Whenever someone tells a hermit to show up in their "best dress" they show up in an actual dress and absolutely rock it.
They've all got at least one for special occasions. Doesn't matter which hermit, they all rock a dress.

Vex have a lot of bat-like qualities, as the hermits have come to learn. Some examples include:
-cub frequently sleeps upside down
-scar gets zoomies (reaching speeds of 100 mph while flying)
-like many other communal player-hybrids, they can get VERY clingy with those they perceive as part of their colony
-they’re bitey :3

Skizzekai Community AU
Welcome to the land of Hermiton, a world saturated with magic in the very ground and air itself. In this AU, the hermits are adventurers, rulers of kingdoms, merchants, and more, all in the setting of a medieval-ish fantasy world. As with past community AUs, the contributions of all you headcanoners will be the driving force. But as a framework to build off, here's a summary of the key points in play at the start of our story.
THE MAGIC
Magic flows through everything in this world, with different types of it being most prevalent in different regions. The most dominant type of magic tends to be absorbed by native plants and animals, changing them to fit, so an area saturated in fire magic would be populated by fiery creatures. This includes sapient species- there are no humans in this world, but there is a staggering variety of fantastical races. Most creatures simply channel their magic through inherent traits, like enhanced speed or a breath weapon, but sapient species can additionally shape and direct their own magic for use as spells, learning and growing their skill with practice. Magical crafting and alchemy is also possible, by using the magical properties inherent in everything from a dragon's scales to the smallest of plants.
THE WORLD
Although independent towns and unclaimed land do exist, most of the world is split up into kingdoms, each one with a different magical specialty from the most dominant type of magic within their borders. One example is the kingdom ruled by Joel Smallishbeans, a king recently ascended to semi-godhood from the belief of his people and the application of his own powerful magic. The magic of this kingdom is that of fate and stories, prophecy and lore, and a recent prophecy has been particularly interesting. They say a hero must be summoned from another world, and that they will be needed to defeat a great evil.
THE SKIZZ
And here comes the titular character. Skizz Leman, a completely normal human from Earth, is brand new to this world. He's just been summoned by a man who calls himself a god, told he's the chosen one, and sent out to save the world. He has no idea how to do that.
As for the roles of other Hermits, the magic they might specialize in and the species they may be- that is all up to you! Assuming you've read the guidelines (under the cut), the fate of this AU lies in the hands of the inbox. Happy headcanoning!
Rules and guidelines:
- The end date will be announced later, when the AU feels like it has hit a natural stopping point. A post announcing the end will be made a day in advance of the inbox closing.
- After the AU closes, any remaining asks will still be posted, and discussion on the discord is still encouraged!
- Canonicity of submissions will be taken on a first come, first serve basis. If a later submission contradicts an earlier one, it will be considered an alternate and not part of the "main" AU canon.
- Alternates will be posted with [ALTERNATE] text. They will all still be posted, every idea should be seen, and discussion of alternates is encouraged on their own posts and on the discord.
- Au-related art and writing is strongly encouraged! Please tag hermitcraftheadcanons in your posts if you would like us to see and reblog it.
- Non-AU-related headcanons are still accepted, but will not be posted until all the Skizzekai asks are cleared out.
Thank you all for being understanding and patient about these rules. If you need clarification, feel free to ask.

It’s no secret that many of the hermits are extremely powerful creatures. Players as old as the universe itself, sentient mobs, minor deities, beings made of the void, glitches in the code—they’re a dangerous and powerful bunch.
Despite this the hermits don’t strike most as dangerous or somebody to be feared (unless said hermit is Doc, anybody with half a mind would at least be cautious of him), they’re often underestimated because of their typically laid back and goofy attitudes and behaviour. Underestimating them and provoking them has never gone well for anybody.
Occasionally even the hermits forget that their companions are beings that could tear apart their code and permakill them in a blink of an eye. They remind each other of this fact through empty threats or allowing the magic keeping their appearance more ‘normal’ to slip. There have been competitions on the server before to determine who is the scariest, strongest, etc. The time between the competitions is spent trying to figure out how to best the previous winner, they’re competitive people! There’s no reason behind the competitions other than it’s fun and gives them an excuse to let loose and embrace what they are.

All of the Hermits (save one) are willing to bite. Sometimes it's just what happens during PvP, sometimes they just get annoyed, some of them are Creatures for whose species this is normal behaviour.
Some Hermits have more dangerous bites than others. Ren's bites carry lycanthropy, but that's easily curable in the early stages. Doc's teeth can bite through anything, Joel's ogre fangs can leave a hole all the way through someone's arm, and Mumbo's bites might result in a bit of soul damage - but healing potions, regen, and respawn are a thing. It's not a big deal.
The one Hermit who doesn't bite? Cleo. A player who dies while infected with the zombie plague will both respawn AND hang around as a zombie. The universe does not like having two copies of the same person active on the same server at the same time. It causes all kinds of problems - problems which can be fixed, but which aren't easy to fix.
So, Cleo doesn't bite. It's tempting, but it's really not worth the hassle. (Or the angry yelling from a tired, frustrated Doc who has just had to delve into the depths of the server's code to remove the extra player copy without hurting the actual player.)

