NOAH Dream On 2022 Results, Upheaval Backstage as NOSAWA Fired; Dragon Gate Dead Or Alive 2022 - 5/5/2022; AJPW Champion Carnival 2022 Final - 5/4/2022; STARDOM, TJPW, BJW Results

Pro Wrestling NOAH
A lot of wild crap has gone on in the last 48 hours regarding Pro Wrestling NOAH, and, well, here’s where I am going to try to make sense of it all.
It started with an announcement that California-based indie Pro Wrestling Revolution, in association with the lucha-themed media company Masked Republic, helped secure a P-3 group visa for wrestlers both from NOAH and Dragon Gate. According to PWR’s Gabriel Ramirez:
“We’re combining these Japanese promotions’ storied athleticism and fighting spirit with the high-flying spectacle of the Pro Wrestling Revolution roster. California pro wrestling fans have a lot to look forward to in 2022.”
It would appear there are designs for wrestlers from both companies to start trickling in at PWR’s next show in July, into King Of The Indies in November, and possibly an event or two during WrestleMania Weekend in California next year, with both NOAH and DG able to hold shows there.
Ironic that it is these two promotions, as earlier today, it was revealed (primarily through a paywalled article at Voices of Wrestling), at DG’s Dead Or Alive 2022 event (see below) that Perros del Mal de Japon stable leader, and head booker of NOAH, NOSAWA Rongai had been fired from the company, with Kendo Kashin now acting as head booker. Apparently this came from higher-ups at CyberAgent (owners of both NOAH and DDT), unhappy with the amount of money being spent on indie talents. There was also talk of native roster members being very unhappy, and some talk that Rongai was a “puppet” of Keiji Muto. Which makes sense given the preponderance of late for wrestlers over 50-years of age winning major titles in NOAH.
YO-HEY is also gone, after turning down a new deal with NOAH, and it seems that the entire Perros del Mal de Japon stable is no longer in NOAH, meaning Super Crazy & Texano Jr. either won’t get their junior tag title shot, or that will be their final appearance. It could explain why Eita was so quick to drop the GHC junior title last weekend too. Eita still has DG to call home, and if the results at Dead Or Alive today are any indication, the rest of the Perros may be there for a while too.
Kendo Kashin as booker is laughable, as he is as much, if not more, a carny than NOSAWA Rongai. Keiji Muto being GHC Champion, while some absolutely wild shit, was still a draw for the company; Kazuyuki Fujita, on the other hand, was not, and ended in the most Kazuyuki Fujita way possible. Regardless, this news makes the results from the last two days interesting, as it gives indications as to which indie wrestlers NOAH values, and which they don’t. The answers may surprise (and sicken) you!

Sugiura-gun lose their tag titles mere days after retaining against Kongo. Kojima gets a direct win over Shiozaki heading into their GHC title match. Yoshioka & Susumu asserted themselves as the next challengers to their STINGER mates Ogawa & Ridgeway’s junior tag titles. Elgin pinning Nakajima… yuck.

Kitamiya and Elgin challenged Les Mexicanas for their tag titles. You can see who NOAH is valuing at the present moment. Kojima praised Inamura post-match, saying he has a strong future. Ninja Mack announced he has signed an exclusive contract (in Japan, I assume?) with NOAH, and will return in July. King Tany has quit Funky Express, meaning, I guess, Funky Express is over, and wants to go back to being Maybach/Shohei Taniguchi. That’s a bummer, Funky Express were one of the best things about NOAH.
The next show was supposed to be on Saturday in Fukushima, however due to an earthquake that affected Fukushima earlier today, that show is no longer happening. Perhaps for the best after all the upheaval in NOAH at the present moment, they can take some time to find their footing. An N Innovation show is listed for Yokohama Radiant Hall on 5/14/2022 as the next show.
Since Dragon Gate has come up quite a bit here, maybe we should do them next.

Yokosuka gets another direct win over KAI heading into their Dream Gate title match. Good thing this is never an omen for the actual title match, eh? Madoka Kikuta wrestles a special exhibition match with his partner at Dead Or Alive 2022, which we will get into…. Right now!
