Kyoru is intense, and emotional. We’re dealing with loss, fear of rejection, the looming IMPRISONMENT of Kyo, societal rejection and prejudice, childhood trauma, horrific events that are intertwined with one another’s suffering, and so much more. It’s all very high stakes, and a lot to contend with.

What is beautiful is that their love doesn’t erase that pain and suffering. Instead, their love embraces the hard times, as well as the good. There is this notion that when one finds love, it’s “happily ever after” and all suffering ends. Kyo and Tohru know that that’s not the case. Life is full of good times, and bad.

This is emphasized in chapter 133 when we see Kyo’s thoughts regarding Tohru keeping his beads. Tohru isn’t trying to erase the pain Kyo has been through, as if their being together was a new separate event that wiped the slate clean. Rather, the hard times are still preserved as chapters in a much larger story. And Tohru is telling Kyo that she loves him for who he was then, who he is now, and who he will become. Kyoru don’t love each other for what they believe one another to be, but for who they are. It’s just a pure, honest love and it makes me swoon. It goes back to 128 when Kyo wonders if he still loves Tohru, and what exactly he loves about her, only to realize that doesn’t matter. He just loves her.

This is all very much canon but I just love talking about it because it’s so important to me. This aspect of Kyoru has ALWAYS stuck with me, and it’s why they are my ultimate OTP.

The relationship of Yuki and Kakeru budding heads, and having a intense argument really parallels Yuki and Kyo. It also foreshadows Yuki and Kyo climatic moment in the manga for me. I say this because the more opportunity Yuki has expressing himself with people he has conflict with, it gives him the courage he needs to have important conversations. Like when he approaches Kyo on a serious level later down the line. I am not ready 😩

I really love how episode 13 ended, because you can see that Yuki and Kakeru now have a chance of being actual true friends.

I just love the fact that Kyo and Tohru decided to live together after graduation. I admit I was so shocked when I first read it. I was part of a family where following the traditional way is highly encouraged. The formula taught to us was high school-college-job-marriage-kids. So I really didn't know how to feel at that time reading it when I was a kid (I was like "You guys are not going to college?"). Growing up I began to appreciate more on why they chose that kind of path, especially when I can see quite some similarity when my brother broke our family streak and decided to move in with his boyfriend now fiance during his freshman days in college. Reading that part now was like damn they're really in it for the long haul and it was not decided so impulsively. You can tell that it was really carefully thought through. And when Tohru did not hesitate to agree living with him after reflecting on it, this just emphasize how goddamn serious they are to each other. I'm just so proud of Kyo and Tohru for moving on with their lives. I always love how each furuba characters matured from the manga and seeing them become more confident with their decisions like "this is it, this is how I wanna live my life" makes me wanna cry coz I'm so proud of them.
