What are Feru and Madouka if not the equivalent of a married couple?

Questions I have to ask myself while watching Inuyasha:
Why am I doing this? For the sake of completion and (as weird as it sounds) as an offering.
Do I even like this show? I mean, kinda? Not all that much. I see potential, but if it followed the potential it’d be a vastly different show.
How much of this would I tolerate now if it wasn’t a nostalgia trip but a new show? Some, perhaps more than I’m giving credit for. Turn-offs: the bad relationship dynamics, the main villain not only dying and coming back three times but doing so in roughly the same way each time (just escalating), characters getting the superpower equivalent of the Idiot Ball all the time, the idea of devouring souls (both squick and ontological bullshit), most of the villains are just out to eat people, the length to filler/may-as-well-be-filler ratio
Why did I originally like it if I have those problems? 1.) Sesshomaru and Kikyo for mostly/entirely aesthetic reasons, respectively.¹ 2.) It was current at the time. 3.) Youthful folly. 4.) Being a weeaboo. 5.) It’s not the worst shounen anime? Like, I don’t know how it ranks compared to YuYu Hakusho (my shounen benchmark,² which is still not a lot of praise).
How strained are my D&D/TTRPG comparisons? I mean, they’re going to be. I don’t really have an answer to this one; it’s just a question that always comes up when I watch.
Other than those movies [friend] recommended, what will I watch next? Dunno. Something more mature would be great. An isekai would also be lovely, but Log Horizon‘s hiatus is indefinite (and wasn’t that great). I could traumatize myself with a Madouka rewatch, I guess. I probably should finish JoJo, but I feel like it’s there and can be done whenever.
¹ Sesshomaru hasn’t disappointed since, as his entire characterization either came in his introductory episode or has been making him pro-human. I’ve never liked Kikyo as a character, though, and now having watched the show and paid attention I kinda dislike her post-death characterization.
² JoJo is an entirely different beast: I like it because it’s campy.
I’d say Escaflowne is better than Inuyasha and be drawing a more apt comparison (save for, y’know, the setting), but it’s an outlier in quality so isn’t normally counted when discussing shounen shows.

The Brakes Stomped On -Open-
"Ummm..." The leader of the Black Blood Sluggers, 7 rookie X-Hunters from the Bagklock Universe, Miho Nishizumi, peers over the open top hatch of her and her team's Panzer IV tank, and saw what was in front of them, after suddenly experiencing an surge of energy, annd the brakes having to be stomped on. "What is it, Miho!?" The driver of the tank, Madouka, shouts to her team leader, and friend. "Someone or something is in front of the tank..." Miho said back to Madouka, looking rather nervous and bewildered.

This is a scene from Mahou Shoujo Madouka, featuring the character Mami. This scene was a huge inspiration to me. Her smooth technique and flair in using her weapons heavily inspired how I picture Maria using her twin P-90s
