take 4: the tension (gulf spanned with incomplete, continuously crumbling bridges) between the perspective of oneself as the Deservingly Epic Winner Protagonist Person who dares to be Out Of Line versus the need to actually completely stay in line within this b/c it hinges on being in harmony with the preexisting hierarchies which will supposedly reward the "merit" of this Actor. while everyone whose existence is Inferior, according to the hierarchies, is defined by being Out Of Line, which these same people resent & respond to, also Staying In Line with the hierarchy, by trying to reinforce the dynamics of these inferior / superior groupings. "everything pathologized about the inferior groups / rejected as what's Wrong with their existence so as to "cause" these dynamics is "take 4" b/c this is from me trying to write about winston quant kid 2 billions like holy shit a series operating on this logic huh, giving this unvarnished expression of this perspective b/c it's assuming (& requiring...) we all have it. winston is constantly responded to as Guy Who's Out Of Line. the "superior" parties who hate him & get to have him as their punching bag / hit with the butt of the joke / at least ignored & excluded, but taken advantage of, but who all have to Stay In Line, how's that going for them even when it comes to the writing, where characters can't do anything if it's too disruptive of the In Universe hierarchy, unless it's a finale zone for a permissable shakeup, where ppl insulating/supporting each other being a bit Out Of Line is not a problem b/c they individually recognize each other's transcendently True worthiness in thee objective hierarchy we all assume exists, but definitely can never disrupt the out of universe hierarchy, e.g. the show decides wendy is the true hero, b/c she deserves to be. taylor has to hire back dollar bill & stand back while wags & wendy take the lead & the spotlight & hate the autistic guy they hired & show up so the Winner, who was written into the show with nothing to do but tell taylor they're not quite as good as wendy & then provide a vagina amidst otherwise being an Everyemployee who fails to even differentiate from an Axe Cap style everyemployee, can announce their winningness detached from anything that actually happened ever.
counterpart to winston's departure needing an audience of people to stand there & stay in line, which on that side of the same coin meant punishing his Out Of Lineness that doesn't even act like anyone bothered to think of [this is one particular preexisting guy. you thought he liked scifi once before you lost interest in even suggesting he has interests, though, will roland likes scifi, will roland wore his own open buttonup as quant kid 2 that'd define the Look, will roland happened to have the facial hair just kept for production b/c who would care, will roland brought the entire je ne sais quoi acting interpretation that made quant kid 2 go from "out of line guy we kill once" to "out of line guy we keep around to kill all thee time until finale 'haha but seriously though' material means pushing him out of the way in s6 & then s7 alike" like hmm] like everyone just spitballed "annoying things! cringe loser things! things that would never happen to me, a deserving winner!!" & put it in as easter eggs as though that would even make sense, much less [you have no other priority?] but like. rian's sendoff didn't do any better for acting like she's a specific character who's said & done things we're meant to remember & have thought about then & now. taylor didn't get to have resolution with philip. they Had to have resolution with wendy that, again, has nothing to do with any/everything prior, except perhaps to contradict it. this is what anyone got for Staying In Line like superior winners. the autistic [annoying arrogant inferior undeserving etc] Out Of Lineness that would be so supposedly admired instead seen as pure Other shit that's projected upon ppl so as to Reject it thusly. couldn't be me!! i'm a winner who will always have Superior ranking in the hierarchy & treated accordingly!!! i Must be!!!! like i must Kill people who seem to be disrupting this, even by acting like a person who assumes they're equal to me despite being Different. there all along like wow winston existing Out Of Line is so powerful. he can harmonize with & support taylor so well b/c they're introduced as being so Out Of Line, up to the inevitable point of breaking out & starting their own thing entirely!!! but while it's like, okay yeah, you Have to reel them back in by thwarting them b/c otherwise they break so far from central men's orbit they exit the series or you have to put Them at the center (imagine...) (plus! the role winston plays in them getting as close to this as they ever can be!) but then in the end taylor's just shortchanged b/c when it comes time to take down a central man as thee main thing all season, series finale style, they should be knocking it out in a few episodes with sacker & philip. instead we focus on wendy given the helm & fucking around all season. after disposing of winston b/c who even needs him for anything, this is Stay In Line times, and to do that we can do nothing w/autistic people but hate them & punish them for being undeserving. but don't worry b/c he doesn't get to be so Out Of Line as to easily cause problems for them & thwart them, b/c he just doesn't. taylor waits around on wendy & tells her she's the best b/c they just do. we are all in line on all of this ourselves so whew, there's no Disruption to notice if that key Alignment is maintained. rian was never holding herself Above winston if we just really tentatively suggest she doesn't think that she was, while letting every double standard at play be acted out. rian being "out of line" was that she wasn't being aggressive enough about any of her Superiority, b/c if you didn't leave bruising then nothing was That Bad; cue the assaults and boundary violations Reserved for the inferior losers as fun times & nothing anyone is beholden to with Consequences, we don't even make the viewer stick with the consequences of how it affects the target a second too long, lest you start to think it's Drama & not Jokes.
