what are the songs that remind you of lartis?

I've made in the past three posts and several asks about this same topic. Go to my search bar in the blog, type "My Lartis Playlist" and you'll find them. I classified the songs even by theme, namely Loss, Partnership and Love&Lust, to highlight some of the aspects I enjoy to be inspired about when writing particularly about this OTP.

The posts include links to the songs and extract of the lyrics. Should anyone of these not be working anymore, please be nice to tell me. I am not the only one doing this, my the way. I guess they used the same tags.

Finally, I've recently used some extracts of lyrics coming from songs that inspire me to write Lartis in my fanfic The Legacy, a more updated resource for inspiration. But these are more focused on the chapter's main plot.

Good search and I hope you enjoy them, though, imho, the choice of songs about an OTP always ends being something very personal, since not all of us likes the same music, or feels the same about certain song.

4) Killing Me- State of Mine

Why this song? Well, I’ve discovered this band recentely and... DAMN They are Hella good! Actually, “Killing me” is a personal favorite of mine from this band and... Fuck, the lyrics are so Lartis! Lara is the “queen of hearts” I imagine while Kurtis is the poor victim of her, succumbed by lust and love.. Just perfect <3

5) I Love The Way You Hate Me - Like a Storm

Why this song? Like a Storm always makes nice songs, even if for my tastes they are not as heavy as I’d love xD But they aren’t Disturbed c’mon xD Anyway... “I Love The Way You Hate Me” brings me back to the Louvre Chase and to the Airlock, before the Sanitarium. Because I think that Lara hates Kurtis in those moments, even thourgh I think she’s struggling with her feelings in that moment... And Kurtis simply loves the way she hates him...

I think I could make a short tribute to them with this song, It’s so Lartis in my opinion :3

6) Fallen Angel - Three Days Grace

Why this song? Okay, maybe it’s a little too fluffy this song but It’s perfect for them :D Call me crazy but for me is perfect,  It’s kinda of a fluffy song but It’s still heavy and wonderfull.

I can see it from Kurtis’s point of view... How he could “save” Lara? That to his eyes she’s a fallen angel? Try to listen to it, trying to listen to it from Kurtis’s eyes... I think it’s puuuurrrrfect

My Lartis playlist (III) - Love & Lust

Ok, so.... maybe it’s time to release the third part of my Lartis playlist. I’ve been doubting a little because looks like first part was very appreciated, when it comes to sadness and loss every TRAOD fan can relate; but truth be told second part arose less enthusiasm, maybe because the thing went more personal. I’m afraid it’s gonna happen more or less the same with this third part, but, anyway, here it goes. 

This time I focus on love and lust and, most often, in both. Because I understand the potential romance/relationship between Lara and Kurtis needs to have these two aspects. I don’t want their relationship based only in love, without the lust, because then it’d be some kind of Twilight romance, on a teen-ish relationship, and we’re talking of two adults who were already wishing to fuck each other in the airlock cutscene in TRAOD - and if you think otherwise, you’re lying.

But also, a relationship based just in lust is as much as unsatisfactory to me. I don’t like making everything about sex between them. Again, in TRAOD we can already sense they care for each other, which is touching in both cases considering they’re loners, merciless killers and they have just meet each other. So yeah, love must be present also in there.

All these songs remind me, more of less, this headcanon of mine, and have me inspired more than once to write more than one passage of my fanfics, or simply, were sounding while I was writing.

Nightwish - Come Cover Me (Wishmaster)

Nightwish was my first metal band and I’ve very fond memories of it. Unlike Epica and Within Temptation, their lyrics speak about lust and erotica more than often, but they’ve this tasteful mix with love I really enjoy in Lartis. Come Cover Me, a song as romantic as passionate, with erotic vibes, is probably the one which best represents what I mean.

Come cover me with you For the thrill ‘till you will take me in Come comfort me in you Young love must live twice only for us...

Damn, it’s perfect. Also the famous single Wish I Had An Angel will be perfect too, though this song is more lust and less love, honestly. The moans... and sighs... no comment.

