Paramount Plus Invests in Local Content, Expanding Its Pipeline of Premium International Originals
PARAMOUNT+ INVESTS IN LOCAL CONTENT, EXPANDING ITS PIPELINE OF PREMIUM INTERNATIONAL ORIGINALS
Streamer Announces Plans to Commission 150 International Originals by 2025,
Latest Commissions from Around the World include Sinaloa’s First Lady; One Must Die; Murder of God’s Banker; The Sheikh (Der Scheich); A Thin Line; MASK: Marie Antoinette Serial Killer and Circeo (Italy)
Announcement Comes in Advance of the Service’s Expansion to the UK and Ireland on June 22
June 20, 2022: Paramount+, the global streaming service from Paramount Global (NASDAQ: PARA, PARAA) (“Paramount”), today announced its investment in internationally originated content with a slate of original series that will debut around the world, a first step towards the streamer’s plan to commission 150 international originals by 2025. The news comes in advance of Paramount+’s expansion to the UK and Ireland on June 22, Italy in September, Germany, Switzerland, Austria (GSA) and France in December.
Paramount+ offers an expansive lineup of premium locally originated programming, in addition to its global content, serving all types of audiences in all markets where the service is available.  The originals will be produced in partnership with VIS, Paramount’s international studio, which is a division of the company’s vast worldwide studio footprint that spans more than 20 countries.
The new slate follows the streamer’s announcement of originals from around the world, including: Sexy Beast (UK), A Gentleman in Moscow (UK), The Chemistry of Death (Germany), Los Enviados (The Envoys) (Mexico), Cecilia (Mexico), Bosé (Spain), Fallaci (Italy), At Midnight (Mexico), The Signal (France), Impact (France), and more.
“Paramount’s story began with the longest running studio in Hollywood, and today we span the globe with our worldwide production studios that create hits for audiences around the world, which now live all in one place: Paramount+. As the service continues to expand internationally, there’s a great opportunity for content to travel globally, opening up a world of opportunities for talent and creators as we plan to commission 150 international originals by 2025, while delivering incredible value to subscribers on Paramount+,” said Marco Nobili, Executive Vice President and International General Manager of Paramount+.
The slate includes the following titles:
Murder of God’s Banker (International): This 4-part docuseries recounts the murder of Italian fugitive banker Roberto Calvi, whose body is found hanging off a London bridge. Although his death was initially declared a suicide, it is later uncovered that many wanted Calvi dead. He had presided over the collapse of a major Italian bank whose largest shareholder was none other than the Vatican. This revelation blows the lid off the secretive world of the Vatican’s financial system- a world populated by priests, mobsters, and neo-fascists. What looks like the simple story of a dead banker becomes one of international intrigue. Produced by CreativeChaos vmg in association with VIS, to debut on Paramount+ in all international markets.
MASK: Marie Antoinette Serial Killer (France): An 8-hour young adult fantasy horror thriller created and developed by Executive Producers Beth Tapper and Mitch Watson. Leila Smith (Lockout, Hitman, Find Me in Paris) also acts as Executive Producer for the series. Based upon the novel “Marie Antoinette Serial Killer” by author Katie Alender, the series follows four young American girls on spring break in Paris. While exploring the edgy side of the city, they find themselves caught up in a mysterious, almost supernatural murder spree that soon becomes very personal. Could the murderer be the ghost of the late queen Marie Antoinette? And why is it chasing them? Currently in advanced development, the series is produced by leading prodco Cottonwood Media (David Michel, Cécile Lauritano & Zoé Carrera Allaix) and VIS. It will debut exclusively on Paramount+ in France and all international markets.
A Thin Line (Germany): Young “hacktivist” twin sisters Anna (Saskia Rosendahl) and Benni (Hanna Hilsdorf) are inseparable in their quest to expose environmental wrongdoing by any means necessary. But when their hack into a government server leads to a police raid, Anna is captured and Benni disappears into the underground. When it becomes apparent Benni is lending her skills to a radical new terrorist group that does not shy away from violent action against state and corporations, the sisters suddenly find themselves on opposite sides of the question: What line are you willing to cross for something you believe in? Produced by Weydemann Bros. Serial Drama in association with VIS, to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in all international markets.