anyways it's all about the [categorization as inferior Other based on an assumed Hierarchy = inherently defined as Out Of Line] all "why get a formal diagnosis from a professional who doesn't know what to look for when at age 5 my peers went 'something's wrong with this one' & acted 'accordingly'" like even when people "know" what's Wrong with someone to make them the odd one out / "incompatible" w/what makes others exist Right, it's time to interpret everything else about them as "backing that up" no matter what, certainly no matter if it involves theoretically Valued concepts, b/c it's all first & foremost Staying In Line with the hierarchy, where the correct way to do things is: if you Can push someone else into greater vulnerability while you're established as Insulated, you Do. tl;dr winston inherently continuously Out Of Line; being "superior" requires an ultimate (&/or also quite Immediate. especially when it comes to "simple" matters already "correctly" arranged in the supposed Objective Hierarchy, like: winston's "objectively" inferiority (autistic swag)) Staying In Line. and what comes of it. all the most engaging & complex shit when people get to not actually stay in line. the power of it if taylor & tmc & allies didn't have to ultimately be shoved into Staying In Line even when it means wendy is the best & oh who cares about taylor & philip when wags is around etc etc. if winston being someone Out Of Line was seen as relevant & not an easy nonstop joke. while a quant who is so In Line as to correctly personally abuse him even more than others are doing is so ""out of line"" as to decide she's already gotten everything she wants & may as well live the dream now, b/c she's not an aggressive man, one has to suppose, same diff as wendy getting to believe she's Better than everyone & is nobly in charge of orchestrating their fates when she Means & Knows so well, & is somehow pitted against prince being this same figure but without having to confront that fact. he's mean! or whatever. he's talking about killing people & wendy isn't so that sorts it out forever. "abuse your local autists; it's funny & their fault & consequenceless b/c they're not real people" is also harmonious with all our ideas. edgy rulebreaking bold independent Out of Line heroes completely in accord w/the established hierarchies. & those whose existence threatening peership disrupts it who are written off losers who could never upend those heroes' goings on. everyone Actually being peers is unimagineable, not as a figure of speech. we do not imagine it, what are you even talking about. now for the Merited Hierarchy to be acted out as arranged, which is fun, god i wish that were me. Independent Agents ascending it only!! & people who Cheat to get in like loser nerds w/their math, b/c they can't Deserve it. now to keep insisting that everyone else could just be On My Level if they tried, while also responding violently if it seems like weirdos / ppl who aren't Supposed to be here are infringing on my level (the only violence is physical strikes that made contact, & perhaps killed you)
anyways just another installment of [fake fans haunted by billions, & other things which are in real life, such as the fictional series billions] musings i have to excise at all b/c [this was take 4]. winston Out Of Line. superior correct winners who have to Stay In Line at related great costs despite the supposed associated wins of that. his autistic swag. knowing ppl Are different autism style b/c they're "out of line." encountering irl autistic people without realizing it & repeatedly writing "this nerd guy is just So annoying ugh!! he's just like weird & doing everything wrong for no reason & won't just Be Normal or Shut Up & Go Away!! but at least his intractible arrogant cluelessness also means we have fun punishing & taking advantage of him" Type butt of jokes into things. those cringe loser Insistently Annoying Weirdo nerds who we all find insufferable & punish, we all know them, inherent Inferior Other Out Of Line that they are. now it's a Guy we all hate & enjoy seeing suffer & Understand as a less deserving less [person] just dropped into the periphery of this fiction. he will easily be thwarted from an alliance with the [person designed to be Out of Line in a way that Is considered Legitimate] that would let them shatter the limits of the series in 5 sec which we're also holding them back by the scruff of the neck to prevent anyways while pushing forward ppl supposed to be even More correct b/c uh um they're a little more Normal, & perhaps even Women, who are innately more caring & gentle. there they go hurting those around them as much as they can, with nothing stopping them at all, but they're using their inside voices & not issuing physical threats so that's what i'm talking about. that is heroic, vs the villainous efforts to navigate life as though everyone will respect them as a fellow person which Autists egregiously pull, to which you can do anything you want to Reject this. maybe even decide you wanna personally use them. isn't that nice of you. no, we don't know what to do with the "this guy won't stop acting like he gets to think he's a person" but eventually send him away after the dozen trampled boundaries to punish him for fun b/c what else was the point of him? anyways don't worry i saw the autistic swag. the nonbinary swag it didn't even know was there. the nonbinary swag it knew was there but held back by the scruff of the neck b/c all billions' most engaging, potential filled characters are the ones Held Back b/c they're threatening too much [out of line] / their out of Lineness must be contained; vs everyone perfectly in line who keeps being pushed in front of them no matter what b/c uhhh.
let's go Out of Line gang. continual inevitable Disruption of the norm(tm). like even just standing there vs "oh immediately i fucking Hate this guy." billions where anyone considers winston for 5 sec would also shatter apart. taylor would be too powerful even more than they already are if they didn't have to stay wendy's sidekick no matter what. rian who didn't have to come back from the hiatus even more "right" than they presumably intended her to always be (bound to thee hierachy / actually always Staying In Line. if she's out of it, psych, actually that was just a correction of the "objective" hierarchal order waiting to reconfigure itself around the situation). standing around waiting like okay but the payoff that Could happen....okay still time though lol....well here we are
the fundamentalness of the Out Of Lineness. quantessential....send post
#another [mentally pacing while writing out the saga] moment#winston billions#it's all about the Out Of Line....#b/c it's all about the hierarchy; & the fact that it's People beneath you = forever being in conflict w/Reality being ''out of line''#this person talking & taking up space & breathing & Appearing & Behaving & Acting & [Autonomous]ing....no. no!!!!!!!#tmc just so happened to be Weird except also mafee is there but he's too not ''aggressive'' enough for axe cap. or is he!! not that much#all while even in peak tmc times....thee hierarchy! we Hate winston & Will all act accordingly to keep him inferior(tm)#we'll also use him. but not include him as a peer when we can help it. or even acknowledge a ''value'' for having found him Useful(tm)#just like wow really didn't think at all about winston besides [he IS out of line!!!]. ppl can do all That to him & not have it questioned#like hey so long as maybe you do it without....well they did also physically assault him in the end so really no limits obviously#the make or break context? his autistacity means well he deserves it from anyone#whereas if some of those ppl do some of those things to Winners w/the same goal to punish & hurt & coerce? hmm bit messed up#it's not double standards when you objectively buy into it right. if winston was a Good Enough Real Enough person we'd all Love him#however we just all immediately recognize a weird little autistic loser & that's all that is relevant forever somehow! hmm!#most ''out of line'' billions characters unleashed....we deserved this#what a coincidence that at the high points of this; like say; Kompenso; winston is treated the best!! 4x12!! Hmm!!!#irrelevant i said. nothing to see here like there's nothing inside him but Cringe Wrongness. scene over! series over! autists are Others#they power down in nooks & crannies & stop imitating Real People words & deeds when we're not looking so just do whatever#that Whatever means finding it rewarding to go after them & assert power=superior status over them? epic Normal shit. what else is there#rhetorical!! stop answering about like ''nobody's life & existence treated as Less''#but at what cost? oh so a really epic man can't like pwn people now?? perhaps an epic Woman? all cishet agenda style btw? hell

As the helicopter soars above the city, Byakuya visualises skyscrapers reaching toward the sky as if wanting to claim the blue expanse for itself, like that’s its God-given right. The buildings wouldn’t look out of place in a boss battle in a light gun video game. Makoto once compared them to the final level in an old zombie shooter that he played a few times at his local arcade.