Dead Or Alive 2022 - 5/5/2022, Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium (DG Network)
Open The Twin Gate Championship: Shun Skywalker & Diamante [Z-Brats] d. Dragon Dia & Yuki Yoshioka [D’Courage] © (Skywalker > Dia, Cielo Finale, 14:01) - D’Courage fail their 4th defense - Sky Diamonds are the 57th champions

Open The Brave Gate Championship: Dragon Dia [D’Courage] © d. SB KENTo [Z-Brats] (Double Cork, 16:12) - Dia succeeds his 2nd defense
Open The Triangle Gate Championship: Eita, NOSAWA Rongai & Kotaro Suzuki [Perros del Mal de Japon] d. Kota Minoura, Naruki Doi & Kaito Ishida [Gold Class] © (Rongai > Doi, La Magistral, 13:15) - Gold Class fail their 1st defense - Perros del Mal de Japon are the 78th champions
Open The Dream Gate Championship: KAI [Z-Brats] © d. Susumu Yokosuka [Natural Vibes] (Meteo Impact KAI, 24:53) - KAI succeeds his 3rd defense
Man. This is not a good day for stables who sing, dance and enjoy themselves. Susumu Yokosuka loses his challenge for the Dream Gate, letting down K-ness’s final wish for him. He must now go back to his given name, Susumu Mochizuki, and also depart from Natural Vibes. With that, Genki Horiguchi also announced he will leave the Vibes. It makes sense – Genki and Susumu have been partners, a lot, in several units (Jimmyz, Toryumon Generation, and Natural Vibes, and that’s just recently, off the top of my head) and indeed were co-founders with Kzy. Good thing Jason Lee just joined, eh?
Lucky for NOSAWA Rongai, the day it was announced he was fired from NOAH, he and the Perros gain the Open The Triangle Gate titles, handing the Gold Class trio their first loss since formation. D’Courage also get their first loss as a unit, giving the Twin Gate titles to Sky Diamonds; that said, Dragon Dia DID retain the Brave Gate title. I would have thought the opposite would be true. But I also don’t think D’Courage will be out of the Twin Gate scene any time soon either.
Madoka Kikuta did not join Z-Brats (tonight, anyway), and also got his ass handed to him on his return. Youch. After all that.
Konomama Ichikawa filled in for Punch Tominaga in the second match. Shachihoko Boy became Shachihoko Machine, with his mask altered to be like Super / Strong Machine / J. Takashi Yoshida filled in for Shuji Kondo in the third match.
DG run shows on Saturday and Sunday, before the King Of Gate 2022 tournament begins on 5/11/2022.

Yuma Aoyagi is now the youngest person to ever win Champion Carnival, at the age of 26. Shuji Ishikawa gets a direct win over Runaway SUPLEX heading into their tag title match on 5/14/2022 in Sapporo.
During intermission, a match for the upcoming Jumbo Tsuruta tribute show was announced, with Shingo Takagi’s mystery partner against Yuma & Atsuki Aoyagi announced as being T-Hawk of GLEAT/#STRONGHEARTS, making this is little reunion of the VerserK stable from Dragon Gate. Funny how DG keeps coming up in conversation here today.

What If... Dick Figures was an anime?
This has been on my mind for a while.
Simply put, I've been somewhat imagining what a Dick Figures anime would be like - and no, I'm not talking about something like that little parody bit from the movie. I'm talking a full-blown, completely unironic anime series that remains true to the spirit of the original series.
That said, though... Come join me as we explore my big, impossible dreams for a Dick Figures anime!
ANIMATION STUDIO: SHAFT (Monogatari, Madoka Magica, Zetsubou-Sensei, ect.)