The Sheikh (Der Scheich) (Germany): Inspired by true events, The Sheikh tells the story of a one-of-a-kind con artist. Ringo (Björn Meyer), a simple man ridiculed as the village idiot in his hometown, reinvents himself as the heir of an Arabic fortune. With nothing but a bunch of tall tales and a fabricated bank statement for $8 billion, he becomes every Swiss investor's dream, bringing Switzerland's political and economic system to the brink of a national crisis. Created and written by multi-award-winning filmmaker Dani Levy (Alles auf Zucker!, Die Känguru-Chroniken), who directs together with Johannes Naber (Curveball, Zeit der Kannibalen), and stars Petra Schmidt-Schaller, Sylvester Groth, Carol Schuler, Philippe Graber and Pasquale Aleardi in additional roles. The tragicomic series is produced by X Filme Creative Pool and VIS, to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in all international markets.
CIRCEO (Italy): CIRCEO tells the story of the aftermath of the crime that came to be known as "The Circeo Massacre”, which upset Italy in the 1970s, after two teenage girls were found in the trunk of a car in Rome, naked, wrapped in blankets and drenched in blood. One was dead, the other one alive. Focusing on the trial that followed and centering on the lone surviving victim, Donatella, the series reflects on a watershed moment in the path of the emancipation of Italian women, demanding (and eventually obtaining) the wholesale revision of laws on sexual violence. CIRCEO is written by Flaminia Gressi, Viola Rispoli and Lisa Nur Sultan and directed by Andrea Molaioli. Produced by Cattleya in partnership with VIS for Paramount+ and Rai in Italy, the series will also debut on Paramount+ in France and GSA.
Sinaloa’s First Lady (Mexico): Starring and produced by John Leguizamo with Frida Torresblanco also producing, this narrative series will chronicle the fascinating yet volatile life of El Chapo's infamous Beauty Queen Bride, Emma Coronel — an innocent farm girl turned fierce icon who rises to become Mexico's most formidable crime wife. A story of love, sex, drugs, and danger. Produced by VIS in association with Braven Films, the series has been greenlit for development to debut exclusively on Paramount+ in Latin America and all international markets.
One Must Die (Mexico): A suspense thriller movie that centers around seven people who are kidnapped and suddenly find themselves part of a deadly game. As the clock ticks, to survive the seven participants must choose one to die and the chosen one will have to agree. Starring the talented Manolo Cardona, Maribel Verdú, Carla Adell, Juan Carlos Remolina, Adriana Paz, Dagoberto Gama, Fernando Becerril, and director Manolo Cardona. Produced by VIS in association with 11:11 FILMS to debut exclusively in all international markets.
Paramount+ also revealed casting details for the previously announced original, The Chemistry of Death (Simon Becketts Die Chemie des Todes) (Germany), which will debut on the service in all international markets:
The thrilling psychological crime series based on Simon Beckett’s bestselling novels will star Harry Treadaway (Penny Dreadful, Mr Mercedes, Star Trek: Picard) as forensic anthropologist Dr. David Hunter, alongside Katie Leung (The Peripheral, The Wheel of Time), Jeanne Goursaud (Barbarians, Para: We Are Kind), Nick Blood (Close to Me, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Amy Nuttall (Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?, Downton Abbey), David Hayman (Fisherman’s Friends, Top Boy) and Hardy Krüger Jr (Uppercut, Stauffenberg). Shooting of the six-episode series began mid-May and will cover locations in Scotland and Norfolk until the end of August.

(Marco Essepi) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPYZ-M0lOVc/?utm_medium=tumblr

I saw some translations that say Zeke is a traitor to Marley and that he had a plan all along with Paradis. If the story does go that way, I'm gonna be really disappointed, because I think it just makes no sense. What do you think?
From the translations, it heavily implies it’s a scheme he set in motion since he came back from Paradis, all that while he was at war with the MEU. Thinking about it, there’s no specific clue he’s entirely for Paradis, starting with not actively plotting against his team (ie. not telling them who the Warhammer was, unless he himself didn’t know it). Turns out Zeke has an interesting offer for Paradis, and this is why the SC is swallowing their pride at the moment. Probably for 3 years. Through Yelena, that’s how they got knowledge from Marley. I found it odd that Levi wasn’t going apeshit on him, Connie and some soldiers affected are fine as well.
Makes me think Zeke tries to rescue Eren from Paradis’ rule just as he’s rescuing himself from Marley’s rule. By faking his death: he escapes his role as a warchief, nobody will pursue him and his grandparents won’t be executed.
I'm getting increasingly annoyed at people's defense towards Eren like i saw someone comment that Floch agreeing with Eren's motives proved what he did was right like ??? fJKLJRGAERKJh GOD STOP EREN CAN DO THINGS WRONG. I still think Floch might be a manipulator but that's just a speculation of mine.