Byakuya imagines the futuristic city, teeming with electricity and life, but the image lingers only for a couple of seconds before rusting, wilting, collapsing. In reality, Towa City is an industrial wasteland. Its railroad halo dips and splinters throughout, as if made from thorns, and the ghost of a bullet train explodes into dust that rains down on the city. Buildings have been amputated, leaving only stumps if nothing at all. Squinting, he discerns a car park that is now a graveyard, with graves instead of cars.
They land the helicopter in the concrete clearing behind a rundown hotel, the loud wailing of the rotorcraft’s blades slowing into pops before falling silent. No red carpet awaits them. A staircase unfolds from the helicopter’s doorway to the scarred ground. The sky is a red lipstick stain that fades into purple like a bruise.
And a short distance away from Byakuya stands Touko Fukawa.
Touko bounds toward him. “Byakuya-sama!”
Yes, he thinks, she would still call him that. Her wild mane of aubergine hair writhes with every step. Meanwhile, he glides over. His feet make no sound.
“I’ve missed you so much,” she says, stopping in front of him. She breathes in, filling her lungs with air. He brings a finger to her lips.
“Let me speak first.” Byakuya can feel her lips vibrate as words bubble in her mouth. After he lifts his finger off, her mouth hangs ajar but she stays quiet. Now it’s his turn to inhale deeply. “We have been on quite a journey. Before we met, I held the weight of the conglomerate and all the pressures involved, while you...”
The light against her lenses flashes warningly as her brow dips into a furrow.
“... had, and still have, your own,” he finishes. His teeth scrape against his lips. “When I entrusted you with Towa City, do you remember what I said?”
“No matter the distance, I will not feel a thing,” she recites.
“That’s right. You must understand that my creation was a business investment.” He swishes a hand through the air, maintaining eye contact. “Romance goes against my existence. At that time, though I had started opening up to the idea of relying on others, and letting others rely on me... I was not interested in... in romance.”
Her silence provides a clear sky that his voice fills with grey clouds. He coughs into his knuckles.
“Part of me rejected the idea of romance... And yet, to my surprise, during our time apart, where we could only speak in video calls, my heart grew fonder for you.”
Touko’s puzzled squint blooms into a wide-eyed stare. Its intensity burns his cheeks. Still, she doesn’t say a word. What if after she had drawn close enough, without the gleam on the computer screen on his face, she realised he is as cold as a monitor? Is that what is happening now? Aoi sometimes remarked that Touko was too good for him, and when Aoi became annoyed enough with something he did or said, she would add that Touko deserved better.
He used to never doubt himself, but for the first time in his life, he wonders if he is good enough.
It feels like he has taken his first step somewhere damp and mouldy, where the floorboards could give way at any moment. Without moving, his stomach drops as if he’s already falling. Byakuya’s tongue squirms in his mouth, as if trying to reverse the words that it already unleashed, but he can’t take them back.
Instead of trying to articulate his feelings, he decides to demonstrate them to her. He grabs her waist. Her head jolts back in surprise and a moment later, their lips bump together. For several long seconds, they stand stiffly, Byakuya’s hands on her body, Touko’s hands cupping air, until he needs to peel himself away to breathe.
She gazes at him, brow wrinkled, not smiling. Then she opens her mouth and asks, “Are you okay, Togami-kun?”
The voice does not belong to her. Byakuya blinks, fracturing the concrete, the sky, her body, revealing his true surroundings. Opposite him sits Makoto, the two of them seated in a helicopter.
“You zoned out there for a good few minutes,” says Makoto.
Byakuya responds with a grimace.
To bat away the encroaching silence, Makoto chirps, “I can’t believe in an hour, we’ll finally be reunited with Komaru and Fukawa-san.”
In response, Byakuya gives a solitary hum. Makoto’s smile wanes.
“Are you motion sick?” he asks Byakuya.
“No,” Byakuya says more harshly than intended, the syllable cracking the still air like a whip and making Makoto tense. He flattens his tone and adds, “I’m in thought. That’s all.”
“About the reunion?”
Byakuya nods.
“It’ll be fine,” Makoto assures him with conviction that puts Byakuya on the defensive.
“What am I supposed to say to her?”
‘Her’ being Touko, of course. The conglomerate taught him a dozen languages and how to play as many instruments. They trained him to operate multiple types of aircrafts, earn billions of dollars and not bat an eyelid as a rival company begged for mercy. With the matter of future heirs, they instructed him on what to look out for on female applicants’ forms while choosing potential mothers. However, when it came to developing feelings, that was treated in the same way as stabbing a fork into a plug socket, or offering to wash the dishes instead of letting the servants attend to them. It was common sense not to do those things.
And yet here Byakuya was, spending the journey to Towa City mentally rehearsing how he was going to confess to a woman who had gained the power to make his heart swell too big for his chest. The conglomerate could not have prepared him for such a woman. Such an intelligent woman. Such an empathetic woman. Such a loyal woman.
Most of all, a woman who drew strength from what the conglomerate called weakness. Love.
“I mean... you can say hello?” suggests Makoto.
Byakuya’s steely gaze clenches Makoto. “Then what?”
“Like... ‘How are you?’”
“I can’t treat this like a regular meeting, as if we had only last seen each other at the end of work the previous day,” says Byakuya.
“Why not?”
“This one is different.”
As Makoto’s eyes flicker, he drinks in the tension in Byakuya’s shoulders, the tightness in his fists, and says, “Ah. I see.”
Though Makoto must have known for some time now. He and the others had started alluding to Byakuya’s feelings for Touko before Byakuya was even in denial about them, back when Byakuya didn’t know what he was experiencing, or what was making his stomach flutter.
Evening has dyed the sky orange, darkness creeping in at the edges. Byakuya stares at it through the window. His unsmiling reflection leaves a faint imprint on the glass. Silence swirls around them, hanging over their heads like the rotating blades of the helicopter.
“Are you going to tell her?” asks Makoto, and he doesn’t need to elaborate.
“I should,” Byakuya replies.
“You can try a pick-up line.” Without having to look at him, Byakuya can hear the grin seeping into Makoto’s tone. “For example... Do you like raisins? How would you feel about a date?”
