The two of you eye the classroom, bowing politely. You glance at Arajin and freeze, his eyes trained on a lone girl who had a listless expression. You look away, frowning meekly.

You and Arajin had been given a strange fate.

Chased by gangsters, running into a shrine as he found gun inside.

Yet as he pressed the trigger, you were grazed by the bullet as it lodges itself in his head.

You stood frozen as the genine.. Or, Saya for short. Had circled his body around your frightened form. Yet he grins in a friendly manner, meeting your unsure gaze.

You and Arajin eagerly question the genie and realize he was stuck with you, too.

Yet when Arajin told his wish, the thought of Mahoro Jin in his mind...

"Hmm.. What is it you wish for..?"Your eyes widen, mouth parting slightly as you trace the bandaid on your cheek. "Your friend wants to lose his virginity." Senya stated as you blink, face blank but nodding.

You knew your wish..

"I-I..." You take a timid breath of air, making sure Arajin wasn't in the room, you spoke.

Senya watches eagerly as your gaze became... Determined.

"I... Want to fall in love."

You pause in your footsteps, turning around. Facing the familiar teen in quiet suprise. "Matakara..."

Meeting your old childhood acquaintance, which shocked you.

You smile strainfully as his eyes shine intensely

His friends smile as they eye you as well, whispering to each other

"Ah, I can't belive this shrimpy-chick is Matakara's-" "-Shuuush! I wanna see this play out!"

You watch as your friend turns away and throws a look at his friends. Senya yells excitedly in your ears.

You gulp, walking away quickly.

He calls out your name urgently, yet you just start running as Senya screams.

"Oi! Why are you running!" Senya screams as you run into the girls' restroom. Holding your chest, breathing heavily.

"Eh~?" The leader drawls out, gazing at your features. But.. You didn't back down, merely holding out your arms to block Arajin from his sights.

You really didn't want your friend to go on that date with Mahoro...

You made yourself sick with worry, so..

"Follow them!" Senya exclaimed brightly, poking at your shoulder as he pushes you after them.

Leading you into the situation of hiding in bush as you watched Arajin and Mahoro on their date..

Senya kept giving you pep-talks as you try to focus your brain on anything else.

That was until.. Mahoro' brother showed up.

"Ha..." Marito breathes out, the fierce look you had given him.. It was raw, as if your eyes managed to land a hit on him.

Senya couldn't help but smirk, enjoying your confidence.

Before aiding Arajin into fighting the green haired delinquent.

Unfortunately, you as well.

"What is it exactly you wish for...?" Senya yells as you and Arajin scream together.

"I want to lose my virginity!"

"And..?"

With a small breath, you join.

"I want to fall in love!"

Bucchigiri?! Name Meanings Part 1

Making this post cuz I love researching stuff about names and languages and I feel the names chosen for the characters in "Bucchigiri?!" have a lot of meaning behind them. Please understand that my knowledge on Japanese is very limited, these are just surface level observations. Going to start with Arajin, Senya, Matakara, and Mahoro with this post, but I'm hoping to talk about the other characters eventually.

Tomoshibi Arajin / 灯荒仁

灯 (read most basically as "hi", meaning "light") relates to the word 灯火 ("tomoshibi") meaning "lamp" or "ignitor".

Beyond the transliteration of "Aladdin" to "Arajin", there are some things to note. 荒 ("ara") can mean several things:

1. wasteland; uncultivated land; desert

2. uncultivated; barren; desolate

3. unreasonable; absurd

仁 ("jin") relates to the Confucian concept of "ren", meaning "co-humanity" or "humaneness" in Chinese. It refers to the virtue of a person when reaching for higher ideals or being altruistic. Thus, as a whole, "Arajin" can be read along the lines of "Deserted Humanity" or "Uncultivated Virtue"

Senya / 千夜 and Ichiya / 一夜

千 ("sen", also read as "chi") means "one thousand" while 夜 ("yoru" or "ya") means "night." "Ichiya" has a similar structure but with 一 ("ichi") meaning "one". Together they are the "One Thousand and One Nights", playing off the Japanese name of the story (千夜一夜物語).

Asamine Matakara / 浅観音真宝

"Matakara" (真宝) was actually the first name here I realized had a relevant Japanese meaning. 真 ("ma", also read as "shin") is often used in names like "Makoto" or "Mahito" to mean "real" or "true". 宝 ("takara") is a common word denoting "treasure" or something precious. Thus, one can read the name as "True Treasure".

ADDITION: Director Hiroko Utsumi states in an interview that the name "Matakara" is also a play on the Japanese word "mahou" (魔法) which means "magic". This is because the character for "takara" (宝) can also be read as "hou".

"Asamine" can be divided into two parts, 浅 and 観音. 観音 ("mine") is actually the name of an important goddess-like figure in Chinese Buddhism, "Guanyin" (called "Kannon" in Japanese). She is associated with compassion and mercy with her full name meaning "[The One Who] Perceives the Sounds of the World". This seems to fit Matakara's image in the series so far, but the first part of his last name questions this. 浅 ("asa") can mean "shallow", "superficial", "frivolous", "wretched", or "shameful". I might go over the implications of each of these potential meanings in another post, but for now I'm just predicting that something about Matakara (or his brother Mitsukuni) might not be as it seems.

Jin Mahoro / 神まほろ

神 ("jin") can also be read as "kami" or "god". まほろ ("mahoro") is spelled with hiragana rather than kanji, reflecting how the ancient word "mahoroba" (まほろば) is written in modern Japanese. The term "mahoroba" refers to a far-off, perhaps illusory, land of peace and bliss. It's an ironic name given the idealized image of Mahoro versus how she really is.

Now that we know the blue genie name I propose the following ship names:

I would put something along the lines Genie's wish or Genie husbands in arabic but idk how make a ship name in that language (; ´-`)

And for Arajin x Marito: Mariteen or Marijin. My reason for this — other than it just sounds ok to me — is that in my language those words sound similar to "Maridín" which is a super uncommon and unused informal appreciative diminutive of the word Husband = Marido. Because of the -in being similar to adding -ito at the end it could also be seen as a way to say "Lil husband" and given that Arajin is shorter than Marito and he is fond of putting nicknames I can see Marito calling Arajin lil husband (I believe you won't find the word maridín even if you search it because it is way more used Maridito or simply Marido or any other spouse/partner nickname)

And ik Matakara x Arajin already has a ship name but how does Crimson angel sounds? Idk it just came to me since Matakara is such an angel and red is Arajin's signature color lol

Edit: Nevermind I just found out Maridin is a word that does in fact exist and it's also a city in Turkey ☠️ Funny it has its roots in arabic history and it means rebels though

Did a research of Mariteen and turns out the closest thing to an actual name it's a shoes shop called Maritin so I'll use Mariteen better 😂
