The XR7 is one of the rarest and most lavish trim options for any Cougar - but a rust-free nearly all-original 1970 model with low miles and low wear is even rarer. This example sits in a shed on the property my dad rents, owned by the couple we rent it from. Several hundreds of people have probably offered large sums of cash for it, but the only deal we've ever been offered was to pay 100K for both the car and the house. You can imagine just how quickly my dad backed down from that. So the Cougar shall sit for probably another 40 or 50 years - or perhaps until the olden shed it sits in collapses on top of it. What a shame - this car is probably worth around the kind of money they were asking for it if someone could or would care for it, like it so rightfully deserves.

Mercury Cougar Sports Coupe Concept

What if...Mercury returned to the markets and started making vehicles again? With it's return the Cougar would offer a LS, XR7 and XR7 Sport, XR7 GT model with each model having their respective motor configurations of a 3.8 V6, Turbo 2.5L V6 motor, 5.0L V8, and finally in the GT model a supercharged V8 motor. The V6 motors will be front wheel drive configured with a few exceptions to the special editions. While the V8 motors will be rear wheel drive configured with stability assist technology that can be changed by the mode selector. Shown here in the XR7 Sport Panther Edition, it would be completely blacked out with a black grill and black wheels. It would offer a 6 speed manual transmission, and 6 speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode, with the most performance oriented models offering a 10 speed automatic paddle shift transmission.
