This is taking me back. It was the first real camera I owned. I bought my Nikon FE at FedCo with a 50mm lens. I’d studied camera for months and saved up my money to by it. I bought in 1982. I had it in San Diego but rarely took it out because I was so poor I hardly could afford film. So only a few of my SD friends ever saw it. After I moved to LA and after taking a class in Black and White photography at Ling Beach Stage I began it use it. This led to me first documenting LA’s underground club scene to eventually shooting concerts and art events. I was published in the LA Weekly many times in 1986/87. I shot the Chili Peppers and Club Performance at the Variety Art Center. Tackhead opened for the Chili Peppers. While I was shooting the Beastie Boys one of them threw beer on me and a bit of the beer got on the camera. (I was not happy about that.) At 48 Crash I shot George Michael accompanied with a group of boys. Michael was nice and it was then I thought he was gay even though he had Performance DJ Kathy Jeung as his girlfriend. There are many stories associated with my Nikon FE I used to carry in my Hello Kitty lunch pail. 🍾 Starstruck Part 2: Electric Boogaloo🍾 I had the pleasure of dining at @feinsteinsla’s. Let me tell y’all this is the best Italian cuisine I had in a long time. It’s 10AM and I’m still full. And I got to see @johnlloydyoung perform again live. I’m so glad I rediscovered him after all this time. His album My Turn...is on Spotify and it’s been part of my commute to work playlist. I think my fav’s of the night were “Slow Dawn Turning” and “Show and Tell.” While I love his falsetto as Frankie Valli, his baritone register is smooth and silky. Also shoutout to the #johnlloydyoungfriends fanbase - I’ve only been to two performances and you’ve been the best fan group ever! I’m happy to share this all with you and I really feel that we’re all family.
