KATE (2021) Grade: C
I expected a more fun ride. Predictable mostly, you'll feel like you seen this movie before. The DP work was stylish enough.

Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine turns 10.
Tumblr media
10 years ago, April 5th 2012 . . .
Lupin the third had been on a 27 year hiatus since the last time an official series had been made in 1985 with Lupin the third part 3 (pink jacket series), only making yearly TV movies starting from 1989 to present day and two theater releases before 1995. When the franchise reached its 40th anniversary of animation in the 2010s; to celebrate, TMS & Nipon TV wanted to test the waters and see if audiences would like a return of the serialized format.
Tumblr media
With a new series green lit for 13 episodes; this being Sayo Yamamotos second big project as director in the industry; working on a long standing franchise AND making it a prequel for part 1 (green jacket series) using franchise creator Kazuhiko Katōs (A.K.A Monkey punch) manga art style and themes as inspiration, this time though, staring the femme fatale herself, the beautifully deadly Mine Fujiko.
With the series composition by prolific writer Mari Okada, the incredible art, animation and character design by Takeshi Koike, and lastly, music by the avant-garde jazz composer & saxophonist Naruyoshi Kikuchi, along with legendary cowboy bebop director, Shinichirō Watanabe as music producer; set out to tell a dark, sexy and psychologically twisted thriller of story in the world of lupin the third.
(Synopsis)
The Woman Called Fujiko Mine is the story of how lady looter met master thief, Lupin The Third, during her heists of a mysterious drug cult known as "Fräulein Eule". As the series continues, fujiko meets along the way deadly hitman Jigen Daisuke, her soon to be samurai boyfriend, Goemon Ishikawa the 13th, and the hardboiled inspector Zenigata with his partner lieutenant Oscar of interpol; Along with many more colorful and deadly cast of characters. As memories of her past comeback to haunt her, a dark and sinister force is reaching out to take fujiko back as theirs once more.

After this spin off aired, it helped kick off not only the return of the lupin TV series, it paved the way for parts 4-6, creating its own series of movies thanks to Takeshi Koike by continuing with his own story and over arching plot known as "Lupin The IIIRD". Whether it's cannon to part 1 or it's own mini series. The woman called fujiko mine left a big impact to the franchise and fans alike for being differnt, bold yet the lupintic feel we all know and love just DARK.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you like psychological thrillers, noire type mysteries and/or the manga in general, I highly recommend this to fans if you haven't watched it already, it's a solid entry for the franchise with some of the best art, animation and writing at the time. Trust me I can gush about how much I loved this take of lupin the third. To the wonderful and talented production team that made this great anime, happy 10th anniversary.
BE WARNED ⚠️
Viewer discretion IS advised, this entry is very mature, it Is not ment for kids
Nudity
Blood and violence
Themes of drug, mental/psychological and sexual abuse
Mild Sexual imagery
If you're more into the light hearted lupin adventures, then this probably won't be for you . . . . Or you might like it, who knows really.

Yamamoto Kansai (February 8, 1944 - July 21, 2020),
It is with much sorrow that we report the death of Japanese designer,  Kansai Yamamoto, who passed away on 21st July, aged 76.
Before Issey Miyake and Rei Kawakubo there was Kansai Yamamoto, the often-overlooked Japanese fashion designer who was catapulted into the international spotlight when David Bowie wore one of his designs. It’s as iconic as it is characteristic of Yamamoto’s work, which is marked by loud patterns, avant-garde styling, elaborate prints, bold hair and theatrical make-up.
At the cutting-edge of contemporary Japanese fashion during the 1970s and 80s, Yamamoto was a unique figure in the industry. Not just because his work flipped a middle-finger at the conventions of the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic – a typically simple and straight-laced style – but because his shows were entertainingly theatrical, featuring fashion, fireworks, dancing and an exhilarating take on beauty.
But perhaps the most inspiring thing about Yamamoto is the fact that, for him, fashion is more than mere garments. “I put all my time into creating a place where I can get in touch with people’s souls”
Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his family and those close to him at this sad time.