Samael -  High Above (Reign Of Light)

I discovered Samael thanks to a friend and after seeing many Wacken live shows in YouTube, I fell totally in love with this band. It’s something different, some techno-metal or whatever the hell it’s called, it’s harsh, and rough, and intense, so it speaks a lot of of lust to me. 

Their albums Reign Of Light and Eternal are, simply, flawless. Other albums are harder to listen to me. Among all their songs, High Above is the most perfect to me. I can perfectly picture a sexual relationship in the rythms and vibes of this song, but again, the lyrics are so perfectly tasteful... a must to listen.

Mmmmm. Yesss. Smooth.

This song was sounding when I wrote Mr. Vance Renner, btw.

Nine Inch Nails - Closer (The Downward Spiral)

Ok, not my band, not my style either, but this one is... legendary. It was needed. It was compulsory. Closer - originally Closer To God, ha! - is one of the most erotic and sensous songs ever written. I remember it was an iconic song back in the good days of the Sani (the KTEB forum) so it had to be here.

This song, despite the crudeness of its lyrics - which normally are NOT my cup of tea, but in this case I will let them pass - fits perfectly my idea of the rough, intense sex I picture for my OTP. Also, please, the rythms of the song... that bass is absolutely insane. Not to mention Trent Reznor’s voice. That guy gets you pregnant with his voice.

Through every forest, above the trees Within my stomach, scraped off my knees I drink the honey inside your hive You are the reason I stay alive

And again, it’s not just about the fucking. There are feelings, very intense and passionate, behind this frenetic coitus, and I love that mix.

Qntal - Entre Moi Et Mon Ami (Tristan Und Isolde)

Then he drew himself to me,

And I did not draw back;

Three times at least he kissed me,

And I returned them back;

Now that did not tire me.

Then how glad we should have been

Had that night lasted a century...

I was doubting if including this song, because it’s totally different from the previous ones, but... as I sometimes used it to inspire myself for writing, in the end I’ll include it. Entre Moi Et Mon Ami (”Me And My Friend”) is a Middle-Ages French poem written in Occitaine language which speaks about two lovers meeting secretly to enjoy their love. As it’s a very old romance, composed in a time where it was forbidden to speak openly about sex, it’s hard to find the erotic vibes on it, looking more like just a romance poem of two people kissing in a meadow. 

But if you know something about trobadours and minstrels, you’ll realize these songs spoke also about sex, but in a very veiled way. Qntal, nowadays reborn as Helium Vola, is an amazing, fascinating “band” who makes music out of Middle-Ages textes (Carmina Burana, Omnis Mundi Creatura, etc...) with a tasteful combination of electronics and operistic voices. It’s called electro-medieval for a reason, and I simply love it. Also, they went far, of course, than the original trobadour who might have written this poem, because the sighs and athmosphere of the song evokes, again, more just than mere kissing.

I love this uncertainty, this... smooth je ne sais quoi. And gosh I know this look totally out of style in this post, but I love this kind of music too. It’s more than music. It’s experimental.

Anyway, I will stop here. I think I bored you enough with this issue. Of course there are more songs that will perfectly fit here but... let’s leave this at this point. I hope you can enjoy some of them at least.

My Lartis playlist (II) - Partnership

Hi pals! Welcome to the second part of my Lartis playlist. :) This time I’m not just bringing rock&metal - which will be always my favourites - but also some other styles I sometimes like to listen.

This time my selection is more focused on a theme we could name just partnership...meaning Lara and Kurtis make a fantastic team, as partners, as cooperating and being amazingly compatible and well-synchronized. In one word: soulmates.

They are not necessarily speaking about love... they speak more about loyalty, trust and friendship. Over all, loyalty. For if there’s one thing we got plenty confirmed in TRAOD, is that they trusted each other as they never had done with anyone before, and it happened in the blink of an eye. They recognized each other as if having spent a life together, so that’s why they made a terrific team immediately.

All these songs, in one way or another, remind me of this feeling.

Two Steps From Hell - Dangerous (Vanquish)

I discovered Two Steps From Hell - a musical project of Thomas Bergersen and Nick Phoenix focused on music for trailers and soundtracks - a year ago and, though not being my particularly style of music, they immediately caught me for its creativity and beauty. A lot of their tracks have inspired my Muse more than once.

