Any headcanons or maybe a blurb on Merman!Hawk and Merman!Demetri and how they treat their Pregnant!Mermaid!Reader mate.

Omg I love this!

They treat her like glass, but within good reason. When she starts to show and grows round, she swims slower through the water. They each swim on either side of her and hold her hands, keeping her with them whenever they go out. However, for the most part, she stays in their cave and they bring her food and other necessities.

Overprotective mer-dads? 1000%

If it were up to them, they wouldn't leave her at home alone, but they have to leave to hunt and work and other things. Demetri's work in the coral reefs is very important and Hawk is one of the strongest merman in their community, so they're needed elsewhere often. Reader tells them not to worry, but they always do.

More often than not, she goes to see her friends while they have to be away, so she's never really alone all that much. Not that anyone can tell Hawk and Demetri that, they're going to beat themselves up for "leaving her all alone" not matter what.

One would think they were leaving for a week's trip with how they act, but it's only for a day's work. Overprotective? more like overdramatic.

However, they can't help it. These two are just so excited to be having guppies! And with Reader, the prettiest mermaid they've ever met? They have to protect her and make her happy at all costs.

When they lay about with Reader, hands rubbing her taut belly, they talk about how happy they are. They tell her how much my appreciate her, sometimes getting into how they can't believe a pretty mermaid like her let the two of them mate with her. They also talk about how they want the guppies to be as pretty as she is, but Reader laughs and tells them that they're very handsome and she'd love it if the guppies looked like them instead.

That makes them shower her in kisses, from her head to her round belly, which gets the guppies riled up and squirming about. Hawk hold Reader while Demetri has to talk to and calm down the guppies. Demetri's voice is so soft and gentle, his big hands rubbing circles on Reader's skin as he talks to her belly. Hawk watches from over her shoulder, his own hands holding her lower belly, but staying stationary. He kisses her neck as she lays against him, smiling so happily.

This is all they've ever wanted, so of course they are going to make sure that Reader is happy as can be, treated well. Especially if they'd like to have more guppies in the future.

Demetri doesn’t tell anyone why.

He can feel Eli’s out there somewhere. Stranded on an island, snatched by pirates, living off a raft.

And Demetri’s going to search the depths of every ocean.

When a storm capsizes his ship, Demetri doesn’t expect to wake up on sand. An inky black eel tail is wrapped around him, a familiar face—now scale-speckled and adorned with a spiky blue crest—staring down.

Demetri grins. “Found you.”

Also not siren au related but siren related in a way? I have an OC called Nadja Demetriou and her personality is based off Cala Maria from the cuphead show. Her name comes from a character Cala Maria's va plays in what we do in the shadows and Demetriou is the last name of her va. She's a trader in the encanto and her origins are unknown but vaguely European. Its rumoured she collects jars of pickled souls, something she neither confirms nor denies

This popped into my head and I couldn't get it off of my mind, so here it is! (unedited)

Demetri loves explores and studying the coral reefs near his home. He doesn't travel far from home often if he cane help it, but to check in on a local reef is the exception. When he was young, he loved to poke in and out of the reefs, sometimes sit and watch the creatures there. He took notice of coral bleaching as a guppie and has been obsessed with fixing it ever since. It's what he's put his whole life into.

So when he's studying a reef one day and hears a boat approaching, he hides. He thinks its just passing by and will be gone soon, but he's a little startled when it stops not too far from the reef. It anchors and he gets the chance to see just how big it is, which actually isn't very much. Everything in his being is telling him to swim away and come back later, but the scientist in him is protective of the reef and wants to ensure the humans aren't going to bother it. So he tucks himself between some large rocks as best he can and observes.

For a few minutes, nothing happens. The boar just sits there, but as soon as Demetri thinks that no one is going to do anything, something jumps into the water. When the bubbles clear, he sees it's a human, but they're wearing some weird kind of clothes to cover their body; they have something over their eyes and in their mouth, a tank of some sort of their back, and odd shoes that look like horrible imitations of his fins.

