Question: You have gone and spoken to Ben Suleman and I think you’ve got with him on a personal level, ok. I don’t know. He came out with this directive. *sigh* The FIA is suppose to stand to empower disadvantage groups and promote diversity and those kind of thing and yet this statement came out saying drivers couldn’t be political. Will you continue to stand up for all the things you have in the past and will the team still be able to carry - for example - the pride logo on the car. Will you do that?
“100% (giggles). These issues are still so important to be spoken about. I think we’ve seen over the past couple of years how great it has been to bring awareness to things, spark conversation, hold organizations and people accountable in order for us to move forward. And I think we’ve come along way. I think we’ve seen great progress but there’s more to do and we’re still going to places where there’s still issues. And I know there’s work being done in those place - and it can take time. But I’m gonna continue to be me and continue to fight for things that I’m passionate about. I’ll never let anyone stop me from doing that. So what will be will be. I’ll show up the way I always do.”

‘Nothing will stop me’: Lewis Hamilton defiant in face of possible FIA censure as he speaks to the media after the launch of the W14.
“It doesn’t surprise me, but nothing will stop me from speaking on the things I am passionate about and the issues that there are,” he said. “I feel the sport does have a responsibility still, always to speak out on things, to create awareness on important topics particularly as we are travelling to all these different places. So nothing changes for me.”
“It would be silly to say I would want to to get penalty points for speaking out on things but I am still going to be speaking my mind,” he said. “We still have this platform, there are still a lot of things we need to tackle. The support of Stefano has been amazing and all the drivers have been very much aligned on freedom of speech.”

Today is a huge moment for us, for this team. Countless hours and a monumental amount of hard work from over 2000+ people went into building the W14. I am so incredibly proud of each of everyone on my team. We redesigned together. We reengineered together. And whatever we are faced with this year, we will face it head on, together 💥

Lewis Hamilton reflects on seeing the W14 for the first time and whether or not Mercedes can get away from some issues with the car from last season
“We believe we have hit the nail on the head in some of those areas. And some of them we’ll still have to work on. Yeah this is the most excited period of time. We’re in Silverstone. The sun is up here in February. (…) There’s only two of us out of 8 billion people that get to drive this car and I feel so privileged and then therefore incredibly excited.”

Lewis Hamilton lifting the lid on his Mercedes future
“Right now I’m trying to just live in the moment. I’m just trying live… I’m trying to just be happy. I’m trying to just enjoy my job, trying to elevate myself spiritually, mentally and physically to be the best driver that I believe… To really trying to reach my full potential always. I love working with the team. This has been my life for such a long. I feel currently fit enough and deserving of my position so I’m gonna continue to go for a bit.
And of course our goal is to win a world championship. (…) I’m not thinking about an eight. I’m thinking about a world championship like it’s our first. So that’s how I’m approaching it and I believe I got the right team in order to do that. I’ll be so proud if I could do that for this team again.”