Byakuya’s reflection glares as Makoto carries on.
“If I could rearrange the alphabet, I’d put ‘U’ and ‘I’ together. Or - ”
“That’s enough,” Byakuya says with a shudder, raising a hand. “I aim for my demeanour to be calm and composed. I do not intend to act like a fool, throwing out hackneyed lines.”
“Sorry, sorry. But if you don’t mind me saying, you’re overthinking it, Togami-kun.”
This earns Makoto a look from Byakuya. The curve of Makoto’s lips is slimmer now, but still holding on.
“In these sorts of situations, it’s best not to use your brain...” Makoto taps himself on the head. “... but to follow your heart.” His hand shifts to his heart and pats there next.
Byakuya tightens his lips and returns his gaze to the window.
“Easy for you to say,” he mutters.
The helicopter lands by the hotel that Touko and Komaru have been living in. If not for the lit windows and neon sign, the dark column would have blended in with the night. Steel bars cage the building, mostly unbent. Byakuya’s attention fixes longest on the sign that flashes ‘TOWA HOTEL’, ‘TOWA HOTEL’, pulsing like his heartbeat, reminding him over and over where he is.
He balls his sweaty hands into fists. He can do this. ‘Follow your heart,’ Makoto had said, and his heart has been caged for so long. It’s time that he freed it.
As in his imagined scenarios, Touko runs over, her arms spread as if about to take. Byakuya tenses, for a moment thinking that he has to catch her before she flies away again.
Fortunately, she stops in front of him, her feet rooted to the ground. “Byakuya-sama!”
Byakuya swears he feels the spray of her spit, but it might just be his sweat. Makoto digs him gently in the ribs, quirks his lips, then walks toward Komaru. At no point does Touko’s eyes stray from Byakuya, who lifts his chin and adjusts his tie. Low laughter simmers in Touko’s mouth.
“I can finally smell you...” She hugs herself. “It has been so long.”
In the past, he would have told her to shut up after saying something like that, but that doesn’t seem appropriate now. Such a comment used to come across as vulgar, and maybe it still does, slightly, but he has grown accustomed to the vines that her existence has curled around him. His tongue feels thick in his mouth as he tries to think of a response.
“Well, I can smell you,” he says.
This prompts Touko to shrink back and worry her lip with her teeth. “D-Do I...? I showered earlier today. Argh, did Komaru swap my shampoo for dog p-?”
Touko cuts herself off with a groan and shakes her head. Byakuya reaches a hand toward her.
“I mean you smell good.” He immediately cringes. Good. He said, ‘good.’ Her brow creases, whether it be from confusion or from hearing such a lame adjective, and he adds quickly, “You smell like...”
Byakuya breathes in but finds himself unable to smell her, so he leans toward her so he can. She gasps. He straightens sharply.
Time ticks as Byakuya mentally flips through the scripts he had rehearsed on the helicopter.
“Romance goes against my existence,” he says.
No, wait. He hadn’t meant to say it like that.
“Went against,” he clarifies. “Remember when I said ‘No matter the distance, I will not feel a thing’?”
Touko nods slowly, frowning. His head fills with steam, rendering it practically useless, which leaves him one other organ to depend on. His heart.
“Do you like raisins?” he says. “I’d put ‘U’ and ‘I’ together.”
Her troubled expression gives way to concern. “Byakuya-sama...?”
Byakuya lets out a frustrated groan and slaps himself on the forehead. “What I want to say is...”
She springs onto tiptoe and pecks his lips.
In that moment of contact, time stops. No more than a second could have passed, but by the time she returns her heels to the ground, he feels like he has been flung up into the sky before crashing back down again, his head spinning.
While he stands frozen, she wraps her arms around him.
“I understand,” she says muffled into his chest.
He hesitates, then hugs her back, and presses his lips against the top of her head. She smells like strawberries.

As a firefighter TK would have his hands full to act during the protests in many cities in the USA. I wonder if Ronen protests on the streets too. Would a little bit strange if he plays a firefighter who would fight fires at the same time.
I am sure that the firefighters have been kept busy, but I’m not too focused on all that in this situation beyond looking at what the fires represent and the acts of protest they support. I don’t think it would be weird for Ronen to protest based on the character he plays on TV, but again, it’s not something I think too much about.
The rant that follows is not really directed at you. I just want to get it off my chest so my apologies for rambling like I always do.
I’m not black, so I don’t want to try to speak for black people and would prefer to magnify the voices of those who are and let their voices lead this conversation. But because I can’t help saying something, even if it’s a mess of something, I’m just going to unleash my raw thoughts (and because I don’t know how to be brief... it will be a long one).
The way I see it is that the real fire burning across is not the fire of protest. The real fire in America is racism, and it’s not a fire that those who are privileged positions have chosen to put out historically because that fire gave the United States the spark it needed to create all the triumphs the country has faced. The fire has created some good, but overwhelmingly, it has created immorality because of how it was built.
This fire is like a fire made of plastic; it’s releasing toxic fumes. It’s a raging fire, and it is killing all the structures it touches with junk that poisons people. It is a fire built with the oxygen of black people. It deprives them of their lives. It deprives them of their breaths, their efforts, and their deserved legacies, all of which are stolen by those who can easily breathe on their own. Black people are forced to breathe at half capacity, and even so, many are still able to push themselves to the level of and beyond that of white people even when they have to go millions of extra miles just to get to the finish line. They huff and puff to do what is given effortlessly to the privileged.
The fire of racism is a fire that could be put out, but those with the hoses choose not to. They let the poison continue because for the privileged, the poison is addictive and it makes them feel powerful.
The fire poisons those in power with plagues like cognitive dissonance, hate, and immorality. It hardens their hearts and tells them that doing villainous things is their right despite those actions being wrong. Most critically, it poisons those who aren’t privileged so that they never have the chance to strive as easily to be the best versions of themselves. It causes the unprivileged harm, and it results in hateful people killing and despising them just for being. Black people become scapegoats despite keeping society functioning and being foundational in the United States.
Many privileged people don’t even recognize the destructive forces that society has been built upon (this ignorance doesn’t excuse bad behaviors but it does exist because of the all consuming inferno that has taken over). Privileged people too often don’t care to look in the mirror and see that they are the problem. White people get caught up in their own pride (or worse straight up malevolence) and refuse to even acknowledge that they benefit from the harm of others. I don’t like it, but I cannot ignore the fact that all my life I have benefited from the harm to black people. I am given an oxygen mask and am immune to many of the toxins created by the fire of racism.