Floch is Eren’s fanboy and a Trump parody. He’s basically the most right-wing of the survivors from the capture of Wall Maria.
Well, Eren got what he wanted, at the price of moving the whole SL just to get his ass back and losing their trust. He’s not going to pull a stunt like that, next time. Though with Zeke around, he doesn’t need to. He’d be capable of threatening them under the fear
That Trapdoor woman looks like Armin just with Bertholdt’s height and eyes, he wanted to keep Armin all pure and young but why not create another of his clone where he looks all cold and is colossal 😏
Where’s my Yelena meta 2deep4me guys.
waiiittt i dont quite understand, hange asked zeke "has everything gone according to your plan" and hange said to eren "we lost all trust in you"+levi’s kick, and jean said to eren "you dragged us to this mess, sasha’s death is your fault". so does it mean that eren went to marley and massmurdered people there is something that is not part of zeke’s plan that everyone had agreed on, which lead to sasha’s death and unnecessary casualties?
All the parties communicated through letters. Suffice to say, Eren was the unpredictable variable in the lot. I bet he announced everybody he was going to wreck the festival, kill the generals and get the Warhammer Titan. Considering Eren was carrying the Founder, Paradis couldn’t afford to let him go, or else they’re doomed.
That follows Eren’s mindset pre-timeskip: disregard for his superiors, hides the truth, does whatever he wants... Detention won’t change his attitude.
Wtf is with Hange’s character. They feel so inconsistent and secondary. I dislike the way Isayama has been treating them so far
Except relying on Armin and following Zeke’s plan without giving a second thought, their attitude of blaming Eren for the SL’s situation is consistent so far with what has been presented from chapter 85 (”You will be punished; do you really think you can escape the consequences?”) and chapter 89 (”Ah... I see”). It’s not just them: characters with a name are blaming Eren to some extent (except Floch, he and his goons needed his mindset as an excuse to piss on Liberio), even Mikasa who usually whiteknights for him, doesn’t approve of his actions.
Maybe the fandom won't forget about Sasha. Marco is still standing strong with the fandom (mostly bc of jeanmarco) but regardless, he fills a lot of fanart and the fandom in general.
Good argument. Though I see Sasha’s tributes being more prevalent here than in the Japanosphere from twitter. She’s not that popular anymore and Springles ranks low compared to the juggernauts of the fandom.
Ah yes, a bertholdt fan saying sasha died as a meme. Look at your fave first. He was the one who died as a pathetic meme. At least sasha was mourned and loved, cant say the same about your fave who died as an irrelevant titan food and keeps on becoming more irrelevant with each chapter because the guy you ship him with has more important things and people to worry about, you are a joke
I’m not sure how yelling for your friends’ names is a “meme” but next time try to come with a better argument rather than “no u” as a tentative of damage control.
"I love it when both Armin and Hange foreshadow a lot of losses… only for the SC to lose 6 people on the mission. Way to make Marley look like clowns." 1896, Zanzibar War: 500 dead for zanzibar, 1 wounded soldier for England. Taking the most extreme exemple, but what can they do? They are technologically outclassed, facing unknown flying weapon wielded by elite soldiers trained for killing titans. "plagiarized some fan-theories"... Huu, more like, some fan teories matched with Isayama's plan?
Pieck still had an anti-3DMG device attached on her back and only killed a minimum of soldiers, for... two or three dozens? And she lost 4/5th of her panzer unit. I expected the count-loss to be higher, but it looks like Eren’s tentative was a success.
I still maintain the whole “paid actors” thing is completely ridiculous. When I read the raws, I thought it was too convoluted. After meditating on it, I’m still dealing with plot-holes about the identity of who ratted the SC to Magath and Willy. If it’s Zeke, that means he arranged himself to see Marley and Paradis destroy each other, while plotting his escape. Even his last line of dialogue in this chapter sounds as fake as what he told General Calvi in chapter 93. Maybe this is going to be further detailed next chapter. The jig is up. Might as well deploy it.
(This actor dialogue straight up sounds like a redditor theory adapted in a crappy fanfic. The banter between Zeke and Levi was top cringe): like, not at all? I mean, it was perfectly in character from both sides? You may not like it, but it's perfectly consistent with either Levi's or Zeke's character?
Maybe it’s the Korean translation, and while it was in character, mentioning that actor game was... eh. I could do without.
