"The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck” is my favorite Disney Ducks comic story ever because at first glance, it presents itself as a fun little origin story but eventually turns into a narrative about the devastation of greed, the consequences of romanticizing the American dream, and the destructive results of the “profits over people” mindset.

#scrooge's transformation into an anti-hero is so beautifully written #because by the end i could not believe THIS was supposed to be the same optimistic adventurer from before #it's so fascinating because he starts out vilifying all of the correct people #like the beagle boys glomgold etc #but then begins to turn on innocent civilians and even his own family #and although he sees redemption at the end of the story he still is never excused or forgiven #he doesn't get closure #he just has to move on and accept that THIS was how he spent those years #i mean he might in the story with matilda but i haven't gotten the chance to read that yet #this story is specifically why i view scrooge as an anti-capitalist character #also because they oftentimes mock his wealth #like scrooge is very rarely idolized in his stories and ESPECIALLY not in this one #okay rant over it's actually time for bed #the life and times of scrooge mcduck #disney ducks #disney duck comics #scrooge mcduck
