Ultimate Sticky Toffee Pudding
Ultimate Sticky Toffee Pudding Sometimes the idea for a recipe just comes to me and then other times it is a matter of honing and polishing an old recipe of mine to see if I can improve it. Of course practicing a dish again and again has a down side unless you go to the gym 3-4 days a weeks, as we do! My starting point was my old recipe that was published in my newspaper column some years ago. I…

🇵🇸 From Friends of Al-Aqsa (FOA):
This Ramadan make sure you’re not breaking your fast with the taste of apartheid. All you need to do is check the label to avoid buying dates from apartheid Israel. This includes dates labelled from Israel, the West Bank and the Jordan Valley or if the country of origin is not shown. Ramadan is a time of reflection and self-improvement. During this month we are more conscious of our actions and how they affect others. Israel is the world’s largest producer of Medjoul dates. Let's be conscious of not buying dates that support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and apartheid regime. * Major UK supermarkets like ASDA, Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose all sell dates from apartheid Israel as well as local grocery stores * The UK is the second-biggest importer of Israeli dates in Europe 50% of Israeli dates are exported to Europe, where the UK, Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy import huge quantities of the dried fruit. In 2020 the UK imported over 3000 tonnes of dates from Israel, worth roughly 7.5 million pounds. There are two peaks of date consumption in Europe. One is during the month of Ramadan and the other is during New Year’s Eve and Christmas. Boycotting Israeli dates in Ramadan is a concerted community effort that can show we are not powerless. It would be brilliant to see all Israeli dates still left on shelves across the UK and Europe at the end of the blessed month. This would reflect our strength as a community to stand together with a very important message: We will not support the oppression of Palestinians and we will not be complicit in Israeli apartheid. So, this Ramadan #CheckTheLabel and boycott Israeli dates.
With Ramadan approaching, please consider sharing!
If you're in the UK, they also have leaflets available for order on their webpage. These tie into their upcoming campaign #CheckTheLabel, with a national day of action on the 16th of February.
Again, check their webpage for more info.

The way stores get caught lying all the fucking time about fruits and vegetables…
Tumblr media
Carrefour says that the dates come from Algeria. Except Algeria doesn’t produce Medjoul dates (we make Deglet Noor) so it is impossible that these dates come from Algeria. You know who export Medjoul dates to France? Morocco and “Israel”. Mainly “Israel”. So once again a French store is caught lying to avoid the boycott and to support the occupation of Palestine and the genocide of Palestinians without consequences.
(Reminder that Carrefour is a target of BDS so we’re boycotting regardless of their lies)
Tumblr media
Again caught lying. This time it’s Auchan. The poster with the price says the avocados come from Portugal except the box says “Israel”.
In the video this time in Lidl you can see that the store says the avocados are from Columbia. Except at the person show it on the video the tag says “Origin: Israel”
Regarding avocados especially they lie all the fucking time. I actually stopped buying them because of the constant lies and because even in other countries it’s often produced at the expense of the local population using too much water to satisfy the needs of the West.
Either way I would suggest being super careful look at the box and tags not just what the store tells you. And if you live in France know that this is illegal and you can report all those instances to the DGCCRF (here). If you live elsewhere I suggest looking for the legislation and reporting those lies if you can.
Edit: if you know your local/national agency to report these kind of stuff don’t hesitate to share the link you can even send the agency name (not a link I’m not opening random anon links) in anon if you’re more comfortable and I’ll add it to the post.

The pumpkin cake & the dates cream cheese frosting
Tumblr media
Ειδικά το frosting, είναι beyond this world!
• 1/2 κγ Nutmeg
• 70ml coconut oil
• 100 γρ άμυλο καλαμποκιού (corn flour)
Για το frosting:
• 2 κ σ ghee
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

These sweet gems have found their way into dishes like Moroccan tagines, Arabic maamoul cookies, and Indian desserts. Their natural sweetness and chewy texture make them a delightful addition to both sweet and savoury dishes, offering a unique flavour profile that's hard to replicate.
Traditional Uses of Dates
Breaking Fast: In many cultures, dates are the first food consumed when breaking a fast, such as during Ramadan. Their natural sugars provide a quick energy boost.
Stuffed Dates: Dates are often stuffed with nuts or cream cheese, creating a delightful combination of sweet and savoury.
Date Syrup: Date syrup, also known as "dibs," is a common sweetener in Middle Eastern cuisine, used in a variety of dishes and desserts.
Date Pickle: In India, particularly in the state of Kerala, dates are used to prepare a unique and tangy date pickle.
Traditional Sweets: Dates find their way into various traditional sweets and desserts, adding a natural sweetness that enhances the overall flavour.
Modern Culinary Innovations with Dates
In recent years, dates have made a comeback in the culinary world, finding their place in modern recipes and gourmet cuisine. Top chefs and food enthusiasts have embraced dates for their versatility. You'll find them in salads, energy bars, smoothies, and even wrapped in bacon as delicious appetisers. They are rich in essential nutrients, including fibre, vitamins (such as B vitamins and vitamin K), and minerals (like potassium, magnesium, and iron). They provide a quick energy boost due to their natural sugars, making them a great snack option. Furthermore, dates are known to support digestive health, aid in regulating blood sugar levels, and contribute to heart health by reducing the risk of heart disease. They’re easily available, in the year 2022/2023, global date production exceeded a million metric tons, making it the 2nd most produced dried fruit after raisins. The top three date-producing nations are Iraq, Algeria, and Iran and dates from these regions are extremely sought after.