Most of their music is just instrumental, but there are some lyrics songs. Dangerous is relatively recent, from their last album Vanquish, and I loved it not just because it’s beautiful - the choirs, damn, again - but damn... the lyrics. The freaking lyrics.

Like the break of the dawn and sun We will rise before you You and I have seen the end Now it's time to show you Your little lies are oil on my skin Your little lies, the oldest of sins You're an angel looking into my eyes I can see you, travel back into time Still they say you hide a devil inside You are dangerous So am I

I love the idea of Lara and Kurtis assessing each other and recognizing each other as dangerous, but potential partners. Like two old souls who were predestined to each other. This song reminds me a lot that feeling... that every step they took in life just lead one to another without no way back. He was meant to her as she was meant to him. So you hear the fire burn? It will call your name Steady rising before the end For the whole tomorrow

And the idea of they live every day as if their last day on Earth, as if there’s no tomorrow. Also the climax at the last part of the song help me to visualize it’s just fate they were meant to we together, despite all the trials and hardships. It speaks to me in a more deep way, if I think of my fanfics...

Epica - Burn To A Cinder (Design Your Universe)

Well, you already know Epica is one of my fav metal bands EVER. Their songs speak more about the good fight, loyalty and self-superation than of love and lust. Epica is about epicness, but also about hope and endurance, to fight to win, to get a better future. 

There are so many songs in Epica and Within Temptation who remind me of this feeling of absolute loyalty and self-sacrifice for each other, but I decided to pick Burn To A Cinder. This song represents for me the reality of living in constant danger and be about to die at any time, but still, the willingness to fight for each other and die for each other if necessary, with no regrets.

I'll never let them stake you down I'll fight to find a way out there It must be hard I'll never let them break you now Keep holding on 

And the frustration if they get separated and left alone in their ordeal...

Why can’t I bleed with you?

Within Temptation - Dark Wings (Mother Earth)

Ok, Within Temptation was compulsory again. This band is pretty much the same as Epica when it comes to feelings and realities transmited by their lyrics, tho the style and the voice is totally different. Sweeter and softer.

I remember Dark Wings was my fav song of their first album Mother Earth, after the amazing Ice Queen of course. It’s the beginning of the band and the music and voice are still undeveloped, a little simple, but the lyrics.... daaaaamn the lyrics are so Lartis.

I like to imagine this song also a dialogue between Lara and Kurtis - again, not a real dialogue, they would not say such things to each other, but rather a exchange of inner feelings, ideas, more than actual words.

I think there’s no need to explain why I find each part suitable for each character to recite.

KURTIS:

Jacob Groth - Would Anybody Die For Me? (The Girl Who Played With Fire)

Change of style again. This was a song from The Girl Who Played With Fire, the second movie of the amazing trilogy Millennium, after Stieg Larsson’s books featuring one unforgettable character, Lisbeth Salander. 

I loved the song from the first, it’s immensely beautiful. Everything is in the progression. And again, it reminded me of Lartis, particularly the sense of them being soulmates and predestined to each other. Rather, this song would depict how they felt before finding each other: Lara, dead inside after the accident in Egypt, lost, with nothing to make her go on but revenge; Kurtis, pretty much the same. Absolutely lost. Absolutey lonely. Left astray to the deepest despair.

Hear me... hear me now...

My Lartis playlist (I) - Loss

After seeing many of you my dear friends are starting to do a Lartis playlist, I have told myself, Why not? and decided to show mine too. It’s gonna be a little long and... well, just not to be a dump of several songs with several musical styles you probably won’t share, I’m gonna try, too, to deliver some explanation on why these songs remind me of Lartis, even if specifically the music style doesn’t suit them as characters. I take that risk.

I thought also to gather the songs in different themes, so they can make sense among my choices. For example, this first part will be centered in Loss. It’s gonna be sad, I warn.

Why loss? Because we’ve lost this OTP. The TRAOD sequel was cancelled, and we never got to see this pairing fulfilled as it was gonna happen no doubt, as confirmed by the TRAOD dynamic and the developers themselves. 