Unfortunately, many countries, but particularly the United States, were built upon bigotry and exploited the very people who were responsible for their prosperity. Countries built themselves using the unwitting and unpaid labor, the uncredited innovation, and the blood of black people as fodder so they could blaze brightly and gain power in the world. The U.S. used these things to become a hegemon (and has been trying to hold onto that deteriorated status by pushing against any peaceful efforts of promoting change for the marginalized. Thus, resulting in the glorification of imperialism). These countries became prosperous using exploitative means and don’t care if certain people die (which you can see magnified in pursuits such as war, which, like domestic racism, is accepted particularly by the privileged.)
The U.S. defense budget is over $700 billion, showing that if the government wanted to, they have the money to enact policies that would fix structural injustice in the United States. Imagine if even a fraction of that money went to the United States protecting its own people instead of trying to spread its toxic fire to others. Conversely, the United States engages in wars that are racist and done in the name of pursuing good (but allow gross acts of evil that yet again are justified because of societal poison). Though, that’s a problem of its own. The point is that change could have happened long ago if white people were willing, but putting out the racism fire would require significant shifts in societal structures, structures which the privileged want to keep in place to maintain their privilege.
Fire can be a destructive force, but it is vital to the survival of humanity, and the key is building fires that build a better future and turn the past into ashes, ashes that memorialize the racism of our past but kill the racism of our future. Those who have done wrong must be punished because the lives that have been lost can not be given back. The past will never go away, but we aren’t doomed to keep repeating it and keep hurting people with such brutality and malice. Murdering people is not acceptable; yet, the bright, toxic fire of racism has blinded the privileged into thinking that killing people— not just through blatant acts of murder but in a myriad ways black people are destroyed in America, including areas such as medical care, education, careers, and emotional health— is acceptable. Killing or failing to provide people’s emotional or physical needs is not acceptable. Not letting people function equally in society is not acceptable. Making people feel unsafe and unloved is not acceptable. Most of these ideas are things that people learn in kindergarten, but with the horrific fire of racism still blazing, privileged people fail to see their complicity.
I, of course, still have much to learn. In many ways, I am still complicit because I am still privileged and racism has infiltrated all areas of engagement in life. But I hope to continue to learn more about the issues black people face. I hope to open my ears and listen to the pain of my fellow humans. Finally, I hope to look beyond the raging fire of racism so that the oxygen I so easily receive can be received by all other people just as easily. Life shouldn’t be a privilege, and a country worth anything should make it easy for all people to breath and build fires that warm all people and allow them to be the best they can be.
TLDR: As a privileged person, I benefit from the harm of others, but I support the BLM movement and the protestors who are fighting to make this country a place worth living in. Racism has deep roots, but that doesn’t mean we have to let it keep happening. It’s time for the privileged let those who are not privileged live because those in power shouldn’t be able to say who should live or die. Murder should be murder no matter who the victim is.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review
Tumblr media
It's been 42 years now since we were first introduced to massive blockbuster franchise Star Wars in 1977. Created by George Lucas it has become one of the greatest pieces of science fiction in history and one of the most popular franchises of all time spawning billions of fans world wide thanks to it's fun action, unforgettable adventures, tear jerking moments and best of all....it's lovable relatable characters. Such as Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker the brave selfless Jedi, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia the strong independent rebel, Harrison Ford as Han Solo the scoundrel with a heart of gold and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca the hulking yet gentle giant Wookie. Over the last 40 years the franchise has had the prequel movie trilogy, Graphic Novels, comic books, TV shows and countless video games. But now this decade we have the “Sequel Trilogy” which is the new Star Wars movies set 30 years after “Return of the Jedi”. The trilogy focuses on the remnants of the Empire now known as “The First Order” trying to conquer the galaxy and the Resistance lead by General Leia trying to stop them.
The Sequel Trilogy has gotten something of a mixed reception from the fans and critics since the release of “Force Awakens” some people like them and some hate them but overall everyone can agree their not as good as the original trilogy. But overall the trilogy has done a great job in introducing and building it's new characters like Rey the scavenger turned Jedi, Finn former Stormtrooper who defected to the resistance and Po ace pilot and cocky rebel. The trilogy also brings us a new villain Kylo Ren leader of the Knights of Ren and son of Han and Leia who shows no mercy and uncontrollable rage. The movies also use the original cast like Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie.
But were getting off track. Were here to talk about the newest instalment and final movie for the Skywalker story line....Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The film picks up after “The Last Jedi” where Kylo Ren is now the supreme leader of The First Order after killing “Snoke” and now seeks to conquer the galaxy and destroy anything that stands in his way. While the resistance continues to fight for freedom and peace in the galaxy....Rey tries to bring balance to the force. After the controversial and hugely discussed Last Jedi the fans are divided on what has become of the franchise. Mainly due to the massive backlash over Luke Skywalker's death and the many hated characters that were introduced in Last Jedi. However I can truly say that from the bottom of my heart.....that Rise of Skywalker is....the best Star Wars movie since Empire Strikes back! It was exciting, action packed, tear jerking, full of twists and turns, had great character arcs and truly did the franchise justice. I'll be honest there were times that I shed a tear in both excitement and sadness. Yep it's that amazing. This film was without a doubt the perfect way to end the Skywalker Story and end with a bang.
But that's just my opinion every Star Wars has always had their own crazy views and thoughts on all Star Wars material. Overall “Rise of Skywalker” is entertaining and provides answers to some questions raised in the last 2 movies but there are some plot holes and new characters who don't make much of an impact as the old ones which leads to the conclusion that the studio didn't have any of these movies as well planned out as expected but then again most franchises aren't. So there new movies are nowhere near as legendary as the original trilogy by George Lucas but still have a lot of heart and ambition.
