"I went about it systematically. After serving an apprenticeship in a machine shop, I studied metalwork and carpentry before I figured I was ready to start building. Then I built a train to one-eighth scale. The engine and the tender combined was seven feet long and operated on coal and water, like the ones I had known as a news butcher. I fashioned all the cars myself. The boxcars were big enough for a person to straddle, and the flatcars could seat two. My special pride was the caboose, which I furnished entirely in miniature, right down to the pot-bellied stove. The engine was designed after one that had run on the old Central Pacific, so I named my little railroad the CP, for Carolwood Pacific, the street I lived on." -Walt, Railroad Magazine, October 1965 #waltdisney #walt #disney #railroadmagazine #railroad #modelrailroad #miniature #waltwednesday (at Holmby Hills, Los Angeles) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch7vd9Fp3uS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
There's a model train show in nearby Xenia, OH this weekend. If you're a railfan you might want to peruse our selection of train books & classic model railroad magazines. These two looks into railroad history have just been added to our shelves!
New additions to the layout. Utility building to represent a town hall, some septic trucks and a New Look Bus. Bus will get put out when I expand the table. Eventually. A dream come true. Here’s my very own RGS #40 on the Del Oro Pacific modular railroad. I’ve had a blast running trains all day on their railroad, and to be honest it never got old. I’ve met so many new faces, it’s really been a pleasure. My good friend Tom Patterson has a video of my exact train running : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwLjEWpBzlU&t=298s

Poor Sylvia Meisner. Sylvia disappeared from Maple Valley almost a year ago. Poor Sylvia Meisner. She has missed so much in her little home town. Folks still talk about her. There are a few who believe they know what happened to her. Most don’t pay any attention to them, which makes the believers even more sure they know the truth.

Jim Wanlass' Bronx Terminal on the Central Railroad of New Jersey HO Scale Module
Apr 21, 2024 #modelrailroad #hoscaletrains #modelrailroader
Jim Wanless from the Opher Tintic and Western Model Railroad Club is building the Bronx Terminal on the Central Railroad of New Jersey as an HO Scale Module.
It's an exact recreation of the prototype with no changes or compression with one major exception; He's moved it to the San Francisco Bay area.
The Central Railroad of New Jersey operated in the New York area, in this case, the Bronx, and built this unusual circular freight house in 1907 on the Harlem River at Third Avenue. Because of the tight space, they created this compact freight terminal which worked well with 40-foot center-door boxcars. A major problem is that it didn't work with longer boxcars, even the 50-foot cars. NO MATTER! Jim has total control over the facility!
Much of the freight arrived on rail barges from the Harlem River. Jim is modeling two such barges and the float bridge offloading system. There is also some complex trackwork and two overhead cranes.
Because Jim is from the Bay Area in California moved the facility there on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Jim!! Are palm trees coming?? Sorta hope not!
