Tsukino Usagi remembers her past life as Serenity. She begins remembers between the ages of 4 to 7, and it kind of leads her parents to worry a little, until they believe it's just her having an overactive imagination.

As Usage grows up, she becomes a mix of Princess Serenity and herself. She has a more mature approach to things, but also has a much more modern idea of how things should be. While she misses the Moon Kingdom, she enjoys being able to live a more normal life.

The older she gets, the more she thinks back on her life and what she could have done differently. She thinks about Endymion, and their rather short lived romance. The more she thinks about it, the more she discovers that while she did love him, she was more enraptured with Earth and the freedom it represented.

As she thinks about her future, she realizes she doesn't want to get swept away in a romance. She wants to be free. She thinks on how different things on Earth are in comparison to the way it was on the Moon. She learns through history that the rights she has were not always there, and that triggers something in her.

She starts to research human rights, and eventually goes deeper and learns about women's rights and about activism. This becomes a turning point for her, and she suddenly knows what she wants for her future.

She begins to take studying seriously, and by the time she turns 14, she has dreams of being a lawyer and a women's rights activist.

Of course, destiny has other plans, and she ends up meeting Luna the same way as in canon. She doesn't tell her that she remembers though, as she can see that Luna's memories are not all there.

Usagi still becomes Sailor Moon (she is very much unhappy with how short the skirt is), and most of what is canon occurs, with a few differences.

She does not meet Mamoru the same way, instead Motoki actually introduces them. She recognized him on sight, after all you don't really forget that man that you fell in love with. She doesn't try and push for anything, but she does become somewhat friends with him. He finds it interesting she wants to be a lawyer, and she interested in plans to be a doctor.

The scouts take her more seriously, but at times there is tension. The girls don't really know why, but it's there.

Will NEVER understand this obsession from western audiences/writers who want for Amy to be "mature" in the stereotypical fashion where she complains if the boys do silly/fun things.

In SA1, at the very beginning of her story, Amy talks of how she dislikes boredom and fondly longs for the days of adventure whenever Sonic was around.

That she longs for the same life of excitement, should be a very clear sign that Amy is not the kind of character who wants to be controlling of others, nor a sort of "party pooper" nag who dislikes fun/silly things.

If anything, the Japanese media before the switch to american writers, often portrayed Amy as bubbly and energic, a bit silly with how she acted and thought, but always in an endearing way. Like in the Sonic Chronicles manga where she was so absorbed on taking pictures with her phone to upload unto her blog that she didn't notice that Shade punched and comically sent her flying.

There is a reason why many fans aplauded her characterization in that free game for Steam where Sonic is "murdered", as it brought elements of her personality that where long missing in her "sanitized/safe" from the last years. Amusing things like giving Blaze and Rouge the roles of a Tycoon and a business woman, only to tell them that there was no difference when asked about it.

In a way, a good reference point on how to write Amy is to look for Shoujo anime such as Sailor Moon. In fact, it's main character, Usagi Tsukino, shares a lot in common with Amy.

IMO, Amy is a character that should never be localized to fit the generic "western sensibilities" when it comes on how to handle female characters. Amy is designed and conceived with Japanese ones from the get go and to mess with them is something that results in a completely different character.

Ohhh, honestly, it's been a while since I actually dabbled into the Sailor Moon universe, so I'm pretty rusty, all things considered! But I did talk about a similar topic with a friend once. More precisely, who the mm gang would choose as their favorite character. This turned into a kind of mix-up between who I think their favorite would be, and who I actively associate with them. So, these are just my silly thoughts! Some are more deep than others.

Yoosung - Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino

I have to agree with you there: Usagi and Yoosung are definitely a very good match. I actually headcanon Yoosung as a huge fan of Sailor Moon franchise in mm universe! Particularly because he relates to Usagi so much, with her being the main character. He may or may not have had a fictional crush on her... but that's a secret (Seven definitely knows). These two are both cheery and bright spirits with big dreams. Their individual journeys involve self-improvement and maturity. He definitely cried more than once at her romance with Tuxedo Mask... The start of his romantic nature.

Zen - Sailor Mars/Rei Hino

You'll be surprised who I put Sailor Venus with! But, as for Zen, I love putting him up with more fiery and fierce characters. I always associate him with fire, honestly. Zen and Rei are both self-sufficient and resourceful in their own ways. And while Zen is definitely not as spunky or sassy as Rei, he more than compensates for it when you put him in a chatroom with Jumin. They both share a very strong sense of justice as well. Zen will not hesitate to say it how it is, or voice his frustrations in the face of unfair wrongdoings. They are also fiercely protective of their loved ones, which is definitely a very important quirk of Zen's. Overall, they share similar vibes, and I think they would appreciate each other for their individual strengths.