Ever since Disney took over....the Star Wars franchise has been changed forever...but above all has divided the most of the fans. For example ever since the they cancelled the Clone Wars TV in exchange for Star Wars Rebels which was more family friendly has sparked outrage due to the fact that a lot of fans preferred the Clone Wars more mature and darker take on the franchise. Well I can't blame them since sometimes it's good for a franchise to mature with it's audience and to have more mature themes and darker story lines. Most of which were used for the Knight of the old Republic and Force Unleashed games as well as the Clone Wars TV series and comic books. Sadly how ever since Disney bought the rights most of the “Star Wars Extended Universe” has been declared non-canon. This was created after the original trilogy to continue the stories of Luke, Leia, Han and the rest of the characters as well as introducing new characters through comic books, novels, video games and other media. However since acquiring the Star Wars media Disney has removed most of these stories from canon. This has really been a major disappointment to the older Star Wars fans. But honestly why did they have to do this I can't see why most of the Extended universe and canon can't fit together. So in conclusion this new generation of Star Wars media has divided the fan base and it may never be whole again.
The Star Wars franchise's strongest suit has always been it's characters. Rey played by (Daisy Ridley) the young woman who has evolved from the lonely orphan scavenger to a strong, independent, no nonsense Jedi that has become one of the best female leads in Star Wars history like Leia, Padme and Bastila. Having been trained by Luke him self she has become a powerful, strong and the last Jedi. Daisy Ridley really works hard on bringing this character to life and earns respect for it.
Finn former stormtrooper played by John Boyega has really developed as a character since he defected from the first order and tried to run away from the war. Since then he has become the team's moral compass and greatest soldier who is always willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good which he has done many times. Proving that not all stormtroopers or first order soldiers are there by choice and just want to do whats right.
Po fighter and the greatest pilot in the resistance has really stepped us from being a background character from Force Awakens to a fun relatable hot head that will go to extreme and crazy lengths to end the war and save the galaxy. Oscar Isaac really does a great in portraying the cocky, stubborn yet brave pilot.
Chewbacca aka Chewie the iconic Wookie and Han Solo's best friend returns. Chewie is one of the most beloved characters in the franchise due to hulking size, gentle personality, fierce loyalty and iconic roar. He has appeared in over 7 Star Wars movies and can be found in a lot of the SW extended universe media due to a Wookie's long life span of 400 years and Chewie is only 200 in Return of the Jedi.
Carrie Fisher returns one more time to play the strong wise leader of the resistance Leia Organa. Princess Leia rebel and sister of Luke Skywalker. Leia has become Sci-Fi royalty in both the Star Wars universe and science fiction itself she has evolved from the Damsel in distress to a strong tough female character that still has a soft side as well as the iconic haircut. Following actress' tragic death in 2016 the studio had to take a few liberties but even with these restrictions they were still able to give give the character a perfect send off. It was the best way they could have done it and it's what Carrie deserved.
The film's main villain Kylo Ren returns this time with The Knights of Ren who the movies have only mentioned. While Adam Driver does a great job in portraying this Sith villain he has gotten something of a mixed reception from the fans and the critics. Some dislike the characters portrayal as a moody, arrogant and whiney teenager. Others like him mainly for his badass mask design and his cross guard lightsaber. But overall he doesn't quite live up to the villainy expectations of Darth Vader, Maul, Revan or any of the other Sith lords we've seen throughout the years. While some like the character and others don't he still has his redeeming qualities like his mentioned cross guard lightsaber and new battle damaged mask.
Final Verdict: So in conclusion not all the fans are gonna be happy...so people are gonna like this movie and some are not. But that's what the fans have always been like since the beginning and it's what makes them so unique. SO wether or not this film was able to stick the landing of 40 years of story telling is entirely up to the viewer. But for me the film was awesome!
Final Score: 9/10

BLOODSHOT Shows Superhero Fans What They've Been Missing
Tumblr media
The release of Bloodshot #1 is fast approaching, giving the unkillable antihero another chance to make an (action-packed) first impression with a new wave of comic readers. And believe us, the first issue is all they'll need to see exactly why Valiant's star supersoldier is in a league of his own.
From his debut appearance, the premise of Bloodshot has sold itself: an experimental soldier injected with billions of nano-machines giving him super-healing, shape-shifting, tech-mastery, and more. When Tim Seeley (G.I. Joe) was announced to be bringing the '90s action superhero to life in this relaunch, with artist Brett Booth (The Flash) returning alongside, it seemed the perfect pairing to capture the attitude and energy Bloodshot is built for. The debut issue does just that, and with the Bloodshot movie on the horizon--sure to send droves of Vin Diesel fans in search of Bloodshot comics--Valiant's timing couldn't be better.
RELATED: Vin Diesel Shares First BLOODSHOT Movie Photo Online
The first issue, coming September 24th, will be continuing Bloodshot's ongoing struggle to break free from his implanted memories and military service, as opposed to rebooting the character or storyline whole cloth. But readers won't need to know much before diving in, since the story begins at a watershed moment for its supersoldier star. Done taking orders or committing black ops for reasons far above his pay grade, Bloodshot is looking to help those in need. Understandably, he proves so effective at wiping out the opposition that he's popped onto the radar of another shadowy organization looking to end him, permanently. But when you're impossible to shoot, stab, burn, or blow up... that's going to be easier said than done.
Tumblr media
In all honesty, it's hard to think of another first issue so clearly determined to demonstrate how much of an active, fearless, and effective badass its hero is in almost any situation (but let's be clear: NOT unbeatable). That may be down to Seeley's writing, most effective when imagined it being spoken past a well-chewed cigar. It may also have Booth, Corona, and Dalhouse to thank for bringing that attitude in the artwork, which is as high-paced, chaotic, and undeniably slick from start to finish. Or perhaps, as both Seeley and Booth have suggested in the past, it's Bloodshot who deserves the credit for being the mile-a-minute maniac they're simply adapting.
Speaking about the reboot during a Valiant fan panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Seeley did suggest that the similarities between Bloodshot and beloved stories like The Terminator and Robocop go deeper than just the action. While the sci-fi philosophy has been more or less explored depending on the creative team, Seeley reminded fans that Bloodshot embodies the blurring line between human and technology. Of course, Bloodshot #1 will reassure any fans fearing the series is more 'cerebral' than celebratory, when it comes to its glut of over-the-top violence and action.
Feeling more like the opening sequence of a high-concept, high-octane action movie than an introduction to a superpowered star, it's safe to say both old fans and newcomers will be wishing this first issue was twice the size (or that the wait for Issue #2 was half as long). With the premise and personality made perfectly clear from the outset, we can't wait to see what Seeley, Booth, and the rest of the team have in store.

