been on a bollywood binge the past few weeks, some old and new.

films i’ve watched: jawan, pathaan, salaar, animal (phew what was that), radhe shyam, jaane tu ya jaane na, kuch kuch hota hai (rewatch), kal ho naa ho (tear my heart why don’t you), dilwale, om shanti om (masterpiece), dil to pagal hai, mujhse dosti karoge, rocky aur rani kii prem kahaani (alia bhatt yesss), and many more i can’t think of the name right now.

not to be dramatic but i think shah rukh khan invented romance. how does he do that with his eyes?? i watched kabhi khushi kabhie gham and i was not expecting to cry my eyes out. there should’ve been a warning at the beginning to have a box of tissues ready.

ok so these are the episode moodboards for the screenplay:

but the plot is ooosley based on Om shanthi om. basically, the main characters have a solitary meet cute and fall in love. anjali inherited a really nice house by a river, and her neighbor (Kojal aka Rekha) keeps trying to push her out of the house to buy it for herself. eventually, kajol kills anjali and jyothi and takes the house. BUT, anjali reincarnates as elise (anjali’s friend)’s daughter and Jyothi reincarnated as Kajols daughter. the two meet 23 years and remember their past life. they work together to haunt Kajol back and eventually trap her in the same house she stole from them and set it on fire. the two rebuild the house as a community center and build another house across the river and live happily ever after.

it’s a large fuck you to the “bury your gays” trope basically

Fenomena ketidakadilan gender kerap kali muncul pada sebuah karya sastra, salah satunya dalam naskah drama “Mega-Mega” karya Arifin Noer. Dalam naskah ini ditemukan protes dari diri seorang perempuan, seperti mengapa perempuan harus mengandung dan merasakan sakit, mengapa perempuan selalu dikatakan tidak bisa dalam mengurus anak. Jika dilihat dari kacamata feminisme, naskah ini termasuk naskah yang bagus.