Jaehee - Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno

And yes! I am in agreement that Jaehee and Ami are a perfect match. Personally, Ami was my favorite 'cause I share so many similarities to her in terms of how I behave with other people, so I love that girl to bits and pieces. The obvious 'logical smart friend' parallels aside, there is also a similarity to their personal growth throughout their journeys. Learning to believe in themselves, be confident in their personal strengths, and finding internal growth through meaningful relationships with people who truly care about you is something they both learn. I think that's really sweet.

Jumin - Sailor Neptune/Michiru Kaioh

Now, it is kind of funny how I put the more creative Michiru next to Jumin, and not Jihyun. But, hear me out. Michiru is frequently depicted as a figure of elegance and sophistication. Kind of similar to how Jumin is always followed by an aura of refined and luxurious charm. I also always picture Jumin as a very elegant and attractive man when it comes to meeting him in person. I'd say, he is actually right next to Zen when it comes to stealing your breath away with just looks alone. His alluring way of holding himself is what really draws you in to him. Jumin is also much more sensitive than people give him credit for. I just can't help but put Michiru's water powers next to his deep care for those he holds dear to his heart. They are both stoic, but loving souls. Stern but righteous. When faced with conflict, they will do the right thing.

Saeyoung - Sailor Uranus/Haruka Tenoh

Listen. They may not share much in terms of their behavior: with Haruka being on a more cool and mature side, while Saeyoung is notorious for his love for mischief, but... First of all, they both share a love for cars. Specifically, race cars. It's likely that they would find a common ground on that. Especially with how nerdy Saeyoung is with his interests. Not many share his love for speed and his lovely babies! On a deeper level, they do also share a similar undying loyalty to their loved ones. Saeyoung with Saeran, and Haruka with Sailor Neptune. Plus, Saeyoung is more than capable of remaining cool and determined in the face of danger. There is also the whole 'protecting the world from evil' aspect, and Saeyoung wanting to be seen as a defender of justice, but I digress.

Jihyun - Sailor Star Healer/Yaten Kou

Honestly, the reason behind this is mostly Taiki's love for classical music and her talent as a pianist. I also really like putting her thoughtfulness and reservedness next to Jihyun's more emotional and reckless nature. I just feel like they'd make a very interesting pair with a relatively balanced dynamic. Jihyun needs someone who will tell him upfront when he's getting lost in his mind or acting foolishly. Taiki is a character who is both loyal and selfless, and she is willing to put herself in danger to protect her friends. That's a sentiment they definitely share.

Saeran - Sailor Pluto/Setsuna Meioh

There's just something about mysterious characters with tragic backstories, isn't there? This choice is biased because Setsuna is my second favorite, honestly. She doesn't get much screen time, but she left a huge impact on me regardless. There is a tragic sense of duty to her, that I can't help but link to Saeran's invisible chains of responsibility to his Savior and Magenta. The circumstances are very different, no doubt. But the weight of their duties is weighing heavily on their shoulders in a similar way. The willingness Setsuna has to sacrifice herself is a trait that I can also trace back to Saeran. If we hadn't stopped him, he would have sacrificed himself for us with a sad and reserved smile on his face. And that thought always hurts me to think about.

Rika - Sailor Venus/Minako Aino

This is honestly more of a biased choice, but I'll try to explain it somewhat logically, hehe. They do share a similar sense of mystery around themselves, until we get to properly see them as a thorough and rounded character. Minako and Rika are both very cheerful and bubbly people on the outside. A sort of 'sunshine' of the group. But, much like Rika, Minako has so much more than just her bubbly smiles and happy-go-lucky attitude. They both have rather ambiguous dreams, with Minako wanting to become an idol, and Rika aspiring to help as many people as she can. They both have a profound sense of responsibility in some way or another. If we're talking about Rika before the whole Mint Eye nightmare, I'd like to think that she and Minako would become great friends.

Calling Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon a Mary Sue is still wild to me.

It will always be wild to me.

This girl is a clumsy ,lazy crybaby who don't want to fight in the beginning of the series and end up becoming the one who saves everyone asses every single time and willing to lay down her life to protect the people she loves.

She had to LEARN how to fight.

She had to Learn how use the Silver Crystal properly.

She didn't all of a sudden knew how to fight and use the Silver Crystal.

She is nowhere near perfect at all.

I love Princess Serenity but her 90's version is more closer to a Mary Sue than Usagi.

Not PS Manga/ Crystal versions where we do see her personality and see the similarities between her and Usagi.

