MLC Amnesia Fic (What's Sealed Away)
It was one thing to know what his qi felt like in his meridians–although he didn’t know what his neili was called, only that it had a name–and to know that, if he started running his sword forms, his arms and legs would guide him where his mind couldn’t. Muscle memory felt familiar. Reliable. But this? This free-floating knowledge, not connected with any event, any memory, any movement or motion? Just facts appearing in his mind? Assertions he was supposed to accept unquestioningly as truth? With no memory of how he learned them? Nothing to prove their validity? He clenched his hand around his dao’s scabbard. There had to be a better way than this.
NOTES:
I had a ton of feels about the differences between DFS and a-Fei, different types of memory and what is and isn’t lost in the sheer mindfuckery that is amnesia (very loosely inspired by my own experiences with amnesia), and a desire to explain some of the weird behaviors in the amnesia arc (why a-Fei spends so much time away from everyone else in the Mountains Red arc–-which LLH justifies with a lie about a-Fei sleeping instead, why LLH never tells FDB that it’s dangerous and painful for a-Fei to get his memories back, etc.), and thus this fic was born.
TW/CW: amnesia, body horror (finding the mind control bug), panic attack (to skip the panic attack, stop at “he pressed his shaking hands against the sheets” and start again at “His pulse finally started to slow.”)
Thanks to @momosandlemonsoda for being an amazing beta reader!!
Relationship: Di Feisheng/Li Lianhua (with hints of future difanghua)

Mysterious Lotus Casebook | Lian Hua Lou | 莲花楼 | Episode 10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Since you have been poisoned with the deadliest poison, no poison can harm you anymore."
--Monk Wuliao
I've been thinking a lot about this line lately, and its potential repercussions. In context, this is Li Lianhua remembering Monk Wuliao's words from when he was healed as much as he could have been from the Bicha Poison 10 years ago. Shortly before these remembered words, there is a flashback wherein it is revealed that Li Xiangyi had a nut allergy that made him break out in hives. That bowl of food he's eating is a nut porridge brought to him by Yun Biqiu. (There are less dangerous ways to see if this person is your former sect leader, Biqiu! O_o;;;) Anyway, as he is eating this nut porridge, and remembering this line, Li Lianhua is distinctly NOT breaking out in hives.
The conclusion that we are clearly supposed to draw is that the Bicha Poison has prevented the "toxin" of the nuts from harming its host.
...but why stop there?
If a nut is a poison for the purpose of this mechanism of action, then what about other drugs/medications? After all, to quote one of my favorite sayings: "Healers and poisoners are folks with similar skill sets and wildly different philosophies." Or to put it as I learned it in my toxicology class in vet school: "All medicines are poisons at the right dose."
So if a nut can be a poison, then medications CERTAINLY are. And if the Bicha poison recognizes the nut as a poison and prevents it from acting, then we can assume it would do the same to any medications.
That explains why Medicine Demon's priceless potions DON'T WORK.
That explains why the snake bites DON'T WORK.
That explains why Guan Hemeng's medicines DON'T WORK.
It also explains why Li Lianhua is so convinced that Fan Duobing's pill from Tianji Hall and Di Feisheng's Wangchuan Flower WON'T work.
Because once you've been poisoned by Bicha Poison, NO OTHER POISON WILL HARM YOU... or help you.
And taking that a step further, it means that every time Li Lianhua has been sick or injured or in need of pain medication in the past ten years, NONE OF IT WOULD HAVE WORKED. And considering how much more fragile he is now than he used to be, that absolutely breaks my heart.
Just imagine that every time he was ill or injured, he had to weigh the benefits of using Yangzhouman to heal himself versus the risk of using too much and shrinking the time he had left even more. How many times must he have chosen to just power through and hope he makes it to the other side? No wonder he's so reluctant to let Guan Hemeng examine him and try to help. No wonder he doesn't want to waste everyone else's precious medications on himself. He knows they'll do nothing.
...excuse me while I go cry in a corner now. TT^TT

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but when Di Feisheng took He Xiaofeng "hostage" she wasn't really in any immediate danger (as far as I can see):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He does not display any outward intention to maim her or restrain her, and when Shan Gudao goes on to stab her he immediately rebukes him for that.
Tumblr media
Afterwards, when Shan Gudao demands for the other heavenly ice shard, his expression also looks as if he's urging them to give in.
Tumblr media
Though, if it wasn't in his plans to hurt HXF in order to get the shards from them I do wonder how DFS planned to get them from FDB? (If SGD hadn't shown up).

来日方长 | the days ahead are long (Fang Duobing & Li Lianhua, 7.7k)
As soon as Li Lianhua has regained enough breath to speak, he grumbles, “I’m fine,” in a voice still hoarse from coughing. “If the deadliest poison in the world couldn’t kill me, do you think some dust will? Honestly.” Or: Fang Duobing and Li Lianhua return to Lotus Tower, fix it up, and begin healing.

like rain that you slept through (Fang Duobing & Li Lianhua, 3.6k)
Fang Duobing takes one step forward, then another more slowly, as though afraid Li Lianhua will spook like a wild animal. Disappear like an old ghost. Or: a little worse for wear, Li Lianhua comes home to the two people (and one dog) who never stopped looking for him.