Whenever I think of a studio that would almost perfectly nail the style of Dick Figures, I think of SHAFT. They're known for the weird stuff: Colour palette switches, their signature head tilt, random art-style changes, and (most important for this series) use of real imagery. Seeing as the original Dick Figures series already uses real imagery at times (the Raccoon/Papa-san, Kitty Amazing, the turtle-dragon from "Traffic Jams", the genie from "Butt Genie" and the map from the Movie amongst many others) and is pretty absurd itself, SHAFT would pretty much be perfect for it.
CHARACTER DESIGNER: Koichi Kikuta (KonoSuba)
This part wasn't easy to figure out, as I needed one that would emulate the vibe of the original stick figure style without taking too much away from it. At the end of it, though, my choice ended up boiling down to this dude. His work from what I've seen is cartoony and fluent, which I think would fit just about perfectly for a series like Dick Figures - especially since the characters are... Well... Stickpeople (duh).
VOICE CAST:
Red: Yuusuke Kobayashi (Subaru Natsuki in Re:Zero) or Yuuki Ono (Josuke Higashikita in JoJo) Blue: Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo in JoJo, Yukito Kunisaki in AIR, The Junker in Planetarian, Mamoru Akasaka in Higurashi, ect.) or Tomokazu Sugita (Yuuichi Aizawa in Kanon) Lord Tourettes: Yui Horie (Hanyuu in Higurashi, Ayu Tsukimiya in Kanon, Tsubasa Hanekawa in Monogatari, ect.) Pink: Chiwa Saitou (Hitagi Senjougahara in Monogatari, Homura Akemi in Madoka Magica, Kotori Kanbe in Rewrite, ect.) Stacy: Satsuki Yukino (Mion Sonozaki in Higurashi) Broseph: Yuuki Ono (Josuke Higashikita in JoJo) The Raccoon: Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo in JoJo, Yukito Kunisaki in AIR, The Junker in Planetarian, Mamoru Akasaka in Higurashi, ect.) Mr. Dingleberry: Chafurin (Ooishi Kuradashi in Higurashi)
EPISODE LAYOUT
This was a bit difficult to figure out, due to the nature of the original Dick Figures series. Having every episode be the full 24 minutes would probably be too dragged out, but five scenarios per episode would make things too crammed.
However, I can picture one way this can work: If there's two segments in each episode. There's 50 episodes in total (aside from Figured Out, which we'll get to in a bit), so if we put 2 into each episode, we'd get 25 episodes of this anime version in total, which I feel like is a fair number.
As for the movie, that can be released after the final episode. As well as that, I also imagine that it'd be cool if they also adapted Figured Out into an OVA series alongside the movie meant to serve as the true series finale.
In fact... Having Figured Out as an OVA would actually work better due to potential pacing issues if it was put at the very end of the movie - and since it's only one story they'd need to adapt, they can go all out and spend as much episodes as they need fleshing out the episode from it's original montage format, so maybe we'll be able to learn more about the characters' futures.
Now for the big question: Would it be an adaptation of the original series, or a new story?
Well, I guess it can go both ways. If they want to re-imagine the series for a new audience, then I guess they can go ahead and adapt the original series. In fact, an adaptation that still changes things up would actually benefit the series most, since the original really hasn't aged the best (offensive jokes, Trollz0r literally just being the 2010s version of r/FellowKids, ect.).
That said, however, it would probably benefit SHAFT (or whatever other studio takes it) morer if they went with a new story that remained true to the original series - as long as they don't mess it up, of course (Lookin' at you, Magia Record anime - Don't think I've forgotten how dirty you guys did my girl Kuroe).
But hey, this is all just my personal opinion. What do you guys think? Do you think these ideas would be ideal for a Dick Figures anime, would you imagine it differently, or do you just think the series is already good enough on its own? Be sure to let me know in the reblogs or replies!

Voices of Wrestling Match of the Year 2023 x FSM50 2023
As a voter in the Voices of Wrestling (VOW) Match of the Year (MOTY) 2023 poll this year, I thought that it would be interesting to compare that poll's data against the FSM50 Best Wrestlers in the World list, which is also currently hosted by VOW.
