Namor thinks of Sue as the "safe" option because he knows he can't have her and thus won't have his heart broken again is an interesting way of putting it but in all honestly if I just go by canon stuff it's not something that holds up, because even after Dorma, Betty, Marrina, and Carrie, we still have countless moments like Valkyrie, then we have that full on romance/break up with Abira in Namor: The First Mutant.

Honestly I feel kinda crazy sometimes when I try to talk about this subject because I want to imprint into people's brains that Namor being written in Fantastic Four comics is Not a good version of the character and if you really want to get into him then read his own comics or something like The Defenders where he is on even footing with other characters and not being used as a romance sub-plot device.

i do not like kitty and piotr together. claremont what were u doing... i also dont love mar-vell and carol even tho i like the legacy + original concept. also dont love spideypool but i havent read deadpool yet so i cant say more than that. i never liked matt + heather either. but if i had to pick ONE ship i really don't like and am never gonna fall for, it is without a doubt reed and medusa which u might think is insane but the subtext was there and i was very concerned.

I’m confused, why is Sue/Namor not allowed, yet you say “ship and let ship”? They’re not incest or pedo, are they?

Namor/Sue is not incest/pedo, but it is banned because I, the Mod, don't like Namor/Sue.

I feel very strongly Anti-NamorSue because of how badly it's affected fan perception of Namor since many people do not read the comics in full and take things out of context which leads others to believe Namor is defined by the Namor/Sue ship, but is actually just really bad Fanon Characterization, such as; Namor is a homewrecking cheater, Namor is a misogynist, Namor only cares about getting into Susan's pants, Namor is a rapist/has raped Susan, Namor is an aggressive sexual predator etc.

The Ship itself never paints Namor in a good light, and it's not about Namor, it's about Reed/Sue and Namor is the obstacle/antagonist most of the time, and as this is an event that's supposed to celebrate and explore the character and his world then I don't want the Namor/Sue ship as part of it's fanworks. (Platonic Namor & Susan is fine.)

There is plenty of Marvel canon AU's that explore Namor/Sue already if people want to read them or fanart made by artists if people want those as well. I don't care if people want to write/make art of that ship on their own blogs/accounts/whatever, it's up to them. However I simply don't want to deal with seeing or interacting with that ship. As the Mod I put a lot of energy and time into running this event, hosting the event, blog posts, prompts, Ao3 collection, wrangling the fanwork into lists, and providing support to fans, as well as creating my own prompts and commissioning fanworks, and I will not support a ship that has badly damaged the way people see Namor.

Or just utterly go for it and give us Namor+Doom! Shake the Earth and make the nations of the world quake! Better than NamorSue in👏 every 👏 way 👏

I will have it out this month hopefully, tomorrow Namor: Conquered Shores #2 comes out and it's supposed to have NamorSue content in it that I want to read over and think about to add to the post, but it just depends on my free time to be able to work on finishing it. spideytorch isn't a fantastic four ship it's a spidey ship and i hate twinks! i trusted my followers to not vote namorsue and to let it come dead last but they couldn't even do that but no way am i having some annoying brunette come and take the spotlight from actual ff characters no thank you! johnnywyatt endgame anyway.

The MCU is not going to be able to do the FF justice, they had 13 years to build a family dynamic with the Avengers and all I got is 'coworkers that barely tolerate each other'. They're not gonna do the FF any better
