hiii Tumblr,
Here's some pieces done by Kat Flint, a singer-songwriter and print maker.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love her art style, the characters are so expressive and the details in these prints are insane. The patterns in the people and animals depicting scenes in them is such an interesting concept. The use of colour in the first two images to highlight the protagonists of their respective stories compared to the dark antagonists. She uses these prints as a form of storytelling. Her prints are amazing and she posts them, and her process, on instagram.

Ayo Tumblr,
Here are some lino prints I found on Pinterest that I like.
Tumblr media
This piece posted by Pinterest user hvanmunching is of a cat laying on some cushions. I love the use of multiple colours. The designs on the cushions are so lovely and detailed and the use of white space for the cat's fur is well done.
Tumblr media
I also love this print done by Jezze Prints (website linked at end) on Pinterest. I love how it's printed on an encyclopedia page instead of card. The leaves are so nice to look at with the patterns and blocked out ones. The flowers look gorgeous. I said for the last piece that I liked the use of multiple colours but I think the simple black ink works well for this simplistic piece.

Print Making
Hello Tumblr,
Toady I went into the print room without realising there's no print people there, atleast not when I arrived. I was hoping to get my print done early cause I had to leave to go home today.
I decided to instead draw up my bear print on Procreate and stamp it onto my phone print digitally to show what I was hoping to do today.
I know this isn't exactly print making since I did it on my iPad but this is just to show what my finished piece would've looked like.
Tumblr media
The bear stamps are my past self and the phone is my current self. Although now I like different things and rely on different things than I did before, there are still traces of my past self lingering such as my love for stuffed animals and my love for art :D

Animation
Hey Tumblr,
Today I wanted to do some actual animation.
I'll be honest, this portion doesn't directly relate to my personal theme but you could say it relates to the overall project, movement.
To warm myself up I just did a simple ball bouncing animation. I did this on my iPad using Procreate.

Print Making
Hey Tumblr,
Today I got to try out inking my lino stamp and making designs with it.
First I mixed up some light blue ink and kept stamping till the colour faded.
Tumblr media
Then I mixed up some pink to try out using another colour.
Tumblr media
A lot of people were using other colours so there weren't any other spatulas available. I decided to just mix the colours I already had and make a nice purple. Suzannah was getting me to try making circles and lines with the stamp.
Tumblr media
This is the final piece I made today using just the one stamp. I hope to, on Thursday, make my other stamp and try out more harsh colours to get a nice contrast from the soft, baby colours.

Graphic Design
Hi Tumblr,
I finished my collage piece on aging and movement through life.
Tumblr media
I used a black strip behind the cut out pictures to draw the eye to the left of the page and guide them to the right. I found some quotes from magazines that I found fitting to the images and cut out lettering for the top.
I then decided to make it personal to me, and because I had some spare time, to add pictures of myself overtop the models' heads.
Tumblr media
I can't lie I actually like how this looks. I only added them to the stages of life I've actually gone through (since I obviously don't have pictures of me as a middle aged woman). I had the thought to use pictures of my mam but she didn't want her pictures in this so I just decided to leave them. I used the images I posted for animation character design. I also added some lines on the bottom for a more graphic feel.

Animation
Hiii Tumblr,
Today I started on the character designs for my short animation. Since I'm doing it as a walk cycle I have the characters facing to the side but I might make character sheets with them facing the front as well if I get the chance.
Tumblr media
This is the initial sketch, trying to find the right sizes to make everything and a simple outfit and hair style that still reflects me at that stage in my life.
Tumblr media
Here's an idea to make the animation style look interesting since it's a walk cycle so there won't be much happening.

Animation
Hi Tumblr,
Today I compiled some images from a few stages of my life so far to help me with character design for my short animation.
Somehow I could only find one picture of me as a baby but the other stages I've managed to compile a few photos.
It was weird going back through images of myself as a child, I'd almost forgotten what it was like to not have red hair 😅
Tumblr media
I have it so there's baby, child (roughly 4-10yrs), pre-teen (11-13yrs), teen (16-17yrs) and young adult (18-19yrs). I couldn't find any pictures of me from 14-15 yrs but I looked the same as I did in the pre-teen stage.
I will use these images to help when designing my drawings.

Animation
Hey Tumblr,
Since I've now changed what I'm doing my project on I felt confident enough to start some drawings for my new animation.
It's about movement through life, and for this animation I'll be focusing on the movement of my life.
It'll be a walk cycle where it'll show the progression of my life through aging/ my appearance.
I have done a rough sketch on some thumbnails.
Tumblr media
It's simple but it was just to help me get my ideas across. I drew this in Procreate on my iPad.

Research
Hiya Tumblr,
Here is some more artist research for my movement brief.
Tumblr media
This painting, 'The Four Stages of Human Life' by May H. Lesser, shows human life simplified down to four stages. You start out as a baby, then grow to a child/teen, then to an adult/elderly person, then you die. I like how it's not shown in a simple line or simple progression. The images are around the image with the skeleton, representing death, right in the centre. Although everyone's lives go in different paths we are all tied by the same beginnings and endings, being birth and death.
Tumblr media
Now first off, I would like to preface this image by saying my project is not on human evolution. Everyone recognises the image of human evolution and it's had multiple iterations through art and history. I like the composition of the image. The straightforward your start at one point and end at the last. It's simple to look at and to follow. You know what the image/piece is conveying when it's put in this format.
For my piece I could start it as a child on the far left and end it as an older person, or if I wanted to make it a full movement through life, a skeleton/grave on the far right.

Research
Hey Tumblr
Today I'm getting a little scientific with my research. I decided to look up what the stages of life are defined as by some developmentalists (people who study developmental psychology). They usually section human development into eight stages.
Prenatal Development
Infancy and Toddlerhood
Early Childhood
Middle Childhood
Adolescence
Early Adulthood
Middle Adulthood
Late Adulthood
There are more stages for early life because although, for instance, a one five year old and a ten year old are both children there are many cognitive and motor skills that are different between them.
Many artists when, representing the progression through life, don't have sections for each stage of early development because it's harder to portray the difference between a five and ten year old other than making one taller. This isn't great representation as there could be ten years old's as tall as a five year old and vice versa, so they typically show childhood as one stage.
I find it interesting to see how science defines the stages as life whereas artists more so show it as
baby
child
teen
young adult
adult
elderly

Hi Tumblr,
Here are some paintings and images I found which are related to what I am doing my project on, Movement Through Life.
Tumblr media
This is a medieval painting on the stages of man, ranging from a young child to first love to having a child to growing old. It's more simply represented at the bottom as from crib to grave. There are nine stages of life in this painting.
Tumblr media
This painting from the 19th century shows life in seven stages progressing through steps going from birth, on the bottom, to death, at the top. It could be interpreted as life being a stairway to heaven.