In theory, there should be high correlation between the 50 best wrestlers ranked by the 11 FSM50 panelists and the wrestlers involved in the top matches of the year as voted upon the 221 voters from 24 countries. The goals of the FSM50 list and the VOW MOTY list are highly aligned. As contributor Alan4L stated in the introduction to the FSM50 list, the "goal of the list is to be as well-informed and wide-ranging as possible," while VOW touted that its MOTY list is poll has 221 voters from 24 countries and 380 matches across 79 promotions worldwide.
Below are initial thoughts from the comparison of the FSM50 to the VOW MOTY list; they are neither comprehensive nor indisputable, and reasonable minds may come to different conclusions from the data. (I'm also hampered by Tumblr's lack of tables; if I had access to tables, I would present the data in full instead of snapshots of Google Sheet tables.)
I. FSM50 2023 #1-10
Tumblr media
Will Ospreay is undeniably the best wrestler in the world. He ranked 1st in the FSM50, and he outscored all other wrestlers by far in the VOW MOTY (3701 points, compared to Kenny Omega in 2nd place at 3019). In 2023, he wrestled 70 matches (per Cagematch), and 19 of those matches were in the VOW MOTY list. Moreover, 9 of his matches were in the VOW MOTY top 100.
Bryan Danielson was correctly ranked as the 2nd best wrestler in the world. He ranked 2nd in the FSM50, and he ranked 3rd by points in the VOW MOTY. Whereas Ospreay wrestled frequently and in companies around the world, Danielson focused his energy into just 29 matches. Of those matches, an incredible 15 were in the VOW MOTY list, and 8 matches (or 27.59%) of his matches were in the top 100.
Kenny Omega was underrated by the FSM50 contributors. He also wrestled 29 matches in 2023, and 8 of them (or 27.59%) were in the top 100. He actually ranked 2nd by points in the VOW MOTY list, but he was 9th in the FSM50.
Yuma Aoyagi, Kazuchika Okada, and Mike Bailey were overrated by the FSM50 contributors. Aoyagi was 5th in the FSM50, but he only had 3 of his 86 matches in 2023 in the top 100, and he ranked 19th by points. Okada was 6th in the FSM50, and he had 9 of his 97 matches in 2023 in the top 100. At 162 matches, Bailey was one of the most prolific wrestlers in 2023, but he only had 1 match rank in the top 100.
(One could claim that Aoyagi and Bailey are hampered by the visibility of their respective home companies, but that claim wouldn't apply to Okada.)
II. FSM50 2023 #11-20
Tumblr media
Adam Page and Swerve Strickland immediately stood out as underrated. Based on points, Page was 4th and Strickland was 5th, but they were 18th and 19th respectively in the FSM50. Page's low number of matches in 2023 may have hampered him; at 24 matches, he has the fewest matches among the FSM50. With 5 of his 24 matches in the VOW MOTY top 100, he also doesn't meet the level of memorable greatness that Danielson, who only wrestled 4 more matches, reached. Strickland wrestled more matches, but fewer of his matches (2 of 40) ranked in the top 100. Both Page and Strickland were buoyed by a top 10 placement.
Katsuhiko Nakajima is the counterargument to the point that Aoyagi was hampered in the VOW MOTY poll by AJPW's visibility. Wrestling in NOAH and AJPW, Nakajima had the same number of matches in the top 100 (3) but his matches were more impressive (2 matches in the top 20).
Madoka Kikuta and Giulia are overrated in the FSM50. Kikuta wrestled 174 matches in 2023, and he had 3 matches in the VOW MOTY and 2 matches in the top 100. Similarly, Giulia wrestled 126 matches, and she had 3 matches in the VOW MOTY and 2 matches in the top 100.
Titan, Mistico, and Soberano Jr. all represent CMLL's resurgence this year, and they were all overrated in the FSM50 as well. (Titan had 2 of 144 matches in the top 100; Mistico had 1 of 165 matches in the top 100; Soberano Jr. had 1 of 138 matches in the top 100.) Their high rankings in the FSM50 compared to their comparatively lower performance in the VOW MOTY could be attributed to the lucha libre's stylistic differences, language differences, or voting cannibalization.
