Another memory for my dnd character: Verda Lighthoof. Planning for a few more after this one! Love this little guy so much :) Yay for fun backstories!
*Edit to add links to the other parts of the story so far: Memory #1 The End is Where We Begin
Without further distraction, I give you Memory #2:
Lighthoof and Elowyn are sitting in the kitchen area, eating their dinner at the small table. Lighthoof's horns are beginning to sprout, and his leg muscles are a little less round. Stronger. His hands no longer as soft as Elowyn remembered. Yet, his eyes still full of wonder and curiousity.
"Do I really have to wear that dumb thing?" Lighthoof pointed at the metal contraption on the chair. "It's really uncomfortable. I hate it."
Elowyn rubbed the angry red marks it left on his forehead, and indentions from the leather around his face. Wasn't his face more round and soft? When did he lose his baby face?
"This is the least painful one, and you're lucky your horns are cooperating." Elowyn scolded, then placed a kiss upon his cheek. "It's the rules of this court, and we'll have to follow it if we want to live here."
"I like living here." he pouted.
"I like living here too." Elowyn agreed.
He sighed and continued to eat his meal.
"I don't like them either, Lighthoof. Only the spirits themselves would know why Our Lady Titania is so obsessed with symmetrical horns." Elowyn said caressing the angry marks, "As long as you're inside we'll be able to take it off, but you know the physician would be upset if we didn't keep them on all the time."
He continued to frown.
"Your face is going to get stuck that way." Elowyn teased, "It might be an improvement though."
Lighthoof smiled reluctantly. Then it seemed another thought came to mind because he tilted his head back and forth, almost like he was trying to shake the thought out of his head and into his mouth.
"Elowyn, What's a true name?" he asked.
"A true name?" Elowyn repeated, "You know what a true name is. You've heard the songs and stories."
"Yeah, but is it really that powerful? Knowing someone's true name?" he asked, curiousity covering his gentle face.
"Yes, it is. It's very powerful." Elowyn's gaze seemed to be watching something from far away, "I've seen it myself. A long time ago."
Lighthoof knew better than to ask for more details. Elowyn never said more.
"What's my true name then? Do you know?" he asked.
Elowyn, very seriously gathered themselves up and pointed at Lighthoof saying, "Lighthoof, son of Elowyn, child of the glades, finish your meal!"
Lighthoof's eyes went wide, grabbed the fork and he started shaking gasping, "Nooooo!!!!" before bursting into laughter.
Elowyn smiled, "I guess that's not your true name then?"
"Nope!" he smiled and asked, "So a true name is long?"
"Your true name is everything you are, and the magic, the life force that is within the world, and within you, has no other choice but to respond." Elowyn explained, "It's said that your true name is written in your heart. Others say that only a seer of threads can read your name. Whatever is true, it's better not to know it. Easier to steal it if you have it."
Lighthoof nodded thoughtfully, "You have a name. I like your name. Elowyn. How'd you get a name?"
"A friend gave it to me." Elowyn responded.
"That's a really good friend then!" Light said, "Would you give me a name?"
Elowyn tapped on their chin, "Hmmmm, maybe I could."
His eyes went wide, "What would you name me?"
"How about Flute-breaker?" they said with a sly smile.
"ELOWYN!" he exclaimed, "PLEASE!"
Elowyn laughed then said, "I already gave you a name silly."
"Huh?" he stared. Blinking.
"Son of Elowyn. You're my son, aren't you? Once the papers are processed and finalized, it'll be official. It's part of your name." Elowyn said.
"Lighthoof, son of Elowyn." He repeated with a smile then said, "I still want a cool name like yours."
"Lots of names are earned. Keep working hard and I'm sure you'll have one of your own one day." Elowyn said.
"What was your name?" he asked.
"It's bad etiquette to ask that Light," Elowyn scolded, "We give up our names once we're given a new one. To recall the old one would be dismissing everything that I am now. I won't disrespect myself by doing that."
Light shifted uncomfortably, "I'm sorry Elowyn. I didn't mean it like that."
"I know, love." Elowyn patted his hand, "My mother called her child, Raindrop."
"I like Elowyn way better. But Raindrop is nice." he said with a smile.
"My mother liked the rain, said it cleansed the earth and gave life to the world." Elowyn said, "She said even the smallest drop was important."
"Your mother sounds nice." he said.
"She was." Elowyn replied. "She would have loved you."
Lighthoof smiled, and finished his meal. He obediently went to wash the plates, cleaned the table. He took his time, like it would mean he could stay longer if he did. The breeze came through the open window, and Elowyn's ears twitched as it flowed back out the house.
