It was a sentence that had come out of her mouth before she could stop it. Marco sits before her, legs spread apart, one arm resting against the back of the couch while the other hangs between his legs. The look on his face is one that she's seen before when she's been, in his words, "bratty".

He says nothing.

She lets the sentence hang between them and each second that passes by, she feels the tension thickening with each one. Marco continues to stare at her, keeping his mouth shut. This was easier for him than it was for her and they both knew it. He would bide his time until she was close to breaking - if not actually breaking - and that's when he'd begin.

She suspects that this will be similar.

She's about to break the silence when he holds up one, long finger and continues to stare at her.

"On your knees." he says after what feels like an eternity.

She does as she's asked, no. Commanded. The feel of the plush carpet beneath her knees and feet is slightly comforting but she knows being here long enough, it'll start to dig into her skin and leave imprints soon enough.

She kneels before him, hands on her thighs and waits for him to make his move, something which does eventually come.

He moves directly past her, the smell of his aftershave lingering despite him no longer being present in the room. Her arm hair prickles, standing on end as she keeps her head facing forward and strains her ears trying to listen for the lightest of noises for anything which would tell her what he's doing.

Minutes, she couldn't say how many, pass until she hears the soft sound of his footing.

"Hold your breath and count to ten." Marco says when he returns. It's not from directly behind her, but it is from behind her.

"One. Two. Three."

Marco gets closer. His steps matching her counting. "Close your eyes."

"Four. Five. Six."

His aftershave is stronger now, and she feels a cold waft as the air is stirred.

"Seven. Eight. Ni-" she pauses, feeling the soft fabric cover her eyes, lightly touching her face and the top of her nose.

"Did I say stop?"

"Eight." she repeats, "nine. Ten."

"Good girl." he says, smoothing some stray hairs from her face and traces the curve of her lips with his thumb. "Still want me to fuck you?" He asks, smearing his thumb over her lips until she parts them. Her tongue peeks out, the tip of it wetting the padding of his thumb.

"So eager." he smiles, the action of it seeping into his words. "So fucking eager to please me aren't you?"

"And if I am?" she asks.

"Open. Before I give you my cock like you so desperately need, then show me why you think you deserve it. I want to see you earn the right to have my dick inside of you."

Let’s start serious and move towards our yearly Thanks blog at the end.

I’ve heard from a lot of you asking if the recent messages that White Wolf have posted on their social media are something that will be bad for Onyx Path. As of this writing, everything we’ve heard from over there is that it’s business as usual between our companies. We are still going to be sending projects over for approvals, they are still the ones who OK our pitches for new WW-IP projects, and we’re still running our successful Chicago By Night KS, the first licensed V5 TTRPG supplement.

So fear not, True Believers!

I mean, I just had to channel Stan Lee there, after last week’s MMN blog.

Which was, oddly enough, the least commented-on blog I think I’ve ever posted. Very strange, but I’m just assuming you were all in mourning for Stan, too.

In case you missed it last week, here is the lovely graphic our own Impish Ian Watson made to show what game lines are wholly Onyx Path‘s, the ones at the top, and which are licensed from whom:

I actually didn’t think we’d need it again so soon, but there does seem to be a fair bit of confusion out there, so feel free to point to this if you need to explain things to a friend.

    A bit of related news:

One of the first times I ever heard of Matthew Dawkins, who is our Chicago By Night developer, was when he interviewed me for his YouTube channel a whole bunch of years ago. From then, his Gentlemam Gamer videos have taken deep dives into many of the White Wolf (and other) games, and were very helpful in explaining aspects of V5 during this last year.

Now, Matthew has agreed to create a series of Gentleman Gamer videos for our Onyx Path games starting with the pantheons in Scion 2nd Edition, and you’ll also be seeing Matthew in other ways too, as he helps ramp up our online gaming presence. More on that in the weeks to come!

BUT DON’T WORRY, his dulcet tones are still going to be appearing weekly on the Onyx Pathcast – which this coming Friday features Dixie interviewing Jacqueline “Jax” Bryk with a one-on-one covering not just her work with us, but throughout the TTRPG biz, and how she has become one of our industries leading lights for safe play game writing.

