I pieced this quilt. The pattern is called Batty by Apples and Beavers. My friend Becky did the custom quilting. While the quilting was NOT cheap, it is incredible! It really brings the quilt to life! I could not be more thrilled! I’d love to know what you all think of it. The photos are Becky’s as I don’t have it back home yet. SPOOKTACULAR!!!

In high school in 2001, I drew a dragon.
He was an ocean-faring dragon named Prismata, the father of one of the main characters in a story I wanted to write called “Adrift.” The story centered around a small pond dragon named Koi that gets swept out to sea and meets a young sea dragon named Prism- Prismata’s son. Prismata has gone missing (”missing,” I know where he went, he ran off with Amethyst), leaving an imbalance in the local ecosystem’s hierarchy, as Prismata previously protected a huge swath of the ocean in the area. Prism has been struggling to hold onto the same territory against a young mongrel dragon named Rife that is determined to prove his worth. Koi arrives in the middle of this, and helps them to come to peaceful terms so they will take him home.
My mom, @mamaspark, adored the original drawing of Prismata, enough that she wanted to make a quilt of the drawing. In 2006, I redrew the drawing with a little simpler design, and she made the lineart into a pattern (pictured above, slightly chewed up by her cat, Finny, who was Helping as cats are wont to do). SIxteen years later, today, she presented it to me for my birthday!
The piecing on it is absolutely amazing, down to the little black claws that are actually individual pieces of fabric she stitched on with hair-thin thread. She sent it out for quilting to someone that quilted in the bubbles and the swirling water. The rainbow fabric on the edges came from a friend of hers. A lot of work and a lot of anxiety went into this, but it turned out perfectly imo!!
She made the grave mistake of telling me she almost put sparkly gems in the bubbles and colored the rainbow trail he makes in the water, but she chickened out because she was afraid to ruin it. I told her no amount of added rainbow would ruin this boy. So she still has it in her possession, hopefully to add rainbow to the bubbles, and I cannot wait to see it bedazzled!

Mama Spark’s PSA:
I am finding a minute to stand on my soap box about feeding bread to ducks and geese. I saw a sign posted in a group I belong to where they encouraged folks to feed the ducks and geese bread. DO NOT DO THIS!!
My daughter, @kedreeva , the bird expert, gave me a list of things you can feed them instead. Make a copy of it, re-post it. Ducks and geese are dying and becoming unable to migrate because we are feeding them bread. IT IS NOT GOOD FOR THEM!
Here is a list of what you can feed them that is good for them:
Peas (peas without sodium are GREAT for them, the niacin is muchly needed by ducks), oats (not instant oatmeal), corn, cooked rice, seeds, actual duck pellets, lettuce (not iceberg or spinach but any other kind), kale, sliced grapes, shredded squash, berries, melons, sliced stone fruits like peaches or plums, pears or apple cut up into bite sized pieces, sweet potato (not white potato), fresh beets, carrots, broccoli, quinoa, cooked whole wheat pasta…
Shouldn’t give: avocado (toxic), citrus fruit (interferes with calcium absorption and can cause egg laying problems), beans (especially dry, they’re toxic), iceberg lettuce (no nutrition), or bread (no nutrition and can swell/rot in the crop). Bread actually has so little nutrition for them that if they eat it while growing up it can cause a condition called angel wing which deforms their bones and leaves them unable to fly. It can also swell up with water and impact their crops or slow their digestive systems, or cause sour crop, which can kill them.
The goose in the photo is suffering from Angel Wing . It was likely fed bread as it’s bones were forming.
Please take a minute and share this post!

Finally have all three of these tops finished, backing made and batting rounded up. Ready to head to my long arm quilter. I’m super excited to have these finished. I’ve chosen the binding too. Still need to make that. The 4th one is completely finished already. These will be gifted to my great nieces for Christmas this year!
I added the eyelashes to these. I feel kind of bad that the first one didn’t get eyelashes. But it did get a bird! This is the first one I did as a pattern test. This is before it was quilted.

I LOVE this pattern. It’s very easy and goes together quickly. Pattern is called Unicorn Garden by Apples and Beavers.
Which one is your favorite?

I bought this “Guess how much I love you” panel and used a pattern from @villarosadesigns to make this adorable EASY baby quilt. The photos don’t really do it justice, it’s really adorable in person! Bought all the fabrics at @creativepassionsretreat quilt shop. This was a simple quilt but it turned out so well!! I found the exact same gray with the bunnies in the big squares in flannel to use for the back.

I bought the fabric to make this top for my grandson. He loves Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. I saw this pattern and knew the Thomas fabric would be perfect! I don’t enjoy garment making but I do love how it turned out. We are taking him to ride Thomas and Percy at the end of September. Hoping he will want to wear this on the train rides! Woo Woo!!

Just finished a layette for a baby shower I’ll be attending in March. 2 self binding blankets, reusable rags, teethers, crib sheets and burp cloths. Next up will be the baby’s quilt. I chose a really cool pattern but I think it will be a lot of work 😉🦌

For 2 years I gave plasma almost every week, twice each week. I can’t give since my breast cancer follow up treatment. I’m taking an Aromatase inhibitor. My tumor was 95% Estrogen receptor positive. Your body needs Aromatase to make Estrogen. So with out the enzyme to make it no cells can make Estrogen. Theoretically that means if any cancer cells were missed, they would starve. Anyway, I’m taking this for a minimum of 5 years.
I first met B at my donations. She was working at the center. She was SO good at hitting the vein the first time! I was always happy to see her. Well after trying for some time she told me she is expecting! They are doing the room in Winnie the Pooh. I decided I needed to make her some things for their nursery. I got a quilt top finished and yo the quilter before we left town for 3 months. I also made 2 crib sheets, 2 loveys, some burp cloths and some reusable wipes. I got the quilt back a few days after we got home. I got it bound and then messaged her to see if I could meet her at the plasma center to drop off “a little something”.
She was so surprised and thrilled. It just made my day! Here are a few photos of what I made and her with the quilt. Also her and I
