Class 1-A band

I wondered about this group’s dynamic:

One last band reunion... before they're all shipped of to war.

Kaminari’s probably the only one, who's really friends with all of the band members:

Pre-band, Jirou and Yaoyorozu were already close friends, but Jirou and Kaminari might have had established their electric [I'm not sorry] chemistry even earlier.

To Bakugou, Kaminari's probably the second real friend that he made in his life (or more like Kaminari made himself Bakugou's second real friend).

In another post, I had headcanoned Kaminari as being one of Class Mom's favourite kids. They can be seen laughing together in the background several times. I would count KamiMomo among the underrated background friendships, as I can see them being good for each other: Both are sensitive souls and at the same time, also very encouraging towards others. Kaminari was also the one, who immediately interupted Yaoyorozu, when she attempted to give 1-A and 1-B the "you are not obligated to fight against a lethal opponent with me" - speech, and instead assured her, that she would not face off against Gigantomachia alone.

Tokoyami and Kaminari apparently got closer to each other through the band. Tokoyami's thoughts during Kaminari's big (that should've could've been more elaboratived on) badass scene during the Gunga Mountain raid, outright stated, that he views the latter as a very good friend.

The rest of them? Aren't really close to each other.

After the cultural festival arc, Bakugou and Jirou were put into the same team during the joint training arc. Zero-emotional-stakes-fight aside, they are not shown to interact in any manner, that could be interpreted as significant to the relationship between them.

[Tangent rant: And no, I don’t count Bakugou saving Jirou by stepping on her, as significant interaction. Quickly gassing up a minor character and have Bakugou’s defeating them to "prove" how awesome Bakugou’s “teamwork” is, isn’t really convincing, if the audience didn’t get the chance to know the rival character and get invested into them beforehand. The audience is simply told and expected to believe, that Tokage Setsuna's really, really very capable. Usually. We never got to see any of it... dammit, lazy-ass writing! - rant end.]

It’s kinda difficult to make friends with someone who refuses to use your name for most of the time.

How does one become friends with Bakugou actually? Let's see:

Kirishima: Made himself into Bakugou’s morality chain,

Kaminari: I feel like Kaminari befriended Bakugou, bc he subconsciously felt that Bakugou would need his friendship (yes, Bakugou needs Kaminari much more than the other way round),

Todoroki: Just wants to be friends with all of his peers (except maybe Yoarashi Inasa),

Sero and Mina might be counted as Bakugou's friends to a lesser extent.

What do these people have in common? All of Bakugou's friends do 90 % of the work to maintain a relationship with him. The only reason how building rapport with Bakugou is possible, is, if the other person is doing most (if not all) of the rapport building by themselves...

Yeah, you're an ass, Bakugou.

I feel like Jirou, Yaoyorozu, and Tokoyami would have a more “normal” reaction to Bakugou’s character: Aka backing away from the snappy Pomeranian and leaving it tf alone. Most people don’t want to/can’t put up with disrespect and unwarranted anger for an extended amount of time – understandably, especially if they usually receive little to no positive feedback ever.

I headcanon that Bakugou feels slightly uneasy around Yaoyorozu, ever since her assessment of him at the beginning of the school year. I don’t think he ever held a grudge against her for that. Nevertheless, Bakugou’s a very proud individual, even after significant character development. Having someone - especially someone who’s not a senior but a peer – rip apart that superior self-image he had of himself with such sober laser-sharp accuracy, seemed to have been… almost traumatic to Bakugou and his gargantuan ego. I feel like he would subconsciously avoid being alone with Yaoyorozu. As in, if they happen to find themselves alone with each other e.g. in the common areas of their dorms, he will try to leave quickly.

Tokoyami is not amused.

Beyond each other's battle prowess, I don’t see Bakugou and Tokoyami having a lot of respect for each other. Or to put it more mildly: I don’t see them having much patience for the each other's antics.

[Funnily enough, in the gag comics, Dark Shadow - in the form of a little human girl - made a ranking list of who/what she likes the most: Apparently, Bakugou ranks third, just behind Tokoyami himself, and Todoroki.]

But yeah, no surprises here. Kaminari gels with everyone. Bakugou gels with no one... except those, whose skins are a lot thicker than the average, and thus, wouldn't mind his verbal abuse too much.