"It's about time for you to head back to the others, my love." Elowyn glanced at him.
Elowyn picked up the metal contraption hanging off the chair with a sigh. Lighthoof slammed into Elowyn, giving them a crushing hug.
"I love you Elowyn." he said.
"I love you too Light."

Types of Drainage
Drainage is a vital part of landscape design. It helps prevent soil erosion and protects plants and animals. It’s often out of sight, but it’s crucial to your property’s health.
The components of drainage systems include an outlet at the lower end; a main and submain ditches that collect water and convey it to outlets; and lateral drains, which remove water from the soil. Laterals can be arranged in either a uniform or random pattern.
Main Drains
Located in the deepest part of the pool or spa, main drains are designed to draw water into the recirculating pump. When working properly, this is a simple and effective way to provide drainage solutions.
Pool main drains work off of the suction created by the recirculating pump to suck water through them and into the PVC piping that leads to the skimmers and the pool or spa’s circulation system. Unfortunately, main drains have also been the cause of a fair share of tragedies in swimming pools and hot tubs, including human and animal entrapment deaths.
Because of this, main drains are required to comply with VGB regulations aimed at reducing the risk of entrapment. To do so, they must feature dual suction outlets, a safety vacuum release system, or a suction limiting venting system to break the pressure buildup or limit the amount of suction that can be created when the drain is blocked.
A main sewer line, which is sometimes referred to as a sewage line, is the large-diameter pipe that all your smaller drain lines connect to. Wastewater from your showers, sinks, garbage disposal, and toilets all make their way down these lines to the sewer system or septic tank outside your home. If the main line becomes clogged, all the fixtures within your home will be affected. Often, this is the most obvious sign of a major problem that will require professional plumbing services to resolve.
Mud Drains
A mud drain, or area drain, can be used to help mitigate a muddy paddock problem by channeling surface and subsurface water to another location. They consist of a small underground catch basin with one or more drain pipes. A metal or plastic grate covers the drain in the ground, and the pipe(s) carry runoff water to some termination point-typically a street curb, municipal storm drain, or retaining area.
If a mud drain is not maintained properly, the piping can be blocked by sludge and other materials, which will reduce its efficiency in mitigating muddy conditions. Blocked drains can be flushed using a rubber drain bladder that attaches to a garden hose and when turned on shoots a blast of water into the pipe to dislodge any obstructions.
When constructing your drainage system be sure that the trench has good slope (1% grade or better) to ensure gravity does all of the work of channeling water away. Also be sure to use proper drain fill material. 1-1/2" clean natural round gravel provides the best permeability to allow water to flow freely and minimize blockages.
Be sure to check with your local utilities before starting any digging projects. The locations of buried electrical, telephone and TV cables and gas piping may influence your drainage plan. If you cannot get clearance, consider other drainage solutions such as trenching with Lighthoof.
Inclined Pipes
The inclined pipe is a common particle-conveying structure and is widely used in many industries such as boiler combustion, oil refining and solar thermal power generation. In these systems, the inclined pipe is often equipped with a valve that regulates the particle mass flow rate. During the conveying process, the descending particles oppose gravity by either creating lift and entraining the bubbles (dilute phase) or by sliding friction against the pipe wall (solids phase).
The different characteristics of the flow phenomenon in an inclined pipe-valve system can cause significant pressure fluctuations and severe vibration of the system. The aim of this study was to experimentally investigate the dynamic pressure and displacement features in an inclined pipe under varying particle mass flow rates with different valve positions. The results showed that the downward gas-solid two-phase flow in an inclined pipe could be characterized by three distinct flow patterns: creeping stratified flow, upward channeling flow and dense phase fluidization flow.
Statistical analysis of the interface wave type map reveals that the wavy interface shape is significantly dependent on the inclination and azimuthal angle of the inclined pipe. The interface wave height distribution and the liquid film thickness decrease with increasing inclination angle, while the interfacial waves attain higher amplitudes and lower propagation velocities with inclination. It is also shown that the Limit of Stationary Deposit Velocity increases with the inclination angle.
Subsurface Drains
Drains can provide drainage solutions for a wide range of conditions. The type of drain to use depends largely on the soils in the area being drained. Refer to soil maps available from natural resources or Cooperative Extension Service offices, and dig test pits where necessary.
A properly designed system will provide years of trouble-free operation as long as it is properly planned, constructed, and maintained. The design should be based on the water table level desired and a drainage coefficient, or rate of removal, selected for the field.