I am thankful that the whole Onyx Path team gave me the opportunity to work on these books in a greater capacity this year. I am thankful that Eddy, Matthew, and Rich are always supportive and willing to answer my many questions, and that Rose Bailey recommended me for this job as she moved on to a new stage in her career. I am thankful for all of my amazing Chronicles of Darkness and Exalted developers, writers, and fans, who continue to do amazing work and be a wonderful community. I am also thankful for lovely editors and indexers, Word’s “track changes” function, and Oxford commas.

Thanks to all of our associated partner companies that give us the reach to deliver and communicate this thing we do to all of you!

Which, of course, actually brings me to all of you and all of our community who have supported us through our growing pains, lo! these many years, and even through pains not of our choosing! Without this intricate eco-system that includes all of us and all of you, we just would not have been able to keep building all our game lines and worlds!

she'd joked previously about how Marco couldn't go a week without getting his dick wet from at least one hole and Marco had been adamant that he could. Insisted. Promised. Threatened too, that he could.

But watching his team fall apart in the way that they had had meant that he would be very much regretting his words. Regretting that this match had happened during this promised dry spell week.

She'd watched nervously from his box as the defence had fallen apart, the strikers were just not capable of finding the back of the net and yet, encouraged a very intimate relationship with the bar instead. She waited until the players filed out after the match, having received a message from Marco saying to meet her in the car while he went over a few things before he met her. She didn't want that. Wouldn't accept that kind of message and instead, barged now into the locker room to find him.

He's in front of the large whiteboard with his tablet in his hand as he watched the "highlights" back. He double looks when he realises it's her and not a member of his coaching team and begins to argue that he'd told her to wait.

"No." She tells him, eyes never leaving his face as she marches towards him and strokes her hand over his crotch, realising now just how "free use" this seems.

Three weeks previously…

“I don’t know. I’d love to spend it again with Marco but I’ve still barely met anyone on his side properly.” There’s a pause as she listens to someone on the other end of the phone call speaking before she starts speaking again but not before she sighs. “I mean…I’ve briefly met his ex wife and I’ve spent a good amount of time with his children but not enough to say I could confidently walk into a room with his loved ones and engage without worry. And mine? Still not sure dad would approve fully, you know how he gets about these things.”

Despite everything that she’s told him about how she feels, Marco still feels his stomach drop and his heart sink further. He knew their age gap would pose problems, but the worry, if not fear, that they wouldn’t be accepted because of it grew tenfold but hearing her say it during a call that he probably wasn’t supposed to overhear, it hurts. Not wanting to keep listening, and in turn, hurting himself, Marco pushes himself to continue walking until he reaches the kitchen, leaving her alone in the living room none the wiser.

“No, I’m not saying it’s right. You know that I think it’s shit, but what can I do? Forcing him to accept it will do more harm than good. I want him to see that I’m happy before he finds out who is making me happy. Mum says he’ll need time to come around because obviously she knows and she’s fine with it but if dad can see how happy I am, that’ll help.”

Now. 

Standing in the kitchen with her hands submerged in the water, she takes this time to gather her thoughts. She knew that meeting his family for the first time, properly, would be an experience but she wasn’t expecting to feel this welcomed by his parents and children. His mother had swept her into the house, engaged her in conversation and tried to do her best to make her feel as relaxed as possible given the circumstances. 

Occasionally Marco’s ex would be brought up, mostly in relation to what she’d bought the kids for christmas or when they’d be seeing her next, but it was enough to make her feel as though she was the odd one out in a way. This was the first year that his ex hadn’t been present for Christmas and she knew that she was responsible for this - not that she felt any sort of hostility from them for this, though she could have understood it if there was. 

Soap suds coat her hands, lathering them up and making her hands feel silky. His parents have a dishwasher, one that they were more than happy to stack but she offered to do the remaining ones so that she could at least be helpful. She’d caught the way his parents had looked at one another during the course of the day, pulling expressions similar to first time parents with a newborn who is experiencing many of their first “firsts” and though it had made her happy to see that they appeared pleased that Marco was happy, she felt a pang of sadness that this wasn’t something that she could experience with her own parents just yet. 

She smells his aftershave before she hears the soft padding of his footsteps behind her. She watches via the reflection in the window as Marco approaches and closes her eyes briefly as his arms wrap around her waist and he nuzzles into her neck. “Do you want me to dry if you’re washing?”

