ppl keep talking about how the Amazon show can’t mention Feanor and the Silmarilli bc they don’t have the rights to the Silmarillion (only to the LotR appendices) as if Appendix A didn’t namedrop Feanor on the very first page like

What the hell are you talking about. What LotR appendices were you reading.

#the real question is probably has anyone of them actually read the lotr apprendices #i mean i have bc i was at a judo tournament with lots of waiting and i finished lotr that day and then went on to read the appendices #having nothing else to do #my coach actually offered to lend me one of her books bc she thought i was desperate #and when i said 'oh actually i think it's kind of interesting' she said 'then you should read the silmarillion' and she was right #this was in the old days before smartphones you must understand #but on the whole the appendices seem to be skimming rather than reading material #anyway #appreciate tolkien's power move of starting an account of the númenórean kings with a summary of the 1st age #like sir gawain and the green knight kicking off with 'SO back when Troy burned' a++ use of historical context #like 'watch me sneak as much content from the book you don't want to publish into this tome as possible' #anyway. maybe the tolkien estate has put their foot down and said 'nope you may not use this' but i kinda doubt it #i mean they were evidently allowed to use the two trees weren't they #the sauron show #gratuitious tolkien reference