Mega-Mega merupakan naskah drama karya Arifin C. Noer. Semula drama ini dimuat dalam majalah sastra Horison selama tiga kali pemuatan, yaitu Nomor 10/III, Oktober 1968, halaman 306—315; Nomor 11/III, November 1968, halaman 341—350; dan Nomor 12/III, Desember 1968, halaman 371—378. Padan tahun 1999 diterbitkan dalam bentuk buku setebal 124 halaman (+vii halaman) oleh Penerbit Pustaka Firdaus, Jakarta. Pada tahun 2000-an penerbit STSI Bandung menerbitkannya kembali dalam bentuk buku dengan judul yang sama. Dalam Mega-Mega dikemukakan ihwal Mae yang hidup sendirian di kota Solo. Ia ingin dipandang sebagai "ibu" (pimpinan) oleh para gelandangan di sekitarnya yang umurnya memang lebih muda. Mae sangat menyayangkan Retno, perempuan muda yang cukup cantik (untuk ukuran para gelandangan), tetapi hidupnya menjadi pekerja seks komersial. Mae juga selalu menasihati Panut agar tidak memilih pekerjaan sebagai pencopet. Anggota yang lainnya adalah Hanung, seorang penyandang cacat kaki, yang masa kecilnya dihabiskan di panti asuhan. Tukijan adalah seseorang yang punya cita-cita membuka kehidupan baru di Sumatra. Seorang gelandangan bernama Kojal agak berlainan watak karena ia selalu berkhayal untuk mendapatkan uang banyak sehingga ia selalu membeli kupon undian lotre. Suatu hari, Kojal mendapat lotre dan mengajak kawan-kawannya berfoya-foya. Mereka makan-makan di restoran, membeli pakaian di toko Kim Sin, dan bertamasya ke Tawangmangu. Bahkan mereka mampu membeli keraton Mataram. Lotre Kojal menciptakan pertengkaran antara Hanung dan Tukijan. Hanung berusaha membela Kojal yang ditampar Tukijan karena ia merasa cemburu pada Kojal yang berusaha meraba kaki Retno yang sedang tidur. Mae berusaha melerai mereka. Kekhawatiran Mae ditinggal anak buahnya akhirnya menjadi kenyataan. Hanung berangkat ke Jakarta dan Tukijan bersama dengan Retno berangkat ke Sumatra untuk bertransmigrasi. Mega-Mega mengungkapkan sebuah tema yang lahir dari lingkungan yang secara sosial-ekonomi merupakan masyarakat minoritas sesuai dengan latar yang dipakai yaitu gelandangan dengan pola kehidupan yang tak pasti. Akan tetapi, dari ketakpastian itu manusia bisa menjadi apa saja.Tokoh Mae, misalnya, sebagai gelandangan perempuan tua, praktis hidupnya hanya menjadi gelandangan. Itulah sebabnya, ia agak iri pada Retno yang masih muda dan masih besar harapan potensi dirinya bisa dijadikan uang dengan menjadi pelacur. Tokoh dengan kondisi terparah adalah Kojal. Ia adalah lambang manusia pengkhayal yang mendapatkan kesenangan dengan khayalannya. Ia mengkhayal sebagai pemenang lotre dan ia mendapatkan apa yang dikhayalkannya tersebut. Demikian parahnya pikiran Kojal, sampai-sampai seluruh jalan cerita dalam drama ini diisi oleh jalan pikiran Kojal sehingga bisa mempengaruhi semua perilaku tokoh untuk mengikuti khayalannya, yaitu menghabiskan uang hasil menang lotre. Kemungkinan lain yang lebih positif terdapat pada tokoh karsa Tukijan. Di antara semua tokoh yang hidup bergelandang, tokoh Tukijan memiliki cita-cita yang paling realistis. Dalam rangka menyongsong masa depan, ia bercita-cita membuka lahan di Pulau Sumatra sebagai tenaga transmigrasi. Cita-cita itu adalah sebuah keinginan positif dan layak didukung karena sesuai dengan program pemerintah saat itu (Orde Baru) dalam mengatasi masalah lapangan kerja dan penurunan wilayah hunian di Jawa. Di akhir cerita dinyatakan bahwa ia sudah berangkat ke suatu pulau dengan tujuan bertransmigrasi bersama Retno sebagai calon istrinya. Mega-Mega pertama kalinya ditulis pada tahun 1968 ketika masa pembangunan negara baru dimulai dan negara sedang berusaha membangun kekuatan di segala bidang. Mega-Mega mungkin menjadi sebuah potret bagi negara Indonesia yang masih belum mantap dalam penyelenggaraan negara sehingga segala kemungkinan bisa terjadi di masa datang, baik positif maupun negatif, tergantung pada anggapan dan sikap warganya dalam memperlakukan negara tempat lahirnya. Pola hubungan tokoh dalam drama ini adalah pola hubungan antara manusia dan manusia lainnya, baik individual maupun sosial. Mae dengan sikapnya yang ingin

dianggap sebagai seorang "ibu", telah menciptakan suasana lingkungan para gelandangan yang terikat secara emosional.

I don’t know what it was about last night, but maybe my shitty mental health in the past 24 hours plus some Narnia nostalgia and also consuming some darker content as of late was a big contribution to this.

I had a dream last night that I was in a music video with William Moseley. I had a sort of grungy aesthetic going on and it was the first time I’ve ever seen myself in my dreams with the reddish/blonde hair color that I have now. I remember my eyeliner was kind of smeared and there was a blue-night filter over the scene. I was seeing all of this in third person. I don’t know what the music video was for or anything, I just know that we were on camera, and then all of a sudden it transitioned into a very graphic sex scene, like there was nothing censored and it was, uh...wild. I distinctly remember a blowjob happening asdfghjkl; And then next thing I know, the scene drastically changed to the aftermath of a rather gory childbirth. There was no baby in sight, but I was lying unconscious in a hosptial bed with bloody blankets wadded around me, and my fiance was sprawled across the foot of the bed not necessarily bloody but definitely at least on the verge of death, and William Moseley was like lying next to me on the bed also on the verge of death if not already dead. It was just overall extremely bizarre and strange. And then Kelsey Chow had a Frozen 2 Elsa moment, came out as two-spirit, and renamed herself Kohal/Kojal and kind of...disappeared into the woods. (The only correlation this has with anything that happened in the first half of the dream is that she and William Moseley started dating in 2011 while filming a movie called Run together, and I have no idea if they are still together now ten years later or if they have amicably broken up and are just good friends or what but that’s whatever the fuck that was about, I guess).