The location and spacing of drains depend on the soil types and conditions. In sandy soils, for example, drains should be spaced about 200 to 300 feet apart. In moderately permeable or clay soils, they may be spaced closer together, depending on the drainage coefficient selected.
Each drain should have a proper surface-water inlet, which can be a metal cone grate or a metal mesh, to float debris and protect the bottom of the drain. Inlets should be located on grades sloped away from the field to prevent silt and other materials from building up around them. A sediment trap should be used where water flows into a drain from above.
Each drain should be blinded and backfilled before work is suspended for a day, to protect the drain from damage during the construction process. The drain should be backfilled to a grade that is determined to give it the capacity required for the area being drained. Breathers should be provided to vent the drain and to assure maximum flow.

DnD backstory time!
Last one for now. It was great to write! This spanned over a bunch of journal entries, but still before Verda meets his best bud (oh, man Skip would not like that. I think Verda can have more than one best bud though). Maybe a collaboration in the future? We shall see!
Link to the previous ones:

Memory #2
Memory #1
We Begin at the End
Anyway, here's Memory #7:
Lighthoof had upon his head a grand set of horns that glinted with a holographic sheen as he nervously paced back and forth between the sun and shade beneath the Hawthorne tree. Mist and sparks snapped as his hooves marked the ground beneath him.
"I'm not stupid!" he gasped at the gravestones in a one sided conversation.
He sighed, "I know you didn't say I was, but it sure felt that way."
He pouted and faced Elowyn, "Okay, Okay. I did something stupid, but what else was I supposed to do? Skip was right there-,"he paused and held his head down as a gust of wind blew upon him, "I know I could have gotten hurt! But everything ended up fine!"
Light sat in front of the grave, the grass extra prickly in the moment. The mist alleviated.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I know. I'll try not to put myself in danger, but Elowyn, I just. I just don't want to lose anyone."
The grass softened, the wind now a light breeze. The ground no longer felt as cold. He stood up and traced Elowyn's name with his finger. He wished he could have a hug.
"I promose to trust my friends more. I know they're reliable and have my back, but I have to have their backs too!"
Leaves continued to fall and twirl around him. He smiled, "Okay, I'm going to go check on Skip, and Honey, and Sunny, and Fern, and Pebble, and just make sure everyone is okay. Maybe my blessings aren't exactly like everyone else's but that shouldn't matter right? I'm still me."
Hesitantcy hovered like a mirage around him.
"If I explain myself, figure out why my magic is different, then it'll be fine." he reassured himself.
"I'm still me." he said, "And just like the hawthorne tree, I'm going to be rooted and strong."
He waved bye to Kah'Ja and blew a kiss to Elowyn before walking down the familiar path. Until a bird caught his attention.
"Hello!" he greeted the bird,"What are you called? I don't think I've seen a bird like you before."
It was black, like the night, with beady eyes, and it perched upon the branch of the tree right before him. Like it was watching him. Had been watching him for a long time.
Lighthoof frowned, "It's rude not to answer, you know." Longer pause. Still no response.
With a huff Lighthoof exclaimed, "FINE!" and made an exaggerated motion to turn and continue down the path, but froze.
He was mid turn when he was hit with the most interesting smell. It was nothing he ever smelt before. And he was hungry. He skipped breakfast because his stomach was upset. Now, it growled. His mouth salivated. Curiosity overtook all his senses and he forgot he was going to check on his friends as he followed that smell down another path that wasn't there before. Wasn't supposed to be there. The black bird cawed and flew away.
Confusion hit Light's mind as he stopped in the middle of the path. Some sense of self-preservation finally kicking in before continuing down this unknown path. He didn't like it. It felt like this path only appeared for him. Like it was waiting for this opportunity.
He felt a gust of wind pushing him back towards where he came, but it abruptly stopped. Silence. Then the music started. Instruments he knew, and some he never heard before began playing fanciful tunes. Food and drink scents floated around him, enticing his senses. His tail started to keep the beat, dancing along to the rhythm of the song.
One song and drink wouldn't hurt. Light thought as he continued down the path. The ground beneath him and the air around him was changing. Unfortunately, curiosity was driving down any other gut instinct or warning going off in his mind. The forest turned into a web of briar patches. Then into a tunnel. Light could not tell how far he walked, or for how long, but the sound and smells seemed both near and so far away. Like the next turn he would see the festival.
Then he was out. The sounds and smells faded like they were never there. He was in a forest. But it was not home. Home was alive and with every step you could feel the heart of magic beating into every vein of life. Connection made with every breath, touch, sight, sound and taste. This place? This place was was disconnected. He was detached. Alone. The forest was living but not alive. The ground was too quiet and cold. It felt empty. Lonely.
