hey ferox! my cat is suffering from a tumor in her jaw (don't worry, this isn't an ask for medical advice). do you encounter facial tumors in cats more often than other types of cancer, or more often than in other animals? my vet seemed to think that it isn't an uncommon type, and i'd love to lean more about it, but i didn't think to ask a that moment. (for reference, the cat in question is a 12yo european shorthair)

Squamous Cell Carcinomas (SCCs, a type of skin cancer) are extraordinarily common in pale or white skinned cats, especially here in Australia where our UV exposure is so high. Other types of facial tumors, especially boney tumors, are less common, but SCCs can occur anywhere in the head or mouth fairly easily.

Idk if I already sent an ask, I'm very happy so forgive me if I did - but I just got my first chickens, a coffee and cream hen with five bresse chicks. even if i've read a lot, i'm still a beginner, so I wanted to ask for advice - I just put them in their own separate enclosure from the other hens (i share a pen with my neighbour's hybrid hens) and I'm feeding them a mix of oats, finely shredded carrots and some boiled egg. I'll vaccinate for newcastle soon (mandatory in my country (1/2)

they are already vaccinated for marek, too. Do you have any tips on raising them? Re food, socialisation, care... i'm pretty new for the hobby, and thankful for any advice you have. thank you!

Food wise, depending on your country you should be able to find a poultry feed, and that would be best for their main diet, as it is balanced, and then use the carrots/oats/eggs for treat time.

Having a broody to look after them will take care of a lot of the work, but you'll want to work on handling both the hen and the chicks regularly so they grow up to be friendly and confident. Gently picking them up and holding them close to you (I like to tuck them under my chin) and cuddling soothes chicks, which can help them to know you're they're friend. Setting them down calmly and not dropping them or letting them flap or kick away is important, too.

The best way to a chicken's heart is through treats! Bring them treats and call them to you (I say "chick! Chick! Chick!") whenever you give them treats. Toss some on the ground so they know it's food, but offer the rest in your hand. Hand-feeding may take some time, but they'll get their with persistence!

Just sitting out with them and talking to them also really helps establish yourself as part of their flock. Greet them, and talk to them about whatever you like. Sometimes my chickens make surprisingly good therapists (even if they sometimes get poop on me...) They also seem to love "helping" to do things on phones, bright colors and movement are very exciting for adult chickens and chicks alike.

They'll need a balanced grain mix/chick crumbles to be their staple feed. Vegetables, table scraps, boiled or scrambled egg, and bugs make fantastic treats and do help provide good minerals and vitamins. Provide a small dish of little rocks (grit) which they need to grind food in their gizzard. Fresh water should always be available, and make sure you clean the container as needed.

Make sure they have somewhere cozy and dry to get to for sleeping that the chicks can reach easily. Wet chickens get sick, so always having a dry shelter is very important.