“I was going to do that after I’d finished everything else, but I wasn’t sure where it needed to go.” She admits, casting a quick glance over the pile of tableware that stands air drying. 

“I’m surprised mum let you do this, she’s usually particular about her kitchen. Clearly she’s trying to make a good impression.”

“That makes two of us then.”

“Your efforts have paid off. Believe me.” Marco presses a light kiss to her neck, the feel of his beard scraping against her skin makes her shudder. 

“You sound certain about that,” she pulls out one of the glasses and rinses it off under the tap before placing it on the draining board along with the others.

“I am. I wouldn’t say it if I didn't mean it.” He replies before kissing a light kiss to her skin once more and removes himself from her body. She feels cold almost immediately in his absence but notes that he collects a towel and begins to dry everything off - just like he said he would. He navigates his parents' kitchen like the back of his hand and puts everything away with ease. “You didn’t need to do this though, you know.” 

“I know. But your parents cooked and hosted and me tidying away is the least I can do to relieve some of their duties for when we’ve left.” 

“Speaking of,” Marco says as he opens one of the above cupboards and begins to stack the plates in there. “I can’t wait to get back with you, have a glass of wine and settle in for the night once they’ve gone to bed.”

“You say that like I’m staying,” she chuckles to herself and pulls the the plug from the sink to let the water go. 

“Wait, you’re not staying?” comes a little voice and she finds herself turning and facing Marco’s 8 year old daughter who looks between the two of them, disappointment clear on her face.

“Erm,” Marco’s girlfriend clears her throat and nervously looks at him before turning back to the little one, “I thought you might want to spend tonight with your dad and brother that’s all. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome.”

“We want you here. You’re part of our family now too. Right dad?”

If it was possible to feel a heart swell with both love and pride for a child, Marco would say he could physically feel his enlarge in this very moment for his child. He’d hoped that they’d like being around her and accept her as someone who he found himself falling in love with but to ask for her to stay on what was always their night together is more than perfect. “Right.” He says after clearing his own throat, unaware how the lump that had wedged itself there had grown so big in such a short space of time. 

“And…” his daughter plays with her fingers as she works out the words she wants to say and shifts nervously from foot to foot as she does so, “if it’s ok with you, we have a gift we’d like to give to you. Me and my brother that is,” she adds for clarification and when Marco turns to look at his girlfriend, she can see from his expression that he had no idea this was coming either. 

The thoughtfulness of such a premeditated gesture catches her off guard. Her eyes well up and her heart beats hard against her ribcage in such a way that she can feel it pounding in her ears. 

“Well,” she swallows hard and tries to laugh off her emotions, catching a stray tear with her thumb that she wasn’t able to blink back. “I guess I’ll have to stay then, if it’s ok with you both? And your brother of course.”

“As long as you like popcorn and hot cocoa.” His daughter asks brightly. “That sounds perfect to me.” 

And for the first time in weeks, if not longer, she feels as though everything is slowly clicking into place.

The one thing that Marco wanted, other than to put an engagement and wedding ring upon her finger, was to have a family with her. He knew she was the one for him early on and could not see himself with anyone else, and in a way, there hadn’t been anyone else. He’d given his body to barely a handful of other women, but his mind was never fully on them and he hadn’t wanted to lie and make them think more would be offered than it was.

For him, it was always her.

He knew she’d moved away for a job once they’d split, so he didn't have to feel as though he’d needed to hide away in case he saw her around the city. Which is why, when he turns the aisle with his shopping cart, the last person Marco expects to bump into, is her.

He catches the wince that she pulls before turning, fully prepared to cast her most scathing look in his direction when he catches her off guard. Her expressions change so quickly, he can barely take them in until she settles on confusion.

“Marco.”

“Come here often?” He says, kicking himself for appearing flirty so soon; especially after she all but broke his heart. Her expression holds for another few seconds before her lips twitch into a smile and he knows he’s got her again.

“Not recently, but it might become my local. Again.”

“You’re back?” This time, the confused expression is his. He scans her face for any sign of lying but when he finds none, he asks, “and what’s brought you back?”