Needless to say, he's never seen a diver before.

She's curvaceous and fills in her suit as it hugs her lumps and rolls. It smooths out some of her edges of only to make her faster in the water. It's little concern to her how she looks in the suit, though, as she is there for work and research, far more invested in the coral reef before her.

Reader swims over to the reef, but doesn't get too close to the delicate habitat. It should be colorful and vibrant, but unfortunately it's dull and nearly lifeless. Few fish are swimming through it and there's little activity among the reef. It breaks her heart, which is the exact reason she's there.

She takes her camera and starts getting pictures of everything she can. The sizes of the coral, the different species that are there, and especially the lack of color. As she carefully swims around the reef, she doesn't notice the eyes watching her every move.

Just as she's done with her pictures, she notices something laying on the ocean floor not too face away. As she gets closer to it, she realizes it's a dead piece of coral that has broken off from the reef. She gently picks it up and inspects it, brushing away the sand as it falls away. She decides to take it for further research, see if she can figure out how long its been dead and if there's anything new she can learn from it.

As she kicks herself off, she fails to realize her camera falls from it holder on her hip. It sinks to the ocean floor and lays on the sand, making a small dip in the sand with its weight. It's gleam shines Demetri in the eye and he covers his face for a moment.

When he looks up again, the mysterious human is climbing out of the water. He swims out of his hiding place, eyes on her boat for a long time as he slowly makes his way back over to the reef. But then he spots her camera in the sand and thinks to himself that it's a strange device. He picks it up and doesn't know if he likes it or not, turning it over in his hands as he tries to figure out what its for. He accidentally presses the capture buttons and takes a few pictures.

However, before he can make a final decision on the device, the water is disrupted again. He looks up and sees Reader has dove back in. He feels paralyzed with fear as he sees her again, and when the bubbles rise and clear, she freezes too.

Reader is struck by Demetri's mere existence. She's even more startled by his appearance; long and slender tail that shimmers green, his grey eyes locked on her as they stare, his thin yet slightly toned upper body, and his claw-like nails wrapped around her camera. He's a creature of magnificence and she's awestruck by him, but also a little scared. After all, she doesn't know what he's capable of.

On the other hand, Demetri is terrified. The many stories of how humans are bad and how they'll always hurt him if they find him come flooding his mind. He doesn't know what to do with himself, but as Reader stays where she's at, gently kicking her feet to stay afloat, he sees she's not monstrous like the stories make her out to be. The one device she brought with her isn't deadly. He's been playing with it for several minutes and it hasn't hurt him. She hasn't brought anything new with her.

She's also kind of cute? He didn't know humans could be so attractive, so curvy, with fat round cheeks and thick bodies. He's never really paid attention to humans, only to swim away and hide from them. But now that he's face to face with one... something's different.

He starts to swim over to her and she stays as still as she can, which isn't very much since she needs to keep herself afloat. She makes no moves to come at him or attack, which further affirms in his mind that she must be kind. He likes that about her, just as he's liked her gentleness with the coral reef and how she didn't get too close or scare any of its inhabitants.

Once he's right in front of her, he holds out her camera. She's hesitant to take it at first, still unsure of what he may do, but then grabs it from him gently. She offers a little smile from around her mouthpiece and her smiles back, showing off his little fangs. Again, she's awestruck and fascinated by him. She stares at him for a moment, taking in his finer details.

The small patches of scales on his cheeks, his gills as they flutter on his neck, the way his hair moves in the water. It's all enchanting and lovely to her.

For a moment, she isn't the scientist that rode out there for the coral reef. She's a little girl again, falling in love with the ocean for the millionth time. It's wonderful, even magical.

It's the start of something new and exciting. Something worth while.

All I see are these three on some rocks and their pretty human mate among them as they all just bask in the sun. They get her any and everything she wants, sometimes even things she doesn't ask for. They also spend this time just admiring Reader because they think she is the most beautiful person, human or mermaid, ever. They just love hanging out with her and hear her talk about her day, her hobbies, all the stuff she likes about human life.