Lighthoof took more steps, and finally fear overtook curiosity. He turned to go back, but there was no back to go towards. The tunnel was never tkmv here. Lighthoof slumped down upon the ground, confused and defeated. He replayed everything in his mind. He rubbed his face, and his horns before standing up again. Luckily, he had his equipment, and his mace. He raised his arm and casted his cantrip in the distance. A ghostly toll of a bell echoed as he felt more confident that he would be okay. He can still cast magic. He wouldn't have to hold back. It was odd that his feelings had no impact around him, as he dropped his calm mask quite readily. It was nice to be able to feel and express his panic without fear.
When he finally took the time to look around, he noticed a trail illuminated by the dimming light of the sun. Without a better plan, Lighthoof began following the trail, following the breeze.
He heard the music playing from before, the smells of food. It was not a festival his kin gathered when he came into the town, but so many humans? were gathered. He'd never seen so many types of humans before! Red, and short, and tall, and green? Were humans green? Hopefully it would not be rude to ask.
The music briefly stopped when Light began playing his flute along with the band of minstrels. However, the smiles and laughter Light elicited from the children eased the surprise. Soon he was awashed with a symphony of sights, smells and sounds he never experienced before. Despite traveling for who knows how long, he was not tired. In fact, Lighthoof didn't realize how much he felt starved. He was starving for music, for stories, for drink, and for laughter. It was until he was able to be quietly awed by the unfamiliar constellations in the night sky when he made his realization. He was terrified. He was lost. Lost in a whole new world. But it didn't matter because for once in his life, he was free. Free from his past, free from regulations and expectations. He had no intention to run away, but he couldn't take it back now.
Another breeze grazed his hand as he held it up to feel it between his fingers. Lighthoof sat up and searched his bag for his journal, his paper and quill. He looked back up to the stars shining so brightly above him.
"Elowyn," he murmured, unsure if they would hear him, "Like you wrote to me before, years ago, I'll live a full life so I can tell you all about it. I'll tell Skip and Honey and everyone. You said there were worlds to explore, and you were right. I'll explore this one."
"I'll earn my own name. Maybe even a title!" he exclaimed with some excitement into the wind. The black bird had a twin friend, as they perched on a branch in the distance. The one human? Dwarf? said they were called ravens.
"How'd you get here?" he asked them, "Or are you different ravens?" The ravens didn't acknowledge Lighthoof.
"Still rude, I see." he frowned as he started to write a letter to his friends. It took some time, and he decided to write another letter. This one was for Skip. He finished and packed his things away.
He laid down in the same camp with the minstrels. They were more than happy to give Lighthoof a safe place to sleep for the night. He met more kind strangers the following days, as he continued to learn more about the world he fell into. The Melodic Wanderers, Jared Graykeep, Markus Stoneheart, were only the first friends that Lighthoof met those first few months of his new adventure. He felt lonely, guilty, but curiosity continued to win him over. Distracted him long enough to get distracted again.
And in Markus's Stoneheart tavern, Lighthoof met a storyteller. He had a tale so grand that it had Lighthoof on the edge of his seat. Heroic Verda the Radiant. Lighthoof and the storyteller talked for hours sharing stories and songs with each other. Afterall, it wasn't too often one met with a fey satyr from the Feywild. And it wasn't often that Lighthoof was able to talk with someone so freely.
"Are you sure?" Lighthoof asked the storyteller. He was trying to contain his excitement.
The older gentleman laughed, "Yes, yes. It's just a name afterall! It's yours to use as you like."
Lighthoof left the tavern the next morning. Ready for his journey across the desert. Whatever that was.
Along the way he kept acting out his etiquette stance, his bow, the hand hitting his chest above his heart.
"I am Verda Lighthoof, son of Elowyn, child of the Western Glades." he said with a smile, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Request from the General.  Yona doing the Pony Pyramid like she wanted.
I didn't like it at all. Like, Lighthoof and Shimmy Shake were hot, and Ocellus was cute, but overall everyone acted so OOC that it was noticeably distracting. It wasn't even funny either. There were some funny things in the early parts of the ep that made me think it might at least make me laugh, but the humor fell off really quickly. If you're going to make everyone an asshole, at least make it funny. Overall I rate it a D+.

I should have drawn these two cuties a while ago and I did have a sketch done but got lazy and never finished it till now.
Here’s Shimmy Shake and Lighthoof from “2, 4, 6, Greaaat”.  They were adorable and have such great designs!  Not the first time we’ve gotten some cheerleader ponies in the show, but definitely the cutest ones yet!  :D
