RIP Junko Ohashi
RIP Junko Ohashi, who passed away from cancer a few days ago at the age of 73. In some of the city pop circles I hover around we all rightfully call her the City Pop Queen because she truly was. Telephone Number was probably her most famous song amongst most people, and is probably the first song of hers you heard:
My favorite song of hers though is Postcard Fantasy, just an absolutely insane bop and one of my first go-to examples of stuff to give a listen to if you want to give city pop a try.
Just so good, she was such an incredible talent and I'm glad the city pop renaissance meant more people go to learn about her. RIP Junko Ohashi.

Junko Ohashi: Japan's Iconic Songstress Passes Away at 73
Junko Ohashi, a revered icon in Japan's music industry and a beloved national treasure, passed away at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and artistic brilliance. Her journey, marked by a valiant battle against cancer, resonates deeply with fans and fellow artists alike.
Ohashi's career was a testament to her indomitable spirit. Five years ago, she was diagnosed with both esophageal and breast cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy and a period of recovery, she made a triumphant return to the stage, showcasing not only her musical talent but also her unyielding determination. However, in March of this year, her esophageal cancer recurred, halting her plans for upcoming concerts and compelling her to focus on her health.
Despite her efforts, Ohashi's condition deteriorated rapidly last week, and she was hospitalized. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her illness, leaving a profound impact on the music world. Japanese media, including "Sponichi Annex," reported on her brave fight and her eventual passing, highlighting the profound loss felt by many.
Ohashi's influence on the Japanese music scene was monumental. She rose to fame with hits like « Silhouette Romance » and « Tasogare My Love », becoming a legendary figure, especially among audiences from the 70s and 80s. Artwork for my remix of Telephone Number by Junko Ohashi :D Normally I’m too lazy to make art for my remixes but this song has been stuck in my head for like 10 years and I was feeling inspired. The girl here isn’t an OC or anything btw, she’s just some random girl lol
