“The Illusive Man gave me her dossier. He knew who we were picking up.” There was a steely edge to Shepard’s voice. She moved with the steady confidence of a predator, the interior lights outlining her form with an eerie glow. The fact that what used to be a slab of meat under the cold laboratory lamps now possessed such power and life, made Miranda feel captivated for a brief moment. Shepard stopped in front of her, glaring her down. “I’m playing the cards your boss gave me, so don’t try and tell me that I have free reign here.”

Fine. Miranda stood up, nearly matching Shepard’s height in her heels. “Pinning the blame is never a good look, Commander.”

Chapter 8 is out. Has been out for a couple days now.