COVID-19: Parents within the DailyKhaleej staff share their ‘StayHome’ experiences
Parents within the DailyKhaleej group share their StayHome expertise Picture Credit score: Seyyed Llata, Senior Designer
Dubai: Little has been stated about the impact of coronavirus motion restrictions upon youngsters, however keep in mind they’ve been couped up inside longer than the adults what with college breaking apart nearly a full three weeks earlier than the work-from-home directive got here. DailyKhaleej staff with children took the alternative to share their observations on how this was affecting their youngsters, and past compelling insights into how they had been making it work (or not) in addition they shared their solutions to taking the edge off the stress of being hemmed in and confronted with a deluge of homework.
Grin and bear it
By Ashley Hammond, UAE Editor
Enslaved to an endless stream of labor in an surroundings the place you are supposed to be at your most relaxed. Sure, working from residence hasn’t simply entrapped the adults, but in addition the youngsters too, and to say that I’ve observed its carrying impact on the behaviour of my two daughters aged seven and 5 is considerably of an understatement.
The eldest, who’s often so placid, has grown much more ill-tempered, sarcastic and defiant, and the youngest, who was anyway a free spirit, has simply blossomed at the alternative to unleash her wrath upon something that stands in her method.
Each are bored, jaded and disillusioned with e-learning, and the two individuals they had been meant to show to for some respite on this – their dad and mom – have needed to rework into makeshift lecturers in a single day, who match research round their personal career-demands.
It doesn’t work and also you eternally really feel such as you’re not doing each facet justice.
Watching my youngest interact in the first zoom assembly between her classmates after almost six weeks aside was devastatingly unhappy as she was simply silenced into awe at the sight of their faces, and if my eldest may slouch anymore in her chair throughout these interactions she could be parallel.
I’m grateful for these moments although, as a result of regardless of the stress, door slamming and blood curdling screams – not all of that are from me – they’ve made me realise what’s most necessary.
– Ashley Hammond, UAE Editor
It might be that I haven’t been absolutely listening to their wants, and it is a golden alternative to right that. Additionally with everybody backed right into a nook, the true characters of my children are popping out. I’m amazed by their sudden wit and improvement, their feelings and reactions, and the way they’re basically smaller variations of myself. I don’t see this when I’m at work, and the pained expression on our beloved nanny’s face is now considerably explainable. I don’t understand how we’re going to repair this, it’s tough, however we’re going to get by way of it.
At the finish of the day we simply stick on the music channel and dance, and that’s what is seeing us by way of.
Technique to the insanity
By Nilanjana Javed, Digital Content material Editor
It has been greater than six weeks now since distant studying began and kids are experiencing an entire new idea of being schooled from residence.
The enforced time at residence will be bittersweet. My son, who’s in yr eight and my daughter in yr 4, run a good schedule. They begin their college day at 9am and finish at 2pm with common breaks.
We attempt to preserve a routine in order that it’s simpler for them as nicely.
Throughout traditional college days they get up by 6am to attend their morning video games and actions however now their habits have modified fairly a bit. They get up precisely 10 minutes earlier than the class begins!
Some days are actually lazy and so they log in from their beds earlier than slowly struggling to get on to their research desk. I see they’ve change into lazy.
They do attempt to sustain with their college schedule, finishing one exercise after one other, however on some days there’s an excessive amount of display screen time what with on-line tutoring, and use of tablets and telephones. With social distancing changing into a norm over the weekend they join with their pals nearly to play on-line video games or generally even to speak. We do play indoor video games as a household collectively after which there’s supper time and story studying earlier than going to mattress.
Throughout colleges days my son who loves his sports activities and performs cricket and swims for his college and golf equipment would return residence after taking his lesssons at 8pm. Exhausted, he would go to mattress. With homeschooling he’s attempting to make use of the further time for productive issues like studying find out how to cook dinner. We even lately purchased desk tennis gear simply to divert his thoughts.
Nevertheless, I’ve observed that the siblings do have their honest share of fights and get moody generally.
Like many dad and mom I’m frightened about the “psychological and emotional health” of my youngsters.
My son feels with elevated class assignments, it’s more durable to ask questions since there’s no method to nearly increase your hand. It’s more durable for them to focus at residence as there’s nobody to self-discipline them.
– Nilanjana G. Javed, Digital Content material Editor
For us as dad and mom, working from residence and supporting their schoolwork will not be straightforward as we now have our personal deadlines.
Each of them now all of the sudden miss their lecturers need again their college environmemt.
I assume they’ve had an overdose of parenting.
My daughter acquired very emotional when her classed wished her Joyful Birthday on google hang around and he or she was not in a position to hug her lady gang.
I hope all of us again to our nomal life quickly.
Beginning to really feel the pressure
By Omar Shariff, Worldwide Editor
E-learning, adopted by homework, and quite a lot of hours on PlayStation. That, give or take, is the each day routine of my first two youngsters. The stay-at-home coverage is the solely method to beat the pandemic till a vaccine is developed. However there isn’t a denying that it’s taking a toll on individuals’s psychological and bodily well-being, particularly of kids.
General, the boys, Faisal, 13, and Farhan, 10, are holding up remarkably nicely, contemplating that they’ve been locked inside the home longer than their dad and mom. They haven’t stepped out of the constructing entrance for greater than 45 days. Nevertheless, the pent-up youthful power, which is often let off in the college playground or the constructing pool or the neighbourhood park, is usually being channelled into hitherto uncommon bodily tussles amongst themselves and erratic behaviour. Their main stress-reliever is their child brother Fahad, 1, who’s blissfully unaware of the insidious pandemic that’s turning the world the wrong way up.
Trendy communications expertise has made stay-at-home immeasurably extra bearable. Think about our scenario if the coronavirus had hit the globe even 20 years earlier! The E-learning platform has enabled youngsters to proceed their education. However it’s a poor substitute for the classroom.
– Omar Shariff, Worldwide Editor
Even earlier than I log in to begin work each morning, the children are up, with their newly-acquired tablets, signed into Microsoft Groups. The elder one is sort of unbiased, good with expertise and never simply distracted. The second appears to not take this e-learning course of severely. His manner is that of somebody for whom the trip continues to be on, albeit with the inconvenience of constructing an look in entrance of the trainer every day for a number of hours. However he’s receptive after we remind him that, for the foreseeable future, that is college.