“Work, as always. And a good school. Plus, y’know, my parents are here and I need all the support I can get.”

“You’re a teacher now?” He asks, eager for any nugget of information about her new life that she can give.

She almost laughs, he knows her body language well to know and suddenly he feels as though he’s the punchline of a joke he’s not aware of. “Not for me, no.” she gives a strained smile and coughs to clear her throat as she places the jar she’d been holding into her own cart before continuing. “For my son.”

“S…son?” He stammers, eyes widening as he feels he’s been punched in the stomach. For someone who didn’t want commitment, a child was certainly the opposite of that. The way she delivered the line was anything but confident and he realises now that she knows how this would all seem to him. “And, your partner? Boyfriend?” he pauses and swallows bitterly before quickly glancing at her hand, “husband?”

“Ex. And he is no longer in the picture. You could say that I got a taste of my own medicine from you with me now being a single mom.”

“I wouldn’t, no.” Marco shakes his head. Not even when she’d collected her things from his had he wished anything bad upon her. “But I also wouldn’t have left you if there was a child.”

“I know.” she nods, her words dripping with sadness. “You’re a world and league above him Marco.” She sucks in a breath as she debates how to say her next sentence. “It really was about me, and not that I didn’t want that with you.”

“I’m trying not to take it that way.” he gives a strained smile and the sight of it twists a knife in her gut.

“Look at me. I only came for something for dinner and I’m pouring out a sob story that you probably don’t care about.” she forces a laugh, running her thumb beneath her eye to wipe a stray, humiliating tear away.

“Not true.” He disagrees, “I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t care.”

“I should let you go,” she says, straightening her back as she looks in his cart, “you probably have someone at home waiting for you to cook for them.”

A well played sentence, Marco thinks. Enough of a statement to disguise the question that lurks beneath the surface. “Just me. As always. Besides, you always complained that the place was too small. I wouldn’t want to put that on someone else.”

“You still live there?” She blinks in surprise, certain that he would have relocated by now.

“I’m happy there.” He shrugs. “But erm, I’ll let you go and finish your grocery shopping. But if you need a friend or anything, you know where I am.”

“After everything I did? You’d still be there for me?”

“I was never good at giving up. You should know that.” He replies, giving her a little nod and turning his cart around, needing to get out of the store and catch his breath in the cool air where he can think clearly and rationally. But if there was one thing Marco knew from this meeting, it was that it wouldn’t be the last he’d see of her.

Thank you 🥹 my second idea is that marco keeps stealing someone’s parking spot at the block of flats he lives at so like the big woman our girl is, she scratches his car with her key after he ignored post it notes that she left on his car to ask him to not park there again. Marco watches from his apartment window as she gets from her car and all but stomps over to his. He knows what’s coming because both he, and a neighbour three doors down, have the same car. And it’s the neighbour who keeps parking in her spot. She often mistook Marco’s car, in his own spot, as her spot and the neighbours car.

He’d come down from the apartment complex many times to find an angrily written post it note stuck to his windscreen. It had amused him long enough to not react, especially as he’d kept his silence whenever she’d rant to him across their balcony about the asshole neighbour, even on the days it was his car she’d targeted. But today, today she was full of rage and a simple post-it will not suffice. Marco watches as she presses a button on her car key fob, pushing the key out and she takes it to the side of the car.

“Oh you’ve got to be shitting me,” Marco says, pushing away from the window and grabbing his jacket and hastily pulling on his shoes before heading to where she is. “Have I done something to piss you off?” Marco calls out as she begins to head back to her car.

“This isn’t your concern.” She yells over her shoulder and continues back to where her car waits with the car door open. “Go back inside.”

“It is my concern when you’re keying my car for no good reason.”

This has her pausing before she looks back at him. “Your car? No, no, no. You know this is his car.”

“No,” he corrects, “I know it’s mine.” he holds up his own key fob and presses a button, allowing her to watch as the lights flash and the unmistakable sound of the locks opening.

“You’ve been parking in my spot?” The look of betrayal etched onto her face.

“I’ve been parking in my own spot. Yours is there,” Marco gestures, pointing out the same make of car in her space. When he looks back at her, her expression has fallen, her cheeks have darkened in colour with shame and she’s trying her hardest to muster words but all she can do is open and close her mouth as words fail her. “But you just see the car and see red and all rational thought goes out.”