Kaminari Denki: Everything mentioned above, as well as a lack of self-preservation.

What about TokoJirou?

Well, Tokoyami and Jirou got a moment of joint badassery during the final war. From that single interaction, I’d say, his dramatics and her snark go well with each other - be it directed towards each other, or united against others. Aside from that, we haven’t gotten much of them together, unfortunately. However, I believe they get along well, and I can see them becoming friends.

[Actually, the drama CDs gave us Tokoyami accompanying Jirou to a haunted house (while Kaminari chickened out). It includes Jirou asking to hold onto the hem of his uniform, and Tokoyami reassuring her fears. It's all very cute, go look it up on yt!]

And the TokoMomo dynamic?

We know that Yaoyorozu's self-confidence took a critical hit, after she lost against Tokoyami in the sports fest at lightening speed. She seemed to have been very shocked about how the match play out. We could assume, that she had been relatively self-confident previously. But we actually don't know, if it used to be more stable. And while Yaoyorozu's match with Todoroki against Aizawa gave her back some self-confidence; from then on, we're privy to more of her thoughts - most of them centered around self-doubt.

So either she'd never encountered a roadblock before losing against Tokoyami, and their match was to her, what her own assessment of Bakugou was to the latter. Or, Yaoyorozu has always been prone to second-guess herself a lot after encountering setbacks.

While he probably didn't pay half as much mind to his quick victory against Yaoyorozu as she did, we know that Tokoyami can be quite observant. I would have been interested in his thoughts about their match, as well as the resulting consequences for Yaoyorozu's self-confidence.

How would these two interact, if they were to be alone with each other? Very politely for sure. But what other aspects could their interactions have? How could they become closer friends?

Sero wears smudged eyeliner sometimes bc he know Denki finds it attractive

Sato makes Kami fruit baskets every once in a while

Kami likes putting up glow in the dark stars in people's rooms

it's Bakugo's biggest flex that his room was the first to get starred

Kirishima knows that Kami's favorite candy to get at vending machines is skittles

so whenever they go some place together that he knows has vending machines, he goes in first to put enough change into it for skittles because he knows Kami always presses the button first just to see if anything will happen :)

Bakugo has mental health days with Kami every once in a while bc as loud as Kami is, he also enjoys comfortable silence and no one else goes into Bakugo's room

whenever Deku starts to spiral about something negative, Denki always gives him a lil flick on his nose and Midoriya absolutely adores it bc he thinks its really cute that he cares enough to snap him out of it

Tokoyami took Kami to Build-A-Bear and now they have raccoons dressed in spiked chokers and band tees (they got their lil accessories from hot topic)

Dark Shadow leaves empty monster cans by Denki's door just bc they feel like it (Kami keeps them in a box)

ft. a little KamiMomo

- they study together a lot but bakugou it’s the type who studies in the morning and iida is the one who stays up to study so when they study at night bakugou always falls asleep, and in the morning iida never pays attention and just drinks coffee.

- Bakugou is the “coffee drinker” in the relationship and Iida is the “downs 10 5hr energy drinks in 2 minutes” in the relationship.

- Iida can’t cook, he’s a decent baker- but can’t cook.

- Iida is the only one aloud to call bakugou ‘Katsuki’, he says it’s bc he’s the only one whose “formal” enough.

- Iida helps bakugou train in stamina, and bakugou help iida train in resistance… they’re basically the same thing but not

- they got together bc denki said everyone had a crush on bakugou bc he had the aspects of a man, and a woman, man boobs. and Iida said, out loud, “no. i like bakugou bc he’s a man and has manly boobs, not bc his boobs makes him feminine.” and everyone just say there shocked,,, he didn’t even realize he had said it aloud till bakugou yelled “YOU DAMN 4 EYES” and walked out of the room.

- denki takes credit for getting them together and bakugou hates it so much that he ‘broke up’ with iida just to ask him out again.

- Momo didn’t know about their relationship and had thought Iida was hitting on her, she had confronted him about it, telling him about her and denki, and Iida just laughed & left.

