does anyone know if we have the "parrels between tal and xiv" today. we do?? damn. gonna cry in a corner
anyway. thinking so hard about how xiv and tal.. tal has a loving mom, lived at a farm probably very close to a warzone, and likely was around a ton of different people, even if most of those people died. xiv had a neglectful father, lived in a tower closed off from civilization, and probably didn't know anyone except their father. (i personally hc that xiv was occasionally allowed to get out under supervision from their father to go to the nearby town, but. story for another time). tal grew up with people, and xiv grew up without.
and. man that has some evil interaction ideas? imagine xiv hearing tal talk about how much he loved his mama and all the different foods she'd make him and it just hammering in the fact that xiv's papa wasn't a good man. xiv envying tal because yeah. he mightve been surronded by bloodshed. but at least he had his momma. xiv had a Father.
but what about tal's side of things. Tal realizing xiv not-so-subtly grimacing at his stories about his mom and family. tal hearing xiv passing off stories of their "papa" abusing them and pretending like its fine.
Tal's blood boiling when he finds out what xiv's father did to them. He gets so goddamn mad and nearly goes into a rage because who the hell does that man think he is. he's gonna rip him to shreads when he sees him. how could he do that to someone so genuine as xiv??? how oculd he do that to his friend, nay, his sibling?? oooh it just pisses him off. when he gets back to his momma he's gonna ask her to cook her famous curry and he's gonna have xiv eat it because they deserve it. tal makes sure to hug xiv extra tight, give them extra food at mealtime, because he never wants them to feel like they did back when their father was around.
anyway anyone else having a normal o💥

Artist: C-Klip
Album: Memento Mori
Release Date: 16 February 2024
Tumblr media
This publication has been familiar with the musical stylings of rapper C-Klip for several years now having gist discovered him while writing reviews for the Vision Glory Mixtapes: HD 1-3. It was not until the publication of review of Squalee 2x new album that Klip aka Cory Law reached out and had me listen to a full project. Privy to it the day of release, “Memento Mori”, came straight to me and not having to seek it out helped to expedite the process of listening.
Memento Mori is Latin for “Remember you will Die”. I first encountered this eerie message while reading the “Lemony Snicket” books. The phrase is not meant to strike fear, it is likely a reminder to do what one can with their limited time on earth. “Memento Mori” by C-Klip finds our artist both rapping and singing. The latter of which to be honest is the standout on the EP.
The EP begins with a Hitchcockesque intro with a heavy cymbal programmed into the background. The rapping on “Intro” is extremely personal and reminds me of the personal turn the Insane Clown Posse music took circa 5th Joker Card. Rapping in doublets Klip tells the story of a slow decline of a woman into drugs. While the woman is never identified it is clear that this person has had a significant effect on the songwriter.
On “Red Dress” an absolutely singable song that tells the story of falling in love but not only love, obsession. The production is stellar and has spoken word weaved into the song flawlessly.
The EP is split evenly by the arrival of a cryptic spoken word interlude that finds Klip rapping about his immortal soul in that rhythmic way I know him to. In the song Klip contemplates the two most known choices Heaven or Hell. Klip claims to have sold his soul. The reference to himself in the third person makes the warning Klip seeks to impart just that much more chilling to the listener.
The next song “Crash 2” is a reworking of a song to be found on the album of collaboration partner Squalee2x. The beat is the same. Guitar driven, snare-backed and VERY cryptic. It opens with a verse from Klip and Squalee jumps on the track like he lives there to provide the same verse from his own album. The line “I put them first they put me last I think I’m about to crash again” is extra relatable and singable.
“Worst/Best” has Klip singing finally. This song in the opinion of this publication is radio ready as it screams out to the teenage/ young adult demographic and what they listen to now. Self-deprecating breakup music. This song is a DEFINITE highlight of the EP.
“Dior Cypher 2024” is borrowed again from the Squalee album aforementioned and goes hard as fuck. The song is a cypher-style one -after-another verse kick. Everyone on the track (C-Klip, Squalee 2x, Prince Cash, EgoDeth, and Montana 2x. T his publication suggests you listen to this cypher 3-4x. The Easter Eggs are plentiful in the rather simple sounding verses.
The EP ends with an outro that begins again with the spooky spoken word of the unrecognized voice that permeates the tape. Klip starts a warbling heavily-tuned verse that pretty much sticks to the same subject matter. The length of the album typically helps listenability. This EP is VERY short.
“Memento Mori” is a well-thought out and extremely heartfelt EP. It deals with issues of drug use, mental illness, the effects of both on children, sadness, life, death, and the destiny of one’s immortal soul. C-Klip or his producer balance the spoken word with rapping/singing beautifully. The mixing is tight and Klip tends to annunciate quite well which is a big deal to the old heads. I think Klip in future projects should very the pace and cadence of his rapped flow in an attempt to break up monotony. The beats are slow and all play to Klip’s strengths. On future projects I wanna see him leave his comfort zone. “Memento Mori” is exciting and well-written and produced. This publication definitely looks forward to more from C-Klip. Hopefully soon. 💯💯💯