“I’d have known,” she tries to argue.

“I have enough of your notes in my home that says otherwise. Now, what will we do about this?” he asks, running his fingers over the deep scratches within the metal work. “If it wasn’t in my car, I’d be amused.”

“Marco, I’m so sorry.” Her cheeks deepen again, the tip of her nose catching a little of the colour too. “I’ll pay for the damage.” running a hand over her hair, she looks visibly mortified. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Didn’t realise you were prepared to take it this far. Anyway, you also said you’d go on a date with me a few weeks ago. So we’ll see which materialises first, hmm?”

“I’ll make it up to you. I promise.”

“What are you doing this weekend?” He asks her, swinging the keyring around his finger while he stuffs the other hand into his pocket.

“Having a date with you most likely.”

“Good answer.”

A Little Warmth.

Marco, unlike a lot of the “men” you’d countered previously, was not freaked out by the word “period” and did not shy away from helping strip the bed if you got your period early. Snack runs and any sanitary product you needed was not something that made him embarrassed. He’d enter the store armed with a screen shot of the exact product you’ve requested and buy everything without an ounce of shame.

He’d buy comfort foods, make the meals that he knew you loved and craved around this time of the month and run you a bath, ensuring that oversized pjs had been warmed on the radiators ready to be put on. Hot water bottles were filled in preparation. Marco knew you needed comfort during this time and he’d do everything he could to ensure that happened.

Today, you needed comforting, you just didn’t know how. A hot bath had done nothing for your cramps but had made you feel sleepy. You felt hungry but sick at the thought of eating. You were tired but too awake. You craved a cuddle from Marco but wanted for him to be nowhere near you, only to sit and pout because he wasn’t close to you after either one of you had moved.

When you let out a pained whimper, Marco sighs and shakes his head. “Come here.”

“No.”

“Come. Here.” He says more sternly, already moving the cushions behind him and opening his legs.

You know you don’t have a choice, he’s pulled you into his lap more often than you can say when you’ve been in this kind of mood and he always made you feel better for it. Your stubborn ass just wouldn’t admit it until he took charge.

You’re still hesitant. Moving slowly as you make your way between his legs until your back is pressed to his chest. He starts carefully, enveloping you into a hug which makes you melt into him. He splays his hands over your lower abdomen, the heat from them soothing your aches and cramps in a way that you didn’t have to admit helped, your soft moan does that for you instead.

“Helping?”

You hum, giving a small nod too as you say, “yes.”

“Want me to get you a hot water bottle?”

“No, stay here.” you instruct, “but soon.”

You almost feel silly for the way you’re acting, with the sucking in deep breaths and holding it there until they pass, but the cramps have been getting worse as the day goes on and right now, the only thing giving you any relief is his large, warm hands. You make careful, precise strokes by placing your hands on his, pressing down and pulling back up again in massage strokes until he begins to do this automatically.

“Do you want me to dim the lights?”

“Now isn’t the time to get romantic.” Your tone is light and he knows you’re grinning as you say it.

“Always worth a try.” He gives a light kiss to your hair.

“It would be nice though,” you say.

“You’re sure?” he asks and you nod before leaning forward, grimacing a little as your belly twinges.

Marco moves out from behind you, taking care not to nudge into you before he strides across the room and adjusts the lighting. His fingers move to the top of the mantel above the fireplace, hand only lowering once he’s retrieved the firelighter and begins to light the candles that are dotted around the room. It’s a nice touch, and a gesture that makes you smile.

“Thank you,” you quietly say as he takes his place behind you again and tugs up your clothing until his hands are pressed to your bare skin. And only then does he continue to give you the same pressure and care that he had before. He can feel you relaxing against him, the soft hums that reach his ears makes you smile and soon, he’s humming a song of his own as your fingers stroke over the tops of his arms contently.

Single parent multi player series

Yes yes I know. Hi, I'm Amy and I have an addiction to new plots and taking requests even when I shouldn't. So sue me. 

I will also probably look to do a multi chapter of one person with the idea that I have in mind, but because of so many people putting forward some excellent suggestions, I'm temporarily opening up single dad requests.