And her PGSM version. Child! They wasn't playing with that version of her.

Her 90's version just seem perfect with her knowing how ice skate ,pick flowers and the only thing she ever did was to jump off that balcony to join Endymion and got killed. That was the only wreckless and rebellious thing she did really. Because really didn't emphasize the fact that she supposed to sneaked down to earth a couple times like her manga/ Crystal counterpart. We had a bunch of episodes in the 90's anime trying to prove that Usagi was not a mature or elgant as Serenity when it was revealed that she was Serenity.

You don't have to connect with Usagi because when I was younger I didn't but now I do as I gotten older and watch different versions of her.

But to call her a mary sue??

mcu verse highlight for usagi tsukino

usagi tsukino is initially a reluctant hero in the MCU; a young teenager who doubles as super heroine: sailor moon. she eventually accepts her role as a guardian / protector of the earth as she matures and starts to ( clumsily ) come into her own power. she becomes one of the most famous / beloved super heroes in japan and is a key figure in helping to rebuild tokyo after the blip in which some of her fellow guardians also disappeared. she is happy and willing to work with and help the avengers.

she soon discovers that she is the reincarnation of an ancient & powerful extraterrestrial princess / deity known as princess serenity of an ancient and highly advanced but long since lost kingdom on the moon. and thus become progressively stronger. someday she will become neo queen serenity & then eventually sailor cosmos.

powers: increased stamina, increased / inhuman speed, supersonic waves / sound manipulation, energy manipulation, energy projection, accelerated healing, flight, clairvoyance ( can see current events happening around the world with her goggles ), teleportation, enhanced senses, matter manipulation, light manipulation, limited shapeshifting, transformation, weapon summoning, existence erasure, resurrection, immortality ( to a certain degree )

Hello, I just read someone made a meta that said Yuuji is more like a shoujo protagonist than a shounen one. What do you think?

I don't know what to think. I mean... is it because Yuji might pull a "I will heal you in the name of the Moon"? Which, as I've said before, Sailor Moon would have taken care of Sukuna 20 chapters ago. My girl would have had him in check with the power of love and friendship.

Side note: I love Hana trying to play into that magical girl role lol.

Anyways, tbh I'm not sure I've read enough shojo to be able to discern a pattern of what a shojo heroine is defined by compared to how shonen mcs have a somewhat prescribed personality set. When I think shojo I think (young) female gaze and interpretation of the world.

i.e. Kinomoto Sakura is strong because her character and soul are strong, not because she has physically become the strongest idk something like that. I feel like the same can be said of my other faves Tsukino Usagi and Princess Yona. On a more grounded and mature level Komatsu Nana is just a hot mess, and you can't help but love her because, at her age, we're all just doing our best in navigating this messy reality.

How to say... like it's just a different way to experience the world so my brain goes places like does this mean "Yuji thinks with his emotions". idk anyone think I'm missing some important detail here please let me know lol.

Usagi Tsukino is based on Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon. She is a 26 year old super human, streamer, and uses she/her pronouns. She has the power of lunar healing and energy manipulation. Usagi is portrayed by Minatozaki Sana.

usagi has lived in evermore for basically her entire life. she couldn’t remember a time where she wasn’t even if she tried. for the longest time she thought she was just an average girl. she didn’t do very well in school and she spent most of her free time crying, eating, or playing video games, but she was really good at all of those things! her life may have not been extraordinary but it was hers and she loved it all the same.

meeting luma changed everything. she went from being silly little usagi to a sailor guardian and she is still trying to wrap her head around it. she is happy that her friends are a part of it, really, but she doesn’t want to let them down or get them hurt. she is constantly worried she is going to mess up.

she has always felt connected to the moon, which fits her being sailor moon. she stares at it when she can’t sleep, she talks to it when she doesn’t know what to do....the moon guides her in more ways than she is even aware.

her hair is normally always in her signature “bunhead” style. two big buns with two long pigtails. despite hating being called bunhead, she has worn her hair that way since forever, so why change it now? it is her signature look but every now and then she will just do some space buns.

she has been streaming full time for a few years now. with the grades she had it was a miracle she graduated high school so the idea of going to college was....not in the cards for her. honestly her dream job would be a professional taste tester at the lucky cat or literally anywhere that sold food. but she really likes streaming! she can just talk and talk and no one every interrupts her! she typically plays cozy games or rpgs. big fan of legend of zelda.

usagi does not sleep well at first. she often has dreams of this beautiful kingdom on the moon and a boy that feels like home. sometimes the dreams end good, sometimes they end really bad. but she ends up sleeping in because she is so restless when they start. she would love to know what they mean.

