A year ago to this date Facebook invited me as the guest speaker for its Facebook Connected Small Businesses event they held hear in Houston! It was a great experience. One thing I always do is stay optimistic about where my brand is going even in the midst of opposition. In November 2020, Amazon invited me to join their first Minority Business Accelerator program in. The program comes with a personal Amazon Representative to guide me and some other really great perks to help my business succeed. I can never say this enough. My heart is so full from all the support and love we received this week and all the days, weeks and months bringing us to this day. Sometimes I just get so emotional about how far we have come with this business. We are no where near where we would like to be but to think that this was conceived, created and implemented by an ordinary person like myself is unbelievable. Our internal thoughts are not always kind to ourselves and we have to reprogram them to believe in ourselves a lot because the world tells you certain things are outside of your reach or purview because you don't fit the particulars of what a business owner is supposed to look like; or sometimes because you are plagued with self-doubt. Sometimes we just want to bury our heads in the sand, well in this case, behind our bags. There has been so much devastation this year but we have to stay hopeful, empowered and uplifted. Now more than ever I am sure we all realize the immense value of family and the fragility of human life! I am thankful everyday for something or another. Today, I reflect on how blessed I am to have this woman as a mother. Her life has quite literally been the definition of defying all odds. She left Sierra Leone at 18 to a far away land to attend university. She spent those young years studying in Russia, learning Russian and eventually obtaining her medical degree in Russia. All this while enduring the sudden death of her own mother. She has literally escaped death on three separate occasions not by her own might but by her mighty faith. Her faith sustains her in every circumstance. Her strength under fire has taught me, if nothing else, to persist. Today I am thankful for a mother who's life is the definition of defying all odds. Today I am thankful for her faith, strength and perseverance. Today I am thankful for an example of how to succeed even when the odds are against you.