So this first pack of songs are songs which also speak of loss. They’re not gonna be officially canon like, never, even if they are already canon for us because we know what’s gonna be planned for them. Lara has lost Kurtis and Kurtis has lost Lara, and both are lost to us TRAOD fans and Lartis shippers. So these songs speak about of this loss, that’s why they’re so appealing to me

Anyway, let’s go. In all these songs the TRAOD ending vibes are impossible to avoid.

Ayreon - Comatose (01011001)

I’ve always imagined this song as a dialogue between Lara and Kurtis, not a real dialogue but rather an exchange of inner voices, because they would never say such things one to another, according to my headcanon.

Wake me up before I die, hold me close As I gaze upon the sky, comatose No reason to survive, I suppose Wake us up before we die..

Still I feel this song would particularly match with the feeling of Kurtis being mortally wounded, slowly dying, even comatose, and finding a reason to live and endure. Which would be Lara.

Epica - In All Conscience (The Quantum Enigma)

Epica has been one of my fav metal bands for years, and has a lot of songs that remind me of Lartis, but this specially tells about loss. The meaning for Lartis is the same, Lara has lost Kurtis and Kurtis has lost Lara. Still, as Epica is a very positive band and their lyrics always have room for hope and happiness, so this song leaves an open door to be reunited again some day, though.

In my heart you’re still here It’s the bond that we share I can feel you’re around everywhere Even though you are gone Our spirit is strong I’ve felt you around all along… I’ll see you somewhere again, away from all insanity We can’t beat injustice, now and for all I’ll see you somewhere again, away from humanity We can’t beat unfairness now on our own…

Within Temptation - Somewhere (The Silent Force)

Well, this band, like Nightwish and Epica, it’s been with me since my first steps into rock/metal music. This song is also very famous and I’m sure it’s not the first time it’s proposed for Lartis.

Leaves less room for hope but it’s sweeter and softer than Epica. It’s WT style, after all. The song I find it fits the most to the situation we’re left in after TRAOD’s ending.

That’s it. I think it’s enough. If there are other songs related with loss that at any point reminded me of Lartis, I don’t remember them right now, but in any case it’s not like I should do a neverending list... :) As you can see, rock and metal are my fav style of music, tho I also listen to other songs!

Fanfiction OST - The Golden Seal

OST for my fanfics? Hell yeah!

Ok so... yesterday while chatting with @luluvonv about giving music to fanfiction, or which music inspired me to write fanfiction, or which music I’d put if my fanfics were made into movies/animated series (yeah, dreaming is for free), I decided to make a post with the songs that we find suitable for my fanfics, or at least, for some sequences of them.

I must say most of them are gonna be from OST soundtracks/Two Steps From Hell because they are the music I usually listen to when I write, apart from the Lartis playlist I wrote some time ago. So I will be happy to hear your suggestions if you have one. These are very personal.

Of course this is just for fun. And I also encourage everyone who writes/reads fanfiction to do the same because I’m sure as hell everyone would love to listen author/reader’s suggestion to this, so feel free to go with the flow or just enjoy it!

The Golden Seal

Moving to Al-Fayoum

There is a sequence in this fanfics between the chapters The Amazon’s story and The Egyptologist, when Lara and Kurtis discover The Golden Seal changes and points a new location in their quest: Egypt, and particularly, the oasis of Al-Fayoum, where a Lux Veritatis fortress is buried under the sand. There Lara convinces her friend Jean Yves to organize a caravan and a dig team to uncover the ruins. 

I always imagined El Dorado, by Two Steps From Hell, would be an amazing track to listen since the moment Lara finds out the new location to the moment where she, Kurtis and Jean Yves team arrives to the oasis. 

1:33 Just imagine the line of trucks and jeeps advacing through the desert, crossing the sand, to the rythm of this music. And Kurtis motorbike, with Lara clinging to his waist, leading the line. Hey, why not.

Hey, I’m happing imagining it. In fact this sound could serve for any tomb raiding quest.

