Mitä on digitaalinen liiketoiminta ja mitä se ei ole?

Digitalisaatio.

Olisiko elämämme helpompaa ilman kaikkea meitä ympäröivää tekniikkaa? Luultavasti ei. Tekniikka ja teknologia ovat helpottaneet elämäämme paljon, mutta silti aina aika ajoin tunnemme ärtymystä ja jopa vihaa kaikkea elektronista kohtaan. Tavalliset laskut siirtyvät e-laskuiksi, älykelloihin on saatava nettiyhteys ja yhä nuoremmat ja nuoremmat lapset käyttävät älypuhelimia ja tabletteja paremmin kuin suurin osa yli 60-vuotiaista. Tähän on tultu.

Kumminkin asiat ovat mielestäni paremmin. Juuri yksi huomattava asia, jossa tekninen kehitys on ollut todella nopeaa ja hyödyllistä on digitaalinen liiketoiminta. Tällä termillä voidaan kattaa iso osa nykyisestä kaupanteosta ja kaikesta ihmisten välisestä kaupasta. Kauppaa tehdään verkossa enemmän kuin koskaan aikaisemmin ja tämä näkyy erilaisten verkkokauppojen räjähdysmäisessä kasvussa

Fountainpark.fi määrittelee digitalisaatiota hyvin positiivisissa merkeissä: digitalisaatio mahdollistaa asioiden tekemisen fiksummin ja yhdessä. Lisäksi sivustolla kerrotaan, että digitalisaatio on hauskaa ja kokeilevaa. Näistä väitteistä olen ainakin samaa mieltä siitä, että asiat voidaan tehdä fiksummin. Esimerkiksi miksi matkustaa töihin ruuhkissa jonottaen veturin kuljettajien lakkoillessa (vrt. länsimetro), kun voit jäädä kotiin tekemään etätöitä omalta kotisohvaltasi.

Mitä sitten ei ole digitaalinen liiketoiminta? Se on jääräpäistä liiketoimintaa, joka vastustaa kehitystä. Vain harvat yritykset jäävät junnaamaan vanhoille tavoilleen antiikkisemmissa liiketoimintatavoissaan. Näistä meitä valaisee Jukka Ala-mutka kirjoituksessaan: Liiketoiminnan digitalisointi vai digitaalinen liiketoiminta. Esimerkkeinä tämänkaltaisista yrityksistä Ala-mutka mainitsee muun muassa useita entisiä kännykkäsuuruuksia, kuten Nokian, Motorolan, sekä Blackberryn. Yhteistä näillä kaikilla yrityksillä oli kyvyttömyys kehittyä digitaalisessa liiketoiminnassa. Ja kuinkas sitten kävikään. Tämä kyvyttömyys ei rajoitu pelkästään matkapuhelimien valmistajiin, vaan jatkuu myös tavarataloihin. Anttila on tästä surkuhupaisa esimerkki. “Digiin ei ole oikeasti panostettu täysillä vaan se on sivujuonne tavaratalojen kyljessä.”, kirjoittaa Ala-mutka tekstissään. Monia kiinnostavia tulevaisuuden näkymiä on myös taksi- ja liikkumispalveluissa. Pystyvätkö tavalliset taksit ja muut maksulliset kulkuneuvot ajan kehityksessä vai tuleeko esimerkiksi jokin Uberin kaltainen uusi tulokas valtaamaan markkinat kokonaan?

Digiteknologia on kaikesta huolimatta tullut tänne jäädäkseen. Helsingin sanomien Hanna Syrjälä kirjoittaa kolumnissaan ironisesti digitalisoitumisen ongelmistaan. Nämä ongelmat saattoivat tuntua absurdeilta vielä viime vuosi kymmenellä, mutta nyt ne ovat totisinta totta. Muistan itsekin nauraneeni ajatuksissani isovanhemmilleni, kun he taistelivat matkapuhelimella puhelun soittamisen kanssa ja kuinka turhautuminen otti vallan heistä molemmista. Toisaalta jos minut laitettaisiin lypsämään lehmä, olisin aivan yhtä pulassa kuin he puhelimensa kanssa.