Other than that, I can't come up with anything 🙈 I'm struggling with it.

○Reader reels these two in with her curiosity and courage, as well as her need for adventure. Hawk loves following her into random spaces along the ocean floor; sunken ships, sea caves, anywhere. Demetri loves watching her speculate about human things. He'll put in his two cents ever so often and they geek out over shiny things.

○They'll go out on their own and bring back treasures for her. Demetri won't go exploring without either of them though, so when they are looking for gifts, Hawk is always with him. They find all sorts of odds and ends for their pretty mermaid. Hawk gets so excited to show her what they found, they go straight to her to show it off and give the treasures to her.

○They once found a pretty jeweled necklace and gave it to her, though she only wears it on special occasions. That being said, they make special occasions happen all the time so that they can see her wearing the pretty necklace.

○On the other hand, when Reader gifts them chains and bracelets, Hawk and Demetri wear them all the time. She even made Hawk a shark tooth necklace and he wears it proudly. Demetri wears all the bracelets she finds, even though some of them aren't his style, but the more girly ones remind him of her and so he'll wear them and cherish them.

○They treat her like royalty. They answer her beck and call, serve her on hand and fin. But if they call her their queen, they're her kings and she wouldn't want it any other way.

○When she wants to go human watching, Demetri is vocally apprehensive. He is very protective over his mates and doesn't want anything bad to happen to them. He goes over all the worst case scenarios whilst following them to their favorite hiding spot to watch the humans from. Before he knows it, Hawk is telling him to be quiet and they're poking their heads out of the water to see what the humans are doing today.

○Where Demetri is protective from a fearful and tactical perspective, Hawk is fiercely protective of his mates and is not afraid to show aggression toward anyone or any creature threatening to harm them. Bares his teeth at any potential threat. And if one were to lay a hand on either of his mates, he's ready to claw at them until the water is red.

○In short, they'd do anything for her. Whether they like the ideas she has or not, or if it has more to do with protecting her adventures heart. Nothing is out of the question, they'd swim the lengths of every ocean for her. They love her after all, and love makes mermen do some crazy things 🤭

Mermay Elimetri Headcanons

Before Eli found his confidence, he always let Demetri do the talking. He would do his best to hide behind Demetri, making himself as small as possible because he didn't want the bigger merfolk to push him around. Demetri was at least imposing in height. Demetri never cared and tried to bow up to the bigger, meaner mermen when need be. His instinct to protect Eli was the only reason he put up with those numbskulls.

These two swam around their feelings for each other for a long time. It took Eli gaining his confidence before either of them admitted anything, but for a long tike it was their natural instinct that drove them to protect each other from dangerous waters.

When Eli finally grew confident in himself, Demetri was simultaneously stunned and scared. He didn't want to lose Eli to anyone else and if he were confident in himself, what would stop him from getting with a cute mermaid? A lot of pretty mermaids flocked to him and hoped to gain his affection once he got stronger and fitter.

With his newfound confidence, Eli's tail shined brighter. It shimmered such pretty colors now. It was spectacular and beautiful, a wonderful display and the perfect way to attract potential mates. He also started wearing necklaces and bracelets that caughg the light and shined in a way that accented his natural shimmer. Demetri would watch him swim and dance through the water, enchanted by him but also failing to realize that Eli was trying to impress him.

After a lot of showing off and courting gifts Demetri mistook as friendly gestures, Eli had enough and just kissed the fool. It was hard but got the point across. Before Demetri knew what was going on, they were making out on the ocean floor wrapped up in each other. And from that day on, they're truly inseparable.

Their relationship is a lot of explorations that Demetri only sometimes wants to go on. He doesn't like traveling far from home for fear of something bad happening. He was told too many stories as a guppy about human fishermen and their ships, so he's a little terrified to come across one. He doesn't want to found out by any humans. Eli is usually dragging him along for a little trip away to find some lost treasures.

