one time I got into a fifteen minute argument with my AP French teacher junior year of high school because she’d asked us about life changing experiences and I said that that morning I’d been alone in a little courtyard and watched a tiny bird fly out of a bush into the brightening sky and and breathed in real deep and started to think I might be able to remember how to want to live again, and she said it didn’t count because I wouldn’t even remember seeing the bird fly out of a bush three days later but the joke is on her because I’m still pissed about that argument years after

#not joking she was one of the worst people I’ve ever met #like. i try to believe that most people actively want to do good #even if they’re very very flawed in the way they try to achieve it #but I spent fifty minutes with her every morning for months #and I never saw a single act of kindness from her #meanwhile she took everyday courtesies and made herself a hero when telling us about them #she spent twenty five minutes of every lesson talking about hersel #in English too! not in French!! #one time she monologued to the two of us about how brave and selfless she had been in 1998 to volunteer at a hospital #where people were dying of aids #and tried to convince two queer kids #one of whom had parents who would have actively kicked her out if they’d known! #how serious the plight of ‘the gays’ is #anyways #she was self obsessed and tone deaf and a worshipper of any rule that let her take out her petty frustrations on teenagers #and the only kind things she ever did were in front of her superiors #who would compliment her for it #ask game replies #sigh #I’m being unfair to her I’m sure in her own way she did really mean to help people #but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t an awful teacher and a cruel self interested person