- whenever Bakugous would get in a fight iida would grab him by his ear and drag him away

- Deku can win any argument with bakugou by saying “at least i’m not dating my rivals bestfriend.” and he shuts tf up.

- Iida will talk shit abou bakugou all damn day and then bakugou will just walk into his room and give home kiss on the head and iida will switch up and be the most annoying bk fan boy everrrrrrr

- bakugou got Iida into a bad anime phase, like bk watches it on the down low, no one really knows and he does it in his free time it as background noise when exercising. he had Ouran Host Club on one time when iida came over and then iida like became invested and just binged the whole series and then started hxh and binged all of that, it was bad… his grades dropped to an B

- Iidas dad is supper bossy and controlling but his mom is supper sweet and loves bakugou because she thought her son was never gonna give himself time to date

- bakugous mom loves iidas dad and makes jokes to bakugou that he’s gonna ‘marry rich just like his momma’ and his dad is just happy he’s happy

- Iida has a little sister (my headcanon) and Katsuki never knew but now their best friends, Iida thinks it’s adorable but is salty bc she likes him better than iida

- Iida’s social media is full of the worlds most awful pictures of him and bk, like imagine ur moms facebook….yeah it’s bad..

- Aizawa couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that they were dating and was kind of bothered by it bc whenever he paired groups together for projects Iida and Bakugou were his go-to-destruction-crew! they would do amazing on the project but in class they would just fight and throw insults and when they stopped Aizawa was like “i gotta make em’ hate eachother again”

- they still fight like an old marry couple.

- momo and Iida are bsf, and bc of this Kaminari & bakugou have to hang out a lot, Kaminari loves it and bakugou claims it’s torture.

- they have a blanket that was like messed up in production.. let me explain: They we’re making throw blankets of the top 10 Pro-Hero’s and during the first few prints, one of them had messed up the spacing so it’s just a bunch of bakugou and iida and like some random out line of someone else. it’s their favorite blanket.

- they keep a pack of sticker notes in the bathroom and they leave little notes for reminders and cute ones that say ily or something

- the one thing bakugou could always make fun of about iida was his glasses but sooner or later he needed reading glasses and iida holds it agains him for eVER.

She's A, She's A Lady, and I Am Just A Boy

Summary: Tea, a Conversation, and a Possibly Requited Crush

Kaminari stood there. Watching. Waiting. He had tons of things he could've been doing—homework, training, reading—but he was here, waiting for Momo Yaoyorozu to walk into the common room and brew her afternoon tea.

She did this every day. At 4:50pm—right before someone would be placed on kitchen duty—Momo Yaoyorozu made herself a cup of tea. It would change randomly. For now, it was Chai. Her packs of tea were in the third cabinet, second shelf. She had difficulty getting to the third shelf and didn’t like asking anyone for help.

Kaminari has noticed things like this about Momo Yaoyorozu. She takes her tea every day at 4:50pm before dinner because she rewards it to herself after studying. She trains in the morning instead of the evening and saves her evening hours for Vice Rep duties, reading, or calling her parents. She never lets anyone see her sad, putting up a brave front for everyone else. She’s always calm, even when she has the right to be utterly pissed. 

Momo’s composed and orderly where Kaminari isn’t. She’s the order to his chaos—she’s too good for an idiot like him.

“Hello, Kaminari,” She shines her pearly white smile at him as she heads down the stairs perfectly on schedule. 

Kaminari, seated on the counter, replies, “Hey Yaomomo!”

Everyone is allowed to call her Yaomomo but Kaminari has always felt pride in being able to. It’s a nickname—friends give each other nicknames. And while Kaminari wishes she’d call him Denki, at least she’s not insulting him.

“Whatcha doin’ down here?” He asks, as if he doesn’t know the answer. He just wants to hear her speak. She always tries to be calm and collected, even when faced with difficult scenarios and villain attacks. Though, this shouldn’t be difficult. He doesn’t want to be difficult for her

“My afternoon tea.” Momo pauses, then asks, “Do you want to join me?”

He stops, almost short circuiting. When he comes back through, he’s overenthusiastic, “Oh yeah! Sure! Totally!”

“All I have is Chai at the moment, is that alright with you?” 

“Definitely.” He doesn’t know how he’s ended up here, but he’d be damned if he wasn’t going to take the opportunity and run with it.

