On the same day I tried those (unfortunate) ink drawings I decided to do something inspired by markmaking tools and paint with them.
I didn’t want to go mad with power and drive myself insane with colour so I stuck to a blue and purple palette as these are the colours I often associate her with. She always wore purple cardigans and her hands were usually bruised but would always hold mine as tight as they could when she laughed.
I used a piece of fabric that I kept together with hairties and went nuts. I’m not 100% happy with the proportions and accuracy but the brush was unforgiving and I think it allowed me to capture her essence that I couldn’t with a brush and detail. I also made her shoulders a lil too small but I also remember her looking very small during the last few years we had her so I think that’s why I did that.
I ended up trying to add a background but I believe it was more successful without, sometimes simple is better, wahoo learning! I love the visible brushstrokes and the way the colours meet but don’t perfectly mix. :)
This one sat on my easel for a quiet sometime. I wasn't necessarily stuck on the painting, as I was not truly motivated to paint. This fall has been a bit odd to say the least. Regardless of life, I was able to just sit and take my time with this one as I went with a more minimal approach and focusing on the line movement.

Well today happened. This evening to be specific. Started a Printmaking course at CityLit. Met my class mates. Squealed. And had fun. I am scared shitless, but that's a good thing. Thanks Rolina for making me feel excited.
The image is part of a cyanotype we all created in class tonight. Look at those marks. Yum!
I attended eoin's workshop in which we had to create our own mark making tools from discarded items around the college. I created tools out of wooden forks, sticks, branches, leaves, oranges, gloves, etc. I liked being able to experiment with mark making and i may use some of the skills in my project if I am moving forward with my water idea as the movements are quite fluid.
