The next few weeks went by and Leela spent most of it aching for Zach. Since that morning he had made her breakfast and then left, he didn’t try to speak to her or come near her again. Leela knew he was trying to respect her wishes but it didn’t make things any easier. She missed him all the time, and when she saw him at work and the brief moments they had to speak because of their work - her ache intensified. Perhaps more so when she saw his misery  - just as her. It almost felt as if she were punishing him, but she wasn’t. She had forgiven him for what he’d done because Leela knew he loved and cared for her, otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten so angry at her for being so reckless at the club. She just didn’t know if she fully made peace with her actions or how to approach him. She also knew she would never get proper closure from Rohit because he refused to speak to her. He never responded to her countless voicemails. That afternoon she and Zaira had gone to Leela’s favorite cafe for lunch, where the sight of Zach sitting with a woman. She recognized the woman as Zach’s date at the company event. Leela was so stunned she stopped mid-step on her way to her table that she hadn’t realized she’d be spotted by Sarah, as jealousy trickled within her.

If it weren’t for the fact that Zach had promised Leela he would go out to the club with her tonight, he would be at home, lounging around and watching Netflix. However, that wasn’t in the cards for him. At least not tonight. He had to go, not because he wanted to, but because of his promise. While Zach might not be an extrovert and preferred to keep to himself, he did say that he wanted a change and since Leela was willingly trying to help him, he couldn’t bring it to himself to deny her. Honestly, he was starting to think that he could never say no to her. The woman might be a menace, but she did have a good heart and since she needed a friend, and was willingly offering up her help, he wasn’t going to be a spoil sport. It felt a little weird wearing jeans, however. He didn’t normally wear jeans, probably because he lived in a mild climate city and his temperature ran higher than the average person. Zach remembered being teased by his mom because of it. She called him a furnace. That had him laughing as he got ready for the night. Once he was ready, he shot Leela a text; telling her that he would see her at the club. He called an Uber knowing that he was going to be drinking tonight and met up with Leela at the entrance. “You look hot tonight. Like you normally do.” He said in greeting, his lips curving up and his eyes glinting with amusement.

Winter, Year 7: Meanwhile, In a Neighboring Kingdom, pt. 1

Claire’s days are coming to an end.  It seems strange moving her away from Lakshmi and Venkat, but I would rather have her pass on the potion shoppe to one of her children or grandchildren, so I move her in with Celeste and invite Zelda and Zander for a visit from university. 

Claire has a ton of stuff in her inventory.  I transfer a lot of it to Celeste and then have her split the rest between the twins.

Everything is in order and it’s time to say goodbye.  :(

Claire Mellon, the infallibly good witch, is survived by her long time friends/partners/housemates Lakshmi Langerak and Venkat Gray; her three children Celeste, Zelda, and Zander Mellon; her four grandchildren Cassidy, Callum, Corbin, and Zachary Mellon; and one great-grandchild Cordelia Mellon.

I made Zelda and Zander selectable temporarily to see if that would give them a chance to inherit the business.  I’m not sure if it made any difference or not because the business went to Claire’s oldest daughter, Celeste, anyway.

His grandmother’s death put a damper on Corbin’s birthday.

Cordelia’s ages up as well.

Celeste has never taken much interest in witchcraft, but I need her to start so the family can have someone who is able to cast spells to cure the sickness.

She reaches elderhood this season and has the responsibility of being the senior witch in her mother’s place.  She doesn’t look ready for the responsibility.

Celeste: Wait, I have to do what now?

She and Drake have been rolling marriage related wants for each other, so I invite him to move in at the end of the season.  (Drake has also been romancing Celeste’s daughter Cassidy, so this may turn into a disaster.)

I haven’t been able to get Cassidy and Jay to stay engaged long enough to get married.  It doesn’t help that Cassidy despises Jay’s twin brother Rodney and the brothers can’t even have a peaceful visit.

Cassidy finally graduates.  (I didn’t record her GPA or major.)  Since she had Cordelia young she never moved away to university with her peers.

At the Langerak’s Sitara and Vincent are reunited.

I guess breaking him and Laurence up wasn’t a completely bad move, since he wants to marry Sitara now.  She just wants to fall in love before she gets married to anyone.

Sitara goes into labor.

It’s a baby boy named Vikram.

I thought for sure she would be due to start university by now.  I know she lost a day when she died, but she’s still a couple of days away.  Before I can decide whether to wait the few days or go ahead and make her a young adult, she gets pregnant AGAIN.  Three pregnancies for one teenager has got to be a record.  I don’t think this poor girl has actually spent anytime as an actual teenager.  :(

Vincent invites her out on a romantic date in the snow.  Random passerby  (I forget who that is) does not appreciate their PDA.