I've seen eldritch Watcher Grian who got stranded on Hermitcraft and also got twisted beyond any player's nature into something morbid and need to re-learn how to be human again but
What about Pearl
What if she somehow glitched into the season 7 of Hermitcraft server, the upside-down mansion in the nether specifically. And her watcher abilities shift the terrain and made it so that when people walk inside the mansion they can actually walk upside down.
So to the person it seems fairly normal but to outsider it looks like the person is walking on the ceiling.
Bdubs being Bdubs, who was tasked to design the mansion's interior, see Pearl and her weird magic, has the impression that “Ah, must've been one of Grian's antic.” And proceed to befriend Pearl despite the language barrier between common and galactic
It is not In fact, Grian's doing.
Grian is also surprised when he see it. A bit panicked because obviously that is a watcher what is it doing here??
The longer time he spent with Pearl, the more she felt... Familiar to him. They can communicate thankfully, because Grian is also a Watcher.
Eventually Grian finds out the creature is Pearl, but before he could tell her about it the Watcher found him (through the crack Pearl made within their firewalls) and dragged him with a few other hermits to Third Life as punishment. (Turn out, sensing the magic of her tormentor help jogs the buried memory)
Safe to say when Grian come back Pearl didn't let him leave her nest.
This Is longer than I thought it would sorry

Skizz is human, in a world with no humans in it. A world so saturated in magic that every plant and animal and the air itself is full of it. Why should he be an exception? It's a few weeks in, while he's traveling with Zed, Impulse and Tango, when he first feels it. A strange tingling in his chest and at his fingertips, almost electric but not quite. Is it just nerves? Probably. It's making it hard to sleep, and so is the suspicious ache from his back.
Skizz is human, but he might not stay that way.

Queen Cleo leads an empire of the undead. Zombies like herself, skeletons, ghouls, you name it! They have a neighbor in Joe, a half-ghost, one of the rarest species in the kingdoms (besides humans, of course). He is known not as a king or prince or lord, but as He Who Hath Conquered Death.

Gem is a drowned - a catchall term for aquatic and/or fishlike undead. She pays her allegiance to Queen Cleo, but she is not of their empire, not completely. Her real home is the sea.

Zedaph's a bit of mystery at first. He seems to be a completely normal alchemist--a little odd, a little offputting, but Skizz takes nicely to him and his brews, especially after a harming potion helps get him out of a sticky situation. But no one else seems anywhere near as confortable with him; Tango's flames blaze up at a mention, Impulse says his name like he's some sort of god, and Grian--powerful enough in his own right--shies away from his touch.
Skizz isn't bothered by this, until he's brought to near-death by the villain and wakes up on the back of a soft pink sheep, Zedeath peering into his eyes.
It turns out Zedaph's the apprentice of Death Himself, and he's quite fascinated with Skizz's appearance in Hermiton. He has the ability to bring people back from the dead--plus some luck magic, granted to him by Tango, who he saved from hypothermia a few years back, and reality distortion, which was his usual magic before he got apprenticed. In exchange for being brought back to life, Zedaph gives him a list of near-impossible tasks for Skizz to complete, and if he fails, Skizz joins his collection of souls.
When Skizz completes them using faery-esque tricks, luck, and the help of the Hermits, Zedaph is honestly impressed, and gives Skizz a magical lamb as a present whose wool can heal any injuries if rubbed on the wound. It's named Wormy.

Gem used to be human, transported for the same reason as Skizz, and she changed to fit the world. When she figures out about Skizz being here she puts a bounty on his head. She cannot accept her failure.

Bdubs is the guardian of a dangerous and sprawling jungle, in order to gain safe passage through it, travellers must solve 3 of his very difficult, complicated and genius riddles... He'll let you through if you fail too, but he'll be gloating about how he outwitted you the whole time

Wels used to be a part of False's pirate crew, but he isn't a harpy. In fact, he looks human, but humans don't exist in this world... right? (He's actually a selkie, and he wears his seal skin as a cape, but he's perfectly content letting others think he's human.)

had a shower thought about false. she's a former pirate from a crew full of harpies. she knew that making a deal with the vex would result in her being possessed to a level; but she diddnt orginally guess that it would be to such a level that she really couldnt keep going with her crew without herting them; but while travling on land with the other convex she gets to challange others to duels for fun and glory; and the three of them freqently chart their travels to try and meet up with her former crew.