Mobiiliviestinnän historiaa

Löysin Tekniikka&Talous lehdestä mielenkiintoisen artikkelin koskien mobiiliviestinnän historiaa. 3.4.2018. kirjoitettu artikkeli käsittelee 45 vuotta sitten tapahtunutta teknillistä läpimurtoa. 3.4.1973 Motorolan tutkimus- ja tuotekehitysjohtaja Martin Cooper soitti ensimmäisen kännykkäpuhelun New Yorkin kaduilla. Artikkelissa ehdotellaan, että YK:n tulisi tehdä kyseisestä päivästä kansainvälisen mobiilipäivän. Tekstissä kerrotaan, että kyseinen puhelu tehtiin Motorolan kehittäneellä matkapuhelin prototyypillä ja puhelin painoin noin kilon verran. Puheaikaa kyseisellä matkapuhelimella oli puoli tuntia ja latausaika oli kymmenen tuntia. Motorola onnistui tuomaan markkinoille vasta kymmenen vuoden päästä ensimmäisen kaupallisen kännykkänsä.

On hauskaa ajatella kuinka pitkälle tekniikka on mennyt viimeisen 30-35 vuoden aikana. Jos vuonna 1973 ihmisen tuli kantaa kilon painavaa matkapuhelinta mukanaan jota hän oli ladannut viimeiset kymmenen tuntia ja pystyi sillä puhumaan vajaat puoli tuntia. Nykypäivänä jokaisella ihmisella on kannettava tietokone taskussaan pullollaan informaatiota ja mahdollisuuksia yhteydenottoihin. Nykynuori ei varmasti osaa arvostaa sitä mitä hänellä on kolmasosan päivästään kädessään. Tekniikka kehittyy ja päivät menee sitä mukaan eteenpäin. Siksi on tärkeää pysyä mukana, mutta muistaa myös mistä kaikki on lähtöisin.

It all started when a certain “Ex-Motorolan” posted on a website about how 50% of Motorola’s Chicago workforce had been laid off.

Rumors abound that Motorola is laying off half its Chicago workforce An anonymous post on the internet alleges that Motorola has laid off half its Chicago Motorola Mobility workforce. While one anonymous post is not enough to seriously believe, the information seems to be corroborated by an independent Moto Mod developer. Right now, with the evidence at hand, it seems likely that these layoffs are in fact happening and Motorola simply hasn’t announced it yet. It’s no secret that Motorola hasn’t been doing too well since Lenovo took over the legendary smartphone brand. While it’s great that the Moto Z line earned some good reviews and the company forged new territory with its line of Moto Mods (combined with Motorola boasting a lot about what’s to come in 2018), you don’t have to search too hard to find information that all is not well at Motorola/Lenovo. Rumors are bubbling up that Motorola either has or will lay off half of its Chicago Motorola Mobility workforce. Right now, the primary source of the story is pretty flimsy, but there are corroborating rumors that make it seem legit. The main source is a post on TheLayoff.com where an anonymous user with the moniker “Ex-Motorolan” gives news on the huge purge of employees: Motorola Mobility (Lenovo) just tapped 50% of their Chicago workforce on the shoulder to let them know they are being laid off. Their expected last day of work is April 6, 2018. Sad… and to think this was my dream job getting out of college. Editor's Pick Lenovo teases Motorola Razr comeback… again WhatMobile Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing has hinted that the Motorola Razr series could make a comeback. Yang made the comments during an interview at the MWC 2018 trade show in Barcelona (via TechRadar) following a similar statement made … There is no proof provided of the layoffs, so it’s hard to take this anonymous information very seriously. However, it is not too hard to fathom it being true when there are plenty of reports that Lenovo and Motorola are in some serious hot water when it comes to selling smartphones. The allegations of “Ex-Motorolan” are further supported by some posts from an Indiegogo campaign. Liangchen Chen crowdfunded over $160,000 to build a Moto Mod keyboard. However, in the comments section of the campaign, Mr. Chen implies that he has been made aware of the layoffs due to his connection with Motorola’s Moto Mod team: Mr. Chen is concerned about the future of his Moto Mod keyboard. If he cannot get an official license from Motorola as well as access to the OTA server in the Moto Mod department, his keyboard will not work with any current or future Motorola phones. He later says that if he can work out the OTA update situation, his Mod will at least work on current Moto Mod-compatible devices. If you combine what Mr. Chen says with the anonymous post from “Ex-Motorolan,” it gives some serious credibility to the claim that there was a massive layoff at Motorola that hasn’t yet been officially announced. We can only assume that in the next few days either more allegations of the layoffs will surface or Motorola/Lenovo will make an official statement. What these layoffs would mean for the future of Motorola, the line of Moto Z phones, and the upcoming Moto G6, Moto 5, and Moto Z3, is unknown. , via Android Authority http://bit.ly/2FotWmY