Sitara decides she’s truly in love now and decides Vincent is the one.  They get engaged!

After Vincent moved to university and Vlad died, Count Ray moved in with the Langeraks, so I have one less household to play.  He tries to turn Erin into a creature of the night, but she refuses to fall for that.

Wait, he’s out in the sunlight doing this, isn’t he?  *face palm*  Get back inside, you fool.

Then he thinks he’s going to bite a toddler.  Good grief . . . (This must be Vikram.  I think I neglected to take a birthday picture of him.)

While on an outing, Count Ray finally finds someone to bite.  It’s Brett Burgos.

Brett:  So this is my daughter is planning to marry?

Weird.

Vampire Brett.  This is really going to add a challenge. Not only is he newly widowed single father, but now he has to deal with vampirism on top of that!

Count Ray and Chastity are still engaged.  I’m not sure where they are going to live just yet.  Right now, she’s sharing an apartment with her sister.  I should have them move in together soon. Since he doesn’t age, I guess I don’t have to worry about syncing up the days.

Sitara’s oldest child, Leela, is a child now.  (At this rate mother and daughter are going to be teenagers together . . .)

Someone left a karaoke machine as a date gift.  I can’t remember if it was Chastity or Vincent (probably Vincent.)  I can already see how this is going to be a problem.  There’s no room for it inside and I know my vampires are going to try to go outside and use it during the day because they have proven not smart about that sort of thing.

“Our people cannot interfere with the mortal world. We must only observe.”

Romana had been sitting on a boulder in the middle of the ocean when the incident happened. She had watched the evil woman plunge her weapon into the man's back when he was taken by surprise, unable to defend himself from the upcoming attack. She had watched her for days now, waiting for the predator to make her move and Romana knew when she did, she wouldn't be able to do anything to stop the killing. Her crimson tail flickered angrily at the thought.

“It is against the laws of the Merepeople. Mortals are inferior to us, they do not deserve our help.” That was what her advisor had told her.

She scoffed at the thought.

“And what about Commander Andred's wife? She was a mortal and she turned into a mermaid for the sake of her husband. Are you calling your commander's wife inferior?”

The councillor hesitated, not wishing to anger his Queen despite his opinions were clearly visible upon what he thought of the mortals that lived above. “Lady Leela is a peculiar predicament, I admit. But you are our Queen, Lady Romana. Your people need you here. You cannot go and waste time going up to the surface to see the mortals if you simply dislike that one mortal.”

“She's dangerous! She's a political enemy to the mortals and if she got her way, I have no doubt she could rule the British Empire if she so wished.” Romana argued back, gritting her teeth. “I tell you. That man needs our help. I know he suspects the woman just as much as I do.”

Matthias cleared his throat as he approached forwards, bowing his head respectfully towards her. “Your Majesty, with all due respect, Councillor Zachary is right. Your people need you now more than ever and you cannot afford to waste time or your energy upon the humans, especially with ones who are so high-ranking in politics. If they find out the truth of our people, it will only create an everlasting war in which there will be millions of loses on both sides. A war that we cannot afford to start.”

Romana's mouth thinned and she pursed her lips as she so badly wanted to refuse to believe it. She new mortals couldn't all be that bad. A few mortals couldn't represent the whole of the human species,, could it? Although Romana had longed for her time to come when she took the Throne after her father passed away, Romana had always loved to explore the Ocean and the surface above. Always loved to watch how different the mortals were from them and learn from them, whether that be the good or the bad.

“Fine.” She lied through her teeth, giving a dramatic sigh as she rubbed her temple which was now throbbing with an upcoming headache. “I apologise Councillor Matthias. You are right of course, my people come first and I must do what I can to protect them and our Empire. Now if you'll excuse me, I have other matters that need my attention.” She flickered her tail and swam away from the council rooms where all the tedious meetings took place.

It was after she had reconciled with Zach, did the brunette finally find peace. The week that followed after she mended things with him, was perhaps the happiest days Leela had ever experienced. She wanted to be around him all the time, even while she was working. After finally having Zach for herself, he held all of her attention these days. She had a feeling this would be the pattern until she finally got used to being with him. So when the weekend rolled around, they became lost in their own world. After spending the week at her place, they were back at his apartment on Friday night and yet again they had spent all night taking each until their bodies gave out from exhaustion. The brunette awoke to soft noises coming from the kitchen. When she reached for her boyfriend, he wasn’t beside her and she realized Zach was perhaps making breakfast. Normally, she would have gotten up and greeted him, but she ached all over from last night. It was a delicious ache that left her body humming in pleasure. A slight shift of her legs made her wince, and Leela smiled to herself at thoughts of him. Deciding to stay put in his bed as he’d join her soon. Her eyes closed again and Leela shifted to bury her nose in his pillow, wanting to inhale his alluring scent as she waited for him.