as stated before usagi’s first love is food. she has a sweet tooth for days but she is also a deep appreciator of savory foods. traditional japanese food is her favorite but she honestly eats just about anything put in front of her. the only food she actually HATES is carrots. no carrots allowed!

she is a big manga fan! her favorite ones are romance, star crossed lovers, things like that. she could honestly disappear for hours reading them and she has a rather large collection of her favorites series at her home.

she loves the idea of being in love and getting married and having kids. of course she can’t keep a boyfriend to save her life, but she hasn’t given up yet! she believes in fate and soulmates and she believes that hers is somewhere out there in evermore.

she cries extremely easily. she has been labeled as the sensitive one or the crybaby basically all her life but really she is just passionate! she cares so deeply about others and the words they say that she can’t help but show her emotions plain as day on her face. the only thing she really hates about it is how she is labeled immature when she thinks she is fairly mature (she is not tbh).

one of her favorite spots in evermore is the arcade. not only because really cute guys work there but because she is one her way of getting top score in her favorite games and she has been working on it very hard since she was a kid. she isn’t the greatest at arcade games but she is determined to be the unofficial queen of the arcade.

she has a HUGE crush on tuxedo mask. she has zero idea what his true identity is and she wants to know of course, but she is kinda really into the mystery of it too. every time he looks at her it is like she is waking up for the first time. like she was meant to gaze into his eyes.

also as mentioned before she really isn’t always the brightest. academically she isn’t bright at all despite her friends trying to help her get through it over the years. she is constantly making jokes, constantly being teased for missing a joke, and trying her best to keep the atmosphere light because she likes seeing others smile. a standard class clown!

usagi has always been obsessed with bunnies. she has her own pet bunny now that she is not living at home with her parents and younger brother. the bunnies name is bonbon and he is her precious baby. her name means rabbit, so y’know it checks out.

usagi is a TERRIBLE COOK. she normally has to beg kwon to come over and help her cook or else she is just ordering takeout forever. she will very much need roommates because otherwise she will burn the house down trying to boil water or make a grilled cheese alone.

a very big fan of singing and karaoke. she is constantly dragging anyone who she can to neverland to sing duets with her! her voice is alright, but she is that girl who acts like she can’t sing and then does pretty awesome.

Interesting. This is actually the first time I’ve seen this, or if I did it’s probably rare. While I wouldn’t say she’s unfeeling but out of all her sisters Blosson seems to be the one thinking with her head than her feelings. She’s more logical and sensible than her sisters.

Ughh after the live action script leak a recurring pattern to make Blossom so lame + make her a love interest for some useless (probably self insert) guys. She’s treated like this by both fans and reboot/live action writers when she’s the one who never expressed any interest in guys in canon

The person who said it was pretty awful overall but like, yeah, logical does not equal robot with no feelings. It weirded me out. She’s not like a cold-hearted murderer or anything even though she frequently has to employ logic and reasoning into her decision making as the leader. And yeah, logic and reason are not the adjectives you would use to describe Buttercup or Bubbles ever. 🤣

And UHHHHH EXCUSE MEEEEE SHE IS SO SUPER CANONICALLY IN LOVE WITH BRIIIIIIICK IT IS SO CANON lmao okay okay, but seriously, yeah, like the only boy that all three of the girls smooched on their own accord was that little weirdo Harry Pitt, yet the fandom ships the girls with three characters they smooched to purposefully destroy (not to mention this was after being pummeled to smithereens so badly by the RRB and basically left for dead by them before being revived by the tears of the Townsvillians… but love story for the ages, I guess). But it’s true, for the most part, boys aren’t really a big thing for her in the OG show.

Now when it comes to things other than the characters in the canon universe… Blossom being boy crazy in the anime is something I can let slide because, like how she reflects how American superheroes act in the OG show, she reflects how a magical girl group leader acts in the anime (she eats a lot, she’s klutzy and gets bad grades, she loves boys… big Usagi Tsukino vibes, lol). That’s why giving her a boyfriend in the reboot as some kind of homage to the anime made no sense (I mean, that and for obvious other reasons, of course). And, in the same vein, I don’t necessarily mind if a more mature oriented show wants to write her as an adult woman in a relationship (same with the other girls… but boy if that live action script isn’t something I would LOVE to rewrite if I knew it wouldn’t be a colossal waste of my time that no one would actually care about in the end)… but, yeah, man, it needs to be written MUCH better if you’re gonna do it! 🤣

Overall, in the scope of the actual OG canon show where she and her sisters are superpowerful kindergarteners, yeah… we can definitely pass on that kinda thing, haha.
