#me watching superman interact with kryptonite: ah just like those really bad cramps I had

This might sound a little sadistic of me, but I love how Superman's interaction with kryptonite in MAWS just makes me do a full-body wince. Like, we've seen Superman be affected by kryptonite plenty of times, but a lot of the time it's a kind of "grunts and drops to a knee" sort of interaction--it's an alien man interacting with an alien material, and we're not really clear on how it's affecting his physiology any more than we know how Yellow Sunlight + Kryptonian Physiology = Laser Eyes.
Like... this may be a kind of a TMI comparison, but there was a time back in college where I was standing in a classroom during a group exercise and I suddenly got hit by period cramps so bad that I got lightheaded, my vision started swimming, and I broke into a cold sweat. It felt like gravity was concerting all its efforts to shove my whole pelvis toward the floor and it was all I could do to keep standing with a high-pitched note ringing in one ear. Like, after that, whenever I would see Superman interact with Kryptonite in non-MAWS media, I basically go, "Okay Kryptonite is like that day, but like, 10 times worse, full-body rather than just pelvis, and it's also killing you."
But in MAWS Superman reacts to Kryptonite in a way that's a clear combination of "Human being being poisoned" (he's on the ground! he's twitching and choking!!) and, as we saw with the crystals growing on both Clark and the robots, "These crystals basically latch onto whatever form of energy is endemic to Krypton and then grow in it like tumors." Which is horrifying but it's also a great combination that emphasizes both Clark's humanity and his alienness.
