Concept: Sonic going to Soleanna for some reason, bumping into Elise and they just lock eyes for a second with the weirdest sense of deja vu.

“Have I… met you before?”

YES YES!! EXACTLY EXACTLY!!

it seems like in canon sonic actually remembers the events of 06, at least somewhat, but the ending of 06 is super open and seems to hint that something feels familiar so i LOVE this idea

they feel SO familiar for some reason. Have we met before? she swears she's seen those eyes before, he swears he's heard her laugh before. how do i know you? And they dont know! But that sense of familiarity makes them feel like theyre closer and they get to know each other, bit by bit, relearning about each other!!!

Sonic is just visiting the country for some reason or another, maybe it's a different celebration that's happening or maybe it's the sun festival, a different year and a different timeline but it's still there or maybe he's just sightseeing.

he's heard the sunsets are gorgeous this time of the year, that the canals reflect the light like an all consuming fire and he's so caught up in admiring all the beautiful buildings and towers that he doesn't realize someone's in front of him.

he bumps into them and they almost fall except he catches them before that can happen, of course, he holds them lightly while he stabilizes them on their feet. obviously they're human because of the height difference and he doesn't see their face.

as soon as they're alright he looks up and he opens his mouth with something akin to "sorry about that" on the tip of his tongue except something happens before he can even really begin his sentence.

emerald meets sapphire and Sonic blinks and it's like a lifetime just flashed before his eyes but it was all too fast, even for him, and he's just left with the vague sensation of having stared into those eyes before.

it seems like the stranger had the same sensation because her mouth also parts and she looks at him in some familiar way too,

"have we... met before?"

it's a strange feeling. like he's known this person before, he barely held onto her but he knows how her hand feels in his and she's only spoken a couple of words to him, yet he knows, somehow, he knows that he could pick out her laugh from a crowd.

it's like something he forgot. but he forgot, he can't remember, that's just how that works and though he's not sure how he knows what her laugh sounds like, he'd like to hear it again. make sure it's as authentic as his memory tells him it is.

Well. No time like the present.

"Don't think so.” he smirks. “I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog!"

He does a little one-finger salute and the stranger smiles with something like fondness and nostalgia.

"I'm Elise."

Oh hello! And well the answer to that is no, neither her or Daan wanted to have her

My friend ByeByAssociation on Ao3 actually wrote a small fic that's all about their feelings from the time after the events of termina to Ingrid's birth, i recomend checking if you haven't, it's really good!

But tldr; Daan and Karin were the only survivors of termina and stuck together despite knowing there was no love between them because the thought of being alone was scarier than staying in this unhealthy relationship based on codependency. They were essentially on a bender and that's when Ingird was conceived, i imagine she was born at most a year after the events of termina so neither parents were ready for the job nor did they wanted to become parents.

It got even worse when Daan left around the time Ingrid was 3, i imagine it made Karin feel all sorts of emotions ranging from rage to sadness, she was unhappy in the relationship but at the very least she found solace in having Daan there to help raise the kid and now she didn't even had that anymore. A thing to keep in mind whenever i talk about Karin in the context of Ingrid, this is not base Karin from prior or the one we see during the events in termina, this is her after all the horrors in arguably her worst possible shape.

She never tried to heal/cope with what happened in a healthy manner and things only got worse after Daan left because now she had to take care of a child completely on her own, a child she never wanted to begin with. So a lot of the times she ends up letting her anger out on Ingrid and is generally pretty uncaring towards her.

If the circumstances were different i do think she would have been a good mother, but that's unfortunately not how this story goes :(

Okay what assassin's Creed you love and which you hate and why and why are we in the same fandoms!

it's because we have excellent taste goo <3 i wish i could ever answer your questions succinctly, but here is your long answer anyway:

i have things i love and hate about every mainline game! i wouldn't say i outright hate any of them. i find each game really fun to play for their own reasons (excepting v.alhalla, which i have not played, because o.rigins/o.dyssey burned me out so fucking bad on open world games i can't play them anymore. and i haven't played mirage yet either)

in general, and this is not a hot take in the least, i have a lot of qualms with the modern/isu plot. obviously yes, as a period drama person i am more interested in the historical plots, but even approaching the other side in good faith, i don't think it lends itself at all to the themes of the stories? the assassin-templar dichotomy is fascinating and has a lot to say about who writes history and how we cannot help but walk the footsteps of our forefathers, as much as we try otherwise. human conflict is inherently interesting; the historical stories and especially the modern stories don't need the alien-artifacts-as-drama-and-worldbuilding side of the story at all. we are literally reliving history every time we enter the animus, and is that not exciting enough?

it made sense for the first few games, but overall, i don't think it adds much outside of being the defining A.ssassin's Creed™ thing that they do in every game. it has the nasty side effect of turning every story into an assassin good/templar bad plots by virtue of who holds onto the plot devices, and it's immensely frustrating. ac3 was incredible mostly because haytham and connor both don't really care about the artifacts?? they're fighting the same war on the same side for opposite reasons and actually care about changing the world for the better in their own ways??????? i don't know. there is so much potential in the series and it so often breaks under its own weight.

anyway. more to the point of your question, the only game i think is genuinely bad and poorly researched overall is u.nity, which is unfortunate because it has my favorite gameplay, outfits, and setting hands down. i adore the phantom blades and i'll never get over walking around my favorite cathedrals. damn shame about the broken multiplayer aspect and checks notes fundamentally misunderstanding the f.rench revolution. the napoleon dlc was SO good! it could have just been the whole game!!

#footnote: haytham cares about the artifacts in the novel but it's obvious the author had to toss that in there to appease the game canon #i don't think it's justified very well. it's a very strange and out-of-character aside in a transition chapter #and to clarify: i do really like desmond and his story. i wish it were in a better game #god i hate ac so fucking much i think about it constantly i love it to death #everything that sucks about it is what makes it ac. it is a cruel double-edged sword <3 #replies #hailey if you read this i'm sorry. i do love arno and elise in their own fucked up ways
