#i have been to the farnsworth house. there's a small boat house which leads directly into the fox river. it was full of frogs #didn't go inside as it was under construction but i saw that there was a violin sitting on a chair #there was a swimming pool on the property which was completely grown over in either algae or duckweed #the house itself is interesting (exterior walls made entirely of glass) but i thought the property was more interesting #you have to walk a quarter mile through the woods alongside the river to get to the house #in the visitors center they give you a small map with a list of trees that you may see on your walk #there was another building by the visitors center that was wooden and octagonal and inside was an exhibit of plein air paintings

Just remembered another fucked up paint story (will put in tags because idk I like talking in tags more than actually in the post)

#so my friend works in a shop in which they do a lot of stuff with tools. and they’ve recently moved location so they didn’t have a tool #board or anything. so she’s there by herself this one day; it’s a quiet day (because they’ve just opened and no one knows they’re there) #and she’s like ‘i’ve got this giant plank of wood; i’m going to make a tool board i can mount on this wall’. so she gets it sized #how she wants it and idk.. cuts and sands it. don’t ask me i’m not good at carpentry. but then she’s like ‘i want to paint this black so th #tools will show up better and it’ll show up against the wall and look good’ so she finds some black acrylic paint in the shop #quickly she realises that the shit is watery as fuck and it will probably take 6-7 coats to be opaque and she’s like.. i don’t have that #kind of time. i work 7 hour shifts. i have to serve customers and fix stuff with my tools #so she calls up this 83 year old man that she randomly knows? i still don’t know how she met this man. not that it’s weird to know an 83 #year old man but i still don’t know under what circumstances she met him or why they continue each other’s acquaintance. anyway. #she rings him and he’s like ‘i’ve got this black paint that was my granddad’s. it’s yours if it’s still functional as paint’ #so she takes him up on that and he drives to the shop (no idea if this man has a license or can see or even should be driving btw) #and drops off this gigantic tin of pre-war black paint. she opens it and it’s rock solid. the brush doesn’t go in. she has to stab it with #a chisel. however once she does that; the paint underneath is like a dream. the texture is perfectly smooth and opaque in one coat #she finishes painting though and her hands and forearms are COVERED in the stuff. and it doesn’t wash off #by the time she came to see me and told me this story she’d showered three times and scrubbed her arms and most of it was still on there #i was like ‘you realise that you are going to die of lead poisoning from this pre civil war lead paint right?’ and she was like ‘yep’ #‘but look at the tool board!’ ‘fuck the tool board does look great actually’ ‘right??’ #so that’s the story of the fucked up paint. what made me a little crazy is that that century old paint dried faster than whatever paint my #dad gave me to paint that model bomb shelter. how does that shit make sense #it didn’t dry up in the can over the course of a hundred years but it dried on the board. explain #personal

Honestly, to this day, I don't know how I finished bdftr! 😅 When people asked me how I did it, I genuinely have no idea. This was my lightning in a bottle. Full stop.

But I do really love long fics. I love drawing things out. I love detailed pining. I've just gotten in this habit of cutting my work down because the longer pieces I've written tend to break tumblr mobile. I'm trying to get out of it, though, and write something more detailed, and focus less on exercising the excess.

I do have a few long fics planned (sailor Price, for example, is a heavy one, omgggggg), but I haven't really found a plot that is as detailed and mapped out as bdftr was.

#I came out of a very long hiatus and was just absolutely riddled with existentialism #and somehow banged out 200k in a few months #Now I can barely hit 10k without needing to sit on my balcony #and stare at the ocean like a Victorian peasant slowly decaying away from inhaling lead and arsenic every single day #all because my husband wanted to paint our walls green

can we talk about how overproduced reality tv has gotten and how it’s completely ruined the genre

#maybe not completely ruined but almost completely #and before someone comes at me saying ‘you know reality tv is fake right-' I’M AWARE i’m aware. #but if you look at reality tv now vs. back in the early 00s/‘10s there’s a stark difference and not in a good way #i blame two things mostly 1) complacency and 2) social media/influencer culture #hear me out ☝🏾 #so the complacency thing isn't solely a reality tv issue #all genres will have shows that stick to the basic tropes of that genre because they know what will get viewers #i think it’s just easier to spot in reality shows because the main ‘characters' aren't real actors #which somewhat leads into my next point #although reality tv is obviously scripted (how much it’s scripted varies from show to show) shows from the 00s/10s did have a certain- #authenticity to them #the people on these shows wanted to make their mark and so they actually put some effort into being entertaining and putting on a spectacle #if you sat there like a lump on a log and did jack shit then obviously no one was going tune in #and then boom !! social media blows up and influencers become a thing #all of a sudden reality tv becomes almost sterile #there’s not even a facade of realness being held up anymore people go on these shows to build their brands/platforms and that’s it #it’s no longer about what plotline(s) will be the most entertaining it’s about what will make the main star/stars look good #every scene is perfectly lit and every person in the scene has immaculate makeup and clothing even if they’re just sitting at home #the people on these shows put essentially no effort into being entertaining they’re like paint drying personified #even the fights are boring #but because reality tv isn’t really taken seriously as a genre the same mundanity continues to get churned out and people aren’t really- #bothered #anyway. ​sorry for the brick wall of text in the tags but i needed to get my thoughts out #i wrote so much that’s wild 😭 #like who is even reading this

Lol so I know for a fact my LL has been screwing with me since February, specifically letting the other tenants use my parking spot— about 5 times now since trying to move stuff out (since May 1st) I have not been able to park in my spot, causing me to have to unsafely park in the road on an intersection, AND have to lug everything down a large flight of stairs AND across her front yard to the road to move anything.

Yesterday I went to grab more of my stuff and once again my parking spot (that I fucking pay and paid for) was taken by another tenant, so I finally texted her 'hey, I'm still moving stuff out of my apartment— id appreciate it if I could use my parking spot.'.

She was home when I texted her this. I saw her pop her head out her window to look at me, but she never responded to me.

Even better: she's been turning off power to my apartment to go in without telling me so my security camera doesn't record her invading my space. And I can tell because of massive gaps in my security recordings.

Even EVEN better: she fucked up, yesterday I found my apartment door left UNLOCKED!!! Which I 100000% didn't do, and know for a fact she did, because back in February when my apt was 40°F and I left for my own safety, she admitted to me that she just assumed I left my apartment unlocked at all times and tried to let herself in without telling me, realized she was locked out, and texted me she needed a key. I didn't say anything about that but boy am I pissed off about it because I still had a laptop there. I never once left my door unlocked bc of the amount of break ins I've survived.

Since then she's been pulling the above dogshit of turning off my power to avoid being recorded by my 100% legal security camera.

I have a handful of stuff left including a massive rug I physically cannot move myself unless I have access to my parking spot :^)