III. FSM50 2023 #21-30
Tumblr media
Claudio Castagnoli stood out as underrated by the FSM50 panelists. Of his 67 matches in 2023, 6 placed in the top 100; 11 appeared in the overall list.
Eddie Kingston, Castagnoli's rival, also stood out as potentially underrated. Of his 57 matches in 2023, 5 placed in the top 100; 9 appeared in the overall list.
Many wrestlers in this set (Suzu Suzuki, Yuma Anzai, Big Boss Shimizu, Maika) appear to be overrated, and their common trait is that they wrestle in less prominent companies (Stardom, AJPW, Dragongate). They would appear to be overrated at first blush.
IV. FSM50 2023 #31-40
Tumblr media
Axel Tischer is either toiling in obscurity in wXw and other European companies or was severely overrated by FSM50's panel. None of his matches in 2023 appeared in the VOW MOTY list. Given that the VOW MOTY list had 6 wXw matches this year, the initial inferences are that Tischer's proponents need to highlight his standout performances better for 2024 or that he appeals to the FSM50 panelists but not the larger VOW MOTY voting body.
One could ask similar questions about Manabu Soya, who was more heavily pushed in NOAH after the N2 tournament. However, Soya's sole appearance in the VOW MOTY list was a six man tag between Kongo and Zennichi Shin Jidai.
While Fuminori Abe placed in the FSM50 top 10, his Astronauts tag team partner, Takuya Nomura, seems to be underrated by the FSM50 panel. Is there such a great difference in quality between Abe and Nomura?
Chris Brookes is underrated by the FSM50 panelists. He carries a reputation for being a little goofy, and he wrestled primarily in DDT, which is not taken with the same gravitas as NJPW, AJPW, or NOAH.
Did Yuji Okabayashi's absence after June 2023 affect FSM50 panelists' voting?
V. FSM50 2023 #41-50
Tumblr media
Given his point total in the VOW MOTY list, Tetsuya Naito seems greatly underrated by the FSM50 panelists. However, Naito's low ranking in the FSM50 could be based on the fact that Naito, at 41 years old, is able to reach great heights when it really matters (G1 Climax Semifinal and Final, prominent interpromotional matches against Keiji Muto, Kenoh, and CMLL wrestlers during Fantasticamania), but he exerts low effort in his other matches. He wrestled in 115 matches in 2023, and only 5 placed in the overall list. Of those 5, 3 made the top 100.
Kaito Kiyomiya's 2023 was a land of contrasts, as he ranked lowly in the FSM50 and highly in the VOW MOTY. Could the mistreatment he received from his bookers have affected the perception of Kiyomiya's quality as a wrestler?
VI. FSM50 2023 Honorable Mentions
Tumblr media
One could pull wrestlers from the list of honorable mentions, such as Yuya Aoki and Mark Briscoe, into the top 50 based on their point totals in the VOW MOTY. Digging deeper, Aoki benefited from his sole match in the VOW MOTY list ranking in the top 20; to the voters, BJW has lower visibility than Impact Wrestling, GCW, and AJPW.
A notable omission from the FSM50 is Maxwell Jacob Friedman, who scored 762 total points in the VOW MOTY list. That is the 7th highest score total in the VOW MOTY, and he is a divisive figure based on the understanding that he was responsible for some of the worst creative decisions in AEW in 2023. His effect on AEW seems to be the source of his omission from the FSM50; the panelists did not seem to favor his particular flavor of ice cream.
WWE as a whole seems to be underrepresented in the FSM50. While WWE's in-ring and presentation styles do nothing for me, Sheamus. Drew McIntyre, and Sami Zayn should have been considered for at least honorable mentions based on their VOW MOTY point totals (277, 277, and 151, respectively).
FTR, Jay White, and Juice Robinson were other notable omissions from AEW. FTR scored 282 points, while White and Robinson had 247 points each.
