Randoku "The Ritual Killer"
Tumblr media
In the film "The Ritual Killer" the villain Randoku is a complex and disturbing character who plays a central role in the plot. Portrayed by Vernon Davis, Randoku embodies the darkness of human nature and the depths of depravity that some individuals can sink to. His motivations stem from a twisted desire for power and control. As a merciless serial contract killer, Randoku's progression of violence shows a gradual numbing to the suffering he causes. His growing obsession with power pushes him to commit increasingly horrifying deeds without feeling any guilt².
The antagonist, Randoku, is ostensibly the titular killer. He is a trained Sangoma employed by an evil force looking to harvest life energy. Randoku's emergence is marked by a disturbing progression of violence, reflecting his obsession with power and his willingness to commit gruesome acts³.
Randoku's actions are tied to African rituals, and he harvests organs from his victims to create potions that enhance prosperity and growth for his clients. His character is shrouded in mystery and malevolence, making him a formidable adversary for Detective Lucas Boyd and African scholar Dr. Mackles as they seek to unravel the ritualistic murders in Clinton, Mississippi¹. The film leaves us with several ambiguous developments, including Dr. Mackles's sudden disappearance and Randoku's fate.
"The Ritual Killer" was initially called "Muti.", Muti is an African practice used by warriors and elites who want to become more powerful. Dr. Mackles talks about its history in the movie. He describes it as a tortuous ceremonial process in which body parts are taken from suffering victims — the more screams, the more powerful the magic — and consumed by people looking to enhance themselves in some way. Consuming someone's eyes, he explains, will provide foresight and clarity, hence Boyd's actions at the end of the film.

I hope the stars were watching. I hope they saw it: the moment their perfect reflections turned warped and ruined, churned to chaos by the touch of a single human hand. / To know something truly deeply, you must know it with your head, hand, and heart.

instead of doing many other productive things, i've found myself wasting away with the sisyphean task of updating my ocs references. tbh around the last two i've started to run out of gas but i gotta get these done and the lack of proper turnarounds isn't actually really affecting the amount of information given