In the debate about the dramatic adjustments the coronavirus outbreak has delivered to the each day lives of billions round the world, the problem of kids has been given reduce prominence than it deserves. Maybe it is because of the notion that the pandemic primarily impacts adults, each when it comes to an infection and the financial injury it’s inflicting.
Sleepless nights
By Sara Al Shurafa, Senior Information Editor
Locked inside the home for two-and-a-half months, my youngster is getting increasingly more tense.
It has flipped her world the wrong way up.
She is afraid of one thing that she is aware of can harm her family members, however her little mind doesn’t perceive what this “virus” is.
She began waking up in the evening, scared, and won’t return to sleep till I lie down together with her. My pal’s son went again to wetting his mattress.
These youngsters have regressed, that’s how they’re reacting to the uncertainties round them.
House education can be including to these uncertainties.
Right this moment, I’d have most well-liked to have informed my daughter that summer time trip began two months early somewhat than take her by way of digital studying.
She is unsure and it doesn’t matter what I’ll say, she continues to be confused. Is that this college, are these my pals? After 4 weeks of distant studying she is dropping curiosity. This week my daughter didn’t take note of a phrase her trainer stated, I attempted all the pieces I may consider, however she wouldn’t be engaged. After I was chatting with the father of one other youngster about the trials of homework, he stated his daughter was going by way of the same lack of curiosity.
They’re 4 years outdated, how lengthy are you able to anticipate them to stay whereas sitting in entrance of a display screen? They’re imagined to be experimenting and exploring, constructing their motor expertise and creating their cognitive expertise… in different phrases, being bodily current and lively.
– Sara Al Shurafa, Senior Information Editor
It turns into worse when my daughter doesn’t perceive a lesson on Zoom, she turns into offended and pissed off and it takes one other day or two to get her re-acquainted with the course of.
Some days she wakes up offended, screams and shouts at all the pieces. She refuses to do issues that she as soon as did fortunately. Consuming, showering and taking part in have all grew to become triggers for her tantrums.
My newest ordeal, for previous week now, is her insomnia. She is stuffed with power and regardless of how a lot I push her mattress time, she cries herself to sleep each evening, saying, ‘but am not tired’. All evening she’s going to twist and switch; my daughter will not be getting deep sleep as a result of her physique will not be drained.
My pal’s son is the similar and he or she has began to present him some homeopathy medicines. I’m beginning to assume I’ll go down that path, too, particularly since I’m drained and I would like a whole evening of sleep.
The opposite irritating half for me is that we missed the good climate, and now we are going to most likely spend most our summer time in the home too.
Wrestling will get us by way of it
By Seyyed Llata, Senior Designer
I’ve heard many individuals are fighting the quarantine, but at residence, we’ve had fairly an excellent time. I do know it comes with a privileged place, our place is large and we now have issues that make quarantine simpler.
My sons’ age hole additionally performs to our benefit, as the eldest is already an grownup, 22 years outdated, and the youngest is simply seven.
Our formulation has been a primary of cooking and consuming collectively, PS4, conversations and, consider it or not, a each day session of “Lucha Libre”, Mexican wrestling.
The day begins with breakfast and faculty for the youngest, and work for me and the eldest, we take intermittent Ps breaks throughout the day, so till 2pm we’re fairly busy.
Then we determine what to eat, and that could be a nice time, as a result of I hardly ever have the likelihood for lunch with them, and to spoil them with some good do-it-yourself meals.
At lunch, we take our time and we TALK, I’ve the rule of no devices at the desk, so we are able to handle feelings, occasions, tales, jokes, and tales.
– Seyyed Llata
After lunch, it is a little more work for me and Ps been a lifesaver, I can’t emphasise sufficient that getting good video games is an funding for everyone’s psychological well being, and if you need the much less attainable fights, get video games that may be performed in multiplayer mode, ask your children, they are going to know what which means.
Fights can occur with the healthiest and extra loving individuals for those who lock them down collectively for an extended time frame, however as head of the household it’s your accountability to stay calm, and speak in the similar style.
Afternoon snacks come helpful, to interrupt tensions, and speak as soon as extra, hear their pursuits and considerations, your youngsters have these at any age, pay attention rigorously.
And at last, when the night comes, we put on Mexican Wrestlers masks and we blow some steam at the lounge, ‘boys will always be boys’ will not be a misguided assertion, we “fight” till all that amassed power goes away, is a method of very shut bonding and I do advocate it as remedy for all ages and gender, after all with excessive warning.
All the time see the constructive facet
By Alex Abraham, Senior Affiliate Editor
It’s been greater than a month since my son and I’ve been sitting throughout the eating desk for at the very least eight hours every single day, because of the efforts in place to beat the coronavirus. We agreed on this place in order that I may hold a watch out on the teenager who will, hopefully, write his Grade 10 board exams subsequent yr. I’ve all the time believed that parental regulation and oversight is a should for all youngsters with digital devices.
There’s lots to check nowadays. And after his common hours of interplay with the lecturers and college students at school through Microsoft Groups, there are tuition lessons for maths and science through the Zoom app.
Unable to exit to play or meet up with pals, my son has now accepted the proven fact that that is actuality. Gone are the days when he would ask me if he may go down to satisfy his pals for a couple of minutes or accompany me to the grocery store. His closest pal is the iPad with which he spends most of his waking day. Even over the weekends, there are not any requests to exit to the mall. A few hours in entrance of the tv is the solely supply of leisure. I assume my son is sufficiently old to know the seriousness of the scenario.
There are common conversations over the eating desk – of what’s occurring round the world, at school and the way we have to handle our well being.
– Alex Abraham, Senior Affiliate Editor
Nevertheless, regardless of common encouragement to undertake some type of train at residence, this isn’t happening. With out having to get able to catch the college bus at 6.45am, and journey to and from college, I’ve observed a way of lethargy creeping in. I’m uneasy considering of my son’s bodily health in September when he’s anticipated to get again to high school.
On the constructive facet, as a household we’re in a position to spend far more time collectively, now that I, too, am working from residence.
I’ll get pleasure from this whereas it lasts.