The average age of wrestlers in the FSM50 was 33.90 years old, but there is a potential youth movement coming (14 wrestlers under 30) to counter the dominance by older wrestlers at the top (8 of the top 10 and 16 of the top 20 are 30 and older).
In particular, wrestlers like Kiyomiya, Vikingo, Takeshita, Kikuta, and Skywalker seem well positioned based on their age and their VOW MOTY point totals this year to make a leap in FSM50 ranking in 2024.

Madoka Magica 2015 Calendar Review - Part II
Tumblr media
I’d say we’re off to a bad start with Part II. Before I address the elephant in the room, I’ll mention that this is reasonably functional as a calendar. The month and all the dates are easy to see (2015 isn’t there but we’re 7 months in and if you forgot the year then that’s your problem) and Marine Day of all dates is marked. As for the elephant in the room, this illustration is by one Akio Watanabe, whose only other connection to Madoka I could find was doing the cover art for the 3rd 4koma anthology, though he also did in-between animation for Kiki’s Delivery Service and is the character designer for some random magical girl hentai OVA. That latter role is relevant because of course this image is quite fanservice-y. Madoka’s rear and legs, Mami’s thighs, midriff and breasts, it’s all there. Heck, Madoka’s face and hands are both right up in Mami’s breasts. I’m not really all that fond of this one, in fact, it’s my least favourite of the bunch. I like the little Kyubey flying above July though, so there’s a saving grace.
Tumblr media
And the fanservice continues with this drawing by Koichi Kikuta, whom did some key animation for Eternal and Rebellion, as well as various other anime staff roles. I actually don’t mind this fanservice as much, because it’s a bit more normal. They’re playing beach volleyball, what do you expect? It’s not as forced. However, it’s still fanservice, and even some loli fanservice at that. Woohoo. I actually don’t like the art style in this one, Mami in particular just looks off. Calendar functionality is fine though, dates are easy to find and the month and year are clearly labelled.
Tumblr media
Finally no more fanservice, instead just weirdness that I like. The first row of numbers is formed by some ribbon Madoka’s carrying, Sayaka’s lazing about in school to form the second row, Mami’s ribbons form row 3, Kyouko’s food forms row 4, Homura’s uh, hair, forms row 5, while row 6 is long ear Kyubey and row 7 is Walpurgisnacht dress frills. It’s all weird and the parchment look of the whole thing makes it even weirder, but again, I really like it. The whole thing is by Takahiro Kishida, who adapted Ume Aoki’s character designs for the anime and he did a damn good job. Functionality as a calendar is a total mess though. For some reason it starts from the second row, goes straight down, and then jumps to the far left of the top row before zigzagging its way further down. It’s pretty stupid. This is also the only other illustration where the month isn’t actually written down in English, but there’s your 9 and your 2015 at the top. All in all, a good piece even if it’s a horrible calendar.
Tumblr media
It’s Gekidan Inucurry. You know them. They do all the witch and labyrinth visuals. It’s weird. Kyubey’s got a moustache. October is the month of Halloween so Homulilly becomes an even more traditional witch. She’s got a weird Madoka doll. She’s probably going trick-or-treating with the Clara Dolls. The days are somewhat ordered but it’s still messy. It says “March of rebels” for some reason, which is also misleading since it’s not March - it’s October, whcih it says at the top. This is one of my favourites.
Tumblr media
This illustration is by Etsuko Sumimoto, who did key animation for episode 11 and was assistant animation director for Rebellion. And I gotta be honest man, while this art is honestly really good and the teeny amounts of fanservice aren’t actually bad, this doesn’t look like Madoka Magica in the slightest. Madoka’s hair’s too long, Homura’s is purple, the clothing and accessories and weapons are mostly very un-Madoka-like, and when all of that combines with an art style drastically unlike Madoka, it just becomes unrecognisable. So while it’s very good, I can’t in good faith give it a positive score. Hella functional as a calendar though, so props for that.