Passing Through The Booby Traps

I don’t dwell too much in these kind of descriptions because they bore me to hell, but i barely make reference to Lara sorting the booby traps that protect the Lux Veritatis stronghold in Al-Fayoum, as I said, barely mentioned in The Amazon’s Tomb.

I always though the instrumental piece Arabesque by Nightwish would be the perfect soundtrack for an amazing, graceful sequence of Lara avoiding swinging blades, spikes traps, booby traps in general, and making a final sprint to slide through a closing gap at the end of a deadly alley of traps.

I find specially good the title Arabesque because Lara Croft has a ballerina training and why not, all her gimmastics and movements are graceful, like dancing, like moving through the water, and not like a macho.

Just imagine her passing through spikes and blades with that gracefulness, an inch away from death... damn I miss her so much.

There is an Imaginaerum movie version of Arabesque, named a Crackling Sphere, which is even more epic that the original song. I recommend you to listen to it too because sometimes I think it’s more fitting to the sequence of the fanfic ;) Because the ending geeeeez so epic!

GODDAMMIT NIGHTWISH WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD

Introducing Meteora

The mystic valley of Meteora, in Greece, is the last location of the fanfic. I’ve always thought it would be beautiful to put some music to the sequence between Kurtis and Lara find out they have to go to Meteora,are intercepted by Nikos Kavafis and they leads them to the place in helicopter, then they witness for the first time the wide and beautiful valley with rock formations an the Orthodox monasterious on the top of them.

Merchant Prince by Two Steps from Hell would be my chosen music. And I’m even sure you can figure out in whch second the valley opens to your eyes ;)

Karel Defeated - The Kiss

Last fight of the fanfic is, of course, Kurtis battling and defeating Karel - this is not even a spoiler, every TRAOD sequel has it, even the official notes the game team had planned :))))

There is an impasse where we are not sure if Kurtis has died too because he has fallen to the void together with Karel, but he survives because of his Lux Verittis powers and, over all, because Lara has chosen him in The True Option choice before the Oracle. 

I always thought Victory would be a nice music to illustrate the moment where lara finds out he’s alive, Karel has been definitely defeated, they finally kiss and ROLL CREDITS!!!  (I would love the idea of doing this fanfic as an animated series with chapters... there, I said it).

The chosen music is Victory. How not! Also, no romantic music for a kiss? Not this kiss. This kiss is a kiss of victory. This is a kiss with dirt, with blood and with passion. This is a kiss to savour the victory so bite her devoure her. So epic music for this kiss. YAS!

Yeah, again Two Steps From Hell. What can I do. I mostly listen to them when I write fanfiction.

There was a time I had more ideas, but I confess I forgot them. Maybe they weren’t that great if I can’t remember them. Also I’m aware this music sounds far more epic than the fanfic itself - but well, adaptation to screen could amend this, I guess.

Ok I wasted enough time of your life with this now. Maybe I can go no with the rest of my fics if you’d like to know.... and also if you’re a reader, know my fics and want to give your two cents on this... I’d be much more than honoured to know them :D

1) Belle - Notre Dame de Paris [French Version]

Why this song? Notre Dame de Paris is my favorite musical ever and the songs gave me shivers, but I’m more at heart the Italian version. Why the french version and why I relate it to Lartis? The French version is very passionate and I love it. I relate it to Lartis because I can Imagine Kurtis being struggled by his attraction to Lara.

I can see Kurtis being Frollo, Quasimodo and Febo at the same time and in the meanwhile Lara is Esmeralda.

Why this song? This song is so Lartis in my opinion! Everytime I listen to it I feel like that are Lara and Kurtis that are singing it, It’s strong.. Wonderfull..

3) Serpentine - Disturbed

Why this song? If I remember correctly, David Draiman said that the song Serpentine was about a woman with a poisonus heart and personality if I remember correctly, sorry my memory sucks xD

Everytime I listen to this song I relate to Lartis, because Lara’s heart is somewhat serpentine, and I imagine Kurtis being totally in love with her but her heart is poisonus and she’s trying to reject it.

I know! That’s strange and somewhat fucked up xD