“Good.” Momo replies, making two cups, “I’m going to head to the patio with this, if you don’t mind.”

“I totally don’t!” If Mineta could see him now, he’d be jealous. Kaminari wouldn’t blame him—Momo is the hottest, smartest, and kindest girl in Class 1A. Mineta would ruin this; Kaminari won’t.

She hands a cup to him. Denki takes it, not caring how hot it is. It’s one of Momo’s mugs—she has a collection of them. This one is of Eevee.

“I didn’t know you liked pokemon.” Denki replies, holding the door open for her.

“I’m not too great at video games, but it was easy to master.”

“I could help?” Kaminari offers, “I’m pretty good at video games.”

“I know.” Momo takes a sip of her tea, pausing the conversation, “I’ve watched you play.”

“R-really?”

“Yeah.” Momo replies, “The precision and quick thinking required is quite admirable.”

“O-oh!” Kaminari responds, “Thanks.”

“And I’d love to play with you sometimes, Kaminari.” She gets up, heading back outside.

“Wait!” Kaminari reaches out for her, “Why are you heading back inside?”

“Kitchen Duty.” She answers, “but maybe we could talk and play later? After dinner?”

“Yeah.” Kaminari agrees, “It’s a deal.”

“See you then.”

“See you then.”

If Momo wasn’t still nearby, he’d jump for joy. This is a date, kinda. And she seems interested in him. Now, if only Mineta could see him...

Kamideku: Sinatra by Forrest Nolan. EASILY. it just has the proper vibes. and the lyrics??? its so perfect for them. the whole- "liked by everyone loved only by each other" trope thing they have going on is pretty much perfectly summed up in this one song. its easily the only option

Kamisero: I Wanna Be Yours by Arctic Monkeys. the straightforwardness of the song is what would make Kami choose it. something that Sero is probably familiar with and would appreciate the message of just wanting to be there for him. the overall "i wanna be there for you" energy of the song is what makes it resonate so well

Todokami: Cherry Wine by grentperez. Kami just feels that the message of wanting to bring his crush out of their comfort zone a bit is how he feels with Todoroki. and it just works bc it perfectly displays the feelings of "i wanna show you a good time even if thats the only time you grant me"

Tokokami: Necromancer by Joy Again. it just SCREAMS unnecessary division due to who we are around other people. Kami is loud while Tokoyami is quiet. it perfectly explains the "admiring from afar" aspect. their only times together are when they both decide to pull away from others to truly enjoy each other. that or the hc that Kaminari travels a lot bc of his family and he mostly keeps in touch with Tokoyami

Kirikami: Smithereens by Twenty One Pilots. Kami would pick this one bc he knows Kiri would do the same for him. the whole song is talking about wanting to protect and love someone. so it appeals in that aspect. the way of thinking "youd sacrifice yourself for me so i want you to know that id do the same for you" fits with them specifically very well

Kamijirou: Apricot Princes by Rex Orange County. this one is a bit different than the others on the account that it's about caring for someone while also seeking reassurance that this person cares as well. this just fits their dynamic very well imo

Shinkami: I Don't Wanna Be Okay Without You by Charlie Burg. this one i cant really explain? but this song talks a lot about having someone on your mind. so i think it fits them very well. also the slowness and sincerity of the song would be smth Shinsou would appreciate

Bakukami: Never Knew I Needed by Ne-Yo. this song is really about how life changing the subject of the lyrics is. it fits their canon relationship very well bc of how much it talks about meeting not being the original plan. Bakugo is always throwing Kaminari head first into different situations and it's something Kami has learned to love about him. this song just captures them together PERFECTLY.

Kamioji: Pyjama Pants by Cavetown. this song would be the choice bc of how they interact. Kaminari is always clinging onto Ojirou and his tail. so this song would be the way of expressing how much of a comforting presence Ojirou is to Kami and how much he wants to be the same presence in return

Kamiida/kamimomo: Pretty Boy by The Neighbourhood. this song works for either of them bc its about someone being a grounding person. its about how even in the midst of extreme danger that the subject of attraction makes everything feel ok. this applies to both Momo and Iida bc of how they handle things and therefore make Kami feel protected :)
