One of the perks of going through An and Filip's archives is finding these special things. Things you will never find in the vintage market. Or things that most overlook. Sometimes the real value isn't what is shown on the runway, but what happens behind the scenes. With more pockets than any Helmut piece and more studs than a Lieve Van Gorp bag, that's saying something about the level of drama that went into something that was never meant to be shown to the public. If you haven't heard from her yet, that's normal and fear not: you'll find out why below. Lieve van Gorp graduated from the Antwerp academy in 1987, one year after the establishment of the Antwerp Six. The focus of the fashion world was obviously elsewhere. . She launched her first accessrory line in 1991 and her first fashion collection in 1995 and already quit her fashion career in 2001 to care for her partner. So now you know. Xavier Delcour is one of those lesser known Belgians that we love to introduce to you. Born and bred in Belgium, he studied at La Cambre in Brussels. Also a reason you find many of his archive garments in @fashionandlacemuseum . Much worth a visit imo. In 1995 at the Festival Européen des jeunes Stylistes Xavier won the Prix collexrion Homme, Prix de la Presse, Prix Absolut Vodka. He presente hus first collection in 1996 but it's not until 1999 that he designed a pret-a-porter collection for men. (Women's came in 2003. Think a blend of 80's dandy, punk rock, 90's clubbing together with slim tailoring. And you can see how he and Lieve Van Gorp came from that same punk Belgian basket. You know how rare Lieve Van Gorp is. But her earliest collections, the accessories line, are so hard to find, they almost seem like an urban legend. These are all leather pieces designed in the early 90's before Lieve started her collections. Let's talk about the latest Belgian I have featured on the website: Jurgi Persoons. ⁠ ⁠ He's an avant garde designer that graduated from the Antwerp Fashion academy and had a short lived career from 1996 to 2003. He did, however, do a capsule collection in collaboration with Dust magazine in 2017.⁠ ⁠ Jurgi Persoons’ designs can be disturbing and arouse controversy, yet this is what makes them fascinating. Slanting hems, tweed combined with snake skin, tartan checks with finely worked embroideries create a style which is on the verge of bad taste. But despite taking these risks, his clothes are not ugly.⁠ ⁠ With each new collection, Jurgi Persoons refers to human characteristics, sentiments, situations, convictions, radical attitudes and their emotional impact. ⁠ ⁠ As he states it: “People’s aspirations for a certain ideal appearance often transpire through the mistakes they make in the search for that ideal, and that is exactly what interests me most, because their failing efforts often produce quite hyperrealistic images. In the series of presenting the lesser known (archival) Belgian avant-garde, after Nico Uytterhaegen and Wim Neels, it was Lieve Van Gorp's time.⁠ ⁠ She designed this fall 1998 men's shirt, which was also available for women. A full row of buttons goes along the back of the sleeves, so that the sleeves can be worn closed, open or partly unbuttoned. This is the last piece available in store of the mini-collection presented this weekend. But no worries, always looking for more!⁠ ⁠ So let me tell you a bit about Lieve van Gorp. She is/was a Belgian fashion designer who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine in Arts Antwerp in 1987. (one year after the Antwerp Six' combination show) After various jobs as a stylist for Belgian high street labels, she launched her first collection "warriors" in 1991, consisting of leather accessories. In March 1995 she expanded into a complete women’s prêt-à-porter collection. And menswear followed in 1997.⁠ ⁠ Lieve describes her designs as ‘Hard Aesthetics’, a blend of icons of Catholicism with rock star cult. You don't know how long I was waiting to get some Lieve Van Gorp pieces together to create this eenie meenie collection. So I am super excited to present piece nr.2 of 5 : a leather fanny pack with a trouser pocket on the front. It almost looks like half an apron. There's a thick leather handle so it can also be worn as a shoulder bag. And this one is fully detacheable, thanks to the silver hardware. I especially like the oversized grommets which are very punk detail that I've seen reappearing in 2000's Christoper Kane and Comme des Garçons. So you can see how this is just such a timeless accessory. Put hand sanitizer in the front pocket and some extra masks in the back pocket. You see? Timeless.