Eli loves exploring sunken ships and Demetri hates it. There's plenty of old stuff to find but there's also too many sharp edges to get hurt on. They compromise that if Eli gets to go to an abandoned ship, they'll spend time doing something demetri likes for just as long. Usually this entails spending time in the coral reefs near their home because Demetri loves their colors and studying everything happening there.

I have some thoughts 🤔

Merman!Demetri is super cautious anytime he's near the surface or close to land. He believes the older merfolk when they say humans are dangerous and a threat to their kind. His mom told him cautionary tales about humans but they came off more like horror stories to his young mind.

For this reason, he doesn't like it when other merfolk drag him along to the surface. Hawk loves going under the boardwalk and listening to the humans above. Demetri absolutely hates it. The whole time, he is worried about getting caught and the humans hating him and so on. Hawk tells him to stop being a baby because the humans aren't that bad, but Demetri is skeptical.

He also hates going to the surface because his hair gets in his eyes. When he pops his head out of the water, his hair has retained so much water and it's all in his eyes and he has to push it away just so he can see. No, he will not cut it either. He likes it the way it is.

That's all I have at the moment 🤭

There are so many parallels!

Ephyra and Fry were bullied for similar reason as Eli and Demetri

Also there is something interesting about Ephyra being an outcast because she’s dangerous(jellyfish) and Eli becoming more dangerous because he was an outcast (anger issues and karate)

Ooh I love that dynamic.

When they're young, the little ephyra thinks Eli is so cute. She's too scared to get close to him because she doesn't want to accidentally sting him. So she keeps her distance.

As they get older, Eli grows more dangerous and adventurous. He gets sharp fangs and claw-like nails, which gets him a bit of an edge. And jellyfish mermaid!Reader falls for him even more as he swims through the water so proud. She hides just to watch him wrestle with other mermen and move big debris after huge storms.

Omg imagine Reader is getting hassled by big mean merman!Kyler and his goons. They've taken her bag and are throwing it between them like it's a ball. They're too fast and she can't catch it. As she's swimming around them, they're messing with her frilly tentacles, batting at them with their claws and slashing at her. It puts her out of balance, messing with her swim pattern and dangerously close to cutting up her pretty, frilly tentacles.

Hawk sees them and she's so disoriented. Kyler slashes one of her frills and she cries out. She comes to a complete stop and starts to pull herself in, cowering to them and it's obvious she's hurt.

In seconds, Hawk is swimming over and shoving Kyler away from her. He puts himself between him and Reader, angry and baring his fangs at the bully. "What is wrong with you?!"

It should be obvious that their claws could hurt her. So what if she can hurt them by stinging them with her tentacles? Her tentacles and exumbrella are still soft and delicate! 😡😡 they should know better

And Hawk is not backing down. He's ready to throw them around and show them just how much his claws hurt.

Meanwhile, octopus mermaid!Reader and Demetri are on the side. Demetri darts in and takes Jellyfish!Reader out of the middle of the tension that's about to snap. Octo!Reader tends to her bestie and consoles her. Demetri helps, making a makeshift bandage for her injured tentacle. As they work together to help the sweet Jellyfish!Reader, they keep stealing glances at each other but they're not really saying anything. It's cute.

Thinking about Overprotective Eli for the Elimetri mermay AU. Like Demetri gets kidnapped by some actually malicious humans who want him for something nefarious--sell him to a circus or aquarium, lock him in a tank for a "get rich quick" scheme, harpoon him and sell his scales on the black market--whatever you like. And the mermaid hunters are sailing away like "ha! We actually pulled that off and got a live one!" while Demetri is desperately trying to reason with them (very unsuccessfully, since he's basically just stress-rambling).

And then. AND THEN.

They feel something climbing up the side of the ship. So fast it's shaking the entire boat. AND THEN--

"Oh god oh fuck what IS that thing how is it squirming across the deck so fast oh god are why are its teeth so pointy oh shit are those CLAWS??? The other one had claws I think but they weren't that sharp I think and IS IT GONNA GORE US WITH THOSE PURPLE SPINES ON ITS HEAD???"