Tumblr media
This one is just adorable! Like with May, this one is an almost perfect capture of the show’s art style, and that’s because it’s done by chief animation director Junichiro Taniguchi. And god damn, did he do good. This art’s just really good and really cute and it also looks Christmas-y, which is usually a necessity in December. The calendar is obvious and easy while simultaneously blending in seamlessly and in that regard coupled with the wonderful art it’s arguably the best illustration in the whole calendar. It would easily be my favourite were it not for Ume Aoki’s art being that little bit more beautiful, but this is still a very solid piece and definitely a good conclusion to the year of 2015.
Which was 3 years ago.
Well, that’s all. I hope you enjoyed my review. Here’s Part I

The last time Kikuta fought to win the Dream Gate Championship, he was across the ring from Shun Skywalker, the youngest champion Dragongate had ever seen. Due to an unfortunate injury, the match was halted prematurely, seeing Kikuta removed from action for an entire year.
Exactly two years later Kikuta fights again for the Dream Gate, this time against a considerably more insane and cruel Shun Skywalker in his second reign as champion. After a grueling battle, Kikuta succeeds, not only winning the belt from Shun Skywalker, but also the title of the youngest champion Dragongate has ever had at age 23.

Positive COVID-19 Tests Force Changes to NOAH (Fujita), NJPW (Fujinami + Ospreay) Supercards; NJPW Golden Fight Series Nights 8 + 9 - 4/27 & 4/28/2022; Accusations Against Chris Dickinson; Full Dead Or Alive 2022 Card; ZERO1 Otani Benefit Show Announced
I know I said I was gonna just do a post tomorrow initially, but too much has happened since Tuesday that it behooves me to do so.
COVID-19 is still a thing, especially in Japan. It’s now altered two of the Golden Week supercards.
The first announcement came yesterday from Pro Wrestling NOAH, where it was revealed a positive PCR test meant that Kazuyuki Fujita would not be able to defend the GHC Heavyweight title against Go Shiozaki on Saturday at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan. The title has been vacated, and Go Shiozaki will now face a TBD opponent. Kaito Kiyomiya put himself forward as Shiozaki’s opponent . Kiyomiya is already booked to team with Yoshiki Inamura against Naomichi Marufuji & a mystery opponent. We will see what becomes of this. The altered match(es) have not yet been announced.
There was a lot of snark on Twitter (and I contributed to some of it), because while I don’t think the COVID-19 diagnosis is anything but genuine, this is a very Kazuyuki Fujita thing to do, in order to get out of doing a job he doesn’t want to. Then again, I am not shy about my contempt for Fujita, and it may be coloring my reaction. That said, hope he recovers without too much difficulty.
This morning, NJPW announced that both Tatsumi Fujinami and Will Ospreay also both tested positive, and therefore would miss Wrestling Dontaku 2022 on Sunday from the Fukuoka Pay Pay Dome. Ospreay was supposed to be in the IWGP US Heavyweight title decision match against Hiroshi Tanahashi; that match is now Tanahashi v. Tomohiro Ishii. As for Fujinami, he will now be replaced by a mystery wrestler in the 6-man tag match with Shingo Takagi & BUSHI (himself a replacement for Hiromu Takahashi, who is now wrestling YOH in a singles match) against Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr. & TAKA Michinoku. I’m a little concerned for Fujinami – the man is 68 years old, hardly a spring chicken. Hoping he (and Ospreay) also recover soon.
Since we’re here, let’s wrap up the Golden Fight Series tour, shall we?

YOH vowed to finish Hiromu on Sunday.
Last night on Twitter, a series of posts from wrestler Christina von Eerie went out citing abuse, gaslighting, etc., from a former partner of hers, recent NJPW signing Chris Dickinson. Dickinson has denied any such abuse took place. All the tweets are out there. You decide what to do with the information. For myself, I’m pretty disappointed to hear of all this. I also know that NJPW typically does absolutely nothing regarding their non-Japanese talents being accused of anything (indeed, they rarely do for their Japanese talents), so I am not holding my breath for any repercussions to come from NJPW or NJoA. It’s a shitty situation, and one that continues to be all-too frequent in wrestling. Change needs to come.