Things between Zach and Leela was confusing after they had dinner with his family. While the breathtaking brunette still spent time with him. She was also distant. He wasn’t sure if he had done something wrong or maybe something in her life was bothering her. Either way, he figured that Leela would tell him should something come up. She’d never been one to shy away from expressing herself, therefore he chose not to push. Instead, they spend time together like they normally did. Going to dinner and doing everything that they normally would. The one thing that still gave him a headache was Kristen. His ex was still around. It was also beginning to look as though she was stalking him. How could he not feel that way when wherever he turned, she seemed to be there? Christ, it was starting to feel like he couldn’t have a normal day anymore.

Between dealing with work and trying to dodge Kristen, he was beginning to feel exhausted. There was also the added stress of his drama with Alice. It still bothered him that his sister would have been so unkind as to say that Leela wouldn’t be good to him. He didn’t think that at all. In fact, he was certain that Leela was a good addition in his life. She made him relax and see things in a different light. So, how could someone so good to him be considered bad? Yes, she was different from the women he was normally attracted to. However, different might just be what he needed. Did Alice ever think that perhaps he needed someone who could challenge him in the way that Leela did? The more he spent time with her, the more he liked the man he was becoming and he would be a fool to let her go. That evening after work, he dropped by Leela’s office before she could leave. She was engrossed with work and hadn’t seen him coming, so he took the opportunity to stand back and watch her. His heart leapt in his chest as he did so. Was there ever a time where he didn’t find her beautiful? He cleared his throat then before stepping inside. “Enough working. I’m starving. Let’s go to that Japanese restaurant that just opened up. My treat.” He said as a greeting and with a warm smile that he knew she couldn’t say no to.

THE GOD OF AN ATHIEST

At 15, I decided I was an athiest.

Yeah, even before I figured out which college I’d like to go, which major I’ll pursue, which internship I intend to enroll in, or, as a matter of fact, which Hogwarts house I belong to or whether Kurt Cobain was a fitting ideal for me or not, I, with a tantalising certainty checked in the box corresponding to “ATHIEST” in an online form for a course I wasn’t even sure I was interested in studying.

My supposedly “rebellious” beliefs did not tag along well with the fact that I come from a very religious family. I learnt mantras before I learnt to spell. I was raised in hindu faith and go to a Catholic school where majority of my friends are muslims. My head instinctively ducks when I pass by a temple and I pray daily in the assembly to “A father who is in Heaven.”

So, where did this virus of an idea come from? What convinced me that the entity I have been taught to bow down to, to rely on, to have “his will be done” and my trespasses forgiven, is not real?

Science, maybe? Physics argues that it all started with a bang, an explosion of everything in an expanse of nothing. And it’s all still moving. Space is not absolute and so isn’t time. It is all ruddy dynamic, slowly tinkering towards its impending collapse. So, for all of it to fit in, this idea of an absolute God dwelling in the periphery of space, juggling the entire universe on his fingertips, has to be chucked out of the equation. And the irony of it all being that this all was suggested by Newton’s laws who refuted his own findings for they disproved the existence of his God!

So, yes I do not believe that there is some ringmaster-esque God out there, with the cords of my life entwined in his holy hands who lives in a sprawling extraterrestrial abode wiling away his time in plotting conspiracies and raas leelas, an ace accountant who keeps a meticulous track of good and bad karmas. But, does this make me that condescending, science-worshipping Athiest who looks down upon a child praying with a smirk, thinking-“You foolish, twit.” Or that Satanic person who will see a man drowning and say in jest-“ Call your God, now. Where is he, man?”. Or that pseudo-intellectual who will quote Hawking and Zachary on athiesm?

I beg to differ. I am just 16, with a heckload of experiences still in line to be unfolded, including spiritual encounters, if there are any. And I just refute this notion of an all-mighty, super human type of God. The one we are supposed to be afraid of, kneel down to and blindly worship. But, what if, if I may suggest, God is a metaphor for who we can become? You look at the mythologies and the myths. Gods ruled Ancient Greece, right? Zeus and Hades and Apollo and Venus and Artemis-all paragons of some vice or virtue and somewhere in their myths and fables, it’s all there. If we decode the gospels, shatter the myths, it all boils down to this-as Terrence McKenna says- we’re Gods and might as well get good at it!

And then there is our Universe. So vast and terrifying and beautiful. Extruded from a limitless void to become this dynamic, unfathomable thing we call home. Stringing together time and space and energy and gravity and life and death and hopes. Our hopes. Fits well in the standard definition of God, doesn’t it?

So, maybe God is real. Just not the one we think.