Whenever that ship docks, there's uh. Probably not much left of the crew.

Overprotective Eli is out for blood.

He's never had such a strong urge to tear into some humans in his entire life, but the moment he heard Demetri calling for him and saw his beloved being pulled out of the water, he's never wanted anything more than to spill human blood. He pulls himself up the side of the boat by sheer will power and the strength of a thousand mermen. He leave huse gouges in the side of the boat from his claws tearing into the metal and huge claw marks on the deck as he pulls himself over toward the crew.

He wreaks havoc on them, though, unapologetically. Whatever weapons or tool they may have and try to use against him are pathetic in his eyes. He slaps them out of their reach and has them begging for their lives before they can even fully comprehend how much trouble they're really in. He leaves them alive, if only to hold onto what morals he has left after the near massacre he causes.

All of this done without saying a word by the way. So these hunters have this vengeful, silent creature with the sharpest claws and teeth they've ever seen coming at them.

Out in the open water.

All on their own.

If someone tries to use the radio, Eli chomps it and tears it to pieces.

Whatever case or net or whatever they're holding Demetri in is torn up or shattered. Demetri is wide eyed by the display of violence, but he's kind of swooning too. His mate came to save him and did all of that just for him? He couldn't be more in love.

They jump ship and leave the crew a moaning, half conscience mess. If the boat makes it to the dock, they are floating aimlessly and the coast guard or whoever needs to be called has to come in and make sure the boat is safe.

But uh, yeah those hunters are likely uh 💀💀💀

Random mermaid!Elimetri headcanons!!!

Demetri actually has pretty sharp claws (kinda inspired by @sensei-venus's moodboard <3) but he doesn't like using them because it feels barbaric (he tries to be a classy dude). He's used them all of once in his life, when he and Eli were young and being chased by an orca. Eli was almost orca lunch, and Demetri acted on instinct. Turns out those claws cut deep.

Even though it scares the shit out of him, Demetri likes to sneak onto the beach at night and collect random human junk to show off to Eli. It's always the most useless garbage--bottlecaps and cigarette butts and ripped plastic bags and the like--and Eli has to keep from cracking up at how proud Demetri is of himself afterwards. He DOES appreciate the gesture, though.

Not Elimetri specifically, but Moon files and paints Demetri's claws, I know she does.

Eli is a self-proclaimed shark whisperer. He insists they're "misunderstood" and supposedly has befriended several. Demetri can kind of believe it, because he has never once been attacked by a shark in his entire life.

Eli probably eventually wants to raise a shark pup with Demetri. Demetri is unsure how to feel about this.

In their late teens, Eli grows a row of spine-like purple (or possibly iridescent and/or color-changing) fins across his head, and they gradually replace his hair. Demetri is alarmed by the change at first (especially since the mermaids are pretty taken with it!), but eventually comes around when he realizes it's just cool-looking fins and it doesn't change the fact that Eli's still the same dude he's always been in love with.

I had no idea how to interpret Eli's mohawk into a mermaid au, but this is genius and I love it.

And a shark pup! Aaaahhhhh!

“We’ll miss the whole All-Ocean Mergladiator Tournament!”

Demetri accelerates the boat. Wet flopping indicates both his merman boyfriends are failing to climb the railing again.

“You’ll dry out,” he says. “Need me to get the tank?”

“We need another win!” comes Eli’s whine.

“We were gonna start a trophy collection!” comes Miguel’s mutter.

Demetri sighs. “Miguel, your tail injury acted up again. Eli, you’re recovering from the Eel Kais making their shark bite your entire crest off. No dangerous activities for now!”

They grumble, but don’t fight further.

“Cheer up! I’ll show you more human video games.”

So Miguetreli performed surprisingly well on the rarepair poll I had a while back (SOLIDLY second place??? Holy crap???), and who am I to deny the wills of the masses??? Some polyam loser nerd trio because I love my followers very much and y'all deserve nice things <3
