my general perception of them

The thing with a good deal of female characters from the witcher franchise is that their writing is so laced with misogyny that you have to grit your teeth through some of it until you get to the good part. I used to dislike Keira during my first TW3 playthrough (which was my first exposure to the witcher franchise) because i didn't like how she took advantage of Geralt and how #girlboss she was portrayed. Now, funnily enough, i love her for the same reasons that used to make her disagreeable to me. She's ambitious and she won't apologize for it; she's already sacrificed a lot to get what she wants or where she wants to be and she's ready to sacrifice even more; she's bossy, she's straightforward, she's not worried about getting her hands dirty to do what needs to be done (although she will complain about it beforehand). She's a magic user who has brass knuckles and she punches people with it, for god's sake. How could I not immediatly stan her

But that doesn't aleniate her from femininity either? Because a big part of her character and her personality is being a Woman in a very traditional sense of the word and presenting as such, but unlike a lot of female characters written by men, in her case, it goes full circle and produces a character who is hyperaware of her gender and how to perform it, and she plays with it in a way i want to call queer. Like. She's the most trans cis woman i've ever seen. I remember once you said she reminded you of a drag queen and i think that's a great comparison!

I also love how hard she's leaning into the country witch/cottagecore aesthetic but loathes everything about nature after her stay in Velen. I especially love her TW3 gwent card for that reason because it goes even harder than her game model, what with the flower crown, all the ribbons and accessories, girl how can you even breathe with all those necklaces. She probably uses insecticide whenever she sees so much as an ant indoors. She's so funny. Area woman born and bred in NYC forced to open her clinic in the most backwater town of the Midwest, hates every second of it.