The tour is over, and the next event is Sunday’s big Wrestling Dontaku 2022 from Fukuoka. The event will be shown live on NJPWWorld, and I think FITE TV as well if you want. Below is the revised card.
Wrestling Dontaku 2022 - 5/1/2022, Fukuoka Pay Pay Dome (NJPWWorld)

Dragon Gate
The full card for Dead Or Alive 2022 has been announced. The biggest noticeable thing is there is no Dead Or Alive Cage Match this year. Which is OK. We do not need to have The Dead Or Alive Cage Match every year just for the sake of having The Dead Or Alive Cage Match. We already have one man wrestling twice in two title matches, and a stipulation where someone has to leave a unit if they lose. It’s OK.
One note – Hip Hop Kikuta has now announced he is no longer Hip Hop Kikuta, but is going back to his given name, Madoka Kikuta. This really feels like they are over-egging Kikuta’s return where he will TOTALLY NOT BE JOINING Z-BRATS to where it’s becoming obvious HE IS TOTALLY JOINING Z-BRATS. They are not being subtle here.
Dead Or Alive 2022 - 5/5/2022, Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium (DG Network)
Open The Twin Gate Championship: Dragon Dia & Yuki Yoshioka [D’Courage] © v. Shun Skywalker & Diamante [Z-Brats]
4-Way Match: Shachihoko Boy v. Punch Tominaga v. Mondai Ryu v. Yosuke Santa Maria
Masaaki Mochizuki, Don Fujii, Yasushi Kanda & Shuji Kondo v. Strong Machine J, La Estrella, Ishin Iihashi & Takuma Fujiwara
Madoka Kikuta & Jacky “Funky” Kamei [Natural Vibes] v. BxB Hulk & HYO [Z-Brats]
Genki Horiguchi, Big Boss Shimizu & Jason Lee [Natural Vibes] v. Ben-K, Keisuke Okuda & Kagetora [HIGH-END]
Ryukyu Dragon Pro Wrestling Twin Ryuo Championship: Kzy & U-T [Natural Vibes] © v. YAMATO & Dragon Kid [HIGH-END]
Open The Brave Gate Championship: Dragon Dia [D’Courage] © v. SB KENTo [Z-Brats]
Open The Triangle Gate Championship: Kota Minoura, Naruki Doi & Kaito Ishida [Gold Class] © v. Eita, NOSAWA Rongai & Kotaro Suzuki [Perros del Mal de Japon]

Other News
Pro Wrestling ZERO1 will be holding a benefit show for Shinjiro Otani on 6/4/2022 from Tokyo Ota Ward Gymnasium. So far, support and participation has been pledged from NJPW (specifically Yuji Nagata, Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma, the latter of whom has had similar issues to what Otani has suffered), NOAH, BJW, 2AW, FREEDOMS, Ganbare!, OZ Academy, Diana and Tatsumi Fujinami. More details as they come.
In other tribute show news, another match has been announced for the Jumbo Tsuruta Memorial show on 5/31/2022 at Korakuen Hall. Shingo Takagi will team with a mystery partner, against the Aoyagi brothers, Yuma & Atsuki, from All Japan. Shingo has said his mystery partner may not be a member of Los Ingobernables, or indeed any other wrestler from NJPW.
More Fortune Dream 7 matches have been announced as well, as #STRONGHEARTS will take on AJPW in two matches. First, Takao Omori will face off against Issei Onitsuka, whilst CIMA & T-Hawk will take on the TOTAL ECLIPSE tandem of Jake Lee & Hokuto Omori. That’s on 6/15/2022 from Korakuen Hall as well.
In some final housekeeping news, if you follow my @StrongStylStory Twitter account, it will be changing its name to either @gdwessel (my current personal one, which I am retiring and merging into this one), or @GeoffreyWessel or @GeoffreyDWessel as a temporary measure if there is such a thing as Twitter time limits or something. We’ll see. Just a word of warning, this will be happening Sunday, probably AFTER I do that day’s post.
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow for the start of the Golden Week megacards.
