Man With a Guitar

Georges Braque created the oil painting Man With a Guitar in 1912 in the unique cubism style. Cubism began in the early 20th century as an artistic movement that abandoned the idea of art seen through one perspective and embraced the use of different angles and geometric shapes in order to challenge traditional forms. 

Braque uses dull gray, green, and brown tones to create a series of shapes suspended in space. Upon first glance, the painting seems to not resemble any familiar figure, however, upon further inspection particular shapes become noticeable. There appears to be the outline of a bent elbow as well as the bottom of a guitar. Braque intended for the painting to reveal new details to the viewers the longer they stared, which, I believe he accomplished.
