House of Bastiion by K.L. Kolarich

So this book, you guys. It took me several attempts to start House of Bastiion mainly because I needed to be in a clear mindset but I’m glad I didn’t rush into it otherwise I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did and there’s a lot of information to digest. A few pages in and I already knew it was going to be heavy world building, character development and politics (don’t let the politics aspect of it all put you off, it’s just part of understanding the different Houses and characters)! Let me just admit, it can be a little confusing initially, because I was, but as you keep reading it eventually all comes together. It does take a few chapters to get into, probably around chapter 13 but by 17? I was HOOKED; the plot got a little more interesting and the complexity of characters start to unravel.

Just from the way things were headed, I was expecting romance as there are subtle hints of it, but I’m glad there wasn’t much (sorry folks, slow burn here) because the foundation of the story is still being laid out especially if this is book one of five! AhhH!! Can’t wait!

The world building is fantastic, it's one of those worlds you could find yourself lost in. The characters are complex & some are a little mysterious but they are also some of my favorites so far. This really does offer everything that most fantasy readers look for in a book.
